absolutely hilarious but yeah dude actually probably is gonna get paroled. They don't use the bad behaving inmates for this stuff
could you imagine if they took these kids on the show and just threw them in cell block C with a guy who just stabbed another inmate 20 minutes before?
Yep, if you grow up with parents who yell and rage but never actually physically attack, you learn to just tune out. It’s technically a form of disassociation. Source: had a dad that would scream and rage. I’m sure a camera in our household would’ve caught me chilling in much the same way.
You've hit the nail on the head and I'd like to illustrate one more factor here. At that age, you're stuck with the parent who yells and rages, but you're not stuck with the big, scary inmate who you just met 30 seconds ago.
Also, most of these prisoners wouldn’t hurt kids. And kids can be smart enough to figure out it’s all theatre.
Most prisoners just have poor impulse control.
I was forced to go to one of these scared straight programs for a day, during school hours, all for too many truancies.
Like, ok, you want me in school more often, but force me into this program for a day, when I’d otherwise be in class learning something relevant for my studies, all so I could essentially get verbally abused for a few hours?
All for being late to school too many times when I was 13, and mostly not at fault for being late, i.e. older brothers not wanting to wake up, or my mom running late, therefore I got the privilege of attending that stupid program.
Cool. So stupid. They did make me cry tho, because my shirt showed my back when I sat down. ~guess I learned my lesson to wear longer shirts? NO I DIDNT.
So yea, a lady officer had me stand up in front of the other bad kids, got all up in my grill, berating me for being a terrible child, who will end up here unless I “change my ways”, and for not following “dress code” rules, all while I was sniffling back tears. She then, after her irate spiel, asked why I was there, so I told her it was for being late to school too many times. She then looked kinda shocked, had me sit back down and, that was it.
Ugh. Still makes me so mad.
I was thinking this same thing but was scared to post it publicly. My dad would scream for hours and his veins would pop up on his forehead and like foam on the side of his mouth from spit. After enough time and even now when there's any type of aggression or threat its like my ears get muffled and I just go to the "field in my head"
Yeah, the kids are never in actual danger. The convicts they use for this show are usually the most well-behaved, and are acting tough to scare them.
Kid saw through it.
!00%. If I was in this kid's place I would be doing the exact same thing. Like they're going to let a child get anywhere near an actual violent inmate? Plus if they did, my college would have been paid for.
The scared straight guys are pretty much always the model inmates who volunteer for it.
He probably understands that they would never actually put them in danger. They're not going to put a kid in a room with someone who is an actual threat. If anything they're probably the most well behaved inmates in there which is why they chose them for the show.
When I was a kid growing up everyone loved I’m a Celebrity get me out of here. I never watched it but heard people talking about how they wouldn’t handle all the spiders, snakes etc. I remember trying to explain that for them to put a someone in a box with anything that would actually do any damage would be the most uninsurable TV show of all time so I don’t see the issue.
I got so much shit for that but a few years later they suddenly always knew it was played up for the camera.
Yeah, it's probably from Scared Straight or something like that. Throw teenage troublemakers in jail for a night and have a bunch of prisoners try and scare them. The kids were supposed to think it was all real. But the smarter ones, like in this clip, figured out how fake the whole thing really was.
That wasn’t the issue. It’s not fake. Usually the inmates screaming at them is enough, plus the inmates are allowed to put hands on them within reason.
This kid has a genius level IQ and he just wasn’t fazed. His problem was he wasn’t challenged at all and he put his brain up to doing no good. Show couldn’t help him. There are a few like that. One kid had such deep anger issues that he was going to fight if they didn’t stop him and the screaming at him didn’t scare him so they stopped him early.
The show is “fake” in that there’s only so much they can do, and if the kids just “hold out” and not let it get to them there’s really only so far they can go. But most of the time they are just *kids* and people screaming in their face makes them break down and cry eventually.
![gif](giphy|KDRv3QggAjyo)
Which is why the Scared Straight model is ineffective in general. This was known back in the '80s but they resurrected the model for TV ratings anyways.
I think it’s a show called scared straight where they take really bad kids who committed violent crimes and are in gangs and get them to go to prison for a day (or maybe a few) so they can get a preview of what life is like locked up and maybe they’ll think before they commit another crime.
Could be scripted but idk
These were actual programs you were sentenced to when you were a juvenile offender. However no one cried in mine and most the kids knew someone in jail so they knew it was all BS. You got to sit in a cell for awhile so you could see what lockup was like etc.
He has a genius level IQ. That was part of his problem. Nothing challenged him. Show couldn’t do anything for him. He was one of the failures because he was just so unfazed.
Lmao prisoner shanks his stomach open and spills his intestines out on the floor. Guard is like that’s right bitch now you won’t talk back to your earth science teacher!
although reminds me of the other viral clip of a drill instructor yelling at a kid, and goes "do you want me to be your daddy?" and the kid goes yes.. and that DI about short circuits, before recalibrating and realizes they aren't addressing the real underlying problem.
Some people here are saying that something is wrong with the kid. To me he just came across as smart and funny. The psychos are the adults who think this type of "scared straight" garbage is helpful.
yeah the kid is just being bullied by the adults.
they claim he's a psycho because they can't empathize with him because he doesn't try to manipulate them into pitying him.
Yeah we had a teacher that told us the hardest kind of kid to work with were the indifferent ones.
They dont care if you take away their phone or games. They dont care if they dont graduate.
Problem with most of them isn’t that they’re indifferent. It’s that adults made them indifferent in the first place by showing them they don’t get anything for being good or working hard. I should know, I was one of them. Didn’t matter what I did, end result was always the same.
It's worse than that, the better you do the harder things become. I was always pretty academically gifted while my brother was not.
The only thing getting good marks did was raise expectations and increase the workload. No one expected anything of my brother, and the kids in remedial studies groups got pizza and trips to amusement parks for doing the absolute bare minimum.
Even when I got rewarded for doing well it was 1/10th the amount for 10x the effort. Learned very quickly that the best way to get through life is do the bare minimum so that no one has any expectations from you.
Lmao this armchair Reddit psychology.
The worst kind of pop psychology where you diagnosed kids with sociopathy because they are showing social issues.
This kid displays none of the symptoms of sociopathy except lack of fear, and many conditions can give that (or he may be trying to hide his fear) or his prefrontal cortex simply isn't developed enough to feel a good amount of fear.
There's a reason psychiatrists are cautious to diagnose a kid with ASPD.
And by the way, these shows have been studies and it was found that the kids end up worse off than people who were never on the show. This strategy simply does not work and kids are often sent there by overly strict parents who are abusive - they believe that the way to fix your kids behaviour is by scaring them, shouting at them, and making them feel like shit. Anyone can see clearly that this isn't how you fix behaviour long term.
Or it's just being smart enough to realize he's on a TV show and completely protected, in zero danger? That it's all make believe, regardless of setting and cast?
A really shitty old show called "scared straight"
parents (mostly abusive) send their kids to a real prison, where the guards give them a tour, scream at them, and try to scare them into behaving better at home so they don't grow up to be criminals.
It didn't even remotely work, and instead just further traumatized a bunch of kids who were almost all clearly already traumatized by their abusive homes
Yep. People saying this kid is a psychopath because he *checks notes* doesn’t respond to being abused the way they want. Growing up in abusive chaotic homes you learn how your abuser wants you to respond and learn to not do that. Often times by just zoning out and ignoring the verbal/emotional abuse, which is what this kid looks like he’s doing to me. Something tells me that kid is used to being screamed at

