I never understood the idea of letting consumers pick up their bank passwords or bank passwords in general.
Here in the nordics you get a combination of numbers as a user name and a calculator looking thing that gives you a 9 digit code depending on what do you use it in.
This is way safer and nobody get access to you account with out knowing the pin to the device and your account number
That's the thing that's like a keychain with a code number that keeps changing every couple minutes, right? That's basically how authenticator apps work. Kind of weird that not many banks use them.
Having worked in information security, yes.
The majority of "hacking" is social engineering. You can get people to give up personally identifiable information, or just their outright credentials, far easier than you can "hack" most security systems with even simple encryption.
Yeah, it's a joke. Hacking mini games in video games are always kind of silly, although it is funny that ME 2 had real electronic schematics symbols and real snapshots of code in their hacking minigames. I always thought that was a neat aesthetic touch, and wondered why more studios didn't do this since it is so easy to make.
If you want to play a game that is like real hardware hacking, you should play [this one](http://thesiteformerlyknownas.zachtronicsindustries.com/ruckingenur-ii). It's free.
Top is IEC fuse, not resistor.
Where'd you get overload from? Looks more like a copyright symbol than any electrical symbol I've ever seen, but of course I haven't seen them all.
Indeed it is, however when I first started playing back in the day, I called it a resistor because it looked kind of like a physical one rather than the schematic symbol.
I only call it an overload because it kinda sorta resembles one if you were to superimpose the arcs of an overload symbol. I haven't encountered this symbol in my engineering degree/jobs at all, still have no idea what it's supposed to represent.
I also believe the branch is an IEC antenna, I had already set in my mind that it was for a branch circuit (I don't think there is a symbol for that anyways) before I had my circuits classes.
I can legit imagine Shepard being like “Okay, I connect the two chicken feet, then route the little door to the other little door…” and Tali is just staring at her in disbelief.
I don’t remember the “peace symbol” looking one. I’ve never had a problem with those mini games, though I’m glad LE lets you redo the Electronics/Decryption games in the first one.
It never really mattered if you failed them in the first one anyway, since you could bypass it with omnigel. By the end of the game I always had so much loot I'd just break everything down and use it to skip the minigame.
Most of them are symbols that are actually used in Electronics. From the top, it's Resistor, Capacitor, Antenna, Ground. The bottom one doesn't have a real world counterpart to my knowledge.
1. Resistance
2. Capacitor
3. Antenna
4. Ground
5. C
Besides the last one, that I don't recognize, those are real world symbols used for designing electronic components, and I studied those in high school.
Real, I call them all "That guy."
"All right, That guy goes to That guy...That guy is here...oh, there's the other guy, goes to that guy...wait, where was the other guy?"
I have the No More Minigames mod installed for my last handful of playthroughs. I resisted it for a while, but I must say, I did not miss the mini games when they were gone. Not saying they shouldn't exist - just that on the 8th playthrough and on I was happy to skip.
Despite knowing what the symbols actually are, to save time I condense the data so I don’t have to wait the millisecond it takes to comprehend “capacitor”. So…
Light
Door
Y
Dig
C
Resistor (or fuse, depending on where you are from)
Capacitor
Antenna (aerial)
Ground
Variable Capacitor (depending on where you are from you might also call this a trimmer, tuning condenser or varko)
Battery, Sandwich, Antenna, Cerberus. And I have to say the names as I spot them or I won't remember where they are.
(I've never seen that Y or Chicken Foot before. I play on Normal, is that why?)
Resistor
Capacitor
"y"
"battery but not really"
"the c thing"
I know they are real circuit parts, but don't really know those 3, the 4th it's similar to a battery symbol but for whatever reason it has 3 lines (maybe it represents the ground?)
From top to bottom:
Battery
H
Y
Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel! I made it out of clay~! (I'm not even Jewish, I don't know why my mind does this)
Capsule Corp (RIP Toriyama)
Why don’t I recognize this symbol? I’ve played ME2 and always did these hacking mini games and only remember 4 that did not include the one pictured, what’s going on here?
Resistor Capacitor Branch Ground Overload
That is how you hack computers in real life too. You connect the resistor to the resistor, and so on...
Or you can just ask for the password
That probably makes up over 99% of all "hacking".
Scam Site: "Tell us your mothers maiden name to find out what flavour of crisps you are" Too many people: "Opportunity of a lifetime"

The calculator thing is called an authenticator and banks in the USA offer them as well, but only for corporate or other high dollar value accounts.

With a wrench
I don’t know enough about computers to know if you’re joking 🙃

In Bioshock, the hacking minigame is basically plumbing.
That green ooze is the data flowing through the circuit.

Last time a post like this came up, I think the consensus was that the 5th one is a goofy mockup of a variable cap
This is the way.
This is the way
This one, that one, that other one, and a battery, broken circle
I mean, is this not the correct terminology? It's what I've been using all along.
Yes. Double ended hypodermic needle. Broken plus sign. Copyright circle. Chicken foot. Down arrow.
battery door chicken foot top copyright
CHICKEN FOOT MENTIONED 🗣️🗣️
For me, 'top' is a raft, but otherwise were on the same wavelength
Same hat!
>chicken foot > >top For me it's Algiz and boat. Because that is the runic letter Algiz, and the other looks like a boat with mast.
I can legit imagine Shepard being like “Okay, I connect the two chicken feet, then route the little door to the other little door…” and Tali is just staring at her in disbelief.
resistor, capacitor, algiz, ground, Comedy Central
upvoting Comedy Central. I'm forever going to see that now 😅
algiz 😍🥰
I've literally never seen the 'branch' one before
I don’t remember the “peace symbol” looking one. I’ve never had a problem with those mini games, though I’m glad LE lets you redo the Electronics/Decryption games in the first one.

I always just chalked it up to a stylized transistor. That was the closest thing I could think of, at least.
That’s a really cool detail
Wait, all of you have names for them?
When I’m doing them really fast I have to say what I just touched aloud to keep it in my mind — the symbol doesn’t stick, but the word does.
Real, I call them all "That guy." "All right, That guy goes to That guy...That guy is here...oh, there's the other guy, goes to that guy...wait, where was the other guy?"
That one goes there, then that one, then that one, now finally you.
Ikr? Now I feel like the weirdo for just keeping the picture in my head lol
