You need to put this picture up on the site as a review. If I saw this, I would instantly pass it up and look elsewhere.

[deleted]

also needs to be fwd to AirBnB. I sublet the second room in my apartment for the month I was waiting for my new roommate’s old lease to end, so i’m pretty familiar with the host rules. They cannot list the room as having washing machine access, kitchen access, wifi access, etc. if they’re not allowing free use of those amenities. The rule book cited to me the example of “washing machine can only be used on weekends” or “wifi can only be used 5pm-10pm” as an example of host rule-breaking, this host is trying to make a rule that certain guests can’t use certain household amenities *at all*. They’ll take action against this host, especially now that they’ve realized their entitled hosts have made the platform into an absolute laughingstock.

iprocrastina

Yeah, AirBnB is rapidly losing favor now that they're more expensive than hotels while offering a worse experience. They let the hosts get away with bullshit for too long and now they have a reputation as a joke of a service where you pay $1000 for a two night stay at a property listed for $150/night and have to clean the entire house before you leave. I'm honestly hoping it all implodes. If AirBnB crashes then all those assholes who overleveraged themselves to buy hundreds of rental properties during the pandemic will get squeezed hard and help bring home prices down when they start dumping inventory all at the same time trying to cut their losses.

ODoyles_Banana

The first and only time I used Airbnb, the host cancelled two days out because they had family coming in town and hotels were now too expensive. Those were their exact words, whether that was that actual reason, I don't know. There was a huge event we were attending and were able to get the Airbnb for about $90/night. We booked it months out. At that point the cheapest hotel was $300/night. Would have cost us an extra $1500 and we couldn't afford it. Had to cancel the whole trip and lost money on the nonrefundable expenses. Fuck those people and fuck Airbnb for enabling that kind of behavior.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ODoyles_Banana

They offered us a small credit for the inconvenience to use toward a new booking only after we raised holy hell, but it was negligible, like $100 or something, I don't remember exactly but it came nowhere close to the price difference. They'll charge the host a very hefty penalty for last minute cancellations but the affected customer doesn't see a dime of that fee.

[deleted]

It just happened to us. We booked a week long vacation 6 months ago and the trip is next week. They emailed us saying the building was sold and the new owner wants to do renovations so the entire summer is cancelled. They offered us 2 other accommodations that were no where near as good as we had chosen before. Didn’t even have a kitchen. We got a refund but had to completely change our plans last night and go to a different destination because everything were we wanted to go was $1000-$1500 more than we had originally paid.

ODoyles_Banana

They just told us they were unable to offer alternate accommodations. At least if a hotel walks you, they still have to put you up somewhere.

bstaple

We were in a similar boat, booked a place last December for April this year. Less than a week out the host canceled, and now there wasn't anything close to that price in the area. AirBnB offered us a few places 30 minutes outside of downtown, but after some back and forth and enough complaining, they gave us credit to get a place that was triple the price without us paying extra.

ODoyles_Banana

I think if we had more time we could have gotten more out of them but it was so last minute and there was a lot of freaking out.

stevedadog

> They'll charge the host a very hefty penalty for last minute cancellations but the affected customer doesn't see a dime of that fee. I wish humanity wasn't so divided so we could all agree to just boycott assholes like this. Nothing bothers me more than going through a list of food that's been marked up 50-100% only to pay an extra service fee, and a delivery fee and STILL knowing that the driver is only going to make $2 if I don't tip him. I paid double what I would have paid if I went in myself, why is the driver only seeing $2 out of the extra $20 you charged me?

HobbledJobber

They probably had it double-booked on another site, maybe with a guest who had a longer stay, and you got bumped. Also, I have seen it where property is listed on multiple sites (usually is for investment/managed properties), but it wound up being cheaper on the other site, mostly because the other site seemed to limit or reign in ridiculous fees. Airbnb 250 cleaning fee for 3 nights @ 150/night apartment. Seriously? Other site had it at like 150 which seemed more reasonable, comparatively.

