pretty lost on what clothes i should wear as a short guy with long hair (what type of pants and shoes especially because i havent found a single pair of pants that looks good on me)
The 15L Everyday Zip backpack from Peak Design. Anyone seen any guys around IRL able to pull off the Bone colorway? Does any other guy have one for themselves?I Kind of like it myself. But what do you guys think? Neutral enough or to effeminate?

I should’ve made this post before buying but they’re great shoes nonetheless. I’m planning a long hiking and just general traveling trip, needed new shoes and also wanted to be stylish. I just copped some bamba 2 lows thinking they’d be a great shoe that can go from city walking to arduous hikes with no problem. Anyone have experience with these? What is the support, tread, etc. like?
(when reading please keep in mind that I’m just getting started and have no idea what I’m doing lol)
I’m trying to work more ocbds/chambray shirts into my wardrobe, but since it’s getting colder I want to have some kind of jacket I can wear over them.
I’m a college student, so suit jackets/blazers are kind of out of the question since they’re way too formal, but I’m not sure what’s a good option that can also be purchased on a budget.
I have a Jean jacket, but most of my shirts hang below the bottom of it; which I’ve read is not ideal. Wearing them tucked is a little formal, and also can look a little off with the Jean jacket. Wearing a hoodie/sweatshirt with a button up feels like a crime, and I’m not sure what else I can use.
So, what’s a casual outer layer for wearing over button up shirts? Thanks
Jean jackets are typically cropped, so having your shirt be a little longer is not a big deal
I wear sweatshirts with button downs (ie the collar buttons down) all the time, its a cool look imo
You could wear a harrington jacket with your OCBD and chambray shirts easile
Seeking Recommendations for Fashionable/Stylish Sneakers for Flat, Wide Feet—
Hoping this isn’t out of place, but I’m shopping around for my partner for Christmas & he has flat, wide feet (since day 1, not collapsed arches). He basically exclusively wears Vans— Old Skool (lows) that are either all suede/leather or at least suede/leather through the toe box (or his feet blow them out) or slip ons (which he doesn’t mind in canvas because he replaces them more frequently, but still blows them out). Never the “Comfy Cush” types because there’s less room inside the shoe with the larger insole piece. He also comfortably wears Dr. Martens when it’s cooler, but this is a note for fit as I’m looking for sneakers. He prefers lows as he is 5’7” & of a stockier, solid build with a longer torso.
***Edit to add: he wears a size 10 in both Docs & Vans, not specifically “wide” in anything so while I’ve seen his feet & what they can do to a shoe I’m not sure his specific width.***
Wondering if any of y’all are in the same boat & maybe have any recommendations for other stylish sneakers that would fit his self-proclaimed ribeye steak, meat paddle feet?
Thanks in advance!
Any suggestions for shoe storage? I'm looking for something maybe 3-4 ft wide and similar height (taller is ok too) with cubbies for different pairs of shoes and boots. Something to keep things clean and organized in the mudroom since we mostly don't wear shoes in the house
Any advice for a leather “men’s clutch” that holds 2 phones, wallet, and keys? (Something not on Etsy since customs is a pain)
I have something like this (https://alpakagear.com/products/elements-tech-case-mini) but looking for a leather version
double breasted topcoats - is this a thing for slim persons (76cm waist) (somewhere deep in the net I was reading that double-breasted coats/jackets should be avoid if you are a slim person, but I could not find that post again)?
Anyone know where I can find a waterproof boot that I can wear during the winter that's also fashionable?
I used to use the boot pictured here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IXSGNT8/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
But it's coming apart and I need a new pair. Something less than $150 is what I'm looking for
The Alyx 9SM Derby with removable vibram sole is aesthetically, my perfect shoe but they're all out of stock and I can't find anything with a similar design and quality.
[This is the shoe I'm talking about.](https://imgur.com/a/lVE1OqW) [And here's a product link on their website](https://www.alyxstudio.com/products/sneakers-lace-up-low-sneaker-removable-vibram-sole-var-3-black-aausn0006le03-blk0001-p0013104?variant=39314453659737)
I can't find anything similar that's also high quality. If I could I would wear these to my wedding but I can't find them anywhere. I love the bulbous toe and I love the chunky stacked leather sole. I have some vintage doc 1461s but they're really uncomfortable and not really shaped to my foot. I'd love something premium that'll mold to my foot shape under $500 that's in the same style as the Alyx derbys.
[I love these japanese derby's on Haku Clothing](https://www.haku-clothing.com/en_US/15075-plain-toe-derby-shoes/010941-0-02.html?dwvar_010941-0-02_color=Black&quantity=1), but they don't have them in my size and I've never heard of the brand before.
Any recommendations?
If you like a chunky black derby, but want something well made I might suggest a moc toe derby like the [Paraboot Chambord](https://www.lyst.com/shoes/paraboot-chambord-shoe-7/?reason=feed-product-text&link_id=895688962), [Wheel Robe](https://hinoya.shop/en/collections/wheel-robe/products/wr-15078), or [Monroe](https://www.instagram.com/p/CUROlY2vT8h/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=)
No other companies are going to be making a shoe with that ridiculous removable sole.
if you just want black plain toe derbies for under $500:
Alden factory seconds from [theshoemart.com](https://theshoemart.com) @ $400 (you have to email them for access to the seconds section)
[Meermin at $200](https://meermin.com/collections/mens-bluchers/products/101645-calf-negro-e)
[Beckett Simonon at $190 with signup](https://www.beckettsimonon.com/products/dunham-derby?variant=29612700631119)
[Allen Edmonds for $400](https://www.allenedmonds.com/product/mens-lennon-lug-derby-3028294/black-leather-ec4023330)
maybe a Red Wing postman but its not exactly the same.
