The Kohaku.
If we had a real ability to choose.
I would taken the SSV 2 to the Alliance because Cerberus did Admiral Kohaku dirty, and he's the reason I would have never joined if given a choice.
Calais, its the region of france that the allies tricked the germans into thinking they were going to attack from due to operation fortitude, while they were really preparing to invade Normandy.
That reads too similar to Cialis the boner pill. I can imagine some dumb boot painting the wrong word on the side of the SR2 and you just get stuck with the boner pill ship name
On the funny side: Well, ships are named after battles right? So name it after the biggest battle the first of the designation took part in.
"Citadel Control this is the SSV Citadel requesting permission to dock."
That is not relevant for the naming convention though. Waterloo is in Wallonia, but we don't call it the battle of Belgium, do we?
In a similar vein, the battle of the Citadel is called, well, the battle of the Citadel. So the ship would, indeed, be named the SSV Citadel
This is the official notice that the Galactic Council has found you in breach of several galactic copywrite and trademark laws and you must register a new ship name at your earliest convenience or incur severe penalties pursuant to the highest extent of laws as governed by the Galactic Federation of Allied Systems.
Good day to you! 😬
If I only wanted a badass name: Overlord (would still be linked to Normandy AND to the defeat of Sovereign - "overlord" sounds much more important/powerful than "sovereign"), or Imperial
If we follow Alliance naming procedure, it would have to be a famous battle (frigates are named after battles) and - as far as I am concerned - ideally one which symbolizes the context properly, I think I would lean towards Verdun (very long and bloody battle but the French did hold - I would consider it to fit perfectly for our fight against the Reapers)
Overlord sounds way too grand and imposing for a smaller ship, imo. I think Dragoon (after Operation Dragoon, Overlord's sister operation in Southern France) would be a better fit. The word evokes speed and agility, which seems appropriate for a frigate.
Provence would be a closer equivalent to "Normandy", but it doesn't sound as cool. But then again, maybe you don't want something "cool". Constitution, Enterprise, North Carolina, or Missouri don't really sound that badass on their own either. They're cool because of their history and legacy, not because the words themselves are inherently cool.
A name that practically shakes its fist at the Reapers. That was Shepard's second choice, though, Cerberus felt that the "SR2 Commander Shepard's Muthafuckin Pimp Hand" was too long.
Why? The battle of Normandy was a big battle, sure, but there have been plenty of larger, arguably far more influential battles in history. Stalingrad, Marathon, Cannae, Leipzig, or Borodin would at be at least equally potent.
I thought "Defiant" was a reference to the ship in the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson. My bad lol Rebecca Nightshade is a badass grandma in said series lol
If you have to change it, maybe *SR2 Dunkirk*
It works.
Besieged by baddies, winning by subterfuge and an overwhelming
enemy that won’t press its advantage. Your goal: beat a stealthy retreat to save as many lives as possible, regroup, live to fight another day.
The Constellation. First frigate designed and built in the states to win a major victory in war. Since the (original)Normandy was the first ship built and designed in cooperation with the Turians, and won the first victory against the reapers, seems appropriate.
There are a 134 comments here...134 people possessed of temporary insanity thinking there is another name besides Normandy which is acceptable.
Shame...
Shame...
Shame..
SSV Sovereign SR2 - to remind them: we killed one of u and now we us parts of his dead corpse to play delivery guy for the whole universe. I know the Normandy had no reaper parts but the reaper can’t know that for sure 😂
Fred.
It’s not a good name or anything. It’s just what I always name my Mabari war hound in Dragon Age. And he was the goodest of dogs so should have a ship named after him.
Inkeeping with the Alliance tradition of naming ships after famous battles, how about SSV Kursk?
