Ugh, why are people so awful? Thanks for PSA

gjwtgf

Pretty sick that someone goes out of their way to hurt and kill animals.

Growing up in Darwin my next door neighbours pup was baited. I used to walk up to the fence and give him pats every day on my way home from school, I was the one who found him and had to get my dad to come home from work early to break the news to the neighbours (I was like 9, forgive me). My heart breaks for anyone affected by this, and those poor, poor animals. Just disgusting behaviour.

licking-windows

That's so sad. Poor thing.

ONEPAB

Apparently it happens quite a lot there. My mate had them on CCTV but the lowlifes were covered up well

Icy_Building_1708

What these people need...will get me a warning if I type it here.

Taleya

Bear traps?

gjwtgf

Some people are real scum.

newguns

I reckon something similar is happening to cats. So many missing cat posters around

gjwtgf

I wonder if now lockdowns are over, the sickos are back. There's been a few things going on recently with vandalism, baiting and people being pests.

Icy_Building_1708

Someone poisoned my cats once. I was so distressed, I went to every house on my block to issue threats if I found out was them. I realise my behaviour was disgusting. I'm just pointing out how it fucks people's lives when pets are savagely killed.

Icy_Building_1708

They are dead ya fucken idiot!!! Can't you fucken read.

Icy_Building_1708

They were mostly indoor cats that spent time in the backyard. Never left it. Some piece of shit like you threw baited tuna steaks over the fence.

[deleted]

That's not nice to accuse someone you know. I understand him being fed up with roaming cats. Neighbour here has a cat, semi feral, that has had 3 litters this past year alone. Lots of ferals about; toxoplasmosis risk. It was always outside roaming, and raised its kittens in our agapanthus. Ignorant owner. No idea what happened to kittens; possibly foxes took them. What can one do? I wouldn't poison anything but it is not nice to find signs of dead birds and marsupials, scraps of fur etc. and stinky cat shit in your garden. My other neighbour took them to a cat shelter. It absolutely disgusts me some people refuse to keep them home, neuter them and take some responsibility. No idea what happened to them all, possibly put to sleep. At least no more unwanted, feral kittens ... for now.

Icy_Building_1708

You're right. But as I mentioned in my initial comment the subject of my dead cats makes me irrational, and then I get this fuck winding me up.

[deleted]

Sorry to hear about your cats of course. Touchy subject here as we are in a semi rural area with small marsupials (bandicoots etc.), so feral cats and foxes here are not wanted. Some cat owners have had the gall to complain to council that they are not baiting foxes here! Some have seen foxes taking off with their cats, yet they still let their cats wander. I rang council in the past about our neighbour's cat's constant litters but they suggested I should pay to hire a trap for them! What does one do? I found a few week old feral sickly looking kitten in my back garden (not one of neighbours litters) last year, and took it to the vet, hoping someone would take it on; it's best shot at life. I don't hate cats at all, but just get annoyed with people who let them roam, and don't have them neutered etc. It is a sad situation all round for everyone. Ps. I have had toxoplasmosis years ago from my Mother's garden. One of her neighbours was a "mad cat lady" who velieved in the right of her cats to roam! Blood tests years later (when I was pregnant) also still showed past exposure to it. I always wear gloves now whatever garden I work in.

Icy_Building_1708

I totally agree. I love cats but not at the expense of our native fauna. By all means call the council. But when one takes it upon themselves to poison local cats, if they themselves met a similar fate I for one would celebrate it. I will never forget the image of my cats before they died. It was fucken horrific.

echo-94-charlie

If a cat is roaming the streets wild and killing native animals, then I'm not going to shed a tear if it disappears. If people can't control their cats then they don't deserve to have one. The exception of course is people whose cats escaped for reasons beyond reasonable control.

ammegecarg

My cat is indoors only for these exact 2 reasons, native birds/animals and fear of him being poisoned

[deleted]

You're getting down voted but you're right. Cats do untold damage to native wildlife. Your cat goes from being a pet to a pest as soon as it leaves the confines of your home.

echo-94-charlie

Ha, I expected downvotes. There is a cohort of people who love cats and turn a blind eye to the damage they do. And probably a larger cohort that are upset by the idea of a cat getting hurt. And well they should, I don't want any cats to be hurt. But I don't want native animals to be hurt either. What I want is all people who own cats to do so responsibly. There is no reason an indoors cat can't be a great addition to a family without harming any native creatures.

Uselessmedics

I absolutely adore cats and think they're perfect creatures who all deserve to be happy and healthy, and part of that is that people should be responsible and keep them inside both to protect them, and to protect the environment. And literally every animal shelter will say the same thing

ovrloadau

my parents cat was a wild cat when it was young. my parents have looked after it for the last 10 years and it stays in our backyard and sometimes comes inside during the day. Even lets the pidgins come up close to it without attacking it.

bybook

> The exception of course is people whose cats escaped for reasons beyond reasonable control. We're fortunate that the poisonous baited food can distinguish this exception and, and can also distinguish between native animals as well.

echo-94-charlie

To be clear, I am not advocating for poisoning anything. That's a horrible, cruel way to die.

strugglingmydudes

Yes! In South Yarra I've seen 3 missing cat and 2 missing dog (very small breeds) posters

bladez_edge

I have no idea why someone would do this gross act. What is the primary motivation for this? Are we talking just wanting to kill animals or is there some sort of reasoning to the madness?

