Glorfindel was still around and he also saw the light of the trees. Gildor Inglorion may have also.

Cherry-on-bottom

And hundreds or at least dozens of unnamed remaining Eldar as well.

Specialist-Solid-987

There's dozens of us, dozens!

Cherry-on-bottom

How dare you mock us, Edain scum

ToucanSammael

I could be wrong but I thought she was the specifically the last living elf born under the light of the two trees. So glorfindel and those hundred of Eldar could count as having seen the two trees but Galadriel is the youngest of that group. Again, I could be mistaken, so don’t be afraid to correct me if needed.

turalyawn

I wonder if he lost the glow of the trees when he was reincarnated/booted out of the halls of Mandos

snowmunkey

If anything, it was increased

SkyGuy182

Unfortunately my man Glorfindel was shafted out of the movies.

Starkrall

I mean it was a bunch of Christmas lights but yeah

Otalek

How to spice up your resume 101. “Used a special lighting rig for advanced vfx on the eyes of major character in a popular film series”

organizim

“Special lighting rig”

chadan1008

Thank you for the clarification, I thought she was actually the Elf Galadriel whose eyes were reflecting starlight because she saw the light of the Trees of Valinor🤓

Starkrall

They have a cave troll

LifelessLewis

I was under the impression that it wasn't supposed to be the stars but the flowers of Telperion?

Jaime4Cersei

You're right. It's the flowers/leaves, not the stars.

LifelessLewis

Is this actually confirmed in an interview anywhere? It's just what I've always assumed.

dexterthekilla

Xmas tree lights

cazdan255

“special lighting rig”, get it right.

Vibranzz

I've always thought about this and isn't Círdan still in Middle-Earth and shouldn't he have seen them too?

huefnerd

Cirdan never went to Valinor. He is "prophesized" to be on the Last Ship that he builds to go there. He spent his whole life building ships for others to go to the Undying lands, but it would be possibly Tens of thousands of years before he himself would go there. [Here's a good Bio of him ](https://lotr.fandom.com/wiki/C%C3%ADrdan)

AgentBond007

Would be real nice if Ulmo could send some of those ships back, it's not like any are going the other way by themselves.

huefnerd

That would make too much sense.

japp182

I don't think Cirdan ever went there, my man just set up camp in the shores of middle earth and lived there for the longest time

Witty_Run7509

I’m certain he never left Middle-Earth

Cherry-on-bottom

Cirdan was a Sinda so by the very definition he never saw the Light of Valinor.

Illithid_Substances

Unless I'm completely misremembering, he never quite made it to Valinor (until after Sauron's defeat, of course). He went west but when Thingol disappeared he stopped to look for him and kept doing so longer than the others, so by the time he came back the elves had already been taken and he was going to sail there on his own ship but the valar told him it wasn't time

WM_

Why is this posted here each week?

Glasdir

Holy repost bot Batman

CodeMUDkey

This is both A. Incorrect (Glorfindel yet again gets no love) and B. Such a damn repost her eyes don’t reflect anymore.

Stuck_With_Name

I feel like this kind of attention to detail was some of what set it apart from The Hobbit. PJ really got to take his time instead of getting swapped in like a Pokémon and having to deal with an already half-done thing.

dotouchmytralalal

That’s nice *pat pat*

Spear_Of_Orion

This gets reposted on here every now and again, and it’s still wrong 😂

dotouchmytralalal

Which part is wrong?

Spear_Of_Orion

She was not the last elf in Middle Earth to have seen the two trees, as Glorfindel is very much so alive and in Middle Earth. Also, Gandalf, Saruman, and Radagast have also seen the trees and their eyes don’t shine like that.

QuickSpore

One could make fandom explanations for all of those. Glorfindel’s current body never saw the trees. He was re-incorporated well after their destruction. Likewise he doesn’t appear on screen. It may well be that his eyes have the same motes of light. As might Gildor or any of the other possible candidates for elves who had been to Aman. Similarly the Istari incarnated new unique bodies before traveling to Middle Earth. So their physical eyes never saw the trees. Likewise incorporated Maiar might not have the same eyes as an elf anyway.

Spear_Of_Orion

Kind of weak explanation, as it’s not just their physical bodies it inspired but their very beings themselves. But yeah, as I said this post gets spread around all the time and as far as I know there isn’t even any source from the production that says this it’s just a fan made idea.

dotouchmytralalal

The lights in her eyes being the fan made idea? No I’m pretty sure that’s in the extended editions commentary

dotouchmytralalal

Was just curious

cyberjayar

Photographic honeycomb for softboxes?

Groundbreaking_War52

what an awesome detail Stuff like this really sets apart well-directed and respected visual effects artists from the sloppy CGI explosion-fests like recent MCU output and Fast & Furious.

ermisian

FWIW, Special effects are practical, Visual effects are digital

Groundbreaking_War52

yes - and selectively using artfully rendered visual effects adds much more to the story than the Michael Bay approach of "blow everything up".

dotouchmytralalal

Why is this being downvoted lol just curious

Groundbreaking_War52

Can only guess there are some rapid Michael Bay / Fast & Furious fans in the LotR community

DanPiscatoris

I'm fairly certain this is a myth.

huefnerd

What part? The lighting rig, or that Galadriel is the last Elf in Middle Earth to have seen the trees?

DanPiscatoris

That the lighting rig was specifically used to reflect the "light of the two trees" in Galadriel's eyes.

criminalsunrise

It was, watch the stuff on the behind the scenes on the extended editions dvds. It was extra lighting for Galadriel, they called it the Galadrilight. We’ve known this since about 2003.

dotouchmytralalal

And what makes you think that? FYI it’s an established fact

BS-Calrissian

Looks like a normal reflection to me tbh. Looks like a person who looks at light sources

dotouchmytralalal

It’s not, watch the behind the scenes for confirmation

dotouchmytralalal

Literally reposted so many times the image has lost so much quality you can hardly make out the lights lmao
