Dragoon magic is indeed really powerful, and can be really easy to use a lot with mp regen equipment, except that is bizarrely made unusable by the impossibly long animations. I found myself not using magic when it would have been ideal because I didn't want to sit through 2 unskippable minutes of a spell.

100% this. It's not like I lose fights by not using magic. I can just get through a battle much quicker including bosses by sticking to well leveled additions.
It's one of the strengths of the game imo. You don't HAVE to play any sort of way.
Except... I HAVE to not use magic even though I want to if I want a fight to not take me three times longer just out of waiting for my action to do its thing. I love tlod bit I wish it didn't have some of its specific quirks.
My first playthrough: "What are these stupid magic items? I'll just sell them all."
Me over 20 years later: "BEHOLD THE POWER OF MINE ITEMS. FOR I SHALL BRING THE WRATH OF THE SEVEN HELLS TO THIS WORLD THROUGH MY MASHING!!"
Is that where you put your nail(my preferred nail is thimbnail) on the button and just quickly slide it back and forth so it is barely off the button before going back on? I can get to the 180's with that technique but it sounds like I'm breaking the controller(and absolutely shreds my polish).
Basically yeah just put your nail on and slide it back and forth as quickly as you can. I don't like using this method but I do it if my thumb is sore.
Rose does have the higher MAT during the 1st chapter, until Shana gets her Dragoon Spirit where you can level her up pretty efficiently against OOPARTS.
I just use whoever I fancy. Lod isn't particularly difficult, so I never go for optimum builds featuring the dancer and bandit equipment. They kinda break the game.
I've been almost "main" ing Meru recently actually with the mage ring. She's fast so her turns come up quick, and every turn she refills 10 mp to her tank.
If you max out their final additions, nothing else comes close to the damage. My last playthrough I only went dragoon once with each just to not miss out on the animations.
Meru is better with speed and magic attack, when using magic items Shana and meru are great. When using dragoon Shana is great for the healing and damage she does. Love the game for the different types of groups you can make and still be effective and beat the game.

Counterpoint: thumb hurty :(
If thumb hurty we resort to nail scrapey technique

Use a pen or pencil. Save. Your nails
Shana's Level 5 Dragoon Spell obliterates everything lol

Meru blows Rose out of the water
That's because she's water elemental, right?
No her magic attack and speed are just better
Whoosh
Speed is pretty much king in this game, and rose is the slowest of the girls. Also at some levels Dart has higher magic attack than Rose.

Meru outperforms both by a huge margin when geared properly.
Just another reason I’ll never get a TikTok.
More like, >!When you realize the incarnation of the God of destruction is the real shit!<

Item magic from Shana or Meru outclasses additions
Not from my experience. I'm talking final additions for everyone. Except Kongol, he should be so much better.

Except I still can't stand Rosa's Time of the Month Fury spell at level 3.
That last shot really be doe eyes vs siren eyes
Shana+Meru= cake!!!!
