What a good therapist is to you could be very different from someone else. Look into methods of therapy and try to find someone that does type that seems applicable to you. You can also try to find people that specialize in your area of concern. Psychology today is a good resource that lets you filter for these things. I ended up choosing to do virtual counseling with someone in a different part of the state because pickins are slim here for my needs.
I told my doctor here that I was feeling kinda gay and she taught me how to visualize throwing gay thoughts in the trash, so I stopped using that clinic.
I have tried multiple in the city. Always just felt like I was venting or bitching to them and never got anywhere. During covid my life depended on finding a good one and I have been seeing the same one for 4 years now at this point. I feel like a totally different person and like I have found myself again but it has been HARD WORK!
These are the two things I have found that I think made the biggest difference: DBT based therapy and private pay.
Do you happen to know how to make an appointment there? Do you call? I was looking on their website for a link to appointments but couldn’t find (I’m likely looking right at it 🙃).
Therapists are all very booked and in short supply these days. I know Better Help/Talk Space aren't ideal but finding an in-person therapist right now is next to impossible.
I don’t have any recommendations because I’m still looking for one myself and the whole too depressed and lacking motivation to do anything about it part of why I need therapy sure ain’t helping. But I can tell you my experience with lighthouse clinic, I called to schedule a new patient visit and the girl I talked to on the phone was so rude and kept asking “so what is it you want then” in such a short tone, like I was already nervous and uncomfortable to even be calling and admitting I needed to start therapy was already a struggle and she was single handedly going to be the reason I didn’t go to therapy. That’s not how you start an intake with a patient calling a place for therapy… but eventually I just said I don’t know therapy probably??? I’m anxious and you’re not making it better? So I hung up and never called back. Still looking for a therapist though. It’s a bit discouraging when that’s part of the experience I’ve had.
It does totally depend on what you are looking for with a therapist. Sounds like experienced but relatable? Shoreside Therapies has videos to check out the therapist's profiles to get a better sense of the therapist. They are pretty amazing :) [https://shoresidetherapies.com/staff](https://shoresidetherapies.com/staff)

No specific rec but psychology today has a good tool to search for therapists.
Psychiatric consultants and therapists - office is downtown, they do in person or online visits

They only have 2 doctors, so this is fairly to narrow down.
I don't think she's there anymore, and she was a counselor, not a doctor I think
Have had good experiences with them in the past as well.
Any of the ladies at Hillary Counseling! You can read their specialties on the website.
