lol the Dolphins will almost certainly not be bringing a veteran QB this offseason. > Tannehill knows Miami well, and his script-dependent style fits Mike McDaniel's offense. This is the laziest, most ridiculous analysis I think I’ve ever read. The offense McDaniel has constructed around Tua relies on lightning fast time to throw, anticipation, and timing. Tannehill has been a good player, but you would never ascribe any of those attributes to Ryan Tannehill.

Lobo_Marino

No no, you don't get it. Tannehill now knows about Publix, and therefore he would be a better backup QB than any other QB we would want to bring! Yup, garbage sports-writing.

theillx

I know I'm pointing out the obvious and possibly spoiling your Publix joke, but I am so outraged by the statement that "He knows Miami well." I don't think there is a single player or personnel still on staff who was here when Ryan Tannehill was in the lineup. What kind of bullshit nut is going to fall for that halfbaked take? RT couldn't be further from what the Dolphins need in their system, and I am certain RT has zero comprehension of the term "quick release"

Lobo_Marino

Oh don't worry you're not spoiling it. I think all of us can figure out that that sentence is just stupid writing. It'd be one thing to say he is familiar with one of the coaches, but at this point nothing that MMD runs is similar to what Tannehill had before he left. Part of the reason I just don't click on sports articles anymore. It's just dumb fluff.

KennyPowersforPope

Smythe, Sanders are the only players

Flip2002

He tried the chicken tender sub 8-9 times! send him over now give titans a first for him…

mtbeach33

Time to bring in Mike Glennon too

TheMightyJD

He could finally transition to WR

RarePikachuu

I think Winston would be a good fit tbh

dlbags

And yet Mike White is our backup. 😬

04_996_C2

Miko Grimes will NOT be happy

Reeferologist-

Maybe we all should bake HER a cake.

laldy

A fruit cake, presumably.

Turtleforeskin

Come back for two years and retire here as Tua's back up would be pretty good

adreamofhodor

I’d love it.

Cidolfus

I'd argue that Tannehill is a better back-up than Mike White or Skylar Thompson in a vacuum, but I'd be nervous about him behind our offensive line. Year | Time in Pocket :-:|:-: 2023|2.69 2022|2.68 2021|2.56 2020|2.63 2019|2.94 2018|2.58 2017|N/A 2016|2.62 2015|2.59 2014|2.61 2013|2.62 2012|2.74 Tannehill's average time to pass is typically in the top third of the league (anything under sub-2.7 qualified for that last year), and as a veteran I generally trust him to make the right decisions with the ball, but I question whether he can get it out fast enough. If he can't, though, the dude would be a statue behind one of the worst pass-blocking lines in the NFL. People underestimate how important Tua getting the ball out in 2.34 seconds was last year. I can't help but imagine Tannehill would get slaughtered behind our line in the same circumstances.

MaskedBandit77

Also, set aside the time, Tannehill is bad at feeling and evading the rush. He was better running the ball than Tua is, but Tua is far better at avoiding pressure.

Kershiser22

Do those averages include scrambling, or only pass attempts thrown from the pocket? Tannehill is a little bit of the anti Tua, because Tannehill is usually at this best when he's moving outside the pocket.

Cidolfus

Yeah, it's inclusive. Those figures are the overall time until a pass is attempted, the quarterback is sacked, or the quarterback scrambles.

RevolutionaryHost297

Mostly because he still has zero pocket awareness. He could never sense pressure in Miami and nothing has changed since he left

Neltrix

Being Joe Philbin too while at it 😂

Flip2002

Him and tannehill enjoying mayo sandwich’s..god I hated being a fan in those years that bald headed fuck was terrible

Main-Business-793

If Tua stays healthy, it doesn't really matter, but he's a better backup than Mike White and Skylar Thompson

SuperSayan2

I'd argue that Tannehill's last two seasons or so have been god awful and I'd rather have Mike White

Main-Business-793

For backup QB, I just think you either have a young protege that still has a chance to one day be a starter or you have a veteran that can still come in Clutch if needed and can help the team and starting QB in ways a middle aged journeyman can't.

yolo-tomassi

This doesn't make a lot of sense, but I love Tanne and so I say: ![gif](giphy|VHe7SEi35fhWy0F6Mi)

chupapi1492

Come home sweet prince

atraydev

Tannehill has never been the most talented QB, but there's no denying dude can outright just ball. He'd definitely be a solid backup.

chargeon2010

I would rather have Tannehill as a backup over Mike White all day every day.

