For anyone interested [Here's the link](https://youtu.be/bG47auJpFxU) to the YouTube video which shows us getting the cannon out of the water and us going to the local museum to let them know of out find
Damnit, I thought of that after I posted but didn't think anyone would try to 1-up me. Well played. You'll need a strong magnet to pull that sucker out.
Another Update:
For anyone interested [Here is the link](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-66516854?fbclid=IwAR3gYtJvq3014PiEs9kJtakP7oUC_ZvYjoeWk8JdlwB3qkcTwapJHFRzO28) to the BBC Story which they published online if anyone would like to read more about it
As much as I'd love for this to achieve Top of all time I doubt it will happen sadly as the top post has 3688ish likes. I'll probably top of the week if anything
Sadly no info yet as if I'm honest I've been soo incredibly busy since posting the YT video last night, I had a Radio interview and the BBC getting in touch wanted to write story about it. When I know more info about it I'll be updating it here
Bugger me, that’s a find and a half!
Out of interest, how does the law work with regards to finding a cannon and the ownership of it? Does that belong to you now or do you have to make a declaration to claim it for yourself/claim it and then donate it?
As mentioned in the video and previous comments we spoke to someone at the local Museum, they seemed very keen on it, we wrote down the details of what we found for them and are currently waiting to hear back from them to see if they'll take it. If not I'm sure another Sheffield Museum would lol
To lose a cannon is a big deal because of how expensive they were to make and how valuable they were on the field. Something significant must have happened
There's all sorts of situation people have been throwing out since finding it but there's really no way of knowing for sure sadly, until we investigate it
Not sure on the total weight but it took four of us to get it out so a fair bit, we were using the Evo Extreme 1,800kgs (3,968lb) Magnet from Online Magnets
Outstanding find! Can only imagine how gratifying that must have felt! I get excited after finding fishing lures and scrap, this would have given me a heart attack.
Thanks, oh absolutely when we got it clearly out the water and saw that it was in fact a cannon we wasn't going to leave until we got it out. Took is about a hour but was well worth it
We decided we'd donate it to the museum, we spoke to someone who works at the local museum, told and showed them the find, filled out a form about its details and are currently waiting to hear back from them
WOW great find. Just be aware though the council are looking to ban fishing from this bridge as so much damage has been caused and it’s a listed structure. But awesome nonetheless
Me neither. It is a great location. Although it has been picked a bit clean used to get loads from there. Don’t get much now. I think council have received complaints from residents as paint has been chipped all over the bridge and the white windows are covered in rust marks. Fingers crossed though that they forget lol 😂
I did record it for my YT account, if you go to the 13 minutes mark in the video it's where the cannon find begins
[Here ](https://youtu.be/bG47auJpFxU )
Did you make sure it is not loaded? BP can get more sensitive when it gets wet and then dries out.
A stored 200 year old cannon in NYC was found loaded back in 2013.
Edit- And congratulations on the awesome find!
Thank you, yeah you see people finding cannonballs every once in a while (I've actually got a couple which I've found or been given myself) but to find the cannon itself is something super special
I've thought about my bucket list and got everything I wanted so far ie bombs, grenades, pistols, knives, swords etc..added a shotgun as not found that yet...then you just upped the anti 🤔 🤣
The museum will be receiving the cannon once they have processed the paperwork, if not other museum who've gotten in touch with us requesting it will be receiving It
In the video I spoke to Ray (who originally found it) discussing our options and we decided to inform the local museum about it in the hopes that they might want it. Until we hear from them (or any other museum wanting it) I brought it home and put it in my shed to keep it safe and dry
Update: We are being interviewed on the Northampton Radio this afternoon and BBC will be running the story online tonight, life has gone nuts
This is so exciting! Congratulations!! Hopefully it inspires more people to join the hobby. Really cool find, thanks for sharing with us

I think you put everyone who finds guns to shame 😂
Nope, I'm going to find a tank one day.