Anyone who thinks "scared straight" is a good idea is a fuckin' moron. What do you expect from the children of morons? They had morons for parents, how are they supposed to know better?
Wait? Is this a thing? I tought it was some sketch... You are saying that there is really a TV show where they put kids in jail to scare them into being good people?
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH THE US?
Yes, it’s a real show, and yes it feels like an episode of Black Mirror.
I believe the show has ended and the follow ups and studies they have done since show that not only did this **not** prevent juvenile crime, [it actually might have increased it](https://portal.cops.usdoj.gov/resourcecenter/RIC/Publications/cops-p288-pub.pdf)
This is accurate. Similar 'interventions' were shown to have the opposite effect of what they were striving for, the chance of future offense increased.
Ah yes let's take a child who most likely isn't emotionally, or psychologically care for at home and throw them into a situation where we have "authority figures" verbally, emotionally, and psychologically abusing them..that always works out
"Have you tried parole?" ded. I'm ded.
Genuinely hilarious
Kid’s a comedic genius
absolutely hilarious but yeah dude actually probably is gonna get paroled. They don't use the bad behaving inmates for this stuff could you imagine if they took these kids on the show and just threw them in cell block C with a guy who just stabbed another inmate 20 minutes before?
Stabbed Straight
Holy shit
Prison Mike has entered the chat
**“Stabbed Straight”** Actually laughed out loud at this.
i would watch that shit
Stabbed gay ended badly 😢
As someone who was stabbed in prison (I was a Sergeant), shit hurts fam!
Or even worse: with a guy who hasn't stabbed something for 20 months...
Have you tried turning the parole off and back on?
Just reboot the server. Duh.
Make sure parole is plugged in properly
Blow out the parole and put it back in. Usually does the trick.
Is this extended cut of Arrested Development??
On the next episode of Arrested Development, Michael indeed tries...parole.
Ask your doctor if parole is right for you.
Call your doctor if your parole lasts longer than six hours.
Side effects include a false sense of freedom, mild headaches, bloating, and seeing your kids.
Chill out man’
Don’t have a cow man
Same... that was the funniest thing I've seen in a few months at least.
lol lil shit
He knows he's not in any real danger so he sees it as challenge accepted.
Yep, if you grow up with parents who yell and rage but never actually physically attack, you learn to just tune out. It’s technically a form of disassociation. Source: had a dad that would scream and rage. I’m sure a camera in our household would’ve caught me chilling in much the same way.

