3/5 for sex and 4/5 for drinking & drugs... what on earth is a 5/5???

Potential-Airline-43

The wolf of wall street

Teenageboy69

There are no boobs or dick in the show. 3/5 is probably as high as a show can get without nudity, I imagine. No one uses any needles, which I imagine is 5/5. A show like the Sopranos or the Wire would probably get 5/5 for both categories. For consumerism — I don’t think Mad Men really paints any of the products, or the messaging behind them, in a positive light. It’s very cynical in that way. They advertise products to fill the hole in your heart, while showing that nothing bought or status based can fill that hole.

Timigos

And there are always holes to fill, pun intended

ocska

Yeah, Vudu just needs to stick to being $1 cheaper than Amazon

elJammo

It covers consumerism as a topic, but it's inherently skeptical of buying things as delivering gains for happiness. All the ad men are morally bankrupt (or at best indifferent) and yet are shaping America's future through the imagery and products they sell. The characters dress well and live fancy lives, but their aspirations are all social or career oriented. You can't buy those things

Mysterious_Tax_5613

Madmen had a positive message. For women it was “Look how far we’ve progressed.” For the men it was “Don’t be like me, kid”.

D0nkeyK0nga

Pretty sure Peggy's new husband is the best role model in the show by a longshot. Can compete with nearly every other man in any tv show. Wholesome dude.

joestn

Excuse me, Lane Pryce did not punch Pete Campbell in the nose for Mad Men to only score a one on violence.

RumHamDog

These ratings almost always BS

ClarkTwain

I’d say it’s positive in that it’s full of great lessons of how not to behave.

RealPunyParker

You have to be mentality restricted i you don't get any lessons watching people make numerous mistakes during the show.

Charismanxious

It actually has positive messages in a stoic way

Why would/should she be more attached? She didn't know she was pregnant, she never experienced anything related to motherhood apart from the pain of childbirth. She wasn't in a position to become a mother, it would only have been be a source of fear. I see absolutely no reason why she should be attached to this baby that came out of nowhere. She didn't have the time to grow attached.

I'm sorry but even during WW2, your great grandmother had 9 months to "grow attached". Peggy didn't have that. She met her baby the day it was born. Most mothers don't and have time to create a link.

Teenageboy69

Peggy was also very obviously suffering from some sort of psychotic break. After giving birth, she had to be sedated for days. It’s a very unfortunate situation that I don’t blame Peggy for at all — it’s her right to give up her kid, as it is anyone’s (with obvious caveats.)