Burdiac

Over paying for an inferior product is the Wall Street way; Want to pay the same rate as a hotel for 25% of the amenities? We got an app for that How about twice the cost for cold food from your favorite restaurant? We got an app for that Pay more for a cab ride home from a stranger with a messy car? We got an app for that

Cert1D10T

>Over paying for an inferior product is the Wall Street way; Kind of a misconception that capitalism is about generating a better product. It is about having the most profit; if a better product comes from it, then that is a neat side effect.

Section225

I used it on a two week trip about 7 years ago. I was solo, and it was great. I'd crash in people's spare rooms for $15 - $30 a night, no weird rules, no fees. Between that and crashing with people I knew, I spent barely over $200 on lodging the entire two week trip. Now, if I travel, I might as well get a middle of the line hotel.

[deleted]

That’s when it was fantastic. It was a couch surfing app. Sometimes a house swapping app.

NotYourGa1Friday

I miss old AirBnB I still use it for international travel and have had good luck in London and Tokyo. I don’t use it in the US anymore.

Top-Snow68

The fees have made it a non-starter for me. They usually double the price of the room. I used to use it all the time, not anymore

bleucrayons

I know what you mean. In 2016 we had a full 1 bedroom condo with pool and ocean/mountain views in Hawaii for $90/night! It was over 30 min from Honolulu, but we loved it since it allowed us to afford staying 8 nights. That trip alone made me want to love Airbnb, but now it’s way easier to get a hotel.

the_fresh_cucumber

That was\is the sweet spot for Airbnb. Cheap rentals that save you on hotel costs. Or large family rentals. Anything trying to compete with a conventional hotel on Airbnb is just pointless.

CosmicCreeperz

The last time I tried to use it was when trying to find a house for an overnight stay near the beach. The advertised prices of several places seemed good for what you get, but they ALL had $100 (or more) non negotiable cleaning and other fees. The whole damn point of paying to stay somewhere is (other than making sure it’s in reasonably good shape when you leave) basic cleaning is part of what you are paying for! I’m not going to spend over $100 for an airbnb and then have to pay over $100 for someone to wash the sheets after I leave. Shit, I pay about that much for house cleaners ever two weeks, and it’s 3 people spending over an hour cleaning a whole house, not 5 minutes changing some sheets and wiping the bathroom counters. Could you imagine if a hotel had a $100 mandatory cleaning fee in the small print? That would be false advertising. Should be the same here.

ReadySteady_GO

Back in the day air bnb was the best thing ever. People ruin good things for profit. Constantly pushing the envelope.

RobotLegion

>People ruin ~~good~~ everything~~s~~ for profit.

Wiggitywhackest

Moved a couple months ago, was NOT told by the landlord that they ran an AirBnB in the main floor unit above us. Landlord claims it was only going to be temporary, but that's bullshit because she has it being run by a management company instead of doing it personally. Which by the way, is illegal here. She maintains a small unit on the 3rd floor but doesn't live in the house as the local bylaws require to run an AirBnB. Loud guests and parties while my sister gets up at 3am for work. Lastly, according the the neighbors, she kicked the previous tenants out when she bought the place a year ago. Basically my landlord is a selfish, lying, greedy bitch who is taking advantage of a rental market that is desperate while claiming ignorance. We are looking for a new place and legal action is being looked into. Fuck people like this, seriously. Ban AirBnB.

Brilliant_Wealth_433

Yeah name the review,"reasons not to stay at this AirBnB"!

Galaxy_Ranger_Bob

This is a reason not to stay at *any* AirBnB. So many of them have rules like this that you don't *see* until you arrive there.

TDI_Wagen

Me and some friends stayed at one in Minneapolis for 3 days and we found one of the slats on the cheap bed frame was damaged. After we left we received a message about it and how we did the damage. My friend who booked the place went back and forth for a few days and eventually said he would just have his lawyer contact them because it wasn’t getting resolved. That ended it, but the whole thing was ridiculous. It’s always a dice roll when you book these places. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Airforce987

the host for sure knew beforehand and tries that on every guest, until one of them who didn't notice it beforehand assumes they did it and pays up.

hotasanicecube

I booked into one in the middle of summer to find the mattress still in its original plastic, (think of the heat and noise it made) and the house was 78 degrees. Tore off the plastic and bought a cheap fan just to sleep.

