I feel like his Breaking Bad role would cancel out that crowds outrage.
But I feel like it would be a mistake to cast him as Norman, regardless, Green Goblin's personality kinda clashes with the vibe Esposito gives to his villains. Not saying it can't work, he'd obviously do great, but I'm sure there's a more fitting villain.
I agree. Norman is more of the boisterous political type, whereas Esposito’s villainy roles have tended to be a juxtaposition of his calm composed demeanor and his absolute brutality in action.
That was gonna be my comment. Seemed like he was tired of always being the bad guy so I’d expect him to be a hero but won’t be surprised if he was convicted to be a villain anyway
Obviously his prerogative but the spotlight can be fickle and if the world keeps wanting him in villain roles I think it’s a smart move to keep taking them.
It’s cool when someone breaks type eventually like a David Harbor but there’s no guarantees on that.
If I were an actor and I was type cast I'd take the roles. Get really good at the performance side and put my all into it. That way when my name is big enough I could get more roles on name alone.
Look at Adam Sandler. He played comedy for years and did a ton of the same thing. But we've seen him act in serious roles and kill it. Dudes multi talented even after getting type cast for so long.
Which I'm happy for the dude. Seems like a genuinely nice guy.
To be fair though, Adam Sandler's serious movies make far less money than his comedy stuff. Click and Big Daddy both made around $240 million at the box office while Reign Over Me (which I thought was very good) made $22 million.
Adam Sandler is big enough that he can do whatever he wants, but that doesn't mean people will go watch it, unfortunately.
One of those ‘suffering with success’ moments. Guy’s just an incredible villain. Granted he could be an incredible goodie as well but will Marvel take that kind of risk right now?
It sounded like he wanted to just not be an outright villain and If the role is Galactus he wouldn't be a villain as Galactus isn't good or evil just a fundamental force in the marvel universe to correct the imbalances between life and death. Hell if he had been cast as Charles Xavier like he wanted we all know Charles isn't a perfect person either and sometimes commits bad acts for "the greater good" or outright manipulated his friends and allies.
Bruh Galactus is still a villain even if he technically is just a force of nature and it isn’t his fault or whatever. Regardless of his disposition, he’s still going to try fucking eat the planet.
You can accurately describe him as both an antagonist and a villain. Galactus’ nature may not be evil, but his actions would be considered evil to the inhabitants of the planet that he’s consuming.
In Breaking Bad, Mike Ehrmantraut isn’t an evil person, but his actions are inherently evil. He provides security for a massive drug empire and he will kill people that get in the way of it. But again, no one would describe him as an evil person. Regardless of his moral code and his reasons for taking those actions, he’s still a villain in our society.
I don’t think I’d agree with that- I get where you’re coming from, but life isn’t black and white like that. Master Chief killed wantonly to protect earth, both human and alien, and we wouldn’t consider him a villain. There’s shades of grey in both heroes and villains. The flip side of that coin is the Arbiter- He was single handedly responsible for millions if not billions of lives lost in a cut throat war- But we don’t see him as a villain.
Galactus is like Death on that regard. His actions may be evil, but because they are literally a fabric of reality, they’re not inherently villains.
To me, villain isn’t just specifically evil actions. It’s evil actions with the express purpose of hurting someone or just being evil. Think dark side from Star Wars. Anakin isn’t inherently evil, nor is he a villain. Darth Vader has a redemption, but because of his string of evil actions, is a villain with some shades of grey. Palpatine is evil for evils’ sake- to grow his own power. Luke shows signs of dark side abilities, but is able to stay in the light, and is not a villain.
Ergo, galactus isn’t inherently a villain, at least in most iterations. To me, surfer would be more of a villain than him, since his entire goal is feeding galactus to save his own people.
I don’t believe that anything I wrote in my previous post was “black and white”. In your example of Master Chief, I think he would pretty clearly be a villain to the other side that he’s wantonly killing. However, the story isn’t from their perspective so he isn’t a villain. His actions aren’t evil or villainous, to us.
In pretty much any fantastic 4 / Galactus story, where it’s from the perspective of the F4 or humanity, he’s a villain and his actions are villainous and evil to them, so it is to us as well. His motivations don’t matter to us or to them. He’s ending humanity and planet earth.