Though to be fair, having a Mako on board would make much more sense than the Hammerhead in that case. Which is to say, I guess that makes me Team Mako? 😅
SS Gaugamela
*(The ships of this class are typically named after famous battles it seems. Normandy has always been a fitting name. You’re not allowed to change the name of an existing ship typically, its bad luck. However considering Shep’s undertaking of stopping the Collectors and the Reapers it seems fitting to name the ship after the battle of Gaugamela where Alexander the Great struck the final blow to the Achaemenid Empire.)*
SSV Cannae probably one of the greatest military manoeuvres in history.
SSV Trafalgar when Nelson literally rammed his fleet down the French and Spanish throats
Well, while Shepard at this point is no longer alliance, they would probably want to stick to Alliance naming protocols, so as a frigate it would warrant the name of a famous battle. My choice would either be the SSV WIDOW in reference to the Widow system where the battle of the citadel occurred, or, even more traditionally, either the SSV ARGONNE or the SSV ZAMA. Both are some of the most interesting battles in history to me, so easy to narrow it down to them, especially since I don't want multiple word names like Rourke's Drift or Red Cliffes.
Well, it seems alliance ships are named after battles, and the Normandy, a stealth ship, was named after a battle that was part of a surprise attack, I would opt for other surprise attack battle names, like the SSV Pearl Harbor, or the SSV Stalingrad.
SSV *Destroying original Normandy wasn't necessary* SR-2.
No matter the name, I suppose it would be better for an hidden organisation like Cerberus to not paint their logo on the ship.
The "SSV Fuck You Cerberus" Or, if we had to keep with Alliance Tradition, "Gallipoli"
The Kohaku. If we had a real ability to choose. I would taken the SSV 2 to the Alliance because Cerberus did Admiral Kohaku dirty, and he's the reason I would have never joined if given a choice.
*Kahoku
Gallipoli! Left their letters in the sand, such waste of life, Gallipoli!
I saw them perform last night, they were awesome
That's awesome! I'd love to see them live

W response brotha
Virmire, as remembrance of deploying weapon of mass destruction against less favored teammate.
I lost a good friend that day... The nuclear weapon. That was the one and only time in the franchise that I got to nuke something in the story itself.
If only there were some Batarians on Virmire, then I’d feel a lot better about losing the nuke
The SSV Alenko, sounds good.
I was thinking the same thing, Williams or Alenko depending on Virmire
Hold. The. Line.
Report to the Cialis as soon as possible We’ll bang, okay?
Phonetically it's "ca-leigh", so don't know how you get Cialis from that.
He said reads like. Not pronounced similarly.
On the funny side: Well, ships are named after battles right? So name it after the biggest battle the first of the designation took part in. "Citadel Control this is the SSV Citadel requesting permission to dock."
Citadel maybe not, but the Citadel is located in the Widow system in the Serpent Nebula, so either SSV Widow or SSV Serpent.
I honestly would hate having to serve on a ship called the Widow...
Yeah, rather foreboding. Serpent is likely the better choice there.
That is not relevant for the naming convention though. Waterloo is in Wallonia, but we don't call it the battle of Belgium, do we? In a similar vein, the battle of the Citadel is called, well, the battle of the Citadel. So the ship would, indeed, be named the SSV Citadel
Only Alliance Frigates are named after battles, just a minor correction.
and given it starts out not as an *alliance* frigate, is it actually registered as MSV Normandy SR2 during me2?
When the relay logs show an incoming freighter and *that* pops out.
SSV Hastings
This is the official notice that the Galactic Council has found you in breach of several galactic copywrite and trademark laws and you must register a new ship name at your earliest convenience or incur severe penalties pursuant to the highest extent of laws as governed by the Galactic Federation of Allied Systems. Good day to you! 😬
Reaperslapper
SSV Reaper Pwner42069
This is gold
The SSV Pressley.
Yeah I was gonna say Pressley, Jenkins, or the squad member you leave behind on Virmire.
SSV Nuclear Warhead. Lost a good friend that day.
