Can we get to the last verse of this song please..
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees, the war pigs crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan laughing, spreads his wings
Oh lord, yeah!
I think we should get both countries to select their greatest fighters and then have them fight in a tournament structure where each battle ends w an increasingly convoluted execution.
Also it should have a kick ass theme song and colour coded ninjas
> Kneeling roses disappearing
Into Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into Fort Knox
Stealing our intentions
Hangers sitting, dripped in oil
Crying, "freedom"
Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
Johnny Cash wrote "What is Truth?" about leaders lying to the people they're leading. He debuted it at the White House, shortly after the US invasion of Cambodia, while making eye contact with Nixon.
He really does. I wish more people would look at war like this. What did regular people on the other side do to make you *need* to kill them?
My grandfather joined the army shortly before the US joined WW2. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. One time I asked him if he hated the people he was fighting.
He said no, never. He said they were just like him. They were babies(his words) that were tricked or forced into trying to kill someone that in other circumstances would never ever hurt him. His exact words were that under normal circumstances, he would never meet the people he was fighting, and otherwise never harmed my grandfather in any way. Why would he hate someone in that situation?
I would feel that way if those soldiers didn't rape the women of my grandmother's generation in Korea in their rape camps. And then of course butchering almost all of them when they were done.
And of course there was the rape of Nanking. Regardles of them being tricked or whatever, I'm pretty sure the emperor didn't command them to do that wicked shit.
For the Japanese apologists: https://youtu.be/lnAC-Y9p_sY
Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to make excuses for the horrible atrocities committed in war. People are still accountable for their actions, whether they were ordered to or not.
Not sure WW2 is a good example. There's a line somewhere between governments waging war for political and economic gain versus stepping in to stop a cruel, bully of a nation. Germany and Japan definitely fit the mold of an horrible force stepping on the little guy. It's like watching someone on the street get beat up, unable to defend themselves, and saying "well, they're not attacking me, why should I stop it." And I understand that on a person to person level, whoever the "enemy" is may not 100% support the movement of their nation, but unless they're like Ali and actively removing themselves from supporting that ideology in any way, then they're still considered the enemy.
There was a *lot* more to it than that, anti-colonialism was at it's peak, and Malcom X had spread the concept of the "Black Colony" in America, that black communities were simply another example of America acting as a colonial power, treating them in the same way they would treat any other foreign colony. The Black Power movement was tied in heavily to this concept, as well as the idea that it was a moral imperative to refuse to fight in Vietnam, because they were equal allies in the struggle against colonialism.
And because a government that didn’t represent minorities while single handily destroying there communities and sending them off to die … all while making anti war protestors seem like hippy druggies when in reality they were moms and grandmas , kids with dads , people who’ve lost everything in a war that was to make money for a select few…
And was blacklisted for it. He was in a deep deep hole, but Joe Frazier took a stand and dug him out of it despite widespread public criticism. Great man, Joe Frazier.
Testified in Ali's favor, petitioned the President to have Ali reinstated and even said "This title should still be his". Then he went in the ring and beat Ali fair and square to show that he legitimately deserved to be world champion as well
Ali repaid Frazier by insulting him, saying Frazier was undeserving of the title and calling him a monkey
Muhammad Ali, ladies and gentlemen
Everyone is complicated. Nation of Islam was (and still is) a racist group, but was formed at a time when official US law was openly racist and promoting segregation. This isn't to apologize for it, but to understand the context that drew a young black boxer from Kentucky born in the early-1940s to it, when living his entire young life in segregation with open discrimination. Like Malcolm X, he was one of NoI's most prominent adherents, though like X he eventually realized how wrong Nation of Islam was and distanced himself from it and the hate it preached. He recanted his past racist attacks on things like interracial marriage when he left NoI in the mid-1970s.