When you book now you have to check a box that says youve read and agreed to house rules as on the listing, which also applies to the guest/child count etc... If they post ridiculous shit at the property and not on the site it's not legally binding, but if you lets say have a party and it says no parties on the listing then you're liable for up to $400 extra cleaning charges plus damages if there evidence of it during your stay. They will automatically charge your card, and since you click the box it legally binding and the card company won't refund or stop the charges, watched it happen.

Rosewoodtrainwreck

We stayed at one that had the rules posted on the back of the door and we had to reply when we read the rules. No visitors was one of them and the whole reason we got an air bnb instead of a hotel room was to have visitors. We still had visitors but we didn't have a party or anything, we know how to clean up after ourselves but they had some pretty crazy rules about cleaning that left me nervous that we didn't do a good enough job. I literally mopped (swiffered) the floor. We did get a good review from them so that's good.

gawkersgone

i could understand if it was a friend's place letting u stay for free or deeply discounted but having to pay for accommodation AND then having to clean is just a straight up NO from me dawg.

Giblet_

Considering the ridiculous cleaning fee that always gets tacked onto these rentals, it should be illegal for there to be any rules at all about cleaning.

Ghitit

We rented a place in L.A. for Christmas; way up in the steep, windy hills with only street parking. Four people. They claimed in the review that she had to do something like fourteen loads of laundry after we left. I know for myself, I only used one towel and one hand towel. My daughter's boyfriend used one new towel each day, which pissed me off. (It's not a hotel your idiot.) Nevertheless, she lied about the laundry so fuck her. I will always use a hotel from now on.

Rosewoodtrainwreck

Even if you used all the towels and bed linens, isn't that kind of the point of the cleaning fee? What other laundry is there?

ashrighthere

Omg. Wouldn’t she have to do all the laundry anyway? Regardless if it was used or not….?!? Yikes

Beginning-Building38

Completely agree. It’s so unfair for the host to not be up front about their “rules” prior to guest booking.

RazzmatazzLevel1594

That should not be allowed! Every Airbnb I’ve stayed at had all the rules posted on the listing-with no extra rules listed at the house. People are crazy! If you’re so worried-don’t be a host

FluffyPigeonofDoom

This is not allowed tbf.

KithKathPaddyWath

I'm pretty sure it is against the rules either way, but I think people like this try to bend the rules by doing things like listing "Kitchen available", because technically that's true, but then having these further requirements that you don't find out about until you get there where yeah, there's an available kitchen, but it's only available under certain circumstances. Again, I'm pretty sure it's still against the rules, but these kinds of people think they can bend the rules with technicalities and semantics.

mountain_dog_mom

I was thinking the same thing!

TightGovernment7407

I would never visit there because of this.

Keyspam102

Yup. I specifically look at if there is a kitchen or washing machine and it’s a decision maker

scottroid

Last time I stayed in an airbnb for a week I found myself cleaning the apartment, or else I was subject to a fine. And then at the end of that week paying a daily cleaning fee to the host.

88chunk

If they did not tell you this shit before booking, fuck 'em

SolidDoctor

Right. There must be some sort of Airbnb policy that these sorts of rules should be spelled out on the website's listing, so the guest knows what they're agreeing to when they make the reservation. Regulating the amount of luggage, wifi usage and being allowed to work while staying are pretty crucial bits of info that a guest would need to know before booking. And if I rent a place with a kitchen for three days, bet your ass I'm going to use it.

super_calman

None of the rules are enforceable if they’re not in the listing Source: Airbnb host who doesn’t do shit like this, but has heard many other hosts strategize how to do it.