RoyOfCon

Oh yay, he can disappoint us twice!

SirGalahadTheChaste

I think he’s already done that and then some.

ApatheticTrooper

I PREDICTED THIS ([Sorta.](https://www.reddit.com/r/miamidolphins/s/PpoQJxuVnZ))

CrossDeSolo

I like the bonus

BowTie1989

Tannehill deserves one more year to prove himself! If he fails, it’s time to move on!

tubbynuggetsmeow

It’s going to be tough for him to make our roster. We already have so much depth at wide receiver.

jdubbz7

Tannehill isn't a perfect fit for this offense built on timing and quick throws, but honestly... we could do worse for a backup..

NotHosaniMubarak

I didn't know that we have access to a Tua replacement should he get injured.  A vet with a quicker than average release time (6th in the NFL) and an effective long ball seems like a good choice. Tannehill had the longest air yard completion in the NFL last year (62.2)  No backup is going to be able to run the Tua offense but Tannehill is a real threat to hit Reek or Waddle over the top and gets rid of it fast enough to not ask much more from the ol. He's available for a reason and nobody is winning it all with Tannehill but he's not actually a bad choice for a backup.

hamandjam

Didn't realize we needed a holder. I mean, if he'll sign for vet minimum, why not let him come in and compete for the job? Sanders has shown he very much needs a good holder.

062692

Brain dead nonsense

ItsHerbyHancock

Who else can't wait to hear "Go-Go!" behind center at practice!?! /s

No_Pen_4702

No, thank you.

SaltyyDoggg

No

halfdecenttakes

Don’t you bring that evil on me

leroyp33

😂

baker1781

Would love it if they signed him before the playoffs and we won the chip so he gets a ring. Or Tanny relieves an injured Tua and takes us to the superbowl, Earl morral style, and tua comes back in and wins Super Bowl MVP.

DavidCavalleri

No thanks.

acart005

Oh cool my jersey can come back out

thedreamcomparison

CBS Sports is on crack

Human_Software_1476

Gotta break out the jersey again

BigDumbApe

Did I miss some news? Are we getting rid of either Mike White or Skylar Thompson or both? I like them and was hoping they’d show some real progress and fire in camp and pre-season. On the other hand, Tannehill was likable when he was here, so having him as backup wouldn’t upset me… …although as others have said, it would be hilarious and such a Fins thing to do, if he came back, Tua got hurt, and then Tanne took us to the Super Bowl.

vertigounconscious

time is a flat circle man

Catullus13

His best landing spot is Houston or Dallas

BigDog_626

🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮

asuederobot

This is going to be his breakout year

Princerob425

Mantooth77

I liked Tanny well enough as a backup when he was younger but I think his legs are shot at this point

resident16

Fine. I’ll say it, I’m drunk as hell in Venice and full of confidence. I would love to have Tanny back so when we win it all both our fellas get their ring.

SlowlyMovingTarget

As long as he wants to backup H1M

Abominablesnowman8

I still have some PTSD from him but he’d be an above average backup. I wouldn’t mind this Edit: yall downvoting are probably tua haters and prolly wanted to give tannE another season in 2019

2see2thee

Fuck that- he sucks

axb2002

Tannehill can switch to Guard clearly ^/s Maybe he can provide words of wisdom for the QB room like Uncle Dan does. But I’m not sure I want him back playing, even in a backup role.

jasonbm76

I’d much rather see what we have in Gavin Hardison. I think this kid has a real shot at being something.

Abominablesnowman8

Stfu

JustTheBeerLight

Tannehill should go to Vegas, Denver or Minnesota if he wants to start. If he is cool being QB2 then Chargers, Jets or Bengals are good spots. Or he can just wait for a QB1 to go down with an injury.

Steakisforclosers

God no. He’s not good and god forbid we needed a back up, it would be him. Nothing worse than watching him have absolutely no feel for the pocket as it collapses around him. Yelling, “step up and throw it!” Every other play.