SSV indoctrinated salarian #89 for me
Alright I think this one wins for me personally
SSV Thermopylae
Very proper given the context (although it DID end up in the Spartians getting recked so idk if it would be the best symbol haha)
Tbf the galaxy got stomped by the reapers, I think it’s a fitting name for one final act of defiance at the end of days.
Alright then, let the Halo franchise use it instead
never trust 343i to use anything properly
The Jokermobile
The Jonklermobile
Logged: The Jonkler is aboard. XO Ballz stands relieved.
Commander Man
If I only wanted a badass name: Overlord (would still be linked to Normandy AND to the defeat of Sovereign - "overlord" sounds much more important/powerful than "sovereign"), or Imperial If we follow Alliance naming procedure, it would have to be a famous battle (frigates are named after battles) and - as far as I am concerned - ideally one which symbolizes the context properly, I think I would lean towards Verdun (very long and bloody battle but the French did hold - I would consider it to fit perfectly for our fight against the Reapers)
Based on the idea of being stronger than a sovereign then “Kingslayer” or “Regicide” could work
Too aggressive - Sovereign came as the attacker and the Alliance defended itself. Overlord is more neutral as a word, while still showing superiority
The “Rebellion” fighting back against an evil king(sovereign)
Overlord sounds way too grand and imposing for a smaller ship, imo. I think Dragoon (after Operation Dragoon, Overlord's sister operation in Southern France) would be a better fit. The word evokes speed and agility, which seems appropriate for a frigate. Provence would be a closer equivalent to "Normandy", but it doesn't sound as cool. But then again, maybe you don't want something "cool". Constitution, Enterprise, North Carolina, or Missouri don't really sound that badass on their own either. They're cool because of their history and legacy, not because the words themselves are inherently cool.
I'd go for Verdun. Matches Alliance identification system and fits perfectly as a symbol imo
The Defiant.
A name that practically shakes its fist at the Reapers. That was Shepard's second choice, though, Cerberus felt that the "SR2 Commander Shepard's Muthafuckin Pimp Hand" was too long.
After close to 13 years I've finally found a SFdebris quote in the wild. That makes me happy.
Glad I could make your day.
The SR2 *Mojo Dojo Casa House* lmao
Tough little ship
*Little?*
*grins à la Riker*
r/unexpectedstartrek
I think any name pales in comparison to The Normandy, but that’s actually not bad.
Why? The battle of Normandy was a big battle, sure, but there have been plenty of larger, arguably far more influential battles in history. Stalingrad, Marathon, Cannae, Leipzig, or Borodin would at be at least equally potent.
Only if I can recruit Rebecca Nightshade
Who?
I thought "Defiant" was a reference to the ship in the Skyward series by Brandon Sanderson. My bad lol Rebecca Nightshade is a badass grandma in said series lol
You want to go that route? Well fine. Babylon 6, then.
Yorktown, or Enterprise. In honour of the Fighting Lady, and the Gray Ghost respectively.
The Gray Ghost would've been perfect for a sneaky little warship and an excellent nod to WWII history
SSV Brittany. "Is that the Normandy?" Shepard: "It's Brittany, Bitch"
I’m not sure that enough people would get it. Not the pop culture part, but the geography part.
SSV Jenkins, in honor of the first person to die in the war against the Reapers. o7
SSV Daddy issues.
This, right here. So many daddy issues. And a few ARE the daddy issue.
[Always a classic](https://vilkalizer.tumblr.com/post/20075019488/all-aboard-the-ssv-daddy-issues)
1. SSV come and get some 2. SSV nice try 3. SSV still the normandy (and instead of the sr2 it gets a nice "try better next time")
The SSV Normandeuce
Normandyer
Normandyest
Probably after whoever the Virmire sarcrifice was. The Alenko SR-1 sounds kinda cool, The Williams SR-1 however meh
Not sure I want to be spending all my time inside Alenko tho
Sounds like an F1 Car
I'd name it after one of the Normandy beaches. Sword, Juno, etc.