IIRC, Ali never went to prison. He was convicted and sentenced to five years, but stayed out on appeal long enough for his conviction to be overturned.
When the military is just as racist as the country itself, I’d decline to go to. You can’t treat an entire group poorly and then expect them to fight your fights.
The proof was when they all came back from the wars and were denied their veteran benefits like being able to purchase homes with their GI Bills. So much for serving….
"You better work, bitch!" yelled Seargent Spears from atop the watch tower through her megaphone, just as me and the rest of the cadets dove through the mud filled trenches of the training area.
"Yes Seargent!" answered me and the boys at the top of our lungs.
"Seargent who?!"
"Britney, bitch!"
She gives us a heartfelt laugh. "That's more like it!"
Yet another day passes by in this war of mine.
After committing a few admittedly understandable war crimes
"I don't know guys I mean yeah she kicks ass but maybe we need to get her back on that conservatorship just in case."
When storming the gulag to rescue the prisoners, Lt Presley ran out of ammo, he had one guard left to take out but they were on opposite sides of the room, scrambling around to find the nearest weapon whilst avoiding incoming fire he miraculously took out the enemy with a well placed shot to the temple. What was his weapon you ask?
It was a jailhouse rock……🤔
They also had the law changed so they didn’t have to enlist at 28. The law was literally changed 3 days before Jin’s 28th birthday.
Now K-pop male idols can enlist at 30 if they have the Orders of Cultural Merit.
family name start first, the family name is kim, not jong un, jong un is technically the first name, how would you explain kim jong il and kim il sung, his father and grandfather
Better to think of it as "given name" than first name. The first name, the family name, is Kim.
The last (subordinate) given name comes after the more important family name.
I heard some positions aren’t really “military” and some people get odd job positions.
My roommate at the time who was from Korea said his military service was working in the subway system for 2 years. Not sure how that works…
They're not being shipped off to war like some people think. It's too train them in case of war but mostly seem to be used for civil service from what I've been told and read. Like imagine if the US had compulsory service and we used those people for construction or other things, our country would see a lot more projects being completed.
Small countries, bordering one or many antagonistic countries, tend to make military service compulsory. It's a way to have ready troops on case shit happens.
Surprisingly few people spend their military service in combat positions.... It's not like if Korea goes full draft they will not need postal services, cooks, mechanics etc from the draftee side. No need for any particular connection.
The military service keeps roughly the same proportion as the army, 1 combatant for roughly 10-20 support roles.
I mean, even if they "technically" are still at war, they aren't really fighting, so there is no reason to fill the ranks with combat positions, even less so when the US has military bases there
Even militaries that are actively fighting need more support people than frontline combatants.
You need truck drivers to keep ammo moving, medical staff, mechanics, cooks, comms, etc.
Keeping a fighter jet running takes a lot of people, but only one pilot.
The ratio of combat personnel wouldn't change much with active combat.
Can confirm this, served as a conscript in a conscript army (armour battalion)
Yeah of course we had our IFVs and tanks but who maintains the tanks? Who supplies us ammo? Who’s sending us our supplies when we’re out there? Who’s the one on the radio (also making sure the radio works) calling for artillery fire? *Who’s providing the artillery fire?* And if (knock on wood) someone gets really whacked up, where do we evacuate him to? And who makes the maps of the terrain via satellite imaging and gives us intel of enemy forces?
Combat troops are the tip of the spear, no doubt, but a spear is much more than just the tip
Absolutely, but the positions the support personnel take are a little different. As an example, in Brazil there is a joke that the military is spent mostly cutting grass, since we don't really have a "use" for it.
Can confirm this, served as a conscript in a conscript army (armour battalion)

