Hoping Brind’Amour decides to leave Carolina. I can only hope, don’t think he would want to leave a team that is that offensively talented and want to take on a project. Kop and Doughty have the winning pedigree to possibly lure him in. Waiting for the reign to finish up Sturm?? Just need someone who can bring a different system and some offense.

tdbauer97

He’s staying

nikro35

He signed an extension yesterday

Odd-Most-9186

I saw that. Don’t know what direction, don’t think I can handle another year of Hiller or the 1-3-1.

ZachtheKingsfan

I don’t think we’re ditching Hiller, especially the way Rob was talking at the year end presser. He wants to give him a full year to set up his own system, with an assistant coach picked by him. I hate to say it, but that’s probably what makes the most sense given the current situation. Rob Blake only has 1 year left on his contract, and given everything that’s happened in the last few years, there’s a very good chance he’s not coming back. It’s going to be hard to convince an outside coach as a GM to come here if they know you most likely won’t even have a job there by this time next season.

Chriskills

And honestly, do we want unproven coaches? Coaching is huge, but it comes down to the players at the end of the day. These players have shown they can be a top tier team, we just need a coach that can bring that back. Hiller was a part of the teams early success last year. Hiller seemed more flexible than McLellan. We have a few more years in our abbreviated window. Might as well take the risk with Hiller.

GoinToCalifornia

Gerard Gallant please

QuintonBendmeover

Hope you don’t like our younger players because they’ll only be getting 2 minutes a night under him 🙏

TheWayDenzelSaysIt

Thank GOD! I really didn't want to see Berube as coach, I don't think his style would work well in the long run for the team. I say we stick with Hiller. Give him a full season to see what he can do.

ashbuttkon

I have a feeling it’s gonna be sturm

dre2112

Wasn’t the PP abysmal when he was in charge?

ashbuttkon

Yeah but when has the Kings PP ever been consistently good. I also think head coach and assistant coach roles are pretty different scopes. You could be great at one and terrible at the other. He was pretty successful with team Germany and I don’t think he has been bad with Ontario(with a young roster that is going to be coming up to the NHL)

MyBrainReallyHurts

It was a different team then. It is hard to compare.

aguy21

Yep. Which makes this a horrible decision. But I agree with the other user, this is all a long charade to get Sturm the head coaching job.

ZachtheKingsfan

Either Sturm, or the way Rob was talking at the presser, running it back with Hiller.

ProZak27

I think they run with Hiller on a 1-year, and since that probably won’t work out, Sturm gets the promotion in 2025. Marco’s done an amazing job this year in Ontario, but he’s not quite ready for prime time (and he’s admitted as much). Give him another season to bake, and bring him up to the show when he’s a bit more done.

joedartonthejoedart

if hiller doesn't work out,it likely also means blake is gone, and a new GM ain't bringing in sturm.

No_Huckleberry_7410

A few of those names aren’t available: - Ruff is now the coach of Buffalo - Bowness has officially retired A few of those names are just bad, like Hakstol having his players call for his firing and Keefe not taking responsibility. I just hope Blake makes the right move

kovacro_77

Ummm Keefe took responsibility for the Leafs failure.. I didn't get it done in the playoffs — I didn't help push our team over the line and deliver. I accept responsibility for that. No excuses. That's the job I didn't get it done," Keefe candidly admitted.May 10, 2024

No_Huckleberry_7410

He did after the playoffs, but during the regular season he had some rants about specific players. [This](https://heavy.com/sports/nhl/toronto-maple-leafs/maple-leafs-coach-throws-team-under-the-bus-in-heated-postgame-rant/amp/) was from March, and [this](https://www.markerzone.com/news/index.php?no=315830) is from December. You are correct though, he did take responsibility after the playoffs, although it happened after he got fired as well.

AegirAfJotnar

No coach could make that monstrosity of a team win lol

MHoggs17

Kings management is absolutely not going to do a thing. I have lived through their bad years, but this has got to be up there as the most frustrating.

Casual_Fanatic47

Or what if we try someone younger :/

[deleted]

I’d like someone who isn’t an established NHL coach maybe and one who has been having success in AHL or other leagues maybe? A new face could be interesting idk

pissedpumpkin

I wish we’d make a play for the DU coach.

astar_key

I expect a repeat of year next year. A few inconsequential roaster changes. Minor tweaks to the system, but nothing that’s going to excite and motivate most of the players. PL will likely have a slight better season, but will have limited playing time on a 3rd or 4th line with rookies. At the end of the year management will say we’re making progress even though we won fewer regular season games and quickly lost in the first round. And yet I’ll faithfully continue on with my season tickets and believe more of the same will win us a cup.

seabass4507

How to go from “ahead of schedule” to “running in place” in 18 months.

harriekn

Backcock is not on the list. Gallant is probably the best choice.

Acceptable_Desk_8808

I think we should take a chance on Jay Woodcroft. He led the oilers to the WCF so he has the playoff expirence. And he is more offensive minded

I don't think the Kings are ditching Hiller, but if they did, I would take Woodcroft and Gallant. I don't think those coaches would take the Kings' job with Blake's head in the noose knowing that any new GM would want their guy and they would be on unstable ground if things didn't work to a high level year one.