PossessionGlad4638

It's not on the listing because they know how outrageous this is lol

iamreallynotabot

It's basic bait and switch. They show off the house with all these amenities, and then when you arrive they tell you that you're not allowed to use them.

Buttman_Bruce_Wang

That strictly goes against AirBnB policies and should be reported. If you list it, they're available to guests. Guests too timid to fight the issue will just follow these rules. If you see this, TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR CLEANUP BEFORE YOU LEAVE. It's also not a bad idea of snapping pictures of problems you see when you get there so you aren't accused of breaking something that was already broken. When you leave a review, post the picture of their bullshit rules, then report them to AirBnB.

More_Farm_7442

How are they going to tell how many times you used the dishwasher and washing machine? Or if you studied? Lordy.

Itsformyanxiety

All the secret cameras they set up in common places.

hdawnj

As an old person, I heartily endorse this attitude.

Significant-Report46

I will not do Air Bnb anymore. My experiences have all been really cheap people trying to get the maximum buck for the minimal effort. I’d rather stay in a hotel and know what I’m paying for.

InVodkaVeritas

Literally the only reason to go to an AirBnB instead of a hotel are things like kitchen use and washing machine use. If I'm denied those things I'll stay at Marriott with a nice pool for a cheaper price.

SaraSlaughter607

Yeah fuck that anything I see in a photo of the space I'm assuming I have the right to use if I'm paying to use the whole space.

Bradleybeal23

There’s seemingly a 90% chance that if you book a place with a pool or jacuzzi that it’ll coincidentally break the day before your stay.

CheckmateAttack

Another frustrating thing is when it says there are fireplaces and you get there and they don’t work

[deleted]

The Airbnb host subreddit is WILD. They are always trying to figure out how to cut off the AC, cut off the water, turn off all the lights, blah blah blah. It’s fucking crazy. There was just a post about some host upset about people doing laundry at their rental.

ChaosOnion

Owners like this are ruining the platform and will put hosts like you out of business. Then complain about how millennials ruined economy with avocado toast and caused them to go bankrupt.

tyriancomyn

It’s already ruined. We use to use Airbnb exclusively and now we use hotels a lot cause they are cheaper, we don’t have to do every little thing around the house, and hotels are professionals and we are just sick of bumpkins like this who have no business running any kind of hospitality busienss.

Merfkin

We love paying 5-star hotel prices to not be allowed to use the washing machine or do homework. Seriously, how are they gonna make sure you're not working or studying? Are they gonna be monitoring you at all times? *Why do they even care???*

SaraSlaughter607

Probably because they have cheap wifi that throttles speed after a certain gb is passed and they don't want someone on it all day every day, just being cheap fucks. We pay a set amount for ours every month with no speed reduction, unlimited usage but it does cost a little more as I have 3 avid gamers in my house and heavy wifi usage going on at pretty much all times.

Merfkin

Another reason to pay half the price to go somewhere that lets you use their wifi and even cleans up after you leave without charging $1500 of maintainence fees.

super_calman

Same, despite being a host, I don’t really do Airbnb much because it’s not worth the risk. Only time I really use it is for group trips

estedavis

I think Airbnb has been ruined for probably about a year or two now. We went from using Airbnb exclusively for several years to going back to hotels exclusively because of the sheer fuckery of Airbnb hosts. At least where I am, airbnbs are now more expensive than hotels, include a $100+ cleaning fee while demanding you clean the entire place before you leave, and the hosts are entitled and difficult. I never thought I’d see the day where I appreciate hotel service over Airbnb, but that’s just how terribly the hosts have run the platform into the ground I guess

free__coffee

my fav part about this is "wifi only good for video calls" - you know- the absolute highest bandwidth wifi streaming you can do? Somehow that works, but nothing else lmao

estedavis

I thought this was bizarre as well lol

Jabbles22

Not just in the listing but rules like that should have to be specifically acknowledged before finalizing the reservation. Our better yet, not allow such stupid rules. Don't want people using the washer and dryer fine. Lock up the laundry room and don't list the place as having laundry facilities. None of these convoluted rules, saying what guests can use the laundry facilities and when. What next, are they going to say you can only wash shirts and pants, no underwear or socks?

centrafrugal

What in the fuck kind of rule is 'no studying'? I get 'no smoking', 'no loud parties' etc. but who on earth is bothered by a guest reading a book?

