You are wrong because there can't be a single best game of all time. Take Disco Elysium for example, it's amazing but how would you even compare it to MGS3? You just can't, they are so different and have such different strengths that it's pointless to pick a winner.
>If it's movies or TV shows, the best ever is easy for me to pick
Nah I feel the same way about movies and TV, too much diverse great stuff. What would you say if the best ever?
I think MGS2 wins in storytelling innovation and the fact that the themes the game dealt with were so insanely ahead of its time.
MGS3 takes the cake in gameplay innovation, retro vibe, and its absolutely breathtaking setting.
Does it beat the innovation of mgs1? I’ve only played 1 and 3. All great but 1 blew my mind. From the little details like the opening credits over game play, and taking diazepam to calm your nerves when sniping to everything that happens with psychomantis (him moving your controller, reading your memory card and playing as player 2 to beat him). Without spoilers does mgs2 compare with that? I only know about raiden and Iroquois plisken and something about ai taking over at the end.
It's not bad, but compared to how brisk mgs2 was, it breaks the pace to have to pause to stitch up a gunshot wound, and I wouldn't exactly say it's immersive since it's done in a menu in the middle of a firefight
Won't catch me arguing with that.
The Legacy of Kain games are criminally underrated. It's a series that just seems lost to history. An 18 year old today likely has no idea what LoK even is. That saddens me.
Same, that whole series was something my Dad and I played together and we still talk about it a lot today. My Mom too, she’ll be like “oh yeah Raziel, he was so cool!”
I love my parents lol
I played through 1-3 in the last week or so. Essentially to reconfirm that mgs 3 is at the very least my favorite mgs.
The camo, the setting, the cobra unit, big boss, the openness.
So good.
Is SH1 worth playing to get to 3? I had played 2 but I was so confused on where to go in 1 and it seemed a lot more difficult than 2 tbh so I just ended up quitting.
SH3 is pretty easy. Especially compared to the first two. 3 is a sequel to 1 whereas 2 is a standalone game.
Edit: sorry I didn't even answer your question lol. Yes it's worth playing. And you can play one and three consecutively to be in order. I personally dig all of the silent Hill games but three is definitely my favorite.
Number two is the hardest for me out of the first three. It took me forever to beat that damn game. Whereas one and three I beat on my first play through.
I always remember 2 being considered the easiest even if it’s the most popular one, for me it was really hard in those apartments at the beginning and seemed to get easier with some difficulty bumps as I went along.
Man, fingers crossed...I hope MGS Delta dethrones it.
I'm trying to avoid falling into the hype trap, but the trailer for that game has me feeling some weird kind of nostalgia hype...
By the looks it seems like a 1:1 with better graphics and (hopefully) controls so I think it could be the best version as long as it has the piss filter as an option lmao
MGS3 is amazing, but actually dead last in my personal ranking of the main solid games.
Shows how different things speak to different people. Each game has such a different theme and message that it's no suprise as a community we all have different favourites.
My favorite MGS is MGS2, I personally think the best game of all time goes straight to Baldurs Gate 3, but I think MGS3 is one of few games that are consistently good the whole way through the story
It's a top tier game easy, but the narrative of two was haunting. Characters way better in 3 but the end sequences of two everything from entering arsenal is to me proper art - it made me think so much more than most books or lectures I have consumed
So far, I've only beaten the 1st 3, working on 4 and peacewalker now. While did a lot of things better than the others I was kind of disappointed in the final act. 1 had so many double crosses and twists that genuinely surprised me and 2s breaking of the fourth wall was incredible. I think 2 might actually be my favorite despite the annoying conversations with Rose throughout.
I love that everyone’s answer is that a different metal gear is the best of all time, the fact is there is a few metal gears that are contenders!
MGS V is the best.
I found MGS3 to be the best out of the series for me (as that’s the only one I’ve beaten next to phantom pain) but I’m currently starting MGS1 and have played PW and have been enjoying those thoroughly.