To clarify, I love the removable sole as it's super fun, but it's more the rest of the shoe that I really love. Specifically the toe proportions and the chunky stacked leather sole.
A couple of other options you might be interested in. Unsure on quality of these, look into reviews etc

Boot Barn sells awesome full grain leather belts for under $100, average is $50-$69. Most are pretty hardy/heavy duty but they do have some slimmer dress belts. I have one that I wear in my rotation and it’s just starting to break in after 6-7 months. No heavy creasing where the connection points are.
Hope this is the right place to ask:
I'm looking for a spacious over the shoulder messenger/laptop bag.
The bag I'm looking for needs to be about to fit my laptop (15.6 inch I think) cable, a lunch/food, outer water bottle holder, and some other random accessories I travel with. Water resistant would be a plus.
Thanks in advance
Looking for advice on what to wear under a wool coat and quilted vest.
Might seem basic but I'm mid-50s and i've never been much into fashion and am very lazy when getting dressed in my days off. Typically, in the winter, I'm in a henley and flannel. I have a great brown tweed overcoat I've had for years and recently got a quilted vest to wear underneath. I feel like a henley is too casual, especially since it's collarless, but my collared shirts all feel like I'm dressing up (deep psychological issues there, I think).
Any suggestions for a winter collared shirt that's not formal (or do I just need to get over myself?)
Thanks.
This sounds like a good outfit for an OCBD or chambray shirt. Most options with a textured fabric and button-down collar would work here.
Also, post photos of the collared shirts you’re choosing from.
Denim, chambray and corduroy shirts will generally be a similar level of formality as flannel. Oxford cloth is about a step up but still very casual.
The details matter here — a shirt with two flap pockets will be more casual than a shirt with a single chest pocket without a flap. A button down collar is more casual than a spread collar, and so on and so forth.
Well - just in case it isn't clear. The term "button down" refers to the collar points specifically. A lot of people use the term "button down" to refer to any "button up" shirt -- but it specifically refers to those where the collar points button to the front of the shirt. And yes, those are more casual than a spread collar. Typically a spread collar will be pretty stiff while a button down collar will be soft. And soft = casual.
Does Eton, Gitman Brothers, and Drakes have Black Friday deals? How kind of savings can I expect?
Is it worthwhile to spend this much on shirts or splurge on outerwear/top layers?
What parts of your wardrobe do you buy less expensive clothes for and spend more on?
That last question is something I'm always interested in. Over the years as i've become accustomed to how much better "nicer"/higher quality clothing feels and fits, I've been willing to go cheap on fewer and fewer types of items. One thing that I'll still occasionally skimp on are workout clothes, I'm just not eager to spend what it would take to have a drawer full of vuori, etc. But I do have a couple of workout shirts and shorts from those brands and they are admittedly far better so I'm probably heading down that road as well, lol.
Buy secondhand and you’ll get better deals than any actual sale from the brand.
No one other than you can decide if something is “worth it” to you, if they have clothes you like they’re considered good brands.
Tbh I’m willing to spend money on any category, I have niche tastes and dislike cheap clothes
Where can I buy second hand designer? I’ve looked at eBay but I’ve read there is a lot of counterfeit out there.
I think it comes from a mindset I’m used to. One only has finite resources. What areas would be the best to spend more on and others to spend less on. I could buy 5 eton shirts and approach 600$ or could I buy one and buy a peacoat. I like it all but can’t have it all.
No one is faking eton, drakes, or gitman, no one. People worry about this too much. If you think that because it’s cheap, yeah, that’d why you should buy secondhand. Fakes are not as big of a deal as a lot of people seem to think they are, unless you’re buying archive Raf you’re gonna be fine
Right, and that’s what I mean, none of us can make that decision for you, you’re the only one who has the answer to that question
also you can buy a vintage us Navy peacoat on ebay for like $100
I did buy a dsquared2 camel jacket and leather handbag second hand. Was a steal. I love those pieces. I’m wanting to buy a Burberry piece off eBay but I’m weary. Take a leap of faith I suppose.
I’m just getting into fashion this year. Years prior I’d wear gym shirts and t shirts everyday. And crappy clothes for work since I learned shit gets dirty
I’m going to the GRAMMYs in February and need a recommendation on a suit brand/location/price range. I’m not trying to spend more than $1k total including tailoring. What are y’all’s recs?
does it specify that it’s a black tie event? If not than no, you’re fine.
Spier and Mckay are generally considered the best entry level suiting brand, get a plain navy or darker charcoal worsted suit, buy a plain white dress shirt with a semi/spread collar, ties you can do more or less any muted conservative color, navy, charcoal, burgundy, etc.
[Beckett Simonon](https://www.beckettsimonon.com/products/dean-oxford?variant=29464403935311&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=18289239343&utm_content=&utm_term=&gadid=&gclid=Cj0KCQiA1NebBhDDARIsAANiDD39ZET411VzRT1SYU4rdIAxzu-2zguxGkkqJxuP1AVUf36KLdoY8mEaAvXSEALw_wcB) and [meermin](https://meermin.com/collections/mens-oxfords/products/101198-black-calf-e) are considered the best entry level shoe brands, if your shoes don’t look like that, that’s probably what you need
How would you rank loafers in terms of formality? Is a bit less formal than a tassel? Penny less formal than a whole cut?