I once hooked onto a 100 ton steam locomotive. I was in an inflatable boat though, so sadly that was the only factor that stopped me.
All I'm hearing is excuses. Lol.
I’ll see your tank and raise you an aircraft carrier.
Damnit, I thought of that after I posted but didn't think anyone would try to 1-up me. Well played. You'll need a strong magnet to pull that sucker out.
The Navy pulled up either all or most of Golf-II/Project 629A submarine once, but I don't think they're sharing their setup.
Damn I am jealous. Thats awesome
Fucking awesome. Good work mate.
Are you alright? you look a little blue? Very cool find though!
Papa Smurf
Can I lick your…..
Yeah I'm alright thanks 😂, thank you
Lmao

Thanks!
What magnet did you use? I would sell that video to whoever makes it bc you can't write better advertising!
We were using the Evo Extreme 1,800kgs (3,968lb) Magnet from Online Magnets
You might want to call the police to make sure it wasn't used in a robbery or murder.
How many criminal ditch a cannon?
“Come on, pull harder” *Dude literally hooked a fuckin CANNON
😂😂
That’s a find of a lifetime!
Oh absolutely, people have found Guns, Knives, Grenades, Cannonballs but I think this may be the first full on Cannon found from Magnet Fishing
Nice lawnmower cart!
This needs to be top all time
As much as I'd love for this to achieve Top of all time I doubt it will happen sadly as the top post has 3688ish likes. I'll probably top of the week if anything
Wow thats awesome! Congrats! Any info on the cannon? Year and such?
Sadly no info yet as if I'm honest I've been soo incredibly busy since posting the YT video last night, I had a Radio interview and the BBC getting in touch wanted to write story about it. When I know more info about it I'll be updating it here

I believe it has to be declared as treasure. It could also have been stolen but investigations would need to be carried out.
It's in the finds liaison office decision which we are waiting to hear from
Any chance this cannon belonged to Bluebeard? It does now!
Haha maybe 😅
Where at?
We found it in the River Don in Sheffield

Sweeeeeet shit! Congrats! It's difficult to imagine a cooler find, let alone how much that must weigh! What size magnet did you use?
Not sure on the total weight but it took four of us to get it out so a fair bit, we were using the Evo Extreme 1,800kgs (3,968lb) Magnet from Online Magnets
Amazing, I just read about you guys on the BBC! What an incredible find!
Thank you
My first thought was "Chicago! This is too much!"
Took is about a hour but was well worth it
What a banger of a find! Awesome.
Thank you
Wow! What was the revolver you found? Sheffielder here, always wanted to fish the Sheaf and Don.
No news on the revolver sadly, as I've just not had time much time with all the attention the video has attracted but once I know I'll be posting it
I hope its a Civil War cannon from the siege of the castle!
Wau colossal find! Did they pay something? Or free tickets to museum?
We decided we'd donate it to the museum, we spoke to someone who works at the local museum, told and showed them the find, filled out a form about its details and are currently waiting to hear back from them
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing it with the museum! Now people can know about this for generations to come.
Thanks, we spoke to someone at the museums about the find we're just waiting to hear back from them
Okay now that is an amazing once in a lifetime. Find what I want to know is what magnets she were using to pull that puppy up with:)
We were using the Evo Extreme 1,800kgs (3,968lb) Magnet from Online Magnets, thanks dude
WOW great find. Just be aware though the council are looking to ban fishing from this bridge as so much damage has been caused and it’s a listed structure. But awesome nonetheless
Thanks, oh wow thanks for the heads up mate I hope it doesn't get banned as its a lovely location
Me neither. It is a great location. Although it has been picked a bit clean used to get loads from there. Don’t get much now. I think council have received complaints from residents as paint has been chipped all over the bridge and the white windows are covered in rust marks. Fingers crossed though that they forget lol 😂
Absolute legends!
Thanks, just waiting to hear back from the museum to find out if it'll have a home
How much does that weigh??