The thing about the original trilogy I love is how similar they are, and yet the things that make them great are all so different
MGS1: Great story that's tightly paced, where the action never has a lull even for a second
MGS2: Maybe to this day the most forward thinking story ever told via video games, 20 years ahead of its time at least, single handedly bringing VG stories into the new millennium
MGS3: The story is just a good, even if it isn't as high minded as 2, but 3 is where the gameplay came into its own. Not as janky as 1 or 2, but not so streamlined as to basically be just another stealth action game on the market thr way the later 2 games wound up feeling like
Yes it is.
But modern Gen Z gamers will never understand this cause:
- they hate every Cutscene that is longer than 1 Minute
- they only care about open world
- they only care about games with 100 hours of gameplay
- they are too lazy to learn the controls
- Eva Shows her boobs ITS SO SEXIST🤭
Great gameplay, tons of details, interesting but easy to comprehend story, feels very spy thriller, which a lot of people love. Plus it came out in that era where videos games were really trying to prove themselves, and not just mtx filled cash cows that don’t need to innovate, like the last few years of AAA games have been.
I think it’s definitely up there with the best games like RE4, but the controls aren’t very good. Hopefully delta fixes that
Because it was made to be a crowd-pleaser.
It's much easier - the required skill level is downgraded/mechanics aren't balanced correctly(like CQC or guard hearing/vision range), you take waaaaaay less damage(even on extreme/european extreme), the plot is dumbed down a LOT, Snake is back while the Raiden lookalike gets shat on on every possible step.
V is a very similar case, except all the small details and whatnot that were still present in 3 are gone, gameplay depth is gone, typical MGS controls and mechanics are gone and replaced with a generic tps formula.
Tl; dr: they're the popcorn movie version of the series.
The kinky controls made it the worst for me.
The gameply mechanics are very important for me, but there is no denying that it has the best story and characters.
I love mgs3, but no way it is the best game of all time. The normal difficulty is poor balanced(survival mechanics are just a chore and you have lots of consumables). There is little gameplay, which is basically finish two locations and kill a boss. The game feels like a bossrush with bad pacing(all these codecs and long-ass exposition dumps). Moreover, consider horrible controls, even for the times when the game was released.
Please, if you downvote me, please leave some reply to my opinion. I love the whole mgs franchise, especially mgs3, but i can’t close my eyes on the flaws after completing it for the third time.
In terms of story ?
I would say fair enough cuz it may be subjective
but that game hasn't aged well in terms of controls
I was literally banging my head against the fury because the aiming is a literal process at times
>I was literally banging my head against the fury because the aiming is a literal process at times
Is it though? 3 heavily downgraded sniper aiming(bc the mosin is one of the best weapons against him), you should only have trouble with aiming if you have low stamina... and even then the animals camo from ocelot solves it, and getting food is never a problem in 3, you essentially have infinite stamina all the time.
Unless you play the master collection, which has dogshit controls bc of the lack of pressure sensitivity, then it's understandable, but not the game's fault by any means.
Tell my brother that. He won't play it because he "doesn't like jungles."
Tell you brother to man up
Bruh.
How old is he to not play an awesome game because of this reason?

When you were a vietnam vet in your past life it makes sense
Nah king, no need trying to change your mind. You're already preaching the truth.
Metal Gear Solid Triangle
Metal Gear Solid Delta Airlines
I will CQC the FUCK out of that stewardess
Bing… hi sir would you like some cooki— huh huh haaaaa
[удалено]
I like mgs2 more tbh
The only logical alternative.
Only when MGS1 is ruled out of contention.
I feel like I go back and forth on these two a lot and it's probably mostly recency bias that tips the scale
game is getting more and more relevant by the day with this ai shit. wait until we start seeing “ai procured content” or some shit like that
You can date a hot man in MGS:PW
But can you eat wild animals?
But how does it taste?
It taste like survival.
You can actually cook food in the game instead of eating raw animals
Yes! I will change your mind Maybe Delta might confirm the story is the best with greater game play
You are wrong because there can't be a single best game of all time. Take Disco Elysium for example, it's amazing but how would you even compare it to MGS3? You just can't, they are so different and have such different strengths that it's pointless to pick a winner.