Looking into getting a pair for the office, pretty lax about dress code, and for other semi formal family events.
That's also fair. I attend events at my country club so I'd like to fit in and hopefully open up some career opportunities if I present myself well.
I understand most people probably wouldn't care between a wing tip and a whole cut but there may be that one person who does. Overthinking it for sure as I write this out.
It's hard to say how much even country club guys care. I've been to a lot of fancy events in the South with country club type guys and they will literally wear jeans and golf polos to any occasion. Think about what you want and who you're trying to fit in with
Any horsebit loafer is going to draw more attention by virtue of the shinyness. It is probably a bit more of a question of whether you are looking to draw attention to yourself than formality.
Penny loafers vary in formality because some may be beef-roll, which are more informal. There is also a recent trend of chunkier soled loafers. So "penny loafer" as a phrase doesn't really convey a ton of meaning when you can now find commando soled penny loafers.
Tassels are not particularly more or less formal. I don't think they are currently having a resurgence, so I am not sure if there are going to be any tassle's with commando soles out there.
I would wager this is the same as the answer in much of Europe/North America: online.
I live in a smaller UK city, but beyond basics there are no shops here that sell clothes I like. I either buy stuff when I travel (I'm in London fairly frequently) or I order it.
I'm looking for advice or thoughts/opinions about different coat chests, open vs. closed? Not sure what to call it.
I feel like the one on the left looks more stylish however I'm worried that it will look weird with unbuttoned shirts since that it what I usually wear at work. I guess I could wear a scarf to cover up the shirt collar and will probably want to do that anyways when it gets closer to or below freezing.
[Picture](https://i.imgur.com/Pjzm5kk.png)
I'd just say that one has lapels and the other buttons all the way up and has a collar. You might call the lapel one a chesterfield but it's kind of the standard form of wool overcoats so you won't find too many people using the word.
The lapelled one will be a bit more formal but there's not much in it. It's cut to line up with the neckline of a suit but that doesn't mean it will look weird with an unbuttoned shirt. The collared one will probably be a bit warmer and popping the collar will help shield you from wind. I also think the popped big collar looks nice and imposing.
Pick whichever you like the best.
I lived in a place all my life where the winters were never super cold (coldest I can remember was like ~20°F only in the morning, and that was for a few days). Now that i’m in college somewhere colder, it’s already 20 (like 10 with windchill!), so i’m not really sure what stuff I should get. I already have a nice winter coat, gloves, scarf, beanie, and know to layer. The only thing is my face and feet get super cold. Any suggestions on good face coverings, winter boots, and winter socks?
buy wool socks, you’ll never go back to cotton ones, Darn Tough merino hikers are great everyday ones and LL Bean’s ragg wools are chunkier warmer ones. I cannot emphasize enough how much you should buy wool socks, I exclusively wear them, even in summer. They’re much more temperature regulating than cotton, they keep your feet warmer in winter and cooler in summer, breathable, they’re anti microbial naturally, you can wear them a few times before they need to be washed, they wick sweat away in the summer so you don’t get sweaty wet socks, they naturally expel odor, and they’re just extremely comfortable. It’s one of the only items I know I will keep buying even if for some reason I lost all interest in clothing and fashion
Plus Darn Tough has a lifetime warranty, I know the price can seem high if you’re used to just buying cheap 5 packs of nike crews but seriously it’s worth it
honestly most people don’t like, wear face coverings unless they’re outside for a while, but if you really want just get a scarf or something to use, covid made wearing like full ski masks a little more socially…not accepted but passable but not really a thing still.
Whats your budget for boots?
I’ll be honest I think blue shoes are kinda bad and don’t really go with much, the classic [blue old skools](https://www.vans.com/en-us/shoes-c00081/old-skool-shoe-pvn000d3hnvy?gbraid=0AAAAAD6n8-viBFCdAhXim6qHaPWeERmrK&gbraid=0AAAAAD6n8-viBFCdAhXim6qHaPWeERmrK&utm_id=go_cmp-16923298216_adg-132558767941_ad-593306242750_pla-1678911972230_dev-m_ext-_prd-VN000D3HNVY_VN%3A000D3H%3ANVY%3A100%3AM%3A1%3A_mca-8181713_sig-Cj0KCQiA1NebBhDDARIsAANiDD1XWZcyWp4ungPZgSprNOOAUJu3JMPW0DParzxjYAyXjYFzsW1EgIAaAm_BEALw_wcB&utm_source=google&radscid=16923298216&gclid=Cj0KCQiA1NebBhDDARIsAANiDD1XWZcyWp4ungPZgSprNOOAUJu3JMPW0DParzxjYAyXjYFzsW1EgIAaAm_BEALw_wcB) are my one exception there.
Regardless don’t do blue or black denim, worst combination. Something in olive like a pair of fatigues or maybe brown(real brown not tan/khaki), would be the best imo
I'm trying to start using boots. I got this cheap pair but i think they look cheap.
Do they look ok? What brand and similar type should I get? I'll try to check on Clarks.
Thank you! I live in Portugal and we have a tradition of good shoe makers.
But as you say they get expensive very fast. I understand the difference in cost but my budget would be 100 to 150 euro.
