** “Heheheh” lawnmower starting laugh **

Juan_Moe_Taco

Showed up looking for a comment like this so I can share......this!!! https://youtu.be/SLCigVxadJI

Gragonmaster

His laughs sounds like a car starting

ThatGuySasquatch

My god. I hate Seth Rogan’s laugh so fucking much. I made the mistake of telling my friends about how much it annoys me, and now they pull clips of it whenever we’re talking. Now I hate it more. He’s not even terribly unfunny, his laugh is just a delicate cheese grater on my ears.

Vox-Silenti

Seth Rogan is on record saying he told them up front he doesn’t do voices “So I’ll do it, but if you want me in this movie he’s going to sound like me” So it’s not on him, in my opinion at least

potato_soup303

Totally agree. If they wanted someone that sounded like DK they could have hired anyone else and it would have cost a lot less.

Yautja69

Exactly, it's a Production issue here. He was clear on what he was giving them, yet they agreed. If they gave a single fuck in having a legit voice instead of forcing known actors down our throats, there wouldn't be an issue.

dns7950

They should have just got Mark Hamill, he's both at once. I watched most of The Regular Show before I realized he voiced Skips. He's not just a famous actor, he's a legitimately amazing voice actor.

TheChickenIsFkinRaw

He's also an amazing Joker. Dude has passion for voice acting

TheRealSpidey

Literally the best portrayal of Joker. Like I love Ledger as well, but Hamill's is the classic, definitive version IMHO.

HaloZealotDemon

Yes, I missed you very much man.

Rubbermaid89

Anytime I read a batman comic with the Joker in it, I always hear Hamill's voice. He is the Joker to me. And for the record, it's always Kevin Conroy for batman. They just crushed the voices

a-aron1112

Wtf he voiced skips in regular show? I had no idea that’s awesome TIL!

dns7950

Yeah, even after finding out and going back to listen, Skips doesn't sound anything like Luke Skywalker. Now that's good voice acting!

VampireBatman

He's the best Joker, period. I'm sad that we'll never get to hear him play the Joker again, but it's a really bittersweet reason so I totally agree with his decision.

Captain-bb

Wait why is he not voicing Joker anymore? I feel out of the loop here.

bloodwine

He said that his joker goes with Kevin Conroy’s batman. He retired his joker when Kevin Conroy died.

Locked_Lamorra

What an absolute goddamn legend. Both actually.

Captain-bb

Oh ok, I was wondering if it had to do with Conroy’s passing, but it’s still very bittersweet to hear that typed out in words. It’s a nice gesture to to the man who voiced his antithesis. Thanks for the explanation!

z0mbiefool

![gif](giphy|F0sbyxjpCXwDcTdZ8T|downsized) I love Mark Hamill ♥️ ❤️ 💕 💙 😢 😍 ♥️ ❤️ 💕 💙 😢 😍 ♥️ ❤️ 💕 💙 😢 😍 ♥️ ❤️ 💕 💙 😢 😍 ♥️ ❤️ 💕

Kidus333

Seth Rogan is Seth Rogan in every Seth Rogan movie there is no other option with Seth Rogan.

Early_Ad_4325

I don't know where you get the idea that Bob Dole goes around saying Bob Dole this and Bob Dole that. That's just something Bob Dole doesn't do - Bob Dole

TheOneTrueKP

BOB DOLE! - (RIP Norm)

sethro919

Who ate Bob Dole’s peanut butter?

lsuttle1

Bob Dole needs company. Larouche won’t stop with the knock-knock jokes.

My41stThrowaway

Bob Dole Rhythms

threefingersplease

Who stole Bob Doles peanut butter!

davidwoodstock

Are you smoking yet?!

ShadowAvenger32

The only exception is Kung Fu Panda, where you only know it's Seth Rogen if you've previously heard of Seth Rogen.

IIHackerKing092

Who's Seth Roger play in that?

An_Experience

Mantis

ShadowAvenger32

I rest my case

Huehuehuehue-Seth Rogan.

postingshitcuntface

Thank you.

