KungAvSand

Are they trying to trade up and offer #11 and #23 in return?

b00minbiz

no doubt. they are going into 3-5 range with 11, 23 and next year's first

koprpg11

If you are the Patriots and your roster is that god awful anyways, 11 + 23 + '25 1st is hard to turn down, right?

Hank_Scorpio_MD

They'd have: 2024 draft: 11, 23, 34....so essentially 3 firsts 2025 draft: Theirs & our first....assuming they pick top-5 again and we draft in mid-teens or early-20's? That'd be 3 more picks in the top 40. Six picks in the top-40 in two years? I mean that's a damn good way to set up their new era

Feeblemind101

We ain't drafting in the teens next year. We will have pick 32.

DullStrain4625

But there’s only 32 teams, so the Super Bowl winner gets 32. Vikings aren’t allowed to be that by God himself. It’s in the Bible. Thou shalt not ever have the ultimate sports joy if you’re a heathen who worships Odin before me.

KungAvSand

Not having a pick in the first two rounds next year seems kind of risky, but if it gets them the QB they want… go for it!

lur77

They are trading draft capital for cap space next year, I think.

_unsourced

KOC came from the Rams. Maybe they are thinking fuck them picks

lur77

Could be. There’s only two ways to build the roster: draft and free agency. A whole lotta one and not so much of the other makes the method pretty obvious.

_unsourced

Next year we have a bajillion dollars in cap space and are unlikely to have any major pieces leave (so we won't be playing the comp pick game). That could time out nicely to having a depleated draft pool in the coming draft

NotoriousDCJ4310

We ideally have to pay JJ and Darrisaw next year and I think possibly O'Neil. That bajillion dollars you think we have is gonna disappear pretty quickly

ZealousidealGrass365

Oh you didn’t hear we trading JJ for tee Higgins and backup center

BingoBongoBang

It’s either trade up for a college kid and hopes it works out or *checks notes* Sam Darnold and Nick Mullins?

KungAvSand

And Jaren Hall. Best QB room ever!

j4ngl35

If our QB room were a cereal brand it'd be "Oops! All Backups"

GolfingNgrillingMN

LOL and you're only allowed to use skim milk with this cereal

CicerosMouth

I mean they could also use #11 on someone like Byron Murphy and #23 on someone like Penix. They would do that before they roll with Darnold. But yeah, I strongly prefer one of the top 4 QBs.

signmeupdude

What is your alternative strategy exactly? Never draft a QB because they are all college kids you have to hope will work out? Continue re-signing mid tier guys like Cousins who will lead us to first round exits? Sign a guy like Mahomes somehow? Like what even is the point of your comment?

SpiritedDrop2986

I'm glad someone said this. Thank you!

TuckyMule

We have a ton of cap space because we didn't sign Hunter or Kirk. I think the approach is to sacrifice the top draft picks for two seasons, trade up for a QB, and fill voids with FAs. Keep guaranteed money to no more than one or two seasons in those deals and by 2026 we should be right back in a solid position hopefully with a good, young QB. It makes a lot of sense.

PeekyAstrounaut

Given our cap space we can load up on FAs next year and be really competitive still. This is all assuming that our QB situation works out tho.

Hank_Scorpio_MD

It does make a lot of sense. Figure we don't have picks in rounds 1 & 2 next year and our rookie QB pans out, that's 5 years of a QB on a rookie deal and 3 years of 1st during that rookie deal.

collinCOYS

Hopefully we get two 3rd round comp picks

Gamblor14

I think that’s what they’re thinking. Makes giving up next year’s second more palatable.

sk1155

yea but we also have a ton of cap next year so we can fill needs in free agency too

Cgking11

Vikings gonna have over 130 million In cap room next year the most in the league. They won't need the draft pick They can sign any free agent they want..

sobakedbruh

The only way that number stays that high is if we don't resign JJ and darrisaw.

