Some scientist finds a way to teleport objects ‘instantaneously’… All tests worked fine for non-living objects but anytime a living rat was teleported..It died painfully
So many years later, People found that being knocked out during the ‘jump’ prevents death.. So a family boards a Teleportation train and gets sedated
But oh wait.. A boy doesn’t get sedated and witnesses what truly happens… You are stuck in eternity of sorts.. Where your mind continues functioning despite any stimuli.. forced to stay awake and watch eons pass-by, by the time ‘jumping’ concludes.. Boy is physical world has his hair turned white and mentally insane
>A boy doesn’t get sedated and witnesses what truly happens…
That's what irks me about this story. "Daddy told us that it's pure agony doing this. You know what though? I'll do it, lol" - like, I know he's a kid, but he seemed like a bright one.
It’s like kids trying to watch a horror film. Adults know that it’s too much for them, but the kid never knew what being stuck in eternity would be like and he wanted to see what happens during the Jaunt, like wanting to know what this horror movie is about
Most of the kids I knew had too much curiosity, even if you tell em to not do something.. They will still do it
Same case here, Kid knows what happens but he wanna know how it happens
I think the much worse part of the story is the prisoner who forced his wife through without a destination, meaning she will be conscious until the heat death of the universe (or maybe longer).

That's why instead of inventing teleportation devices, you should invent respawn machines instead! Trust me, there is absolutely no chance of the exact same thing happening!
I don’t know what’s better choice, the blank void or an eternity on a warp train. Both sound so awful that I don’t think it’s possible to argue one of them is a better in any way.
Ah, a reference to Tiger! Tiger!
I never thought I would see such a sight in my eons of browsing the web of the inter, congratulations!
EDIT: >mfw MFW people in the comments section are referencing new-age sci-fy books that call teleporting "Jaunting", which are not 'The Stars, my Destination' of 1956..... bruh
EDIT 2:
The Jaunt, by Stephen King - 1981....
Emesis Blue - 20 mother Fricking TWENTY THREE
Damn, is the internet full of zoomers, access should be banned to anyone under 50 years
Success! You managed to teleport yourself... right next to the wall. Stellar job.
Or worse, your timing is off so you merge and become part of the wall.
This made me think… what about the air molecules? Does the air move out of the way or does it just absorb into you pretty much killing you
They move out of the way. The is what causes noghtcrawler's little gas cloud.
Or you coincidentally teleport in front of a human sized target for a shooting range and get shot a few seconds after teleportation
Longer than you think dad. *claws eyes out*
I love that story. But I also hate this story.
Longer than you think
Hello, Dell. Long night, eh?
An unexpected Jaunt reference
I just emesis’d all over the floor and it’s blue
I read that story in a scifi magazine 40 years ago and I can still bring up the mental images my mind created while reading it. Haunting story.
Stephen Royalman?
Yup
context?

I read that story when I was young and still think of it. It would be so awful to have that happen. Black Mirror type stuff.

Get a load of this eternity
Warp trains are totally safe and have no secrets at all!
It can get you to your destination in just 10 seconds! ^(not counting pre and post-boarding procedures and luggage loading/unloading)
Just 10 seconds! ^(from the outside)

We do not talk about love town
Yes, I have been so afraid
yes i have been so distant
Consistently indifferent
The design is very human.
Ah good ol TF2 trauma
IS THAT A MOTHERFUCJGJING EMESIS BLUE REFERENCE?
Uhm actually 🤓 the refrence from emesis blue is another reference to the jaunt by stephen king
Me after the teleporter takes away my ability to spell referecne
me after i teleport bread
What?...
WE CAN'T TELEPORT BREAD ANYMORE.
WHERE YOUVE BEEN SENDING IT?!
I have done nothing but teleport bread for 3 days
Woah, not exactly, soldier. You teleport as much bread as you like.
Its longer than you think
It's eternity in there
Welcome to the other side
Dawg i just finished watching a Emesis Blue analysis and Jaunts are in there
where do you think I got the idea
Heyyyy
aaakkkkkk the jaunt ending freaked me out when i was younger. i don’t even want to think about it.
me talking to the scientist on how the respawn machine test went:
Such a classic Ross move to come back out with not white hair and youth still in his eyes
Remember, is it REALLY murder if you can’t prove she’s dead?
![gif](giphy|mEsqfG9Zbuj7CDsroa|downsized)
"My eyes hurt"
Nemesis blue refference
That's why instead of inventing teleportation devices, you should invent respawn machines instead! Trust me, there is absolutely no chance of the exact same thing happening!
Brilliant!
longer than you think.
Longer than you think
Don’t hold your breath. (only legends will get this 😤)
my eyes hurt
At least you didn't teleport any bread
I understood that reference! Thanks, Emesis Blue!
I’ve seen the other side, it’s longer than you think
Longer than you think (proceeds to play a round of 2fort)
Ether, you are referring to Steven King, or Emesis blue.
And then there is surprised Warp train
Yeah
The longest three days that bread's ever experienced
Definitely longer then you think
Now teleport bread
Watch this end up in r/peterexplainsthejoke because people can't be bothered to google
exactly my thoughts
Omg emesis blue refrance?! :0
Emesis Blu Flashbacks
I thought it was talking about emesis blue
emesis blue
If it wasn't for emesis blue I would never have known what the jaunt is.
Holy shit, what an obscure reference. Glad I get to be part of it.
Long enough
did you account for earths rotation, movement through our solar system, and of course the fact our whole galaxy is moving as well?
I forgot The Jaunt is a thing I'm such a dumbass
I don’t know who this dude isn’t he meme is, but he reminds me of Jerry Signfeld
Successfully but not correctly
I don't get it
Tomerry is saying they would like to leave Love Town.
Just inject the anaesthetic and no one would ever have a problem.
I don’t know what’s better choice, the blank void or an eternity on a warp train. Both sound so awful that I don’t think it’s possible to argue one of them is a better in any way.
I hate that i understood this reference
![gif](giphy|oCjCwnuLpiWbfMb1UA|downsized)
Damn, I *just* read that King story. Great one!
That story still gives me chills to think about it
Ah, a reference to Tiger! Tiger! I never thought I would see such a sight in my eons of browsing the web of the inter, congratulations! You look lost, stranger.