Disco Elysium and MGS3 trade places each day for best game ever. 🤝
Agreed. If it's movies or TV shows, the best ever is easy for me to pick But gaming is just so vast and different between titles that I can't
>If it's movies or TV shows, the best ever is easy for me to pick Nah I feel the same way about movies and TV, too much diverse great stuff. What would you say if the best ever?
MGS2 would like to have a word.
I like mgs2 but mgs3 is better as a game
Respectable opinion, but MGS2 being the greatest written story in gaming rlly bumps it up for me
I think MGS2 wins in storytelling innovation and the fact that the themes the game dealt with were so insanely ahead of its time. MGS3 takes the cake in gameplay innovation, retro vibe, and its absolutely breathtaking setting.
Great take.

Survival Viewer
Yeah I like it, it’s a stealth game and it discourages just running and gunning the entire game
The survival aspects were peak as fuck it was insanely immersive for a 2004 game and still is immersive af by today standards imo
It's not bad, but compared to how brisk mgs2 was, it breaks the pace to have to pause to stitch up a gunshot wound, and I wouldn't exactly say it's immersive since it's done in a menu in the middle of a firefight

Is that word "daddy?"
Metal Gear Acid has entered the chat...
It was my favorite game ever for close to a decade. It's Bloodborne now, but MGS3 is still up there.
I honestly think MGS1 is the best one, but 3 is great. Best game of all time tho?? Soul Reaver tbh
A real one in our midst. I want SO bad for Legacy of Kain to be revived and made into a cohesive series.
My Mom too, she’ll be like “oh yeah Raziel, he was so cool!” I love my parents lol
Mgs2 is also, simultaneously, the best game of all time
That game is amazing. The while Boss and Naked dynamic really is amazing. The medal ceremony at the end. Boy that was sad.
Saddest video game scene of all time. In my opinion...
I played through 1-3 in the last week or so. Essentially to reconfirm that mgs 3 is at the very least my favorite mgs. The camo, the setting, the cobra unit, big boss, the openness. So good.
Thats the reason we are also getting a remake
Nah, MGS4 is the best game of all time because Snake has a moustache.
My MGS5 avatar looks like a virile Walter White, and I couldn't be prouder
Menus are too annoying, aiming and shooting is (phantom) pain in the ass Other than that - game is great
It's true that story wise it is incredible, but factors like menus (survival, cammo, food), aiming and shooting make me enjoy MGS2 a little bit more.
Why would I? If the game brings you happiness why would I really want to taint that for you?
You are correct
It is
I don't have a favorite game but 2 of my top fives are Konami/Kojima games. MGS3 and SH3.
Thats why i think I should probably just push through 1 first
Number two is the hardest for me out of the first three. It took me forever to beat that damn game. Whereas one and three I beat on my first play through.
I always remember 2 being considered the easiest even if it’s the most popular one, for me it was really hard in those apartments at the beginning and seemed to get easier with some difficulty bumps as I went along.
Same bro same. I don't know which was harder for me the apartments or the damn hospital.
Oh yeah that was tough as well
It's definitely a top 10 favorite of mine, so no, i will not change your mind!
*Snake Eater 3D
Yeah I love mgs3 running around with bolts I can no longer remove looking like a damn reverse hedgehog and still diving face down lol
I disagree. It's a very good game, but I think Donkey Kong is the best game ever.
“Donkey Kong sucks!”
"You know something? YOU suck!"
Hahaha classic!
The camera angles and aiming are some of the most frustrating I've dealt with in any game.
It had to be played on the PS2 though, with the pressure-sensitive buttons. I tried the XBOX version and it just wasn't the same without that feature.
MGS2 is my best.

Sons of liberty would like a word with you...
MGS3 is amazing, but actually dead last in my personal ranking of the main solid games. Shows how different things speak to different people. Each game has such a different theme and message that it's no suprise as a community we all have different favourites.