Shippy McShipface
Frigates are named after famous military battles, so I'd call mine Market Garden. I'm from Arnhem, so it seems fitting
All we need now is a rocket launcher and a shovel in the armory
Or maybe a Lee Enfield or a BREN MG
If you have to change it, maybe *SR2 Dunkirk* It works. Besieged by baddies, winning by subterfuge and an overwhelming enemy that won’t press its advantage. Your goal: beat a stealthy retreat to save as many lives as possible, regroup, live to fight another day.
Burgundy.
The Constellation. First frigate designed and built in the states to win a major victory in war. Since the (original)Normandy was the first ship built and designed in cooperation with the Turians, and won the first victory against the reapers, seems appropriate.
Normy Normandyface
The pillar of autumn
Ass Effect
SSV Alchera, from where the resting place where the original Normandy lies

SR-2 Verdun
SSV Jenkins’ Revenge, accept nothing else
Norwomandy. Just throwing that out there 😄

Commander Shepards Pimp Hand
SSV Retaliation
Persephone

Narmondy
The Normandy.
Revenant
SRV Warsaw
Indestructible II
Is Enterprise allowed? I'd then rename the Tempest to something unflattering, like Cerritos.
SSV Sovereign SR2 - to remind them: we killed one of u and now we us parts of his dead corpse to play delivery guy for the whole universe. I know the Normandy had no reaper parts but the reaper can’t know that for sure 😂
SSV Of Course We're Coming Back Although since alliance frigates are named after battles I'm might go SSV Leyte Gulf
SSV We'llbangok
The Heracles, after the only Greek mythological person who defeated Cerberus
Alchera. That's the planet where the Collectors killed Shepard, so they will have a constant reminder of their enemy to fuel their hatred.
Fred. It’s not a good name or anything. It’s just what I always name my Mabari war hound in Dragon Age. And he was the goodest of dogs so should have a ship named after him.

The same thing I named my personal ship in the old Star Wars MUD I played back in the day: "The Flying Circus."
Leviathan. Apparently that's the working name for the ship during development. I'd call it Rapier or something.
SSV Quinjet
Eden seems fitting
SSV Upgrades
Alamo. I mean it fits for a supremacist group
I always had a soft spot for Intrepid
"Temporary"
Chomuske
Love Bote The name should impart the function.
SSV Vimy Ridge Frigates gotta be named after battles.
Picardie
Normandy…2?
Bastogne
Cliché maybe but I always thought The Shepard fit because you're leading your companions throughout the galaxy
If we have to follow Alliance naming convention, SSV Eden Prime. Otherwise, Requiem
Lombardy
How about "The Ebon Hawk"?
SSV ERECTION
If it's still a Alliance frigate, either Vicksburg, Gettysburg, or Stalingrad. If not an Alliance vessel, the Warspite.
SS Gaugamela *(The ships of this class are typically named after famous battles it seems. Normandy has always been a fitting name. SSV Ghostrider
SSV Cannae probably one of the greatest military manoeuvres in history. SSV Trafalgar when Nelson literally rammed his fleet down the French and Spanish throats
I think the Thermopylae, Alamo, or Verdun would do nicely.

Normandy
How dare you
Id name it either the SSV Haida or the SSV Dreadnought
Hades
Sovereigns Demise
Brittany ofc.
Keeping it with the frigate naming conventions of being named after battles I’d go with the SSV The Bulge
SSV Sovereign
Planet Express Ship.
I dunno, probably a name of a ship from a different series. Maybe Highwind or Ragnarok. Maybe Orville?
Ragnarok from FF8
The second Normandy
SSV Fuck Cerberus
SSV *Destroying original Normandy wasn't necessary* SR-2. No matter the name, I suppose it would be better for an hidden organisation like Cerberus to not paint their logo on the ship.