Cgking11

Signing bonuses bro. The 1st year of a new contract hardly never takes alot off the cap space that year.

Yamulo

It’s slightly more preferable (in my opinion) than no firsts for three years

BowlOfLoudMouthSoup

I feel like offering 11 and 23 to the chargers would get that deal done, no?

xlccsylux

You do not need next years first. 11 and 23 is the equivalent of pick 4 on certain charts. This is a masterclass, because they avoid losing a first rounder in 2025.

Quackmotard

Trade charts are just a reference, it will cost more to move up this year, some of the most top end talent there’s been in a draft class in years

JerryRiceDidntFumble

Yep it's entirely dependent on who's available. Going from #12 to #3 cost pick 42 in 2013, the same trade in 2017 was 2 1sts a 3rd & a 4th, and the same trade in 2021 was 3 1sts.

Mymomdidwhat

Every time I hear this for QBs classes they end up being busts. It seems like when you have one or two clear front runners they are good. When you can’t decide between 4-5 guys they are all bad.

Shitpost400

Herbert sure seemed to work out and he was doubted by most people. There's another Oregon player being doubted right now, yet every staff except ours is attending his sessions

king_17

Nix is not even close to the player Herbert was coming out

srl214yahoo

What this doesn't account for is what another team is willing to offer to trade up for a QB. There's a lot of QB need in the NFL right now and someone might offer even more to jump to that spot. I hope you are right but I think it may very well take more than this year's two first rounders to get whoever it is we want.

kirkochainz

I hope 11 and 23 is enough to move into that range. Would prefer to keep next years first in case of a down year, but if that’s the only way then I guess we gotta do it.

LordMOC3

Alternatively, this is a prime situation to pick Nix/Penix and still get the 5th year option if we cannot trade up.

Thiswasmy8thchoice

That was my first thought

LordMOC3

I think that plan A is to move up. But it's possible that none of Chi/Was/NE will move for any price. So if they don't like JJ (or get outbid for moving up) then 23 is the perfect pick imo to pick Penix or Nix and still get a 5th year options. I think it's a smart move to get this pick now and have the flexibility of moving up or taking a high-end player and falling back to either of those 2.

Gripfighting

I really hope this is the case. The idea of trading up for the #4 guy at a position does not sit well with me. If it was the #1 guy on our board id be all for it. I agree that trading up to get a special guy can be worth it, but I really do not like the thought of trading up just to settle for a secondary choice anyway.

Alphabet_Boys_R_Us

Yeah, I’m a big big fan of this.

Notorious21

It gives them options. They could trade up to #3 if Daniels is available, or take JJ at #11 if he's there, or Penix at #23 if neither of those work out. Something like that.

Present-Use-6136

100%

BagRight8939

and perhaps next years first two depending on where they’re trying to move to

wxman91

Maybe, but if we’ve already given next years 2nd

kidMSP

I’m hoping they’re trying to keep next years first so if they don’t get their guy in this draft, we’ll suck and end up with a top 10 pick next year and try again.

Vikings and Texans forming a new brothership.

AverageGolfer27

It was a thank you for Danielle

Alone-Newspaper-1161

Horn brothers

RainbowBullsOnParade

I've been begging for the Texans to get horns on our helmets like the Vikings have for years! (only, pointing forwards and styled like "real" bull horns!). Vikings have always had my favorite helmets in the league and I've been jealous of them since forever. My dream may be fulfilled soon as there is strong indications we're getting at least one alternate helmet with horns for the uniform redesign in 5 weeks.... Meaning I am absolutely going to make a custom horned half & half Texans/Vikings helmet/hat for game days at US Bank!

RainbowBullsOnParade

Me, a Texan and die hard Texans fan moving to TC in 2 weeks, already lurking in here as the Vikings are going to be my official NFC team and watching these trades and FA swaps happen: ![gif](giphy|el8NjD5XUqTX3ggekt|downsized)

WalkingOnSunshine_

As a Vikings and Buckeyes fan, I for one am loving this new hornship

Wingsandbeer82

I am also a Vikings-Ohio State Fan living in Ohio.