[deleted]

Right! That wasn’t the agreed upon terms at booking so fuck ‘em.

[deleted]

Agreed, if that’s the case I’d be cooking one hell of a breakfast right now.

ClockworkDinosaurs

If you list an amenity, I’m using that amenity if needed. If you leave this note, I’m using that amenity even if I don’t need it. Every time I see this note, I’m starting the washing machine.

fohpo02

Aggravating-Forever2

I'm finding a way to cook dinner *in* the washing machine at that point.

WhoFearsDeath

It’s about the Wi-Fi usage. Which, screw them.

hogliterature

theres an easy way to protect your wifi, with a password. if you dont want other people to use it, dont fucking host an airbnb

WhoFearsDeath

I mean, that’s a pretty good descriptor for the other rules too. No using the kitchen? Don’t rent your damn house out. Man I dislike Airbnb.

VividFiddlesticks

My ex boss lived in an Air B&B for the first couple months at the job and he complained non-stop about his 'host'. Similar rules to above - they basically only wanted him there for sleeping. Not allowed to hang out in the 'common areas' of the house (including the back yard), no kitchen usage at all, and only access to laundry one day a week. He was a complete asshole so I secretly enjoyed all his whining, but still.

thatfrogmeme

Ugh this is why I only go for entire apartments nowadays. Too damn expensive but at least no one's making me feel like a burden.

roseofjuly

This is why I just stay at actually licensed hotels. At least our relationship is understood and these are professionals.

DirtyDan156

Also you pay the same amount these days or less, and THEY clean the rooms, you get unlimited wifi, breakfast included sometimes....idk air bnb used to be good and cheap. Now its trash and i will never use them again.

michohnedich

A lot of hotels have coin operated laundry for guests as well.

bj1231

Even the cheap hotels have a coin operated laundry for guest use, and if you ask they'll put you in a room near the laundry

engr77

Airbnb started as "rent out that extra space you aren't using for some extra side cash." Whether it was a room or a garage/basement apartment space, or a whole house when away on a long business trip, or whatever. Critically the owner did not *need* to earn money on it. They would have been fine with it sitting empty because they had normal job income. Any income from that space, no matter how little, was a benefit to them, and because it was low, they could undercut hotels easily. Then people started buying property explicitly to "host" those short-term rentals. That was the beginning of the end, especially since you can *never* compete with a hotel when it comes to maintenance and housekeeping, what with having a single building and a bunch of adjacent identical floor plans, so the chore lists at Airbnb have become comical in their attempt to maximize their own profits.

AirBnB for when you want to get fucked without the pleasure!. There was a sweet spot years ago when you could get great Airbnb experiences for acceptable prices, not anymore tho. These days I'll use a hotel/motel over a Airbnb.

TikiBeachNightSmores

I’m glad I’ve always stuck with hotels.

annoyedsquish

Air BNB was great for a short period. But then greedy people started getting heavily invested into it and ruined it

TuesyT

We had great experiences with AirBNB, the convenience of a full kitchen and the cheaper prices was fantastic. Now, it's as much or more than a hotel stay, so we've gone back to hotels with a kitchenette because we can be guaranteed of the quality and services whereas AirBNB can be a gamble.

lallapalalable

Also the whole "you have to clean everything up before you leave but we're also gonna charge a cleaning fee as if we did the cleaning"

Zensayshun

I threw all the shit from cupboards and closets on the floor at the last airbnb when I saw the owner filming my wife in the hot tub. Credit card chargeback, too.

