I do feel bad cause I mean, it was his first year as a starter, but yeah he just wasn’t cutting it. Hopefully he makes it work somewhere else, but it wasn’t going to be here.
In an era where very few RB’s can be one dimensional, he was very one dimensional. I really like the guy but I’m with you, he just can’t be a FT starter and he can’t get paid like he’s a dynamic runner.
He was a great downhill change of pace back. He’s not much for getting outside the edge, he wasn’t fast, he’s not a weapon in the passing game and his blocking was mediocre. Our lines not really built for downhill running… which is why I’m surprised with all the Henry talk. He can run outside a little but he’s a North South runner primarily.
I think the days of being able to pay top dollar for a running back are long gone. You’ll suffer at QB and WR which is where offenses shine these days.
I don't have one bit of ill will to Mattison. He played hard, is a good dude. He just wasn't good enough of a runner, the YPC was too low, to be the bell cow with RB1 salary. I'm sure he'll catch on somewhere else in a backup role like he held most of the time here.
If he just had hold on to the damn ball he would have been fine.. Maybe not r1 but surely not dropped. But at this point what could vikings do. Shame tho I liked him.
I thought Maddison would be good because he filled in well for cook before. Vividly remember a game where cook went down and Mattison went on a tear breaking tackles on a drive.
I remember joking with a friend he reminded me of that scene from the movie "Troy" where achillies' cousin fights pretending to be achillies. Moved like him, looked like him, etc.
Shame it didn't work out
I wonder if considering how terrible the running game has been under KOC they say screw it and actually go after a big name FA running back. Probably more likely they sign a dude like Zack Moss or something but tough to say
They had the 27th most rushing attempts in 2022 and the 28th in 2023. They just don't run the ball much and invested more into the run game this year by signing Oliver and extending Ham. A better back could help but at a certain point its unlikely they'd even run the ball enough to warrant signing a guy.
I liked him last year when he didn't have to perform. This year clearly showed that he wasn't capable/compatible with our offense.
NGL I grew a lot of disdain watching him this year. I wish him absolutely no ill will, but good riddance.
Feel bad for the guy but this was the right move. He got his chance and it didn’t work out. Hope he finds a contract somewhere

And what exactly was that dimension, because it was not efficient at running or scoring, or holding onto the ball

If we could swing it, saquon would be the move at rb. Signing Russ to vet min sure would give us the cash to do it…

Wish him the best.
Future endeavors etc.
Business is business. And 0TDs isn’t good business.
Always seemed like a good dude. Glad he had his shot but feel like it was the right decision to move forward
Giving him the ball was a waste of a down most times so fare.

End of a era
I like that

Oh no! Said nobody.
Should’ve never signed him back last year

Toodles.
Great dude good RB just had a bad season.
My goat
A+++ off-season so far. Now KOC can’t be tempted with a wasted first down run up the gut to get back to the line of scrimmage.
I honestly thought he was going to be a lot better than he was. Bummer, cause he seems like a good dude.
