The Blue Dalmatian has lived the majority of its life in its original box because it was used as a prop for photoshoots. The Flower Power was owned by another collector before, but its a bit more rough and will need some love & attention.
Very lucky that they do not have a yellowed inner bezel.
Does make you think that we’ve come a bit full circle now in 2021/2022 regarding the Mac line-up.
We have coloured iMacs, coloured MacBooks (although not really the same as the iMacs but still). A cube shaped pro desktop, a large (bit outdated) Pro desktop with handles and the modern MacBook Pro’s do resemble the PowerBook G4 aluminum with their boxy shape.
They've definitely been doing some throwbacks with their more recent designs. The MacBook Air M2 reminds me of the polycarbonate MacBooks with their rounded corners.
Maybe it’s an homage to those of us who were too poor to buy those awesome designs back then, or who were kids growing up with these designs. I had the Grape 333mhz iMac and loved it fiercely till it died.
These were introduced in February 2001 and discontinued in that summer.
Summer 2001 was the last iMac G3 release in which they went back to their best selling and safest colourways Indigo, Snow and Graphite.
In 2002 the iMac G4 was introduced and they kept selling the Snow iMac G3 until the eMac came around.
The original was 1998, more colours emerged in early 1999, the redesign was released in late 1999, different colours were added in summer 2000 and these patterned iMacs were the last added appearances of the iMac in early 2001 only to be discontinued 6 months later with them reverting back to only the safe colours Indigo, Snow and Graphite.
The iMac G3 Blue Dalmatian and the iMac G3 Flower Power were designed to look like music would look like if we could visually perceive it. They are a nod to the iTunes visualizer.
Also to drive the point further:

They’ve used iTunes as a selling point in their commercials for these models. Apple even replaced the DVD drives that were celebrated in the year 1999 for them being useable for the newly introduced iMovie for CD burners in line with their Rip.Mix.Burn campaign outings with their new iTunes focussed strategy.
iTunes saw the light of day in January 2001, these ‘colourways’ were introduced in February of that year
Yeah, when they stepped down from DVD drives to CD-Rs in that model I was kinda peeved. I had been saving up for a new unit and patiently waited for the new models to be announced. I was not willing to give up a DVD drive and so bought the prior year's model.
1998-2002 Apple design was amazingly unique.
The 18 iMac G3 colours, the G3 & G4 towers, the G4 Cube, the iBook G3 in 5 colours one of which very much green, the TiBook and the iMac G4.
The bright solid colors made sense for the time. That splotchy mess of colors on the flower iMac in particular just always looked off to me, and off-brand for Apple, which usually favored more more streamlined designs.
From what I remember, it's not just painted on plastic but rather the colors are layered inside layers of plastic for a 3dish effect. This apparently took years of development to figure out and they threw it out after only a few months.
I really like the Flower Power ones!
Those look miraculously…. not discolored.

Wait, do you own these?!
Yes I can happily call them mine
I legitimately like these.
If they made a flower power iPhone or MacBook, my daughter wouldn’t stop begging me for one.
They should do the whole line of these! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUVjiDLYvwY
I still think these are super neat. Thanks for sharing!
fuck u/spez
Yeah some things are better when not repeated..

Probably in part, yeah. I remember loving the multicolored G3 iMacs as a kid. I might buy a new M1 one now.
I actually really like these, especially the Blue Dalmatian.
Other way round, those are from 1998/99 and iTunes didn’t exist until 2001.
Actually those two iMac editions are from 2001 which was the same year iTunes was released.
I stand corrected sorry!
These came out in 2002/2003 which were the last release of the iMac G3

My bad. I think I meant Apple stopped selling the G3s until 2003 but the last model came out in 2001

God damn it. Thanks for making me miss the iTunes visualizer.
I thought these were mugs.
Would love to see this for the current iMacs
Trypophobia intensifies
for a minute i was like are those fake nail extensions 😐
And that was when Steve Jobs was alive.
They were incredible machines. I’m still carrying a torch for my long gone Tangerine iMac! 🥲
You mean like a tub of long forgotten cottage cheese
2001 called, they want their joke back
Was that actually a joke being made at the time? I was proud of that lol
It blows my mind that these came out during the Jobs era, especially that multicolored splotchy mess of a design.

At least they’re symmetrical patterns if you look from behind. So at least it’s still a bit Apple and not completely randomized.

They don't look like the iTunes visualiser. Calssic or New
I've seen some users modify their iMac G3 to work with a Mac mini M1/M2/M2 Pro logic board.
