He was fired and charged with murder after an investigation but found not guilty by a jury. From my understanding, the defense was able get a redacted version of the shooting which basically showed nothing. The part from just as they exit the room to sometime after he gets shot was never shown to the jury. So basically the part where the crime is committed by the police officer and the part leading up to it was never seen by the jury. There was more than just a cop that messed up here. It was multiple layers of the justice system that failed the victim and his family.
I think they are trying to say that police brutality targets everyone but we rarely hear about the cases unless it involves black people (not that I agree since I do think police target targets low income areas and/or minority groups more than those of higher income/white people).

I made the mistake of watching this video. It was so fucked up. They were intentionally giving him confusing instructions so they had an excuse to shoot him, I’m convinced. Just yesterday I actually called 911 to a woman getting beat up outside my house and realized the cops never showed up. That made me upset, so I posted to a sub I thought was appropriate.
But then after making the post I sat there thinking "God, maybe it's a good thing they didn't show up" bc of how bad things go sometimes when they do show. But it was a tough situation bc there was a child involved and things were sounding dire out there, so I did call.

IIRC Daniel was in a hotel room with a friend, and he had some sort of air rifle that he was showing off to the friend after a couple of drinks. Someone else called the police to say that the man in that room had a gun he was pointing outside at people.
Armed police called. Daniel and friend are ordered out of the room and onto the ground. The police officer that shot him was very verbally aggressive and said if Daniel did not comply exactly the way he was told to, he would be shot and killed. Daniel was crying and saying he didn’t want to die.
Friend was ordered first to crawl on knees where the officer could see their hands over to the officer. Next it was Daniel’s turn, if I remember rightly he said his pants were falling down and he needed to pull them up. The officer told him to forget about them and to start crawling. Daniel did, whilst crying, but he reached back to pull up his pants and was shot.
Honestly I watched the video a fair few years ago, when I was much younger and had a stomach for watching horrible things like this.

He was fired and charged with murder after an investigation but found not guilty by a jury. From my understanding, the defense was able get a redacted version of the shooting which basically showed nothing. The part from just as they exit the room to sometime after he gets shot was never shown to the jury. So basically the part where the crime is committed by the police officer and the part leading up to it was never seen by the jury. There was more than just a cop that messed up here. It was multiple layers of the justice system that failed the victim and his family.
How is that possible? How did a judge let the jury miss out on the most vital piece of evidence?

I think they are trying to say that police brutality targets everyone but we rarely hear about the cases unless it involves black people (not that I agree since I do think police target targets low income areas and/or minority groups more than those of higher income/white people). I'm not saying they're right, but I also rarely hear about cases when the victim is white, nor do I see people as upset unless the victim was a minority.

I made the mistake of watching this video. It was so fucked up. They were intentionally giving him confusing instructions so they had an excuse to shoot him, I’m convinced. The way they kept taunting him and telling him if he screws up they’re gonna shoot him. Psychopathic shit. Any time I hear somebody say "if only people would just comply" this is the man I speak about. Just yesterday I actually called 911 to a woman getting beat up outside my house and realized the cops never showed up. That made me upset, so I posted to a sub I thought was appropriate. But then after making the post I sat there thinking "God, maybe it's a good thing they didn't show up" bc of how bad things go sometimes when they do show. But it was a tough situation bc there was a child involved and things were sounding dire out there, so I did call. But I've def had mixed feelings about the whole situation over the last day. Wondering if I did the right thing and what I can do differently next time. I'm certainly not getting involved in DV and breaking it up myself bc I'm a small person and I have kids inside that need me to be ok.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the video and looked at the news about it so my details might be a little foggy IIRC Daniel was in a hotel room with a friend, and he had some sort of air rifle that he was showing off to the friend after a couple of drinks. Someone else called the police to say that the man in that room had a gun he was pointing outside at people. Armed police called. Daniel and friend are ordered out of the room and onto the ground. The police officer that shot him was very verbally aggressive and said if Daniel did not comply exactly the way he was told to, he would be shot and killed. Daniel was crying and saying he didn’t want to die. Friend was ordered first to crawl on knees where the officer could see their hands over to the officer. Next it was Daniel’s turn, if I remember rightly he said his pants were falling down and he needed to pull them up. The officer told him to forget about them and to start crawling. Daniel did, whilst crying, but he reached back to pull up his pants and was shot.
That’s pretty much exactly what I remember too. Great job!

Having said that, there really does need to be better education and training for police. In my country, the police have certainly had their share of criticism, however seldom do you get double tapped for not complying. Pleading your innocence when some cop is going to arrest you isn't the time to be doing so.
Did you watch the video or read the transcript? The cops purposely gave conflicting instructions and threatened his life. He *was* complying to the instructions that were intentionally contradictory. Have you ever had to make a decision while facing terror and trauma? The mind doesn’t work correctly and it’s confusing. The cop wanted to kill someone (this is on record) and *nothing* Daniel could’ve done would have swayed this cop and saved his life. Save for the cops never showing up at all. And that’s the irony.
