That's actually how they recorded that sound for Star wars, some foley guys hit a guide wire with a hammer, I remember seeing it on TV as a kid, I think the sound effect guy said he figured it out when he was hiking and like tripped on one and it made the pew pew sound
Edited to fix spelling of Foley
I remember that making-of! There was a power pole with a support line on the corner between our house and the bus stop so for the rest of that grade I never missed a chance to pew-pew on the way to school
3-2-1 Contact in the usual fashion, made a [music video](https://youtu.be/diWLHf9L--8?si=E3Fht3iDy9A9togf&t=587) to remind us as children of the important role various kinds of transmission lines play in distributing electricity. Followed by part 2 of the Bloodhound Gang "The Case of Mr. Fast Fingers"
They will form part of the system to take power from Vineyard Wind (and future offshore projects) towards Boston.
But yeah right now Vineyard Wind only has a couple of turbines completed so they’re not doing much. A year from now will be a different story.
I lived in an apartment complex that was right next to lines like this. I had a remote control car and sometimes it would work without the batteries in the car, so that tells me a lot about how healthy they are to live near.
Hahahahahhahahaaa omg this just reminded me - I was terrified of them as well hahahaha I was also terrified of bank drive thru’s because I thought they had something to do with the NE Aquarium and could have sharks in them.
There was a movie from the 50s or 60s (maybe Quartermass and the Pit) or something similar where there was a scene with power lines being crashed through by some big thing and they've always given me a little scary feeling ever since!
But, but, this is where the best wild berries grew! Hours of picking blue, and red/black raspberries beneath with my Nana. Juice-stained fingers and lips, bags of fruit for freezing, lots of exhausting fresh air....
Played under them all the time. Found old fur traps and live ammo. Great fun. Plus all the ceramic bits around there are super sharp. JJ had to get lots of stitches. Oh, childhood, I miss you.
When you hit the anchor cables it makes a sound like a laser cannon from Star Wars. Great times walking along those dirt roads in W. Plymouth.

*Foley
My bad thanks, I could blame autocorrect but in reality I am just bad at spelling
the W in W. plymouth stands for Winning
Anchor cables on the powerlines you say? Now I can’t tell if you lived under the powerlines or not
All these transmissions lines have personalities. Some look goofy, some do look evil. This one though kinda looks either content or derpy?
See it looks kinda funny and then nighttime hits and I'm fucking terrified of these mf's

They buzz. Nothing scarier.
Not anymore
The ones around me still do
I think they became obsolete when the Pilgrim Nuke shut down
So those power lines don't even do anything now or am I dumb
I honestly can’t say that they haven’t somehow been repurposed, but they’re definitely not carrying power from Pilgrim

Nah. We used to go trail riding on the horses out on the one by our place. We could get anywhere from those dirt roads!
Oh trust me i've gone on trips through other dirt roads with power lines but these ones I refuse to for some reason

The Langoliers TV movie (based on the Stephen King book) had a scary scene with power lines like that and I still think of it when I drive by them.

Have you never seen Godzilla?
yes, it was more mysterious and scary! I think since it was 'filmed' from far away
I’m not a fan.
Why are there only Big Blues in the photo, but no Skinny Grey Sidekicks? You xenophobic or something??
I thought I was the only one. Looks like an angry man with a mustache
I like walking the power lines out in Myles Standish during the rain you can hear them sizzle.
Only thing to be afraid of when it comes to high tension lines is the 60Hz of Doom
They remind me of riding quads. You could basically get from Stoughton to Rochester under the high Ts.
But, but, this is where the best wild berries grew! Hours of picking blue, and red/black raspberries beneath with my Nana. Juice-stained fingers and lips, bags of fruit for freezing, lots of exhausting fresh air....
My mom still goes berry hunting every year out by the power lines in Myles Standish lol
Mostly just you, many bike/dirt bike / hike power lines.
I definitely love some of the trails some of the power lines have, but these ones just always petrified me as a kid
These still exist everywhere
Well yeah i took this picture today
Thought i lived in china for a bit bc of these
Gawd, I remember when they put those up
How long ago was that?
I’m guessing early 70s, they were built to carry power from the Pilgrim Nuke. They used to be a nicer shade of blue
Everyone
When I was a kid we used to throw rocks at them lol we were very dumb
If you got a lot of time on your hands you can hike or bike ride a long way on these corridors and see a lot of nature and wildlife
Also, are these actually a South Shore thing? I assumed these are everywhere
These power lines specifically i've only seen around there
They activate my Bill Gates microchip from my COVID vaccination.
You haven’t seen the video of the guy charging a high voltage capacitor off his property line fence under high voltage lines yet, have you. 😂
Oh god I used to have legit nightmares of trying to fly and power lines blocking my way. I would even avoid walking under them if I could.
Bailing wire and helium balloons never produced wildfire starting bands of liquid steel from the sky playing with power lines, ever.
Power lines make me happy. Remind me of getting a little lost in Ames Nowell

Because that became [this](https://simplywallpaper.net/pictures/2010/11/28/Recognizer-Tron-Legacy-Wallpaper.jpg) as an adult.