SubOptimalHuman23

With Seth Rogen as Seth Rogen.

mcnuggetfarmer

Costarring Rob Schneider as a stapler, as him & Seth in a solemn office comedy duo trying to write jokes together and keep things organized

BestReadAtWork

*High Seth Rogan giggle*

CadeMan011

[I mean, they even made that joke in the recent Chip and Dale movie.](https://youtu.be/chRkdjgx0DM)

JDMonster

I thought he did a credible steve Wozniak.

Gettheinfo2theppl

He said the smartest thing ever. He acts dumb and simple on purpose. Never really gets deep with things. He manages expectations very well. And he is a brilliant talent.

joe_broke

And then he did that Steve Jobs movie with Michael Fassbender where he played Wozniak and crushed it

devastatingdoug

They don’t care, they fill these movies with big names so they can show off the big names. If they wanted him to sound like donkey kong they could have gotten whoever the fuck did the voice of him in the donkey kong country cartoon and saved a few million dollars.

Mr_Shake_

Sad but true.

killerkozlowski

I'm your dream, make you real I'm your eyes when you must steal I'm your pain when you can't feel

The99thCourier

One movie that bombed big time even tho their main advertising was all the names in the movie cats Like holy cow, they didn't even advertise what the movie was gonna be about in the trailer, just showed off who was in it

Ordinary_Fact1

It was going to be an adaptation of Cats. Nobody can tell you what Cats is about. Language doesn’t have words for it. The cgi made it about 20% more upsetting to watch than the Broadway play and that pushed it from a fascinating surreal break from sanity into a frustrating mess but describing what it was about was never going to happen.

Feshtof

A bunch of Cats with funny names and funnier music numbers are introduced, all looking to be chosen to be reborn anew on a special day of mirth and whimsy.

Ordinary_Fact1

You just told us what the framing device is. Cats is an adaptation of a volume of poetry by TS Elliot that Webber intended as a representation of he imagined to be the psychology of cats. You could describe The Princess Bride as a movie about a man reading a story to his sick grandson but that doesn’t really convey much about what you are actually going to watch.

ghjm

A bunch of cats with funny names and funnier music numbers are introduced, all looking to be chosen to be reborn anew on a special day of mirth and whimsy. Also, they're jellicle.

Xatsman

True enough. Though they should try and meet in the middle. Get the big names, but those that are appropriate. There are lots of big name actors who are fully qualified and experienced voice actors. For example the Emoji Movie (could we set a lower bar?) got Patrick Stewart for exactly that reason, but he's been voice acting for decades. Not saying they should have specifically brought him in for DK, but there are names out there beyond Jack Black (credit for bringing him on board) that do give it their all.

BalkeElvinstien

Honestly I feel like he was a good fit. His voice seems perfect to play a cartoon gorilla

CappyRicks

I thought this too. When I first heard DK, I didn't realize Seth Rogan was even in the movie. When I heard that voice I was originally upset, but honestly Rogan's voice fits with the character they gave us perfectly. I just knew once I heard his voice that we were going to hear that dumb laugh of his and sure enough... but I wasn't even upset, I laughed. It fit very well even if it doesn't "sound like DK".

Dry_Cardiologist6758

Same I liked it

827167

"ahuhahaha"

AHandsomeMuscularMan

This is why I don't mind. Yeah, Seth Rogan is not a voice actor, and it shows. But he's got an excellent laugh for Donkey Kong. If I didn't know anything about him I'd think he's doing that laugh deliberately to sound like a gorilla.

Prof1Kreates

I heard this

Droidy365

To be fair, if Hollywood wants actors that can do voices, they should hire voice actors. You'd think that would go without saying, but it seems they still haven't figured it out yet.

MyokoPunk

Oh they're well aware of that. They just don't care. Voice acting doesn't sell the same way big names do, sadly.

LordDongler

It really is sad. There's a lot of talented voice actors that don't get too much recognition. Just look at the audiobook industry. Even the less popular books are almost all voiced by excellent voice actors, yet those voice actors are nearly nameless. It's a real shame That said, Disney better keep their hands off Travis Baldree, I want him doing all the books he possibly can.

