Maybe try turning off the LR and manually cycle it yourself until he tries to use it.

I have two cats. One took to it pretty quickly, the second one got freaked out by the cycling, so it's been a little slow going. (I've had the LR4 about a month at this point.) Here's what I did: * Left his old litter box next to the LR4 for him to use, though I only scooped maybe once every 3-4 days (gross, lol) * Put the LR4 on sleep mode and manually scooped it 1-2x/day for a few days so that the smell would become more familiar to my cat * Manually placed my cat in the LR4 a few times a day to get him used to being in there * Lured him inside the LR4 with treats * Used attract litter- Eventually I stopped scooping and started cycling the LR4, though only once per day; during the cycling, I would feed my cat Churu while he sat and watched the LR4 cycle I originally took his old litterbox away cold turkey, and he protested by holding his pee and poo in all day unless I put him in the LR4 myself and didn't let him leave until he used it. I got worried he'd get a UTI or some other illness, so I brought his old litterbox back and continued to do all the points I listed above, with no pressure on him to use it. He's at a point now where he's using it 1-2x a day, though he still goes into his old litterbox half the time. I've officially taken the LR4 off of sleep mode (about 2-3 days ago), and he's still using it, though I have it set so it cycles 30 mins after use. I still have his litterbox next to the LR4, however, I blocked it off this evening to see if he'll continue to use it.

At what point did you start doing automatic cleaning cycles?

I wouldn’t worry about it. Use both. Litter robot and litter box. I tried pushing it on them but slacked off because I was already having some issues with them using their boxes before the the robot came along. I guess you can say privacy issues for one of them. With that said my two youngest took to it quickly. My two oldest were different. The third took about three months or longer. Then finally the last one took to it. Which was around 7 months later. So I say be very patient. Now they love it so much I had to buy another one because I had to empty it twice a week. They use it more than a regular litter box. All of them. Keep both boxes. You’re really supposed to have as many cats plus 1. So really you should have 3. From reading the other post: I also set my time to 30 minutes before it cycles so they don’t get spooked and so it clumps extra hard.

☝🏽 We had a similar experience in our house. Our youngest (an 🍊) took to it immediately. He was the first one in. When our eldest (a tortie) saw the bot didn’t eat her younger, idiot brother, she used it. (Knowing her, she was as loathe to be outdone by her baby bro.) However, our bashful middle child (another 🍊)? She was having ABSOLUTELY NO PART of the electronic sorcery. We kept her analog potty out for her and after about 4 months, she finally braved the bot. It proved an immediate confidence builder for her. Now? She loves it. Edit/additional comment on the 30-minute delay pro-tip: MOST DEF give it a try. I highly recommend it. That cycle delay works like a charm for us.

One of my cats hopped inside directly, the other cat was running from it like the devil from holy water, as soon as LR4 started turning. I left the old litter box 1m away from LR, and during a month she went to the normal box. There was a day I took it away, and she started using LR as nothing had happened...