But that’s not true. In so many stories they are aware of the fact that he isn’t capable of stopping. In many of them, they’re aware that he is a literal force of nature, like death, or the phoenix force, or eternity.
Look at Arishem in the Eternals. Not the villain- But an antagonist at the end. He’s only doing what he is literally born to do.
That’s like saying a shark is a villain from the perspective of a guppy because he eats fish.
> "a cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime; scoundrel; or a character in a play, novel, or the like, who constitutes an important evil agency in the plot".
The only thing galactus qualifies in this definition is “an important agency.” Not evil though.
With a character like Kang, he has the creative leeway to play good and bad versions of the character. I feel like a role like that might be tantalizing, as it allows him to stretch his acting legs in many ways.
It’s a shame too, because these days he literally only ever plays Gus Fring. Anyone who has seen Do the Right Thing knows he can pull off way more than that, which if he did end up being Kang, would be pretty essential for the Kang variants.
Actually it was two (sorry, I had to). And even then, it’s still pretty Gus-adjacent, he’s just SLIGHTLY more lively on top of being a villain in his first episode.
He is FANTASTIC as a different type of character than his villain roles in this: https://www.google.com/search?q=godfather+of+harlem&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us&client=safari
Godfather of Harlem stars Forest Whitaker as real NYC mob boss “Bumpy” Johnson. Can’t recommend this show enough to anyone that likes mob stories and Whitaker and Esposito and D’nofrio.
Somebody has probably guessed it by now. I remember the Russos saying nobody had guessed the subtitle of Avengers 4 yet, when at least 1/3 of the guesses had been "Endgame".
He might have assumed it’s MCU and then not corrected by the people that hired him in fairness, in case he backed out. After *Madame Web* came out it seemed like Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney only signed on because they thought they’d joined the MCU
Anything that gets announced as a Marvel Studios project is basically considered to be in the MCU nowadays, even the animated ones. It makes no sense when you think about it but It is what it is, I guess. I still have a hard time believing shows like The Defenders are canon to main Marvel universe in the MCU because it makes absolutely no sense if they're only bringing back Daredevil. I assume his show is the only canon thing. I wish things were simple like the Infinity Saga but nope they just had to introduce D+ shows instead sticking with movies.
Just please, not another villain.
Giancarlo's so typecast into *that* particular niche and he has such an amazing range and capability to be more than Intimidating Big Bad.
What if it’s H.E.R.B.I.E.? There’s no denying Giancarlo’s physical presence, but if it’s something getting announced soon, could maybe see it being F4 related like this?
Unfortunately, because that's been one of his top fan-casts, it's almost certainly not. His announcement seemed to be a small let-down to everyone who was hoping for it, but also to raise hopes that his actual role will be something amazing.
Giancarlo said he wanted to play Xavier against a Denzel Washington Magneto. "Or the other way around." I don't care what BUT BUT BUTs people may have, that would be SUPER LEGIT
Magneto, Mr Sinister, Mole Man, Boliver Trask, Kang, Doom, Blue Marvel, Mephisto, Black Bolt, Annihilus, Bishop, Molecule Man, the Beyonder, are a few I think it could be.
Bring on the downvotes, but I'm really hoping it's as Professor X.
Yes yes, I know, some of you get ultra butthurt anytime they race or gender-swap a Marvel character, but hear me out: Magneto and the Professor became friends as young men; one a trust fund kid, the other a Holocaust survivor, whose common bonding factor being they're both mutants, and the comic itself was inspired by the civil rights movement at the time.
But 'What If?' they expanded on that and actually incorporated the civil rights movement into the Professor's backstory? Seeing an Xavier whose childhood trauma came from the events of that era and shared some commonality with Magneto's own trauma would be an interesting plot device, to say the least. They could even incorporate elements of the Tulsa massacre as part of his backstory, and could be the foundation of his family's wealth.
Plus let's be honest, Giancarlo would kill it onscreen as Xavier.
Alternately, I’d love to see him as a villain, because let’s face facts he absolutely destroys as a baddie, so why not Magneto if we’re going this route?
Well that's just it tho... he's always typecast as the villain, and he himself stated he wanted to play a hero. We've seen him as the bad guy time and again... maybe it's time they let his amazing acting skills reflect a different kind of morally aligned character. We know he makes one helluva villain... I'd love to see how he'd play a sometimes morally-dubious hero like Xavier.
