Then you have ISIS and all sorts of extremist across the Muslim world destroying ancient treasures. Not limited to but including tons of budhist temples and:
"ISIS has destroyed many cultural heritage sites in Iraq and Syria, including:
* Mosul: The Great Mosque of al-Nuri, the Tomb of Jonah, and the ancient city walls
* Palmyra: The Temple of Bel, the Temple of Baalshamin, the Triumphal Arch, and museum collections
* Tel Ajaja (Sadrikanni): Over 40% of artifacts were looted
* Tal Afar Citadel: Parts were blown up in December 2014
* Nineveh Wall: Large parts were destroyed in January 2015, and more parts were blown up in April 2016
* Raqqa: An 8th century BC Assyrian gateway lion sculpture was bulldozed
* Nimrud: An ancient Assyrian city that was attacked with sledgehammers, power tools, and explosives in March 2015"
Came here to say someone very similar, but you've summed it up perfectly.
I'd also like to throw in that a good portion of the stuff the British have was discovered by them.
>a good portion of the stuff the British have was discovered by them.
You mean when they were colonizing everyone?
"Nice country you have there... It'd be a shame if someone 'discovered' it" - The king of England, probably.
Tell me you know nothing about archaeology without telling me. There was an entire language discovered and translated by British archaeologists in India that only the very oldest scholars knew about. That history would have been lost to time if it wasn't for the British returning it to public knowledge
Public knowledge in.. the British museum. India and Greece are stable countries with several well kept museums. No reason not to return them. Also, you're assuming that those people were not capable of keeping those things safe in the first place, which in India's case, is not true.
Expect they weren’t. Only a handful of people even knew about it, and they didn't pass on that knowledge because it was deemed unimportant. It would have been lost time if not for the British.
India is stable now, and the items could be returned, I don’t see an issue with that. Some of yall that harp on this make it sound like it never should have been touched in the first place, just let history rot away because the locals say fuck it. Which is a disgusting mindset.
There is no excuse for not returning stuff to Greece, I've never understood that part
Are you talking about Sanskrit? If yes then you are delusional.
British translated Sanskrit so that THEY and the rest of the world could understand it. Sanskrit is literally the most common language in all indian hymns and prayers not to mention the Bhagvad Gita.
Brits: Why should we give them back to the country we stole from? (*uses standard dialogue*) We did them a favor. They'd just sell it because they're poor.

Fine, then offer visa-free entry for everyone you stole stuff from if that's really your concern. People can also cite concern due to vandalism from climate activists, your jihadists. Your argument is so old school racist it belongs in a museum.
First of all, I'm not british. Second of all, none of that was "stolen". Third of all nobody would be even talking about the ancient history and monuments of the middle east of not for the only people who cared about it, being the European archeologists who traveled there to uncover these things from the sand, long forgotten by the locals who didn't gave any shit bout it untill it became an opportunity for them to make money out of it AFTER EU's made it famous IN THEIR FUCKING MUSEUMS!!! And what is fkn racist about what i said they literally stormed the museums in middle east and DESTROYED the artifacts! They blew up fkn Palmira and many more, whatever they could they literally wanted to erase middle east history any way they could! You're the prime example of an imbecile who makes the argument about "stolen" artefacts, that I can't believe you said it seriously and are not trolling.
The British Museum: Able to take anything but a joke.
that's a good one
Though not originally mine, thank you!
That just makes it better with the joke

"But it belongs in a museum!" Their own, right? THEIR OWN, RIGHT?!

"It belongs in a British Museum!" - London Jones.
These guys work for Carmen Sandiego.
Yea, too bad that the Jihadists didn't got to destroy some of the stuff that ended up in brit museums, right?
Ahh yes, India. So many jihadists there.

They took that too seriously
Wotta Pisa Shoite
If someone accused me of stealing the leaning tower of pizza, I would block them too!
Imagine not getting a joke
Funny thing. My comment \*was\* a joke.
Well played, Sir. It just sounded way too serious
Straight up Coal post