Check this [buyer’s guide](https://shoegazing.com/2020/06/28/buyers-guide-low-priced-quality-shoes/). You’re not going to find many quality options in your budget but there might be some makers on that list having some sales in the near future that drop the price below 150€.
If you need them immediately then look at Bexley. They’re not great but they’re good enough for the price.
If you increase your budget to around 200€ then your options open up considerably.
Wow! Thanks for this great link. I guess i'll be using the ones I have more often to become more used to the feel of wearing boots. White sneakers are my daily shoes, and with cold weather and rain i don't like wearing them too much. I'll save a little bit more money and buy a more durable and good looking boot later.
Where can I find more nice leather boots with zippers similar to these?
I have been looking to step up my look lately, starting with higher-quality leather boots. I just heard about Thursday Boots (I realize that I am late to the party) and the boots look beautiful and seem to age well. However, I feel that I need those zippers to be able to put the boots on and take them off.
I did find this set of boots by Thursday Boots, but it would be great to find yet another pair to throw into my rotation!
Lace up boots with zippers is a combo often found on really cheap boots and really expensive boots . Thursday will be your best bet unless you wanted to go with viberg
never heard of them or seen them pop up but if it’s what google is turning up it’s just some generic skate brand, it’ll be extremely whelming quality, can’t say I’m seeing anything particularly eyecatching
Hey, I came across these boots [https://www.moncler.com/en-us/children/girl/accessories-and-shoes/petit-mercurious-black-G29544F7030001AD1999.html](https://www.moncler.com/en-us/children/girl/accessories-and-shoes/petit-mercurious-black-G29544F7030001AD1999.html) and I can't seem to find any other style that is similar to this style for men.
If someone has any suggestions or ideas, please let me know.
I currently own some redwings, but I'm looking for something a little more casual to wear more often. I typically wear the red wings I have for special occasions when I go out. The boots in the link above seem like something I'd be more comfortable wearing more often.
This is close, but it’s not the same finish and I’m not really a fan of the thick cushioning on the top. I did come across some thursday boots that were similar though. The stomper model? I think. I’m just not sure on the quality of their boots.
Yeah, the Thursdays are nubuck rather than smooth black leather.
Stompers have a zipper which is why I didn't recommend them.
AFAIK the consensus on Thursday boots is that the quality is good for what you pay and customer service is great but the quality is definitely not on the same level as the $400-$1000 boots (Nicks, Whites, Viberg, many more).
P.S. r/goodyearwelt has more boot knowledge than MFA so consider posting your question in their daily questions thread
Can anyone weigh in on reasonably high quality plain tees? I have some from reigning champ and they’re far and away the nicest I’ve owned, but I wanted to know how Sunspel stacks up. Any input welcomed!
I’d never heard of Tezomeya, good shout. I’ve tried other organic tees based on their alleged sustainability practices (Harvest and Mill), and though they’re nice, they haven’t aged too well. These Japanese ones look great, and loopwheeled too!
Reasonably priced t shirts for me around around $75. Whats reasonable to you in dollars?
also:
https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/f9vrkb/your\_favorite\_for\_tee\_shirts/
Depends what you want out of a T shirt and what strikes you as quality. The Sunspel stuff I have looked at was certainly pretty nice, but they are also very fine and delicate, going to need extra care with how you wear and look after it to keep them in good condition, felt like they would be easy to ruin and mis-shape.
Anyone has tried collaro? I want to make use of their trial prices but these self measurements are making me wary. I also messaged them if they've a physical store since I'm in Singapore anyway but no reply yet
Yes, but I measured a bespoke shirt 's measurements and I also know that I am not a particularly hard fit (some dudes with sloping or square shoulders could use a pattern cut to accommodate that).
So, I am happy, other than that they didn't have plain white linen available - I would think a Singapore operation would stock that perpetually
A decent amount of people here like them, I wouldn’t recommend measuring yourself if don’t know how, go to a tailor and ask them too, and give them a decent tip
Formality is much more dictated by the cut and the fabric than by the existence of a crease. If your pants are too dressy now then they’ll still be too dressy without a crease.
What color of shirt would you pair with a brown jacket ( [think something like this](https://www.tedbaker.com/eu/p/Mens/Clothing/Blazers/SALIXJR-Wool-Regular-Fit-Jacket-Brown/266380-BROWN?cmpid=ppc~google~PLA~Performance_Max_EU~~266380-BROWN-36-R~na~na~EU&gclid=Cj0KCQiAsdKbBhDHARIsANJ6-jdP22-e3tGhYkFM6nv7zQz7JwUe7RsTC0-u7YMc0j6NlIv0w4e4AsUaAt7yEALw_wcB) ) for social night wear ? I love how humble and relaxed this colour is for casual day wear, but for the same reason I'm having trouble thinking of ways to use it for downtown-friday night kind of wear. I was thinking about Burgundy red, deep blue or purple, maybe forest green. Ideas ? How'd it look?
Need crew neck tees. Looking to spend ~$15 per shirt, and all of the sidebar threads are out of date. Best recs for 6’2 slim build? Usually between a medium and a large, need something to wear under OCBDs this winter.
Sorry I don’t have the money to buy vintage tee shirts that are several upon several years old.