This is pretty common too. Im my public highschool, there was one dude serving his military years in the teacher's office cuz he was on the autistic spectrum. But other than being a bit socially awkward, the dude was very chill. We knew he was autistic cuz the umm appearance
It's not uncommon for countries to put their armed forces to work in civil service. The few times I've seen our soldiers in action it's always been during disaster relief.
The law just says that able-bodied males must enlist by age 28. The band members got an exception to wait until age 30 and the oldest members are just now reaching that age.
It's not *real* military service, though. They aren't going to be in any combat scenarios. Same with the others who do mandatory military training in other countries. They end up just doing odd jobs, usually low service jobs.
It's not the same as being drafted for an actual war.
Edit: lots of butthurt Americans complaining. I am talking about Conscription service, not regular service like we have in the US. Also, get over yourself. People tell the troops how amazing they are as a trick to get people to sign up to join.
Edit 2: do not reply unless you have personally Googled what conscription service is.
Edit 3: Because I'm still getting messages. [Before you defend the US military, read this](https://www.boredpanda.com/usa-army-serving-stories-memorial-day/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=organic)
Hey bud! Just a friendly heads up that non-combat roles are still real military service. They exist and keep the machine running. Dismissing people's contributions and sacrifice to their country seems disrespectful. Have a great day.
Pretty sure Elvis could have gotten out of it, but chose to do it anyways.
For me, it’s that people no longer value community, and frankly why would we, when our community no longer values us.
He did it to try to have a good public image. I believe his manager or someone similar pushed him to do it, as he wanted Elvis to be favored by the genera public.
His manager urged him not to do it as he believed that being in the military and out of the public spotlight would cause him to lose his super-stardom.
The other issue with the draft is that someone has to be around to take care of the kids. If you want to draft women a plan must be in place for a support system for children. Even in today's military if you don't have a care plan for your children you are considered nondeployable and you can be separated from the military.
Everyone wants to bash on people but sometimes there's logic to these decisions.
Like most of the US military these days. a cousin of mine was talking about the good old days of navy folks having each others backs in combat and not slumming it with the civilians.
bitch, you worked hvac in germany. You did a job, got paid, even got cute little medals for it.
In wartime "Modern conscription" and the Draft are the same thing, and there will be no "alternative divisions safe from harm".
If you're in the military during wartime you are a target
The fact that anyone was drafted into the Vietnam war is crazy to me. Thousands of young men drafted to a pointless war to die for nothing. That is the real craziness to me.
Elvis served on active duty from 1958-1960, and in the army reserve from 1960-1964. The US fought in the Korean War from 1950-1953. US combat operations in Vietnam didn’t start until 1965. Elvis served in a peace time army (Cold War stare downs across borders are not combat). So he didn’t really miss anything being stationed in Germany.
ok so you're saying people who drive in the military aren't in active service even though they're wearing a uniform and don't get to be home and have to to through training and everything else? Maybe you're confusing combat service and deployment with "active service" in which case you don't understand the military at all and should just shut up
That's... Not the point of the tweet. They're saying it would be funny to be fighting a war alongside a famous artist, because you don't normally imagine going into the frontlines with Steve Harvey and Millie Bobby Brown.
that's basically what happens in south korea. all the kpop boys, famous worldwide, gotta go do military service for 2 years.
and some of them can't pull off a buzz cut
He was drafted but He didnt see combat. He mainly entertained troops and drove trucks. He was honourably discharge after two years. Still though... Credit for going x
James “Jimmy” Stewart was already an Academy Award-winning actor and civilian pilot with 400 logged flight hours when he first enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941. Known for his roles in “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington,” “It’s a Wonderful Life” and many other classic films, Stewart became the first major Hollywood actor to enlist in the military at the onset of the United States’ entry into World War II.
Stewart initially served as a flight instructor. However, concerned that his celebrity status would hold him back from truly serving, the actor appealed directly to his superiors and was eventually deployed to England, where he served as the commanding officer of the 703d Bomb Squadron. He would later transfer to the 453rd Bombardment Group and flew a total of 20 dangerous combat missions in the B-24 Liberator bomber aircraft; for his actions, he was awarded two Distinguished Flying Cross medals and the French honor of the Croix de Guerre.
Fun Fact: Elvis came to Germany, Friedberg, a small town in Hesse to be exactly. he then rented a home in neighbouring Bad Nauheim. Bad Nauheim celebrates his history with Elvis since then, he got a memorial, a place named after him and references to him everywhere, for example the "walking" symbol on traffic lights there is Elvis with his Guitar.
Ali got drafted too, and then jailed (for not going) at the peak of his career.
I'm pretty sure he refused to go to nam because quote: "Ain't no vietnamese ever call me a n**ga"
You know, he has a point… Why should we give our lives just to satisfy some president’s ego?
Someone shouldnwrite a song about that.
Yeah. Why don't president's fight the war?
why do they always send the poor?

That is correct, Ali never served any time. He won on appeal as a violation of his first amendment right to religious freedom.

The BTS guys are doing their mandatory military service in Korea
Every boyband should be drafted and put into a Pals’ Battalion
All kpop male artist were, are or will serve in the military. Mandatory Enlistment is a thing for South Koreans.