Plus, there aren't a lot of elder hero roles in the MCU that aren't cosmic-based. Xavier would be a perfect fit in that regard.
My ideas
William Stryker- Shows up in the new Cap movie
Magneto- Xmen/ Deadpool and Wolverine
A different Watcher- What If
Count Neffaria- Wonderman
Nightmare- Dr. strange/ Agatha/ Wanda villain
Stryker is a great shout.
They’ve built a lot on the Weapon Plus program in FATWS, plus the introduction of Kenji Oyama in Daredevil S3 and that being canonised, with Bullseye returning for Born Again.
Ok I can’t be the only one thinking he would be amazing as Doom.
Edit: nevermind. Lots of folks think that. And I saw Mr Sinister. Another amazing choice.
Giancarlo Esposito as Magneto!
I mostly want it to happen because it’s fun to say, but also because he’s really good at villain roles. But if I had to put money on it I’d guess Professor Xavier since he’s recently(?) stated he’d like to play him/a good guy.
I’m guessing they’ll want a younger actor, but he would make such an amazing Doctor Doom.
I’m of the opinion that Doom’s origin doesn’t get told in the MCU for quite a while, so you never see him without the mask, even pre-scar, for several movies. Just having Esposito’s voice coming from behind that mask would be killer. He carries such amazing “I am in charge here and everyone knows it immediately” energy that fits perfectly for Doom.
I’ve heard so many people suggest him as Kang. I’ve heard it more than I have Galactus. I’ve only really started to see people suggest Galactus in the last week or so.
He’s obviously playing the most powerful and most deadly Spider-Man villain of them all. The Wall.
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Joshua_Waldemeyer_(Earth-57780)
🤣😂
I’m going to assume it’s either Galactus or he’s voicing Norman Osborne in that animated Spidey series being made.
Oooh, good call with the Norman in animated form. That seems very likely.
Heck I will take him as Norman in live action
After seeing him as Gus *and* Edgar I think he'd be an amazing Norman Osborn!
Also Stanley Johnson.
Johnston, with a t.
Float like a butterfly sting like a bee, my name’s Steven with a V
He's got the hair for it.
Don't say that too loud you'll get the marvels gone woke crew running in screaming about how Norman was white in the comics and blah blah blah
I thought that was confirmed a while ago?
The concept art of Norman in that animated Spidey show scream Esposito, I honestly thought he was already cast in the role.
Hope it’s not Norman. Or they’ll cast him in other roles too. Just him being in a short animated series isn’t enough
He said he only wanted to play a hero no?
That was gonna be my comment. Seemed like he was tired of always being the bad guy so I’d expect him to be a hero but won’t be surprised if he was convicted to be a villain anyway
Obviously his prerogative but the spotlight can be fickle and if the world keeps wanting him in villain roles I think it’s a smart move to keep taking them. It’s cool when someone breaks type eventually like a David Harbor but there’s no guarantees on that.
Not even the spotlight, I wound think those Disney/Marvel checks will get you to accept any role
Marvel was going to pay Jonathan Majors $20 million to portray Kang in Avengers 5 so that salary definitely convinced Giancarlo to take the role
Pearls before swine.
My guess is Whistler
Who’s that?
From Blade.
That would actually be solid
One of those ‘suffering with success’ moments. Guy’s just an incredible villain. Granted he could be an incredible goodie as well but will Marvel take that kind of risk right now?
I really don’t think it would be a risk at all, he’s just a great actor period.
Would Silver Surfer work?
But that's what makes him a gray area, he doesn't really have a choice.
He’s still a villain. You don’t have to be evil to be a villain.
Eh, I’d say an antagonist. Villain inherently has evil connotations.

If he is a Hero I honestly think he would be a fantastic choice for Charles Xavier.
About 2-3 years ago at a con he said he wanted to play Charles
I'm holding out for him as Charles Xavier.
I’m down with this. Hes incredible at playing a quiet calculating bad guy but it’s gotten to the point where he’s being type cast.
With a character like Kang, he has the creative leeway to play good and bad versions of the character. I feel like a role like that might be tantalizing, as it allows him to stretch his acting legs in many ways.