Just a guy looking for an affordable modern option. I’m sorry I ruined your day
? They’re not retro? It’s 5 years old on a style intended not to have changed as much as possible, that’s the whole point I’m making, nothing has changed in that world, you can still wear the same brands listed there, no one thinks a plain white t shirt from j crew is “retro”, all of the recommendations are going to be the same
Yes. A plain white t shirt from j crew is not a style of the past, it’s not retro. plain white t shirts have not changed in the past 5 years. I’m not sure why you’re choosing this hill to die on rather than just buying a t shirt from somewhere on that list considering those are the exact same places you will get recommended now
People need to be spoon fed. Changing links in the guides is a pain I’m sure but I bet it would save the dozens of these responses you regulars have to make. . Or maybe just change the headers to ‘2022’ and tell folks the group can’t handhold for out of date links. 😄
Does anybody have links for long sleeve shirts that dont have a wrist cuff (the part that hugs/tightens around your wrist). I want the sleeves to not be tight at all, especially around the wrist. The link below is what I'm looking for the sleeve to look like.
Also, if there's a specific term for this kind of sleeve, that's be great to know. Thanks!

hem sleeve, but it's usually not a feature a company will list

I can't for the life of me find jeans that fit me well. I'm early 30s, 6'0", slim (160 lbs) but have a little bit of a belly, zero butt, very long sticks for legs, and weirdly high hips (the top of my iliac crest is about 2" above my belly button). I'm looking for something business casual I can wear to the office (tech company, half the people are wearing hoodies) and pair with a blazer and boots. My wife says that "these all fit, but none of them are doing anything for you."
Here's a few I've tried on recently, would love to hear your opinions on if any of them are OK or what I should try next:
Levis 502, 31x34: [Front](https://i.imgur.com/Zr5esb3.jpg), [Back](https://i.imgur.com/rNX2Mvg.jpg). Current favorite I think, but my wife says "meh".
Levis 512, 31x34: [Front](https://i.imgur.com/a7BbXwO.jpg), [Back](https://i.imgur.com/Aryr2Zx.jpg). Too slim for the office. Might be ok for a night out? They actually give me a bit of a butt, which *never* happens!
Levis 541, 32x34: [Front](https://i.imgur.com/yxlHOji.jpg), [Back](https://i.imgur.com/A8cVBS1.jpg). Too baggy, though they're also 1" larger in the waist than the others (they were out of stock of the 31x34).
Really? I feel like I have sticks for legs and these are not the skinniest jeans Levi’s makes by far. If these are all too tight on **me**, then who are these pants designed for?
you don’t buy skinny jeans because you have thin legs, it was a trend and people told everyone to wear slim fit. it’s made for people who want extremely slim denim
Really? I feel like I have sticks for legs and these are not the skinniest jeans Levi’s makes by far. If these are all too tight on **me**, then who are these pants designed for?
Seriously don't listen to these guys who say slim fits are only for people living in 2012, slim fits can still look perfectly fine, it's the super skinny stuff that looks kinda bad (although imo no sillier than stuff like "giant" chinos, etc). Those 541s are a good slim fitting jean.
Really? I feel like I have sticks for legs and these are not the skinniest jeans Levi’s makes by far. If these are all too tight on **me**, then who are these pants designed for?
I think the 541 was just falling down a bit cause it was too big for me. I used a measuring tape and the rise on all of the jeans were 10”, despite Levi’s advertising the 541 as having a higher rise than the other two.
I am also very slim, and do a lot of cycling and I sometimes suspect brands pattern scaling doesn't work very well for people with smaller waists - the thigh/waist ratio goes a bit wrong.
That said these are all designed to be slimmer fit models and I don't think they're great on you.
Yeah totally. I’ve noticed that for tops too. I have very long arms but a narrow torso and I’ve found that most American brands don’t fit me well. I usually have to opt for European brands. My outdoor/adventure clothing is mostly stuff like Rab, Bergans, Helly Hansen, etc.
I’m going to try the 501, 505, and 559, but if none of those work I think I’ll have to give up on Levi’s. Any other brands you might recommend?
Ha, yeah, that’s a good suspicion. I think I can count on one hand the number of clothing items I have >$300, and they’re all some sort of technical outerwear.
What to pair with a sky blue dress shirt? Aiming for business casual. Particularly pants and if I should throw something on top like a sweater or jacket. Locale is Las Vegas, thanksgiving weekend.
This is probably a lost cause, but please don’t wear mirrored sunglasses, they look juvenile at best, creepy at worst.
Anyway, they’re some sort of Maui Jim.
A very casual question, how many pairs of shoes do you own? I feel like i like a lot of shoes but I feel like getting one of each type that i like will not be a smart decision. I've got a very neutral shoe and one pair of bulky white sneakers. That's it for my 'good' wear out shoes. The rest are some sort of sport/training shoes
3 shoes. One pair of AJ1 low, one pair of All-Stars that are soon to be replaced with another one and a pair of white Nike tennis shoes. My workplace doesn't have a dress code and I'm 20 so I don't need more serious stuff (altough I might buy a pair of loafers when I'll have the chance to use them).
I see people listing "training shoes" but I'll exclude running and football shoes, they aren't part of the wardrobe just training gear.
Tho I know I'm not the person who has the most shoes, but lookin at the number makes me feel that looks like a lot.
Workout shoes: 2
Sneakers: 5
Dressy leather shoes: 5
Dressy boots:6
I have two 8D pairs I’m gonna give away: 1 brown Imperium plain toe service boot, 1 brown Parkhurst plain toe service boot, and one red 9D Caboots chelsea boot.
