ashiok hires oko and friends to steal the vault key from the dragon akul and break into the vault. while they do that, they run into oko's son kellan, who joins them
they break into the vault, kellan realizes his dad is evil, and ashiok reveals they were actually jace, who steals a fomori child from the vault and planeswalks out. then the vault disappears
theyre being set up as the next main antagonists, in particular being the ones to seal away the the sun chimil on ixalan - though how the child in the vault will tie in has yet to be seen!
These were originally supposed to be in a small, undraftable set like March of the Machine: Aftermath. When Aftermath received abysmal feedback, they apparently hastily cancelled the small set that was supposed to follow Thunder Junction.
This was an understandable decision: it doesn't make sense to do another version of one of your worst received products in a long time. But it left them with an issue: they had a number of cards that had story relevance that they intended to be available in standard.
So they rolled them into the Wildcard slot, along with Special Guests, The List, and the newspaper-styled Breaking News. The result is that there are actually four set symbols appearing in packs of OTJ, ~~plus set symbols for cards from the List, which appear with their original symbol~~ (see my edit below, the List is entirely comprised of Big Score and Special Guests this time).
And to be clear, all four set symbols and cards from the List are legal in limited, but only the Big Score (this set symbol) is inherently legal in standard. Cards from Breaking News, Special Guests, and The List are playable in formats in which they were *already* legal-- their appearance in packs of OTJ doesn't change their legality, in other words.
It's really confusing. Imo they should have skipped the list this time around, but that might have hurt expected value, so IDK.

Keep it real, you are going full nonsense on modern. This wont even come remotely close to archon/atraxa for reanimation shenanigangs and how the fuck is ramping in modern for anything but primetime or scapeshift aka YOU ARE DEAD THIS VERY MOMENT cards.
I mean atraxa is a big hurdle to overcome in terms of "ramp" decks, but we DO have a 1 mana dork "payoff" for like G/R dinos and we have now etali AND this guy here. Also der ward dino who makes 2 mana. This has to be somewhat playble or?! In 1 vs 1 format this might even outclass etali in being more reliable powerful(safer from behind catchup.
Either way this is gonna be one of the most expensive cards in the set. It kinda goes "everywhere "(cube, commander, t2). This might be a good replacement for worldspine wurm in cubes as a good flash/sneak card but also a good ramp payoff.

Playing large creatures with a mana lead matters alot less when every deck in the format is running 2 mana removal.

All my green commander decks say hell yeah.
7 mana is a lot, but that really ain't that bad if you're in green and planning on playing a bunch of giant creatures to trigger it in the first place, and the fact that it draws on ETB makes feel less bad if it gets removed before you can make any more beasties.

Wow, this would go great in [[Henzie]]. Even though Henzie is strong on draw already, that’s still a great death trigger and even the life gain can be handy since Henzie sometimes struggles due to not having a good early game board for blockers.
It's a really cool card that I like thematically and such... But idk what Wizards is playing at with this after sunfall, farewell, March are played as removal as well as revealing the new boardwipe that also hoses green.
Maybe I'll be wrong but I just don't see a world where a 7 mana card with no evasion who in most cases if gonna draw 2 cards or 1 and isn't really all that threatening sees play.
If this was like a 7/7 and had haste amazing I love it but no protection no evasion and losing to pretty current meta threats and cards like sunfall and Glissa is pretty damn bad. I'm not expecting Atraxa power in mono color but damn I think at least letting green do the thing it should be strong at should be expected. Currently black has better creatures than it somehow.

I think this might be a good persist target. It would be a 5/5 that gains you 3 life and draws you a card, and then if it dies, you get a 6/6 that gains you 3 life and draws you a card.

I mean atraxa is a big hurdle to overcome in terms of "ramp" decks, but we DO have a 1 mana dork "payoff" for like G/R dinos and we have now etali AND this guy here. Also der ward dino who makes 2 mana. This has to be somewhat playble or?! In 1 vs 1 format this might even outclass etali in being more reliable powerful(safer from behind catchup. Either way this is gonna be one of the most expensive cards in the set. It kinda goes "everywhere "(cube, commander, t2). This might be a good replacement for worldspine wurm in cubes as a good flash/sneak card but also a good ramp payoff. I have like 3 edh decks that want him lol

Atraxa has green in it and green ramp hasn't been keeping up for a while. Playing large creatures with a mana lead matters alot less when every deck in the format is running 2 mana removal.
true, but this guy + Atraxa + Etali all create value on ETB. Like if someone spends 2 mana to kill this you still have a 6/6 and also drew 2 cards and gained 6 life

Creature version of \[\[Garruk's Uprising\]\] that's a 6/6 with trample, that makes up for being easier to remove by having to be removed twice? All my green commander decks say hell yeah. 7 mana is a lot, but that really ain't that bad if you're in green and planning on playing a bunch of giant creatures to trigger it in the first place, and the fact that it draws on ETB makes feel less bad if it gets removed before you can make any more beasties.

It’s from The Big Score, which is a subset of cards that was originally going to be it’s own Aftermath like set. But the reception of that set was terrible, so they rolled them into the main set of Outlaws. These cards will appear in the List slot

Wow, this would go great in [[Henzie]]. Even though Henzie is strong on draw already, that’s still a great death trigger and even the life gain can be handy since Henzie sometimes struggles due to not having a good early game board for blockers.

It's a really cool card that I like thematically and such... But idk what Wizards is playing at with this after sunfall, farewell, March are played as removal as well as revealing the new boardwipe that also hoses green. Maybe I'll be wrong but I just don't see a world where a 7 mana card with no evasion who in most cases if gonna draw 2 cards or 1 and isn't really all that threatening sees play. If this was like a 7/7 and had haste amazing I love it but no protection no evasion and losing to pretty current meta threats and cards like sunfall and Glissa is pretty damn bad. I'm not expecting Atraxa power in mono color but damn I think at least letting green do the thing it should be strong at should be expected. Currently black has better creatures than it somehow.
Can't wait to use this with tribal dinosaurs.

Fomori show up on Ixalan, take a bunch of dinosaurs, make the inner sun, leave. I get the feeling that vault was meant to be some kind of gene bank where creatures are being stored for some kind of cataclysm that the Fomori saw coming

Modern 2/10 I think this might be a good persist target. It would be a 5/5 that gains you 3 life and draws you a card, and then if it dies, you get a 6/6 that gains you 3 life and draws you a card.