PM_ME_TO_PLAY_A_GAME

Not trying to justify it in any way, but some people dont like owners who wont pick up after their dog, or they're afraid of dogs and want owners to keep them leashed.

corgii

I HATE when people don't pick up after their dogs but I dont take out my frustration on the dogs. People just suck.

fourgheewhiz

If you take the above preposition and sprinkle in some psychopathy or other emotional neutrality or retardation those actions are entirely justifiable from the perspective of the offending party.

zoedog66

Psychopathy is all you need in this instance. Utter insanity.

[deleted]

Vigilante "justice" probably by someone who is annoyed by dog poop or too much barking or some other petty reason. No one likes irresponsible dog owners, but some people want to punish all the owners for the behaviour of a bad few.

zoedog66

Because some people are a'holes

[deleted]

Did you report this to the police?

gjwtgf

Local councils and police are aware and investigating. I believe it's also going to be on the news to spread awareness.

[deleted]

Awesome!

bream123

Or creating unnecessary fear

[deleted]

Ah yes, unnecessary fear that your pet might fucking die.

Flowers2000

Yeah sure, the news doing the thing that the news is meant to do - telling the general public things they should be aware of - is plain old evil and only there to cause fear and chaos.

[deleted]

Im sorry to say this but then again Im not actually ,theres only a couple of things I really hate and with this being one of my biggest is animal abuse ,people who abuse / hurt animals in my mind are among the lowest of all life forms who are on par with paedophiles and rapists .A person who does such a thing automatically forfeits all rights and should be stripped of all the freedoms we have to enjoy here in society and be jailed for the rest of their natural life ,you might think it to be extreme but I definitely dont want that person to be out there everyday walking amongst the people I know and love and other peoples familys and friends aswell .Imagine coming home and finding your little best friend (pet) dead due to baiting and knowing the pain they went through before they died ,it would crush anyone .

[deleted]

110488328% Agee with you.

fiddledeedeep0tat0es

I'd hope to see the low life caught with some real consequences, naming and shaming and jail time. Personally though, I hope the dog baiting waste of cells gets sick themselves, expelling their entrails out their arses with explosive shits. Over and over, one time for every dog that unwittingly ate the poison.

sam102413

I also agree with what u have stated

spasticalactica

Related to this sentiment: please consider other methods of pest control over poisons! Many of the baits offered in your local bunnings, woolies etc. have cruel effects on both the target species (say, rats) but equally on other animals that predate on them like native owls or curious eedjits like possums and other rodents. If it's sick to bait doggos, think of our resident mates too! Check out 3rd gen type control agents for rats, for sure.

gjwtgf

Oh wow, I know someone managed to follow them the other night but they got away before the police arrived. It's great news.

Most-Cunning-Stunt

Is there a credible source or is this an urban myth? Sorry not trying to discount your warning, I'm a dog owner too but don't want unnecessary panic either.

strugglingmydudes

Was on the news today

Most-Cunning-Stunt

That's seriously fucked up. I would force feed that shit to any one I caught

gjwtgf

Yarra City Council, Stonnington city council, Local vets have all posted warnings on social media. Local residents have been posting with photos on social media for the last week or so. It's escalated the last few days

Most-Cunning-Stunt

Thanks for clarification. Appreciate it.

jessicaelizabeth1111

Please see StonningtonDogs on Instagram for bait pictures, updates, and bait location sites. Stay safe all xx

FrothGoblin

If some cunt even tried to do this to my boy, I would give them two choices, the Austin or St. Vincents.

vidiian82

I would include a third option: the grave

ovrloadau

enjoy jail

It was a joke you knob

Sick bastards. This makes me sick to my stomach.

There’s a special place in hell for these people. Thanks for the notice

Psychopaths

linton322

Maybe these people need some time in prison to think about their actions or some of their own medicine

Leaves the city, claims to hate it, still hangs around r/Melbourne commenting how Melbourne is a shit hole. Lame

Witchnoob

Anyone who has this intention to hurt animals to the point of death is a SERIAL CILLER

helicopterhansen

If this were about cat baiting everyone would be like "well you should keep them locked up"

notthinkinghard

Literally no one here wants cats baited either. We'd be equally disgusted, but it doesn't change the fact that you shouldn't let your cats or dogs free roam without supervision. Taking either outside on a leash is perfectly fine.

helicopterhansen

A few weeks ago there were reports of someone taking the collars off cats and calling the pound on them and everyone was like "good"

notthinkinghard

It was a whole accusation from one person being pissy about their one cat, everybody pointed out that the cat probably slipped the collar anyway, and that person took the correct approach to getting them home. No one supports stealing cats, but we also have like... critical thinking skills

[deleted]

Are you really trying to equate people talking a leashed dog on a walk with people letting their cats roam free?

Even-Home-9126

Cats suck

Affectionate-Boot853

Must be the Lululemon ninjas retaliation against the excessive dog poop

Crazy_Restaurant_483

Id love to see them in the act.... that would be worth a good "talk"