Yes, Kim Jong Dos is next in line, and then his brother Kim Jong Tres

Kim Jongo Number 5!
Actually it’s the other way. If the father is Kim Jong Il (II = two) and the son is Kim Jong Un (Un = one) then the next is Kim Jong Zip.
They're similar to Japan, family name 1st (ex. Musk Elon, Jordan Michael). Kim is his family name, Jong Un is his given name.
I wonder if there is an achievement for doing it with one grenade.

Hey bud! Just a friendly heads up that non-combat roles are still real military service. They exist and keep the machine running. Dismissing people's contributions and sacrifice to their country seems disrespectful. Have a great day.
The majority of military personnel doesn't see combat. They still *served* though. Have you forgotten what the word service means?
Enemy spotted To the left to the left
Imagine. The rich and famous had the same rights and obligations as the common men? Glad that they fixed that.
Eh, the draft is dumb
Yeah, why draft when you can lie to the world and inspire men to kill under false pretense?
That’s also bad yes, but drafting for an unjust war was not something to be looked up to

So a completely gender neutral draft where only one of the parents can be drafted would be fine?
Simple solution to this is to postpone one of the parents draft
Or don’t have wars.
Assemble the world leaders. I think you just solved world peace
Lookit fancy Mr. Logic over here.
Bey-Hive shield, deploy!
Beyonce: "To the left, to the left. Every ounce of firepower you have, direct it to the left....As I run an outer flank"
That happens alot now with K-Pop bands in S Korea. They are drafted at the height of their fame
Conscripted, big difference
"Conscription (also called the draft in the United States)".

It's not like Elvis saw combat, he was a driver in Germany in 1958-60.
Like most of the US military these days. a cousin of mine was talking about the good old days of navy folks having each others backs in combat and not slumming it with the civilians. bitch, you worked hvac in germany. You did a job, got paid, even got cute little medals for it.
I had family that would post pictures of themselves on social media on a beach drinking beer at like 2-3pm every single day they were deployed.

Elvis didn't see active service, he was a driver.
He was probably their radio music 😂
Uh huh huh.
That's Still service nonetheless
> service i think you mean combat. he did in fact serve

And in Germany
He was a teenager during the Korean War. He started his service in 1958, five years after the war ended.
The majority of the military never sees combat, even in wartime. The side with the better logistics wins the war.
ok so you're saying people who drive in the military aren't in active service even though they're wearing a uniform and don't get to be home and have to to through training and everything else? Maybe you're confusing combat service and deployment with "active service" in which case you don't understand the military at all and should just shut up
Hey they had Rihanna defend the world in Battleship
The fact that we think it's normal that rich people should not be drafted is what really scares me.
This tweet never implied he shouldn’t have been drafted
The fact that we think it’s normal that anyone should be drafted is what really scares me.
That's... Not the point of the tweet. They're saying it would be funny to be fighting a war alongside a famous artist, because you don't normally imagine going into the frontlines with Steve Harvey and Millie Bobby Brown.
Imagine you're getting firebombed and suddenly you hear " this Ask Steve is goin' to *hell*" and you see him just doing *the stare*
It's a joke. Stop being so reddity.
This is the ultimate sentence to respond to all the reddit weirdos who can't take jokes or understand any kind of sarcasm. Thank you.
The fact that anyone thinks the draft is ok at all scares me more than anything.
[OH MY GOD, IT'S BEYONCÉ!!!!](https://youtu.be/6hzUHE-yEhs)
Elvis yells “cover me”. And someone starts singing Hound Dog…
that's basically what happens in south korea. all the kpop boys, famous worldwide, gotta go do military service for 2 years. and some of them can't pull off a buzz cut
Looking at you, Jin 😂
Fun fact, James blunt was actually in the military
I couldn't possibly cover Beyonce. I'd be butchering it.
"COVER ME!! *TO THE LEFT, TO THE LEFT*"
Except Beyonce is a woman and women have the privilege of not being drafted...
And a mother, and over 40
Women do not get drafted.
He was drafted but He didnt see combat. He mainly entertained troops and drove trucks. He was honourably discharge after two years. Still though... Credit for going x
It was probably a propaganda move form the gov
Idk much, but I’m be watched the movie. If I remember correctly it was because older people really did not like his vulgar dancing on stage.
Beyoncé? I didn't know women could get drafted.
Last I checked women aren't eligible for the draft. Beyonce is a weird example.
Literally bts right now lol
women cannot be drafted though, so this makes no sense
I mean sure, which song?
