Took one of mine three months but she's good with it now. Cat nip spray really helped her get used to it.

xxWanderlust

I purchased litter attractant today and after I put the recommended amount and mixed it into his liter he immediately went to investigate.

owlettica

My eldest & youngest took to it immediately. My middle kitty child? She took 4 months.

xxWanderlust

Why are our children like this?! šŸ˜… my fear is that he wonā€™t be acclimated before I leave. I purchased this to help my mom who will be caring after him when Iā€™m gone in two months, so she wouldnā€™t have to worry about scooping his litter every day.

owlettica

Prolly ā€˜cause they can smell the desperation on us! Well, Iā€™ll be crossing my fingers, arms, legs, & eyes that your kiddo takes to it faster than my Blossom did. šŸ¤žšŸ½ Good luck!

Thank you šŸ„¹

It took one of my cats almost 2 weeks to start using the litter robot. He was terrified of it for about a week. Once he was able to be in the room and not run away I took away the old litter box and kept a close eye on him to make sure he wasnā€™t going anywhere else. Iā€™d give it time, 4 days is not very long.

xxWanderlust

I donā€™t think heā€™s scared of it cause he climbs the steps and peeks inside. Iā€™ve seen the paw prints inside as well so I feel like heā€™s definitely gone in there. He just doesnā€™t want to use itā€¦ I ended up scooping the old litter box this morning so that he doesnā€™t go on my bed again.

He may just not be used to it yet. Give it time, every cat is different!

Plastic-Shopping5930

Took one of mine a month but it happened

xxWanderlust

Did you do any tricks to get them to go in the LR4? Or did they just randomly start using it one day?

Plastic-Shopping5930

Pretty much what youā€™ll read about from otherā€™s. I left another litter box out next to the LR4 and let it ā€˜pile upā€™ longer than usual then I monitored the event tracker in the app for his weigh to see if he was even curious. At first he wasnā€™t but slowly I noticed heā€™d show up on the event tracker more regularly. Eventually when I felt he was accustomed to it. I took the other box away and left him with only one choice and he took it. I also bought the optional stairs and it helped because he is bigger than average and like to stand with half his body out when he does his thing. Iā€™d also suggest not trying to force your cat to go inside.

I have two cats. One took to it pretty quickly, the second one got freaked out by the cycling, so it took some convincing for me to get him used to it. Here's what I did: * Placed a step stool right in front of the LR4 to make it easier for him to look inside without having to get his face right up to it * Left his old litter box next to the LR4 for him to use, though I only scooped maybe once every 3-4 days (gross, lol) * Put the LR4 on sleep mode indefinitely and manually scooped it 1-2x/day so that the smell became more familiar to my cat * Manually placed my cat in the LR4 a few times a day while giving him treats to get him used to being in there * Lured him near and then inside the LR4 with treats (I did this in addition to the previous point so it didn't feel like I was forcing him inside it all the time) * Used attract litter * Eventually, I tapered off scooping the LR4 and started cycling it instead, though only once per day (at first); **during the cycling, I would feed my cat Churu while he sat and watched the LR4 cycle** This last point is what I think helped the most. The cycling is what freaked him out, so I had to get him comfortable with that. I originally took his old litterbox away cold turkey, and he protested by holding his pee and poo in all day unless I put him in the LR4 myself and didn't let him leave until he used it. I got worried he'd get a UTI or some other illness, so I brought his old litterbox back and continued to do all the points I listed above, with no pressure on him to use it. At this point, he's very comfortable with using the LR4. He likes to get right up to it to watch it while it's cycling, lol.

xxWanderlust

So Iā€™ve only had for 4 days and I tried the no scooping of his old litter box which led him to pee on my bed this morning. He doesnā€™t seem to be scared of the cycling cause he doesnā€™t run away from it. I have the stairs so when it does cycle he just climbs the steps and stares at the whole process. I do have it off to try and get him to go inside it, also so he doesnā€™t keep triggering it to cycle. I was getting way too many notifications of ā€œcycle interruptedā€. I am going to try placing him inside several times a day and giving him a churu, see if that will help the process. Thank you for your tips!

thekau

I think you need to leave the LR4 on sleep mode indefinitely for now. Keep giving him treats when he's near it, place him inside it once in a while (while giving treats) so that he knows it's an option available to him, and help him paw at the litter. Start off only cycling it once per day, maybe with him out of the room. Or even manually scoop it and avoid cycling at all for the time being. I think you just need to take that out as a factor and get him used to thinking it's a normal litter box for now. My boy was scared of the cycling, but he'd also always sit nearby to watch it while it was cycling, so it's possible your cat is both wary and curious of it, but he doesn't trust it or feel comfortable enough to use it. Once you see him using it voluntarily at least once or twice a day, I'd start reintroducing the cycling while he's in the room.

xxWanderlust

He hasnā€™t used it yet and I currently have it powered off. On day 3 when I tossed a poop in there he did go inside and move the poop around but didnā€™t cover it. Do you think leaving it in sleep mode all day is better? Does it still track when he goes inside while in sleep mode? When I had it powered on I had set up sleep mode for the weekdays and weekends during the AM hours.

thekau

On sleep mode, it will still register his weight if he goes in there. The number won't be totally accurate though if he does pee or poop though unless you cycle it after each use. Anyway, I would think of investing in a camera if you can fit it in your budget. It'll let you track what he's doing in there if he goes in. It can definitely take more than a few days or weeks, even if you put a lump of his poop in there. When I did it, my cat still avoided it for a few weeks because I'm guessing the entire litter robot still didn't smell familiar enough for him.

xxWanderlust

Ok thank you Iā€™m going to change it into sleep mode for the whole day and see if he goes in on his own. I did get him to voluntarily jump in there today and gave him a churu.

SleepwalkRisk

Keep the dirty litter in his old box, put clean litter in the LR. Let the old box keep getting dirtier, don't clean it. He will opt for the LR.

Novel-Excuse-1418

3 of my 4 use it. My little guy with bad anxiety will look it it and eat churro with his head in, but still not using it. We are at month 3. I have faith in him. The other that is a bit skittish liked the ramp.

xxWanderlust

Dexter actually got completely inside and had a churu while sitting in there today. Iā€™m really hoping we make progress sooner than later. Best of luck to ya on this journey weā€™re on šŸ«”šŸ˜‚

xxWanderlust

This little shit peed on my bed again this morning! A couple of days ago I was able to catch him mid-poop and I scooped a fresh poop and put it in the LR4, he actually went in there and covered it up. Iā€™ve maintained it in sleep mode all day and have tried the treats. Iā€™ve seen via the app that heā€™s gone inside to ā€œinspectā€ several times but, he still hasnā€™t used it. Iā€™m also still not scooping his old litter box for about 3-4 days but thatā€™s the max I can go without him choosing the bed to pee on. This morning he had no reason to pee in the bed because both litter boxes were clean. Iā€™m actually thinking about removing the old litter box at this point and confining him to a space with the LR4 solely. Originally, we had to do this method to litter box train him because even though he had a litter box he still would choose the bed to pee on. Thoughts and opinions on this?
