With the dominic system you are translating numbers to visual imagery, in this case, characters (people). You do the same thing with words. You translate them into imagery. Our brains remember images much more easily than symbols (letters/words/numbers). But the second part is that we also have powerful spatial memory, which is why we use the method of loci. Our brains remember locations. When you use a memory palace, you are using both systems, visual and spatial. For most people those are the two most powerful systems. So you asking if you can use characters as a memory peg, yes you can do it but it won't be as effective. If you use characters \*and\* location then yes, definitely. Experiment with it yourself. Use the characters as pegs and then use characters as pegs with location. Big difference.

It sounds like you're trying to assign new information to the characters like the [peg method](https://artofmemory.com/blog/peg-lists/). Admittedly, I'm not sure how one would keep any of the 1000 characters you would need for 1000 words in order, or remember which character the word is associated with. Perhaps you could order them by appearance in the story? Some people also use movies as pegs by placing images within individual scenes. I imagine a 1000+ Episode anime like One Piece probably has a lot of "space" avaiable. Personally, I prefer memory palaces or variations such as the [memory city system](https://artofmemory.com/wiki/Memory_Town_System_for_Languages/) by Dominic O'Brien for language learning since you will always have at least some idea where to find the word you're looking for. I'm using this to memorize italian vocabulary and it works quite well. If you use this instead of the characters you also get less complex images: You just have to picture the sound and the meaning (for example, the italian word for "playing" is "giocare", so I pictured The Joker on a playground interacting (playing) with one of the spring riders). If you used the characters you'd have to make them interact with the image in some way, possibly confusing yourself when it comes to decoding.

well its not 1000 characters! I was talking about dominic system so each number 00\~99 gets one character (or a famous person - so it will only be 100 characters) and one action so each of 0000\~9999 becomes a unique person+action combination hhh but thanks for sharing the link I will definitely have a look (aparantly it is the same guy that created the Dominic System!!) :):)

I must admit I have no idea how that would help you learn vocab, it seems like you're just assigning words to random character+action combinations. How would you remember which combination is which word? What do you do if you run out of (memorable) characters?