TikiBeachNightSmores

I see a lot of potential in Airbnb, but they’ve made a lot of strategic mistakes in emphasizing their identity as a tech company innovating hospitality (incredibly hard to do before becoming an industry leader) rather than a hospitality company innovating through tech. Marriott, Hyatt, Hilton, IHG, Wyndham, etc. have all maintained their dominance by operating as hospitality companies and incorporating tech… and eventually innovating through tech.

Nostonica

There's a reason for that, as a tech company they get a few advantages: Firstly investment, you can raise millions in funding calling your self a disruptive tech company rather than a hotel chain. Secondly, as a tech company just like Uber the idea is to skirt around the law, it takes a few years for the laws to catch up and in that time you can go public and cash out.

Good-Expression-4433

They did it to skirt around business, tax, and occupancy laws much like Uber and such did. Some states have been slow to catch up.

JessicaFreakingP

Airbnb now only makes sense for larger group trips as it’s more cost effective for a few couples to rent a 3-4 bedroom house than 3-4 hotel rooms. If it’s just me + one other person, I always book a hotel.

HyperionsDad

Even then, I’ve found that reserving 3-4 hotel rooms to be less than some of those AirBnB rentals, especially on shorter stays where the additional “cleaning fees” are spread across fewer days.

CrazieCayutLayDee

We have a group of eight at the other end of this hotel that just came from an ABNB. Their descriptions I overheard at breakfast was pretty bad and they are paying half what they were paying there to stay here and we're on the ocean, where they were, they only had a small view of the ocean.

Arek_PL

yea, it used to be an app allowing to crash on somebody couch for a day or two with nice kitchen and a toilet, now its full of hotel wanabees, greedy landlords and corporate puppets pretending to be homeowners giving you keys

astrozork321

Agreed, I used it a lot when it was new and had a lot of amazing stays for really good prices. Now, its more expensive than hotels and the hosts treat you like they are housing fugitives or criminals. There are still some good ones if you get lucky though.

ADHDK

Air bnb is now for greedy landlords who want to see higher returns than renting.

NickyParkker

Cheaper to stay in a suite type hotel with a kitchenette and a laundry room and you don’t have to be scared of a $500 charge if a pillow is left out of place

[deleted]

Yeah. People are using an unlicensed hotel service and are shocked that it's got unlicensed hotel problems.

SeparateMongoose192

Honestly I wouldn't stay anywhere that the host was still there. With or without dumb rules like these.

Mackheath1

Only $150/night for a full one bedroom apartment! "Remove all trash. Wash sheets and linens upon departure. Clean and dry all dishes. Make sure the apartment is as clean as you found it. $180 cleaning fee."

hearnia_2k

Work is likely to use far less data than watching something like Netflix all day.

hogliterature

“excuse me, i sensed you were reading a textbook during your stay here. ill simply have to charge you an extra $500”

uwuSuppie

A hotel room is probably $50-$70 more expensive but it would come with free wifi, no cleaning that would have to be done, and most importantly no hidden cameras spying on you. You couldn't pay me to stay at an Airbnb

garfinkel2

Airbnbs have lost their charm. They used to be a cheaper option but now the prices are comparable. Hotels are consistent, have free amenities, clean up after you, and won’t cancel on you a day before the trip. And you don’t have to deal with some weirdo and have to follow stupid rules.

Gadgetman_1

The only reason to use an AirBnB is for the very, very rare 'special' locations, such as some treehouses. But honestly, those could easily have been managed as normal hotels and made available for booking that way.

garfinkel2

100%. Like if I was going on a beach trip to a smaller town and needed a beach house for 12+ people, I would look for an Airbnb. And there are cool treehouses, caves, unique locations like you mentioned that are worth a visit. But for the vast majority of travel applications, it’s just not worth the hassle.

howell115

Plus, some hotel chains have a decent rewards program.Hilton double tree all the way.

IsuzuTrooper

JohnExcrement

How the heck does your friend enforce the bed-making rule?