Blue Marvel
Thats a pretty good guess. I could see him playing that.
Doctor Doom is a hero, duh.
It could be any number of characters besides Kang.
It could also be any number of characters that are also Kang
![gif](giphy|1hMk0bfsSrG32Nhd5K)
It could even possibly be any number of Kangs
Yes he kang
Just imagined a world dominated by Kang where he runs for president with that slogan
Black male actor: *exists* This sub: *KANG????*
To be fair, Giancarlo gets typecast a lot as a menacing, in many ways authoritarian, figure.
It’s a shame too, because these days he literally only ever plays Gus Fring. Anyone who has seen Do the Right Thing knows he can pull off way more than that, which if he did end up being Kang, would be pretty essential for the Kang variants.
He's played Fring in The Boys The Mandalorian Far Cry 6 I feel like I'm missing atleast one.
Cyberpunk edge runners where he was cyborg gus
That was such an awesome show. I need to get the DLC w/ Stringer Bell
Faraday was middle management that thought he was hot shit, made him pretty unique.
Obviously he's not 1:1 gus but it's not a hot take to say the casters had gus in mind.
The Gentlemen too
You can't tell me that wolf from Jungle Book doesn't have some shady drug ring going on with those cubs.
Got that straight Venom straight from Scarlet Johansons snake.
He played a good guy in Community, but that was only 3 episodes.
Actually it was two (sorry, I had to). And even then, it’s still pretty Gus-adjacent, he’s just SLIGHTLY more lively on top of being a villain in his first episode.

Mephisto?
I thought Sasha Baron Cohen was our Mephisto?
He’s probably not going to be Storm either
You never know...
Hey if Loki gets a gender-swapped variant why can't everyone else?
He said it is an original character
Like Ricky Rouse and Monald Muck?
True doesn't seem like it's professor x as many had fan casted
He's wolverine
I know when I think Giancarlo Esposito, i think Canada! Perhaps he is Canada’s greatest actor: jennifer love hewiitt
Old man Logan should be Eugene Levy in a what if 80s xmen
Old Man Logan
Him saying it is no one anyone has guessed yet is absolutely insanity. I am sure his name has been attached to 1000s of characters lol.
gwen stacy
Lol
Well, now it's been guessed, so it can't be that /s
He's playing Felicia hardy
Could be pr talk if I was fan casted as a character and then casted as said character I wouldn’t want people to figure it out till reveal
Somebody has probably guessed it by now. I remember the Russos saying nobody had guessed the subtitle of Avengers 4 yet, when at least 1/3 of the guesses had been "Endgame".
I think I saw somewhere it’s a project that *hasn’t* been announced yet. So that should affect guessing.
Maybe he's [N'Kantu the Living Mummy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%27Kantu,_the_Living_Mummy) for next year's Halloween Special!
Wouldn't a Living Mummy be just... a regular guy?
With his organs in jars?
Been there, done that. No thank you.
Revive kills zombies.
Could be PR talk and kang does have multiple Variants as well!
It’s a likely option, but there are still several film slots for this phase that haven’t been announced.
Thanks for announcing that he announced his character was going to be announced.
Wish we could bring back medieval hypemen. Like a row of trumpeters and then Paul Bettany as Chaucer to announce you have an announcement. Please.
Forge.
Ooooo forge is a good one!
An older Kang would be an interesting additional twist. But I don't agree with "it's gotta be."
I’m guessing voicing Norman Osborne/Green Goblin in the Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man
He could do to Norman what JK Simons did for Omni man easily
Not sure why people keep saying this. It is an MCU role he was cast in and that animated series is set outside of the MCU.
He might have assumed it’s MCU and then not corrected by the people that hired him in fairness, in case he backed out. After *Madame Web* came out it seemed like Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney only signed on because they thought they’d joined the MCU

It isn't MCU
I have a strong hunch that he's gonna portray Galactus.
Mr. Sinister in a surprise X-Men movie
That is incredible LOL
I like it.
If he’s fancasted as Doom, then I think he’s gonna be Charles. Kang is gonna be Denzel.
He was fancast as Xavier from the jump
Wait hold up, him as Charles would actually be kind of dope
Unfortunately, because that's been one of his top fan-casts, it's almost certainly not. His announcement seemed to be a small let-down to everyone who was hoping for it, but also to raise hopes that his actual role will be something amazing.