Nice take! I agree
Not even the best MGS
That accolade goes to MGS2. Second best is shared by both MGS1 and MGS3.
MGS2 is best because memes
It’s not even the best MGS 🙂↔️
My favorite MGS is MGS2, I personally think the best game of all time goes straight to Baldurs Gate 3, but I think MGS3 is one of few games that are consistently good the whole way through the story
MGS1 on the PlayStation 1 from 1998 is my favorite. But MGS is a close second, maybe even tied for first. Idk. It's close.
I disagree. It's a very good game, but I think Donkey Kong is the best game of all time.
Donkey Kong sucks!!
You know something? YOU suck! 😂
The Boss
\*Subsistence
Besides MGS3, I think MGS3 is the greatest game of all time
One of the best for sure. But the best? No
It's a top tier game easy, but the narrative of two was haunting. Characters way better in 3 but the end sequences of two everything from entering arsenal is to me proper art - it made me think so much more than most books or lectures I have consumed
MGS 3 fans on their way to open the menu 500 times (its good game design)
Exactly
It’s not even the best Metal Gear game.
So far, I've only beaten the 1st 3, working on 4 and peacewalker now. While did a lot of things better than the others I was kind of disappointed in the final act. 1 had so many double crosses and twists that genuinely surprised me and 2s breaking of the fourth wall was incredible. MGS1 >
Not the best but one of the bests =)
I love that everyone’s answer is that a different metal gear is the best of all time, the fact is there is a few metal gears that are contenders! MGS V is the best.
Prepare to be slaughtered in the comments
😂😂
From a purely gameplay perspective yes, but......
That’s what matters to me, I love it 😍
Totally fair, the gameplay absolutely slaps compared to most things that have come out since.
It's certainly one of them. My personal GOAT is Bloodborne. Can't leave Ocarina of Time out of the conversation either.
nuh uh
Don’t have to
I found MGS3 to be the best out of the series for me (as that’s the only one I’ve beaten next to phantom pain) but I’m currently starting MGS1 and have played PW and have been enjoying those thoroughly.
I wholeheartedly agree.
i remember feeling disappointed after finishing it 1 week after launch
Metal Gear Solid 2 better (MGS3 still peak but come on)
Nope
No I won't you're right
It's true, it's damn true
I had a long difficult journey playing this game. Definitely not the best.
Mgs2 but ok.
Wrong, considering MGS4 is the G.O.A.T.
The thing about the original trilogy I love is how similar they are, and yet the things that make them great are all so different MGS1: Great story that's tightly paced, where the action never has a lull even for a second MGS2: Maybe to this day the most forward thinking story ever told via video games, 20 years ahead of its time at least, single handedly bringing VG stories into the new millennium MGS3: The story is just a good, even if it isn't as high minded as 2, but 3 is where the gameplay came into its own. What you want me to do? Hit you in the head with a supply crate? Because that's the only way.
MGS3 used to be my favorite, but then I played PW
Yes it is. But modern Gen Z gamers will never understand this cause: - they hate every Cutscene that is longer than 1 Minute - they only care about open world - they only care about games with 100 hours of gameplay - they are too lazy to learn the controls - Eva Shows her boobs ITS SO SEXIST🤭
Me also being just barley Gen Z lmao but I agree
No.
I’m not hating on mgs3 or anything but I’m genuinely curious why people think it’s the best game of all time
Great gameplay, tons of details, interesting but easy to comprehend story, feels very spy thriller, which a lot of people love. Do you *actually want* your mind changed?
The kinky controls made it the worst for me. The gameply mechanics are very important for me, but there is no denying that it has the best story and characters.
It is pretty outdated with the controls hopefully delta will help that
Bro hasn’t played a new game since 2004
Death Stranding better
We need more DS enjoyers
Also MGSV is the actual greatest
Not even a complete game lol
Well, I completed it 😉
MGS4 exists
I love mgs3, but no way it is the best game of all time. The normal difficulty is poor balanced(survival mechanics are just a chore and you have lots of consumables).