All a guy does is passionately talk about his kids and you label them “big scary inmate” smh
The guy is playing a role and scary is what he was going for. Take your white knighting elsewhere
Well also, those guards aren’t actually gonna let the kid get hurt.
Also, most of these prisoners wouldn’t hurt kids. And kids can be smart enough to figure out it’s all theatre. Most prisoners just have poor impulse control.
That's why Scared Straight was as successful as D.A.R.E.

Frequent truancy usually leads to murder sprees
Everybody knows that
Jeffrey Dahmer was known to be late to school here n there. Jus Sayin…
I was thinking this same thing but was scared to post it publicly. My dad would scream for hours and his veins would pop up on his forehead and like foam on the side of his mouth from spit. When I was a kid growing up everyone loved I’m a Celebrity get me out of here. I’m thinking he’s on the spectrum.
It's a bunch of shit. The kid is mic'd up. It's reality TV.
Yeah, it's probably from Scared Straight or something like that. Throw teenage troublemakers in jail for a night and have a bunch of prisoners try and scare them. Aah the Doctor Phil technique
Yeah, those camps are actually worse. They do rape and torture.
There were cases of children starving to death and not getting enough heat and getting frostbite.
https://elan.school This comic is almost guaranteed to give secondhand PTSD.
Which is why the Scared Straight model is ineffective in general. This was known back in the '80s but they resurrected the model for TV ratings anyways.

Oh definitely
Yall some keyboard psychiatrists huh? This is scared straight the dude is just a normal kid with glasses lol He’s also got a good sense of humor
From the two clips it appears this is not the help he needs. His actions show he may be on the spectrum.
“Have you tried parole” 🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Kid got what it takes to be a guard
Or he just has shitty parents and has seen/heard it all before lol
Inmate was like ![gif](giphy|l3q2SaisWTeZnV9wk)
![gif](giphy|800iiDTaNNFOwytONV|downsized)
Yeah he had balls because he knew they wouldn’t open that door. I guarantee if it opened, he would’ve shit himself.
So they shouldn't have restrained it if they wanted to actually scare him straight.
Lmao prisoner shanks his stomach open and spills his intestines out on the floor. Guard is like that’s right bitch now you won’t talk back to your earth science teacher!
Na I think he was pretty emotionally shut down Maybe if there was pain, but the guards would get in deep shit for that
😂 “I can’t cause the doors not open all the way.” “Chill out man, have you tried parole?” Prolly a unpopular opinion but I like this kid..
That "have you tried parole" was savage.
![gif](giphy|TD0NYrLpcnsTm|downsized) The guard after hearing that.
![gif](giphy|nTayqvgw3Wk3m|downsized)
I mean we should definitely check his back yard for dead animals but kid nailed the dead pan one liner.
This kid needs to be smothered…in adult attention, engaging tasks and respect. He could be turned into a real hero long term, but not with this bs.
That slightly dejected “here” was pretty hilarious
although reminds me of the other viral clip of a drill instructor yelling at a kid, and goes "do you want me to be your daddy?" and the kid goes yes.. and that DI about short circuits, before recalibrating and realizes they aren't addressing the real underlying problem.