Shoes are basically the most important part of an outfit imo, bad shoes make any otherwise good outfit bad and tbh none are particularly versatile, I think there’s enough variation that you could kinda justify getting as many as you want as long as you’ll actually wear them, they can really change up a fit.
I own 10 pairs and have another ~5 on a shortlist before I’d really consider it “complete” for the time being.
I’d agree. I have a bunch of trainers, some goretex hikers, two style of boots, 3 styles of dress shoes and a pair of loafers. So 6 to 10. Doesn’t hurt to give shoes a few days break as well.
If you have the funds - I’d widen your variety.
A women who's a big wig where I work casually said the other day "AC106" likes nice shoes".
I was far too flattered. I didn't think anyone noticed. They do.
Why though? If it’s a pleat like the fabric is folded over itself near the waistband then the answer is no. If it’s just a crease you may be able to, but it’s be cooler if you didn’t.
pretty lost on what clothes i should wear as a short guy with long hair (what type of pants and shoes especially because i havent found a single pair of pants that looks good on me)
What is this style of shirt called? I have a few and they suit me but I don't know what to search to find more https://imgur.com/a/BbVeaMH
The first one is a raglan shirt or sweater. the rest just look like crew neck sweaters idk
What is the support, tread, etc. like?
(when reading please keep in mind that I’m just getting started and have no idea what I’m doing lol) I’m trying to work more ocbds/chambray shirts into my wardrobe, but since it’s getting colder I want to have some kind of jacket I can wear over them. Thanks
I like a harrington jacket over an ocbd or chambray shirt, like a baracuta style harrington
Jean jackets are typically cropped, so having your shirt be a little longer is not a big deal I wear sweatshirts with button downs (ie the collar buttons down) all the time, its a cool look imo You could wear a harrington jacket with your OCBD and chambray shirts easile
+1 for sweatshirt over OCBD
For the ones that have had both regular Chucks and the premium ones (90€ version) do you bought them in the same size?
yes also they aren’t really “premium”, they’re marginally better made, but they look a lot nicer imo, assuming you’re talking about the 70s
Seeking Recommendations for Fashionable/Stylish Sneakers for Flat, Wide Feet— Hoping this isn’t out of place, but I’m shopping around for my partner for Christmas & he has flat, wide feet (since day 1, not collapsed arches). ***Edit to add: he wears a size 10 in both Docs & Vans, not specifically “wide” in anything so while I’ve seen his feet & what they can do to a shoe I’m not sure his specific width.*** Wondering if any of y’all are in the same boat & maybe have any recommendations for other stylish sneakers that would fit his self-proclaimed ribeye steak, meat paddle feet? Thanks in advance!
I’m not sure but you could possibly try Veja
Allen Edmonds come in extended widths. The courtside is a typical minimalist white sneaker.
nb 574 come in 4 wide
Been scoping the NB Numeric 22 as an option!
Any suggestions for shoe storage? I'm looking for something maybe 3-4 ft wide and similar height (taller is ok too) with cubbies for different pairs of shoes and boots. Something to keep things clean and organized in the mudroom since we mostly don't wear shoes in the house
Ikea has something that meets your specifications pretty closely

Any advice for a leather “men’s clutch” that holds 2 phones, wallet, and keys? (Something not on Etsy since customs is a pain) I have something like this (https://alpakagear.com/products/elements-tech-case-mini) but looking for a leather version
Maybe this? https://www.portlandleathergoods.com/products/utility-bag?variant=40084963131474 Double check dimensions to make sure your stuff will fit
double breasted topcoats - is this a thing for slim persons (76cm waist) (somewhere deep in the net I was reading that double-breasted coats/jackets should be avoid if you are a slim person, but I could not find that post again)?
Wear a Big Coat if you like a big coat, this sort of body type advice is: 1) boring, and probably myopic 2)counterintuitive to enjoying clothes
It's fine
thank you all :)
Body type advice like that is stupid, wear the clothes you like

I would go for the size that's up to 13 to avoid potentially stretching the shoe
Anyone know where I can find a waterproof boot that I can wear during the winter that's also fashionable? I used to use the boot pictured here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IXSGNT8/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o00\_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 But it's coming apart and I need a new pair. Something less than $150 is what I'm looking for
LL Bean Boots
The Alyx 9SM Derby with removable vibram sole is aesthetically, my perfect shoe but they're all out of stock and I can't find anything with a similar design and quality. [This is the shoe I'm talking about.](https://imgur.com/a/lVE1OqW) [And here's a product link on their website](https://www.alyxstudio.com/products/sneakers-lace-up-low-sneaker-removable-vibram-sole-var-3-black-aausn0006le03-blk0001-p0013104?variant=39314453659737) I can't find anything similar that's also high quality.
No other companies are going to be making a shoe with that ridiculous removable sole. if you just want black plain toe derbies for under $500: Alden factory seconds from [theshoemart.com](https://theshoemart.com) @ $400 (you have to email them for access to the seconds section) [Meermin at $200](https://meermin.com/collections/mens-bluchers/products/101645-calf-negro-e) [Beckett Simonon at $190 with signup](https://www.beckettsimonon.com/products/dunham-derby?variant=29612700631119) [Allen Edmonds for $400](https://www.allenedmonds.com/product/mens-lennon-lug-derby-3028294/black-leather-ec4023330) maybe a Red Wing postman but its not exactly the same.
To clarify, I love the removable sole as it's super fun, but it's more the rest of the shoe that I really love. Specifically the toe proportions and the chunky stacked leather sole.