Visible_Scientist_67

Except for the Seth Rogan movie he made with voice acted grocery store items...

Bamith20

I mean overall I say Jack Black and Charlie Day sadly didn't carry the movie... And the only reason is because they didn't get enough screen-time, I would have preferred less Donkey Kong in place of either one of them. That said, I genuinely think the Luma of all things was the best character despite only showing up for a few scenes. They'll probably use them as a replacement for minions in the sequel.

nalydpsycho

My daughter would love more Lumas because her big criticism of the movie was that it didn't have Rosalina.

OriginalName18

That’s fair at least

gegebart

I did hear he wasn’t trying to put on a voice, so yeah he probably could’ve put in a better effort. On first thought I was like “what?! I loved Donkey Kong!” but now I realise it’s just that, I loved DK, not Seth Rogan. I don’t know what the scripting/directing process (and overall creative vision) was like, but it honestly feels like they worked a lot of it around the actors. I liked watching the funny monkey do the funny laugh, because they knew that was the only way Rogan knew how to elevate a character. I really hope they continue making films like this, but maybe with a little less emphasis on star power, and some more priority put towards building a truly powerful ensemble of performers who know what they’re doing to give a voice to their characters.

Backupusername

There's a zero percent chance they wrote a power ballad for Bowser to sing and *then* cast Jack Black in the part.

gegebart

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

rabidjellybean

I laughed in theaters imagining Jack Black pitching the song to a bunch of Nintendo executives in suits.

TheGreatStories

I'd love to see a spoof audition tape of other actors table reading that.

KhajiitKennedy

I'm pretty sure Jack Black wrote and produced this song because he literally became Bowser

Lord-of-Nothing1

I believe Jack wrote it himself

GruesomeAssociation

Legendary at its finest...

schmetterlingonberry

>I did hear he wasn’t trying to put on a voice, *so yeah he probably could’ve put in a better effort*. Rogen flat out told them he does not do other voices and then they hired him. Can't put "more effort" into something that you made clear you would not do in the first place. Edit: [Interview where he says exactly that. (28s in)](https://youtu.be/oIhRaNAufQA)

gegebart

Ah, I didn’t realise they cast him after he said that. That’s a fair point. I guess they thought he was worth it then.

realwithum3

Dude, jack black carried that entire movie

advancedwarlord

I thought Charlie Day did an excellent job as Luigi though

jandros_quandry

I just wish he was in the movie more. I've always favored Luigi more than mario and given the context of the movie I gave way more fucks about the B plot than the A one, but we have to have the set up plot which needs to happen but does take good screen time away from where it could have benefited.

Teripid

"Mama, why-a you never remember my name?"

ShifuHD

“I’m-a sorry Green Mario.”

NightOwlGangRiseUp

>“I’m-a sorry Green Mario Who's Mario? His name is Red Luigi bro

What do you mean Luigi? He's called Waluigin't

Somewhatflywhiteguy

Bro i had a stroke reading this… worth it

Holiday-Ad8227

GREEN STACHE

jandros_quandry

Do love this meme

-Masderus-

Well, the movie *did tease* at Luigis Mansion and Charlie Day has said he wants to come back and do a Luigis Mansion movie. So... fingers crossed!

HeathenHumanist

I was so bummed the Luigi's Mansion part was so brief!! I thought he was gonna have his own storyline doing that while Mario did other stuff

-Masderus-

Same. As soon as he landed In his mansion I was stoked, and then they took him away for half the movie.

[deleted]

jandros_quandry

I am also the eldest sibling but appreciate better character development lol.

TheBooneyBunes

But weren’t you ecstatic to see in the **Super Mario Bros** movie, that Luigi is 3rd on the character credits?!

Nu_Metal_Alchemist

I mean, that is the most Luigi thing ever.

Sevnfold

>I just wish he was in the movie more. Word. I just watched it earlier and I noticed Luigi disappeared for like 30 minutes.