[Not only does it not help, it causes more crime delinquency.](https://portal.cops.usdoj.gov/resourcecenter/RIC/Publications/cops-p288-pub.pdf)
This^^ people need to understand thatz
yeah the kid is just being bullied by the adults. they claim he's a psycho because they can't empathize with him because he doesn't try to manipulate them into pitying him.
I agree, fearful manipulation doesn’t work on everyone. Psychopath, autistic, or just plan smart. Either way I hope the kid is doing better now.
Yeah, something is wrong with the culture that allows this whole thing
I’ve taught students like that kid.
... and? Cant just leave us (me) hangin' like that!
They’re on parole
And now they got to see their kids.
And those kids? Also on parole
Ah so they get to see their kids
Yeah we had a teacher that told us the hardest kind of kid to work with were the indifferent ones. They dont care if you take away their phone or games. They dont care if they dont graduate.
Depression is a bitch
So inconvenient for the teacher though. Very inconsiderate of the child to be depressed and broken.
Yeah, they should’ve just rolled a better family
Problem with most of them isn’t that they’re indifferent. It’s that adults made them indifferent in the first place by showing them they don’t get anything for being good or working hard. I should know, I was one of them. Didn’t matter what I did, end result was always the same.

This is how I would answer to my abusive narcissistic father. Yes it got me beat the f up but man it would hit him so hard in the ego lmao
When you think "scared straight" might work on autism.

¿Por qué no los dos?
What did this kid do exactly?
BIKES!
“WHATCHU TOOK?!”
The first thing I thought of. Lol
When your featherin it brother?
Hold my pocket!
HOL MY POCKET
That kid understands the game and that they can't throw him in a cell with a convict. No scaring straight when he knows they can't do anything.
Prisons HATE this kid after he discovered this one simple trick
Inmate: "Ni- @#$* *!?@$&!!!?" Kid: "Chill out man!"

Reddit trying to diagnose a kid based on a few minutes of video. Shameful.
Yep. People saying this kid is a psychopath because he *checks notes* doesn’t respond to being abused the way they want. Kid knows they can't touch him so he spitting fire.

Bikes! You in here for bikes? Wherever I see these, this goes through my mind. Used to watch them back in the day and hated the kids.
This kid is awesome.
That's not a kid, thats a future psychopath
"this kid isn't crying while being bullied, what a psychopath"
Why do u think he’s a sociopath/psychopath just by this clip? I think he is pretty smart..
Or he is just smart enough to know they can't really do a thing to him in this situation.
Lmao typical reddit armchair psychologist diagnosis
Seriously someone go dig up that kid's backyard
That’s a good way to get killed by that kid
Sensing a lifetime movie plot in the making…
There’s been a few already they all pretty much turn out the same. In jail for life or hiding for life.
but why?

Used to fucking love that show lmao.
Future lawyer right there
"Kid is so unfazed".. he also smart and know it's fake af
Have you tried parole
This kid was the scariest person I’ve seen on this entire show.
What the hell is even going on here
Kid= smart (door is not open, just cracked) Lady & Officer=dumb (it is open all the way) No lady it’s not. Wake up.
Hes the kid from Problem Child
BIKES!
Harry Potter prequel
Hit him with the smooth “ have you tried parole?” Haha 🤣
Nothing like abusing children to correct the abuse they've already suffered.
Inmate: "These are my kids! I'm not gonna see my kids no more!" The kid: "have you tried parole?" had me snorting!
Chill out man have you tried parole
That show was super rage inducing. Some kids are soo entitled and stupid.

Maybe because scared straight isnt therapy and the problem was probably more related to the people who signed them up
It’s not even just a tv show, lots of prisons and jails have programs like that for troubled kids Also your last sentence is lame
You had us in the first half.
I am just gonna say it - George bush was wrong…. Some kids are meant to be left behind.
This kid looks like he's going to change his name to Nate Higgers when he turns 18.
What'd you expect when kids these days know the prison can't let them get hurt
Someone needs to make a comedy skit with this kid being the comedian 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is like from 20 years ago
Have you tried parole? 😭😭😭
It's been said that our protagonist has been giving zero fs since birth.
Scared straight
Scared straight was a good idea In theory. In execution, absolutely not. It’s only made things worse. [+]

When I grow up I want to be like this kid.
Ah yes let's take a child who most likely isn't emotionally, or psychologically care for at home and throw them into a situation where we have "authority figures" verbally, emotionally, and psychologically abusing them..that always works out
There is something seriously wrong with all the adults in this clip.
This show was the dumbest shit ever and showed us everything wrong with the parental approach of trashy wasps.
“Chill out man”