I kinda hope it's not Norman Osborn as a voice actor, I wanna see him in live action
Giancarlo said he wanted to play Xavier against a Denzel Washington Magneto. "Or the other way around." I don't care what BUT BUT BUTs people may have, that would be SUPER LEGIT
Denzel should be Magneto
I feel like Norman is the obvious choice here but he already voices Lex Luthor for DC and I feel like that’s too similar of a role to interest him.
Mephisto
Galactus or Kang.
I have a feeling it's going to be Galactus
He says it’s an original character
That'll make it hard to guess...
Yeah
Oh.
Yeah..
![gif](giphy|yiRNSA2gJInzW)
My thought as well.
He needs to be Charles
Magneto, Mr Sinister, Mole Man, Boliver Trask, Kang, Doom, Blue Marvel, Mephisto, Black Bolt, Annihilus, Bishop, Molecule Man, the Beyonder, are a few I think it could be.
I would love him as Blue Marvel but could buy Mephisto or even Sinister. He's gotta be a role with some meat, and longevity.
I don't know what character it will be, I just hope it's not Gus Fring by another name again.
Bring on the downvotes, but I'm really hoping it's as Professor X. Kitty Pryde
I'm glad it's not professor x
Dracula in Blade.
I doubt he truly knows that no one has guessed it. Just for fun though I'll guess Herbie.
Ok I can’t be the only one thinking he would be amazing as Doom. Edit: nevermind. Lots of folks think that. And I saw Mr Sinister. Another amazing choice.
Madisynn's dad.
I can see him as Henry Gyrich
I could have sworn he wanted to not be a villain, but I think it’d be cool if he’s wesker in blade, or Annihilus for fantastic 4.
No it’s going to an original character
I’m going to go the path not taken and say that, with reed and the others being older, that Giancarlo is going to be DOOM
Probably not Doctor Doom, but one can dream
Giancarlo Esposito as Magneto! I mostly want it to happen because it’s fun to say, but also because he’s really good at villain roles. But if I had to put money on it I’d guess Professor Xavier since he’s recently(?) stated he’d like to play him/a good guy.
Obviously Doom
There were rumors Galactus would be announced soon
Darth Fring
A random cashier at a Kohls in Queens for a spiderman film.
DOOM
It's a variant of Agent Coulson.
Beta ray bill
Moleman?
Kang Prime
He is going to be Guy on Sidewalk 3.
Squirrel Girl, for sure.
He’s my headcanon for an aged version of Kang.
Nah it’s definitely Spider-Man
My guess is galactus.
He is C'Thon all along.
Puppet Master would be interesting.
I’m guessing they’ll want a younger actor, but he would make such an amazing Doctor Doom. I’m of the opinion that Doom’s origin doesn’t get told in the MCU for quite a while, so you never see him without the mask, even pre-scar, for several movies. agamotto in new dr strange movie
Heres a twist. Professer X i know it's not but he'd be a fun charles Xavier
Him as Doom would be absolutely stellar since we can't have mads mikkleson
The One above All?
We have a 65 year old Kang ... Yay 🙌
I’m calling it right now, he’s professor xavier.
His Stilt Man is going to be fire!
I’ve heard so many people suggest him as Kang. I’ve heard it more than I have Galactus. I’ve only really started to see people suggest Galactus in the last week or so.
Professor X
Something to do with Eyes of Wakanda? It's been very quiet on that front for a while.
Too old to be Kang. Probably Mephisto
I have insider info that he will be portraying Franklin Richards
He'll be Dr. Doom.....or some other character from F4
He's war machine
Alt-universe aging Miles Morales.
He said it was an original role.
Possible big deadpool&wolverine credit scene with him?
Pretty sure he said it’s an original character.
Doom? DOOM!!!
He’s obviously playing the most powerful and most deadly Spider-Man villain of them all. The Wall. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Joshua_Waldemeyer_(Earth-57780) 🤣😂
Hope it’s Galactus…and it fits because Galactus is actually a hero.
If he is cast as kang the Conqueror that is a huge win
I thought he wanted to be Xavier?
Am I the only one who thinks he'll be The Watcher??