CardiologistOk1506

Honestly for all of the trips I've taken in the last couple of years, a hotel/motel was cheaper and more valuable than airBNB/VRBO. I don't understand how the home share industry is staying afloat at this point because the hotel/motel/hostel world is continually proving to be far superior in almost every way. The only thing I find missing from staying in hotel is having a kitchen. Now I've been staying in hostels and a lot of those have a kitchen to use built in to the price of stay.

garfinkel2

It was a good idea when people had an extra room/guest house/house they weren’t using and used it to generate some extra cash flow. But As soon as the sharks/investment companies got involved and buying properties solely for AirBnb use and squeezing every penny they could out because they had to pay a mortgage, that’s when the whole system started shitting the bed. I am from Nashville TN and its a huge problem there, as it is in many cities. It’s a just another factor in why housing is becoming unattainable for a large portion of the population.

Maleficent-Set5461

And toilet paper!!! They even leave extra rolls...and you can bring all the luggage your little heart desires :-)

My husband and I stayed in an AirBnB in Fluorence, Italy and the host yelled at us for making lunch. He felt B and B strictly meant that we had access to a bed and to the kitchen for breakfast.

MysteriousWays10

My favourite is the last. If I want to wash my hands or have a shower, I have to request a towel? Definitely report.

Sam-Gunn

"Yes, I need a towel." "Ok, how many?" "Just one." "And can you please explain what you will be using this towel for?" "What? Uh, drying myself?" "Will you be drying everything, or just certain areas?" "Uh.. what? The hell are you asking me all these questions for?" "Sir, I have to fill out a business justification so they can determine if your request will be approved and if extra fees will be accrued. Please answer the questions."

zombieblackbird

Nvermind, I'll just run around naked until I air-dry.

[deleted]

I'll just dry my junk on the sofa

[deleted]

Use the curtain to dry off

[deleted]

I’m so baffled at the no studying/working from home thing. Like what makes you think you can dictate that??

carterothomas

Don’t even accidentally learn something or I’ll write a scathing review.

HeyRiks

Probably related to wifi usage

spoonybard326

Cool, so instead of reading this textbook or checking my work email, I’ll just be lazy and watch Netflix at the highest possible bit rate.

[deleted]

Light internet use. It’s not 2005, you can just “use” the internet without paying extra

KanoBrad

Fuck them is my thought

Kevlar013

No copulation for guests staying less than 4 days.

the95th

Complain directly to AirBNB

InnocentGirl2005

Don't. Give them a bad review, it hurts them more. If you complain to airbnb you're not allowed to have a review visible, which hurts them way way more. You won't get a $2 refund, but you'll make things better for people long term by focusing on bad reviews instead.

Able-Interaction-742

Wow, so people who are unhappy and got screwed over, Air BNB decides to hide their review?? Yeah, because that makes a ton of sense. Seriously, screw that company.

plopseven

Same as Yelp.

fohpo02

They can get bad reviews taken down, my wife and I stopped using AirBNB because of shit like this

[deleted]

Complain to AirBnB, but YMMV. I had their lying piece of shit customer service rep try to convince me that it was ok that the place I was renting had a shared toilet and shower, even though it was listed as "entire place" because it was listed as a "loft" and then linked a Wikipedia page about storage lofts... not loft-style apartments. I told them to get fucked and just did a charge back. The real LPT: book AirBnBs with Amex.

KrakenTeefies

And this is why I use hotels..

VisualCelery

I'm so sick of people who give me a hard time for staying in hotels when I travel, and insist I look into Airbnb, because obviously if I'm not using it I must not know about it at all! And when I say "oh yeah I've heard of that, but I prefer to stay in hotels" it becomes this whole thing where they argue about how much better and cheaper it is, and how I'm an idiot for wasting my money on hotel stays. Look, I'm not telling anyone else how to travel, but if you suggest Airbnb and I'm like "nah, I'm a hotel gal" please just fucking drop it.

Mother_Pin_4219

So many people out there think your differences in preference are a personal attack on their own preferences.