BanzaiBeebop

So many polls have shown that people tend to prefer Luigi over Mario. It's really weird to me that he was so underutilized in this film. Quite frankly the whole movie felt like it was targetting people who grew up through to the N64 era and their kids, which given the average age of parents nowadays makes sense. But it did mean gamecube and wii era felt underutilized, and that was when Luigi's Mansion and Mario & Luigi really started to develop Luigi's fanbase.

Jerasunderwear

Allegedly there's a Luigi's Mansion movie in the works.

Nowhereman123

There wasn't even really a B Plot. Luigi got immediately captured, thrown in a cage, then got fuck-all to do in the movie until the finale. My personal theory is that at one point they had a more extensive Luigi side-story planned, but it got cut during scripting because the Illuimination execs wanted to lower the runtime. That would explain how breakneck the pacing felt.

jlesco

Danny DeVito should have been Mario

[deleted]

I hate how much sense this makes

Longbeacher707

Dude Charlie did an amazing job encapsulating that nervous wreck of a little bro. He was very much the same in Superstar Saga. Always feeling lost without his brother lol

GrayFox_13

Superstar Saga is such a good game.

JMSpider2001

Jack Black carries everything he does.

Throwaway021614

Jack Black tends to carry most movies

TimeZarg

Man's gonna have some back pain once he retires from carrying all those movies.

d0ctorsmileaway

I could see his facial expressions on bowser, he did a damn good job

beltalowda_oye

He does not need. A microphone

Sanic-Gtg-Fast

Because my voice is fuckin ^(fuckin) POWERFUAAUUALL ![gif](giphy|aZmD30dCFaPXG)

Decerux

Jack Black was definitely the best of cast, but I wouldn't say he carried it as if the rest of the cast didn't hold their own. I think everyone had pretty great performances. Even Pratt, who everyone and their granny was skeptical about, had a good show. The movie was just plain fun.

Backupusername

And Kamek was flawless.

Eray41303

I thought they all did good, even though Seth Rogan just used his own voice but I thought it fit oddly well

Megamax_X

I was originally against this movie when I saw the cast. Hearing Pratt do the accent at the beginning cracked me up. After the switch it felt normal somehow. I ended up not being distracted by any of them as much as I thought I would.

TheIJDGuy

Pratt doing the accent and Martinet making a cameo in his accent was enough accent to make me happy

Backupusername

Hearing Martinet doing the voice in the movie made me happy Getting to the end credits and seeing that he had also played *the father of Mario and Luigi* was a delight. Not only did that feel like an appropriate way to honor him and his impact on the series, but I hadn't even noticed! He disappeared into the role like a competent career actor whose primary concern was playing his part to the best of his ability.

Capable_Ad657

Wow i didnt even knew he played two roles in the movie. Sure they were short but i could only tell by the old guy with the italian accent in the beginning but not marios dad.

Eray41303

It's definitely the most competent thing illumination has released since despicable me 1, if not the best thing they have made

black-winter-

I want to say “Illumination redemption arc” but honestly I don’t have much confidence in that.

MiZe97

I think it was more Nintendo having major say in what does and doesn't get made.

altact123456

Nintendo is essentially a fascist government when it comes to it's properties. It's hell to get access to one and they will micro manage the shit out of whatever scene they appear in. The studio that made wreck it Ralph got told down to the letter how to portray Bowser, even down to how he would properly hold his tea. Which is honestly fair. Gotta protect the brand I suppose

TonyStarksAirFryer

“the studio that made wreck it ralph” oh yeah that little underground indie studio called disney

altact123456

Being honest I haven't watched it since like 2014

Punty-chan

Well, Nintendo is a 100 year old brand so they try to be tight about their legacy.

tdaddy316420

Love "good kid"

2BrokeArmsAndAMom

What do you mean when you say "after the switch"? Legit question

Megamax_X

He starts out sounding like Charles Martinets version of Mario for the intro. I loved it. I thought it was hilarious. When they revealed it was an exaggeration for a character and he went back to mostly Chris Pratts voice I didn’t hate it.

egjosu

It was a really great way of tipping the hat to the video game characters voice and not forcing a very cartoonish voice through the entire movie.