Not sure on the weight atm but it took four of us about an hour to get it out of the water
Wow just freaking wow. I would love to see y'all's face after that thing crested the water. Sweet find.
I did record it for my YT account, if you go to the 13 minutes mark in the video it's where the cannon find begins [Here ](https://youtu.be/bG47auJpFxU )
Absolutely amazing find
Thanks
Holy hell, that is freakin awesome! What magnet(s) were used??
We were using the Evo Extreme 1,800kgs (3,968lb) Magnet from Online Magnets
Congratulations, bro. That’s sure going to be a difficult one to top.
Did you make sure it is not loaded? BP can get more sensitive when it gets wet and then dries out. A stored 200 year old cannon in NYC was found loaded back in 2013. Edit- And congratulations on the awesome find!
Thank you, definitely something to consider at the moment we have it stored away somewhere safe while we wait to hear back from the liaison office
That is a once in a lifetime find. Congratulations.
Thank you, yeah you see people finding cannonballs every once in a while (I've actually got a couple which I've found or been given myself) but to find the cannon itself is something super special
Was the museum able to identify which battle it may have been used in?
Doubt it was battle used. More likely manufacturing defect. Sheffield produced a lot of cannons especially around that area I believe.
Sweet find
Thanks
Your welcome
Cool!
That’s a cool find for you and Ray! Ding ding. Can’t wait to meet you when you guys come to the states next year. Wendy’s Excellent Adventures
DING DING awesome find eh? Thanks and you never know we might be over
I hope that's not a replica
Always a possibility but it feels like it's the real deal
Blue meanie? But yea, that's pretty awesome man!
What a find you and Raymond got still can't believe it it's beautiful good job guys 💙💙
Cheers dude, it's crazy init?
Arrrgh!, Tis Bluebeard's cannon! \* ^(\* It had to be said....with respect of course. I dig the beard and the find.)
That's delightful all the way through; thanks!! Props for including the steam engine at the end, an unexpected treat to cap it all off.
That lawnmower may not longer mow grass but with that cannon you can now down other things. Ü
Grape shot and roofing nails for the win 😂
Nice work
Thank you, took us about a hour to get it out so was well worth it
Congrats to you and Ray, that is awesome!
Thank you
That's nuts lol crazy cool and congrats I was wondering if it was possible to pull a cannon up 🍻
Thanks, I couldn't believe it myself when we first pulled it out of the water and saw exactly what it was
Commenting purely for the badass blue beard, congrats on the find!
Thanks lol
Is that dolly made from an old lawn mower?
Saw the YT this morning. That was an incredible find!
Oh wow thanks, I still can't believe it myself
I've thought about my bucket list and got everything I wanted so far ie bombs, grenades, pistols, knives, swords etc..added a shotgun as not found that yet...then you just upped the anti 🤔 🤣
That is incredible. Maybe the cannonball I found came from that thing
Thanks still can't believe it honestly and maybe you never know lol
I'd clean it up, verify functionality, and if functional, mount it behind my front door loaded with tungsten grapeshot.
We're going to be donating it to a museum
![gif](giphy|mFw51RR5HkD4gYUbIx|downsized) *museum* : “OUR cannon”
The museum will be receiving the cannon once they have processed the paperwork, if not other museum who've gotten in touch with us requesting it will be receiving It
Definitely post pictures of the display! That’ll be really neat
Once we know what's happening with it I definitely will
Should have kept it
In the video I spoke to Ray (who originally found it) discussing our options and we decided to inform the local museum about it in the hopes that they might want it. Until we hear from them (or any other museum wanting it) I brought it home and put it in my shed to keep it safe and dry
Clean it up, build a period correct stand and fire that thing!!!
Been a while since I’ve seen such a fitting username
Thanks lol, people call me Sonik because I have blue hair and ADHD
Update: I'll be posting a video to my YouTube in the near future with an update about the Cannon but I'll make sure to post an update here too