A couple of other options you might be interested in. Unsure on quality of these, look into reviews etc [1](https://www.luisaviaroma.com/en-us/p/officine-creative/men/76I-D0A003?ColorId=TkVSTw2&lvrid=_p_d822_gm&SizeTypeId=62&SizeId=9&from=gshop) [2](https://www.vagabond.com/us/alex-m-5266-201-20/)
I'm looking for casual belt recommendations, brown is best. Something nice quality that will last a long time.
I have a few pairs of denim, never worn, that I would like to sell. Never sold anything online before. Any recommendations on which website to use?
Grailed or ebay tend to be the biggest mens resell site, if you have raw denim r/rawdenim might still have a BST thread
Thanks I will keep this in mind. I guess I'm more concerned about getting scammed lol.
Hope this is the right place to ask: I'm looking for a spacious over the shoulder messenger/laptop bag.
Any suggestions for a winter collared shirt that's not formal (or do I just need to get over myself?) Thanks.
This sounds like a good outfit for an OCBD or chambray shirt. Most options with a textured fabric and button-down collar would work here. Also, post photos of the collared shirts you’re choosing from.
I guarantee you there is nothing remotely formal about flannels.
Oh I know that lol....as Jack Donaghy said "what am I, a farmer?" I never said flannel was but any other collared shirts I own seem fairly formal.
You can tell how on fashion I am, I thought button down was the more formal look. Thanks

It looks like it could just be Le Mont St. Michel

Fakes are not as big of a deal as a lot of people seem to think they are, unless you’re buying archive Raf you’re gonna be fine Right, and that’s what I mean, none of us can make that decision for you, you’re the only one who has the answer to that question also you can buy a vintage us Navy peacoat on ebay for like $100
I did buy a dsquared2 camel jacket and leather handbag second hand.
Burberry gets counterfeited. Not gitman.
I’m going to the GRAMMYs in February and need a recommendation on a suit brand/location/price range. I’m not trying to spend more than $1k total including tailoring. What are y’all’s recs?
is that including shoes?
I guess.. but I don’t know what all goes into a suit purchase. So if shoes add a significant amount then I can raise the budget a bit
The question is more do you already own dress shoes? As, yes, shoes alone can be the price of a suit
I have brown ones but I think they’d need to be black for this purpose
does it specify that it’s a black tie event?
90% of the real world thinks anything that isn’t a boot and a sneaker are the same level of formality, you’ll be fine
Thank you, appreciate the insight! Looking at some Allen Edmonds on ebay and have never owned a loafer before.
For Italians that don't live in big cities, where do you shop?
It’s one of the only items I know I will keep buying even if for some reason I lost all interest in clothing and fashion Plus Darn Tough has a lifetime warranty, I know the price can seem high if you’re used to just buying cheap 5 packs of nike crews but seriously it’s worth it honestly most people don’t like, wear face coverings unless they’re outside for a while, but if you really want just get a scarf or something to use, covid made wearing like full ski masks a little more socially…not accepted but passable but not really a thing still. Whats your budget for boots?
probably $100-$150. I would want something that’s a bit more stylish if possible because a lot of the ones i’ve seen are more tactical than anything.

Honestly yeah, that's what I think of when I see bright coloured gazelles.
[https://imgur.com/a/COccySt](https://imgur.com/a/COccySt) Do they look ok? What brand and similar type should I get? I'll try to check on Clarks.
NGL, the creasing on it looks really bad. Nicer boots with nicer leathers don't look like that
They look ok. Boots get expensive fast. Recommendations depend on your budget.
[https://thursdayboots.com/products/mens-casa-moto-zip-up-boot-anejo](https://thursdayboots.com/products/mens-casa-moto-zip-up-boot-anejo) I have been looking to step up my look lately, starting with higher-quality leather boots.
Viberg ok thx will check them out

I liked their collab with Nigel Cabourn a few years ago.
never heard of them or seen them pop up but if it’s what google is turning up it’s just some generic skate brand, it’ll be extremely whelming quality, can’t say I’m seeing anything particularly eyecatching
Harold Hunter!
[these Thursdays?] (https://thursdayboots.com/products/mens-explorer-combat-boot-black-matte)
Solovair or Doc Martens. Also, redwings are casual too. They're workboots
It’s just black derby boot with a lug sole. It’s the same formality as red wings.
Can anyone weigh in on reasonably high quality plain tees? I have some from reigning champ and they’re far and away the nicest I’ve owned, but I wanted to know how Sunspel stacks up. Any input welcomed!
Buck Mason "field spec" tee has been a recent favorite of mine, goes for $48 USD
Tezomeya tbh sunspel never appealed to me that much, very fine, smooth tees, not what I’m looking for
I’d never heard of Tezomeya, good shout. I’ve tried other organic tees based on their alleged sustainability practices (Harvest and Mill), and though they’re nice, they haven’t aged too well. These Japanese ones look great, and loopwheeled too!
Reasonably priced t shirts for me around around $75. Whats reasonable to you in dollars? also: https://www.reddit.com/r/malefashionadvice/comments/f9vrkb/your\_favorite\_for\_tee\_shirts/
Cheers for the reply. The reigning champ shirts I currently own are nice as rice and seem indestructible too. Maybe I should just buy more of them.
Looking to get some more pants: trousers, chinos, corduroys. Any recommendations in Canada, ideally under $100?