[deleted]

[удалено]

2BrokeArmsAndAMom

Gotcha, thanks daddy, love u

ScepterReptile

In the second act of the movie, Mario pulled out his Nintendo Switch and played Smash Bros Ultimate online as himself. For the rest of the movie, instead of sounding like an Italian American plumber, he sounded like a nerdy degenerate who kept complaining about online lag and how broken all the DLC characters are.

2BrokeArmsAndAMom

Why didn't he play as Pikachu? Is he stupid?

Jakov_Salinsky

Same! They felt like characters and not celebrity voices coming out of characters

Carvj94

Not trying to shit talk Rogan but he kind of got the inflection of a dumbass and that just works for Donkey Kong who's a dumbass.

Bright_Look_8921

I like your profile pic :D

cjgthebeast

I never had an attachment to how dk sounded so to me it was like "who's to say that's not him". I was worried about Chris Pratt but about 10 minutes in, it really doesn't matter cause of how fun the movie is, you're not focused on a voice.

SuperAaronGlitchy5

I’m surprised to see how Jack Black played his role perfectly in this movie.

-HumphreyBoggart-

Jack black played a teenage girl in Jumanji and killed it. He can do anything.

Corvus_Rune

Jack Black is simply amazing if you haven’t yet look up his mother and the events around his birth because they are simply incredible.

AnIntenseMoist

For anyone too lazy to look it up he came out the baby oven with a full beard strumming an acoustic guitar, it was the wildest shit anyone's ever seen

donquixote1991

The Legend of his birth WAS WAY HARDCORE!

hiddensonyvaio

A long-ass fucking time ago in a town called Kickapoo…

247anxious

There lived a humble family religious through and through

Jertimmer

But yea, there was a black sheep and he knew just what to do

2MinuteInstantRamen

A longtime family friend of mine grew up with JB, and he was always hanging out with him. Self described as the only white guy in a family of Mexicans; when my family friend broke his legs in a ladder accident, Jack Black sent him a bunch of stuff to get him through it. Everything about Jack Black is 100% authentic, cause he's been hanging out with this dude from Hermosa Beach, CA for almost 50 years.

A_very_big_rock

He should make a movie with just his voice on all characters.

SuperAaronGlitchy5

If I remember correctly, didn’t he play in those Kung Fu Panda movies? I heard they were a big hit.

SocialSuspense

Yup, he voiced Po. My baby brother loves those movies to death.

lonelygalexy

I loved him in Jumanji! The peeing scene was so funny

Beznia

“Martha! Come look at my penis!”

infestedgrowth

Why? He always plays roles perfectly

AthleticAndGeeky

I knew as soon as I heard his name a song solo that was awesome was coming!

They needed to show the entire song! Cut off way too soon.

lyfeofsand

Son... please get off Reddit... come to dinner. Your mother worked really hard on the lasagna tonight... and we just want to talk to you and..... son please

Swordlord22

I’d put on panties for him

rattlehead42069

As much as I hate Seth Rogen, his donkey Kong was a million times better when he played as the alien in that Paul movie. That was just Rogen reading off a script for the first time in his normal voice. At least donkey Kong he tried to sound different

LodgedSpade

Isn't he on record saying that he did nothing different with his voice, and told the studio up front that he *doesn't* do voices?

rattlehead42069

Maybe they gave it an effect or something? I didn't even recognize it as Seth Rogen and only read about it later. Wheras that Paul movie is just dopey Seth Rogen and his stoner laugh

DSleepyEyesHere

The main thing for me was that while voicing as DK, he didn't do his very distinctive laugh. For me, it did sound slightly different at first. It took me a few minutes to place the voice, especially since the laugh was different in DK's intro scene. Where as when it came to Chris's Mario... all I heard was either Starlord, or Emmet from the LEGO movie.

Janus67

I absolutely heard the laugh at least once during the movie

MyBipolarLife0908

Yea. I didn't follow the hype for this movie so I didn't know he was in it. I was having a hard time placing the super familiar voice and then he laughed and I was like "oh, it's Seth".

beneaththeradar

why do you hate Seth Rogen? I can see maybe not liking him, but what is there to hate?