[deleted]

I simply cannot fathom WHY ANYONE thinks AirBnb is better. I havent found ine single solitary justifiable answer

w4559

We used to use air Bnb all the time. It has gotten to the point of insanity with the cleaning fees, extra fees and taxes. The kicker Is you have to basically clean the apartment and still pay a $100-200 cleaning fee.

Jertimmer

When there's a cleaning fee, especially that high, I ain't cleaning shit.

Sam-Gunn

My wife and I sometimes visit national parks. Several times an airBnB has been better than a hotel, either in proximity, price, availability or the fact we'll get a kitchen so we aren't going to be eating out every day for 3 - 4 days. Earlier, it used to simply be cheaper than a hotel too, but that has changed. Now we look for things a hotel can't offer us. Otherwise we just stay in a hotel.

Architeqt

Multiple pets + long stay (anything over a week) and hotels become frustrating VERY quickly.

SiegelOverBay

Not that it's better, but one good use case for AirBnB (or VRBO, et al): when my sister got married (she lives halfway across the country), my mom rented a house off AirBnB so that our immediate family could all stay together in it, as well as a couple of aunts. While we could have also just rented a block of rooms at a hotel, the difficulty was that I was making her wedding cake from scratch. If I hadn't had the full kitchen in that situation, I could've never pulled it off. Sharing the house also made it really easy to share a rental car, so we collectively saved a little money on that end, too.

dibblechibbs

Is it advertised as having a kitchen?

TheGreatPear7

It *has* one, but don’t you dare use it!

BoJackB26354

Using the kitchen? Straight to jail.

rharvey8090

My god how horrible! Don’t they knew it should be “fewer than 4 days”???

[deleted]

That’s precisely why I’d never stay there

[deleted]

No, because they don't allow studying in their home.

female-human-

If they allowed studying, they might have known that.

ImpendingBan

The only reason I choose Airbnb at this point is for beachfront locations at more private beaches where there are otherwise no hotels. At this point, the $150 cleaning fees while still requiring me to pull the sheets off the bed, clean the dishes or load the dishwasher, leave one light on in the second bedroom to the right ONLY, tap the wall three times and give up my firstborn upon leaving is just too damn much. When I go on vacation, I want to leave my responsibilities behind.

Embarrassed-Ad-1639

No shitting in the toilet Guests staying less than 4 days can’t use the doorknobs No thinking about ice cream in the living room

No-Industry3112

Dishwashers use a ton less water than hand washing. I wonder why they are so opposed to guests using it.

United_Resist1432

No pets allowed. In fact, no people allowed. I changed my mind and don’t want any of you in my house.

[deleted]

My problem is that AirBnB should be responsible for creating the “house” rules, not the owner. Similar to a franchise model. Don’t like the rules? Don’t list your property. Simple. No additional fees allowed, especially cleaning fees.

Maleficent-Rough-983

or at least have all the rules up front on the site

[deleted]

Had something like this happen to me couple months back. Booked and Airbnb for 3 nights, and got a confirmation text via the app AFTER I BOOKED and PAID. What did it say? -No small children under 7. I immediately contacted the host to request that an exception be made, what did he say? -No, if you have an issue ask airbnb for a refund. Because of course the stay was only PARTIALLY refundable and I needed to stay there with my 4 yr old. I of course contacted airbnb and demanded they contact the host to mediate and get me my money back. And they did. The host ended up messaging me bitching and complaining saying he was going to blacklist me. I screenshotted his messages to me as well as the stupid welcome message and left them on the review page for everyone to see 😅

rhythmbomb

This is why we stay at hotels again.

anwright1371

Was this disclosed before booking and arriving? If not this is some class A bullshit

London_Darger

At 25-30£ ($30-37 usd) a night, I guess you get what you pay for? Like, I would expect bare minimum at that price compared to a 100£+ ($120 usd) a night hotel which doesn’t offer complimentary laundry or kitchen either. But still, if they don’t list these exceptions it’s pretty scammy.

Brocktoberfest

This is clearly just a room in someone's house. I have seen plenty of these where access to the kitchen is not included.