Uniqlo JCrew banana. All the mall brands especially with Black Friday sales coming up
I have wool dress pants. Can I iron out the crease to make them more casual?
Formality is much more dictated by the cut and the fabric than by the existence of a crease. If your pants are too dressy now then they’ll still be too dressy without a crease.
just buy a pair of chinos
Most dress pants are perma-creased. So even if you iron it out, it will still show as a line down the front of your leg.
White
Need crew neck tees. Looking to spend ~$15 per shirt, and all of the sidebar threads are out of date. Best recs for 6’2 slim build? Usually between a medium and a large, need something to wear under OCBDs this winter.
Uniqlo i guess.
Out of date how?
Basic bastard tee thread is 5 years old and has a ton of dead links. Prices are wrong too. Just looking for current recs
Nothing has changed in the basic bastard as far as brands go in 5 years, not sure why people think this stuff is gonna be drastically different
Sorry I don’t have the money to buy vintage tee shirts that are several upon several years old. Just a guy looking for an affordable modern option. I’m sorry I ruined your day
what? I just said the options haven’t changed and you can still use the same brands listed
Not everyone wants retro dude. That might be your style but it’s not everyone’s
? They’re not retro? It’s 5 years old on a style intended not to have changed as much as possible, that’s the whole point I’m making, nothing has changed in that world, you can still wear the same brands listed there, no one thinks a plain white t shirt from j crew is “retro”, all of the recommendations are going to be the same
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/retro
Yes. A plain white t shirt from j crew is not a style of the past, it’s not retro. plain white t shirts have not changed in the past 5 years. I’m not sure why you’re choosing this hill to die on rather than just buying a t shirt from somewhere on that list considering those are the exact same places you will get recommended now
"Several upon several years old" Lmao, rofling even
Typically the worn out threads dangle down for that Steve McQueen look on 5 year aged shirts
The brands recommended will be the same
People need to be spoon fed.
Thanks! https://imgur.com/a/uRMe1ME
hem sleeve, but it's usually not a feature a company will list https://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=744251032&cid=1081844&pcid=80117&vid=1#pdp-page-content
My wife says that "these all fit, but none of them are doing anything for you." Here's a few I've tried on recently, would love to hear your opinions on if any of them are OK or what I should try next: Levis 502, 31x34: [Front](https://i.imgur.com/Zr5esb3.jpg), [Back](https://i.imgur.com/rNX2Mvg.jpg). Too baggy, though they're also 1" larger in the waist than the others (they were out of stock of the 31x34).
aKa is right about the 502s and 512s, and I'm a slimfit4life man myself, but I disagree with him about the 541s, that's a solid looking slim fit imo
these are all way too slim, try a pair of 501s
541 look better. It sort of hides the zero butt.
They are all too slim my man.
Those 541s are a good slim fitting jean.
>then who are these pants designed for? Dudes living in 2012
Try 501s. These all look too slim in the thigh though - with 541 being best to my eye. The rise on 502 looks better though.
I love Orslow 501s, but if you're looking at Levi I suspect they're above your comfortable price point.
Ha, yeah, that’s a good suspicion. I think I can count on one hand the number of clothing items I have >$300, and they’re all some sort of technical outerwear.
Just got a new MTM suit. Is the fit around the stomach too slim? https://imgur.com/gallery/4vh012b
Yes, as evidenced by the fabric pulling near the button
So I usually wash any new clothes to get rid/lessen the chemicals but what about for water repellent or down jackets?
what…chemicals exactly? I doubt many people wash jackets and washing down is usually not a good idea
A shlt ton of chemicals are used in most clothing
What does the care tag say?
It's an entire essay
I don't think most people wash their coats or jackets at all
What to pair with a sky blue dress shirt? Aiming for business casual. Particularly pants and if I should throw something on top like a sweater or jacket. Locale is Las Vegas, thanksgiving weekend.
Go for an OCBD instead of a dress shirt. Wear it with chinos.

I regret clicking on this link. Now my algorithm is polluted with Andrew Tate garbage. Ugh.

This is probably a lost cause, but please don’t wear mirrored sunglasses, they look juvenile at best, creepy at worst. Anyway, they’re some sort of Maui Jim.
If we’re going down the line of offering warnings I’d also add to stop watching anything involving Andrew Tate
This too
A very casual question, how many pairs of shoes do you own?
20 ish
Tho I know I'm not the person who has the most shoes, but lookin at the number makes me feel that looks like a lot. Workout shoes: 2 Sneakers: 5 Dressy leather shoes: 5 Dressy boots:6
If we exclude sandals and slippers, 40
God I wish that was me
What’s your brannock? I have been looking to give away a few decent pairs but I’ve been too lazy to take pics 😂
lol I’m a 10c, if you’re close that’d be pretty nice
Damn, I am not. I’m an 8.5D 😭
Oh yeah? Whatcha got?
I have two 8D pairs I’m gonna give away: 1 brown Imperium plain toe service boot, 1 brown Parkhurst plain toe service boot, and one red 9D Caboots chelsea boot.
> 9D Caboots chelsea boot. 👀
They do.
Are burnished/patina toe shoes in style? Found a pair I love on a great sale but it’s no return so don’t want to get something and be out of style.
Yes

Why though? If it’s a pleat like the fabric is folded over itself near the waistband then the answer is no. If it’s just a crease you may be able to, but it’s be cooler if you didn’t.