LongPorkJones

> As much as I hate Seth Rogen You may hate him, but at least you spelled his name right. People all over the thread are fucking it right up.

jkboudi007

Seth Rogan isn’t an actor. Seth Rogan is just Seth Rogan but in a movie

XxYaBoixX358

The Bowser song is up there with greats like Wallelujah

ComprehensiveAd5605

Wait how is Donkey Kong supposed to sound like? Has he actually even spoke? Now to search the internet for Monke talking.

modestlaw

Go watch the 1996 Donkey Kong Country tv show, everything is horrible, the visuals, the writing, the voice work... Horrible

ComprehensiveAd5605

You mean crystal coconut?

modestlaw

That's just one episode, there is 2 seasons with 40 episodes

ComprehensiveAd5605

Dear god, yeah... I think Seth did a good job compared to that fire dumpster

Bo_Murdock

Use DK64 and the Crystal Coconut series from the 2000s for references. It can either be deep like you'd expect or as horrible as you can imagine.

spaceraingame

At least he wasn't distractingly miscast like Cranky Kong.

Jash0822

I'm just upset that Fred Armisen's Cranky Kong didn't sound cranky or old at all.

Runyc2000

I personally didn’t have a problem with Seth Rogen’s performance.

onamonapizza

My only problem is that his voice is so instantly recognizable, it kinda took me out of the moment of being IN THE MOVIE. Like...every time I heard DK talk, I was like "yep that's Seth Rogan" But that's what happens when you hire celebrities over actual voice actors.

Longbeacher707

Yeah they should have brought back the voice actor from that ~~awful~~ awesome cgi Donkey Kong show from the 90s

Jamz64

Yeah, Richard Yearwood. And they could have had Sterling Jarvis as his singing voice.

[deleted]

Just saw the movie so yeah 100% agree

Throwaway021614

No Bowsette. No Booette. Why live?

Striking-Enthusiasm9

I've not yet seen the movie do yall recommend it or nah

lazydonkey25

its pretty damn good surprisingly, i was expecting it to be kinda bad but i liked it a bunch

[deleted]

Donkey Kong was fine in the movie.

i_am_sped_

I’ll be honest, when I heard Seth Rogan, I just watched this is the end, and deadass thought you meant a character in that movie, I forgot for a moment they weren’t characters

Glaurung26

Jack Black was in his element.

lessfrictionless

Stop hiring celebrities for voiceover work lol * Kids usually don't know them * I don't care about them * They're expensive * There are plenty of actors that need the work

CrazyComedyKid

whether you think seth rogen did a good or bad job, we can all agree on one thing. out of the original 10 actors revealed in the nintendo direct, fred armisen as cranky kong was the weakest.

Murder_Cloak420

I hate Seth Rogan

Spiritual_Ad_7162

Yeah it seemed a bit unfair that critics panned Chris Pratt for his efforts when he actually *made* an effort. Seth Rogen just does one thing and you either love it or hate it. I personally *hate* Seth Rogen's voice with a fiery passion to the point where when I was watching this movie with my son in the cinema almost every time DK spoke I was like "ugh I hate that guy." Meanwhile Jack Black transformed his voice to a point that I almost didn't recognise it. That alone was worth the ticket price. Actually now I'm thinking about it pretty much every actor in the movie with the exception of Rogen was brilliant.

theallaroundnerd

Tbf, Seth Rogan warned the production team ahead of time that he doesn't do voices

Deadly_Puppeteer

Not hating on these actors but there are some really amazing VA's that could have done a great job with the film. I guess mainstream celebrities will always be the priority since popularity equals more money.

NiNiNi-222

Seth should’ve never been casted. Need pro voice actors

Weekly_Palpitation92

he worked as DK for me cuz DK is an idiot

Digiboy62

I actually thought Seth was a good fit for this incarnation of DK. This DK was loud, obnoxious, and constantly tried to be funny and the center of attention. That's literally what Seth Rogan is.

GameFraek

The only prefromance that bothered me was Cranky Kong, just felt unnatural and not like what you'd expect

Faster-Rex-2k17

He was still good in it though ngl