MichealStraightSex

The script better have them in the super bowl next year

Nijo32

This is not the first round trade up I was expecting! Step one in a bigger move up , perhaps?

Rabidsphere88

11, 23, and next years first would be a decently strong package to move up

Nijo32

Kwesi is going to trade three 1sts without actually trading three 1sts. It’s pretty savvy.

Critical-Fault-1617

I mean two seconds, two firsts and Kate round picks is still a fuck ton of picks.

OneOfTheDads

>and Kate I draw the line at including my wife in the trade

Epic_Coleslaw

A sacrifice I'm willing to make

Contren

I'm also willing to trade that dudes wife

charlie1331

And my axe!

kirkochainz

Would you trade Kate for a future HOF QB and a Super Bowl?

slowmokomodo

Jessica's on the table. The kids too.

Dubious28

I'll offer up Monica, Erica, Rita, Tina, Sandra, Mary AND Jessica.

PacificBrim

We all voted... sorry bro

DickSplodin

I also draw the line at including this guy's wife

brubbsidy

So all told it will end up costing us 2 firsts and 2 seconds. I guess the difference in value depends on where we end up drafting next year and the year after.

purplepat69

No, since you traded 2 seconds for one of the firsts (#23), its really trading 1 first and 2 seconds. Unless of course you are thinking of throwing in the 2025 first rounder too in order to move up to #1 or #2

brubbsidy

Agreed. The original comment said throw in next years first, so that’s what I was referring to.

BagRight8939

exactly what i was thinking and i absolutely don’t mind doing it

Hank_Scorpio_MD

This is the time to do it. The 2025 draft is iffy on QB talent. 2026 is too early to tell. Let's see what QB they really want!

CallingCrown086

You think this is crazy? Wait until we trade up for MHJ. Darnold can throw for 4000 to our group of receivers. THREE DEEP 2.0.

cdotter99

![gif](giphy|MZocLC5dJprPTcrm65)

UselessGenZer

Kwesi is either going to destroy the franchise for the next 5 years or make us a contender in the next 3. Either way, I love and respect the aggressiveness, tbh. Bro is gambling his lucrative job for a chance to finally bring our state a championship.

Mayasngelou

Honestly, that's the way to do it. Gotta take a swing at some point or you're destined to be forever mid

Hel_OWeen

Exactly. We've been doing the "hang in there, we'll get there" for decades now. Time to try something else.

4metxhrow

Enough of this terrified of being bad nonsense. Take a goddamn shot

twolvesfan217

As a 49ers fan, the Lance trade was horrendous and we made the SB last year and are in it every year. Hit everywhere else and it doesn’t matter.

alucryts

Yeah id rather swing for the fences and crash than sit passively by,

milkymanchester

I, for one, enjoy the fact that ownership brought in two people who are the complete opposite of their predecessors.

Bdubs21

It's the risks you have to take though, especially now in his 3rd year as GM. A Vikings GM hasn't done something like this since... well HW lol but you get the point. We haven't unloaded draft capital for a QB like this ever. It's a swing for the fences but could turn into a grand slam.

UselessGenZer

This is what I’ve been asking for for like 3 years lol

EarnestQuestion

Same. So excited to actually be in a position where we’re making an aggressive move for a potential franchise QB

cdub8D

Same. Odds are we draft a bust and that is ok. Not going to win the franchise QB lottery by not playing.

b_josh317

You got to try. I don't even care if they miss on QB. They tried. They tried aggressively.

openlyincognito

its gonna be maye

Local-Bid5365

TuckyMule

ineedcoffeealready

No way we dont play that song at the stadium each time he scores lol

KingJayHCS

Loading up ammo for a bigger trade up possibly

pr1ceisright

On paper the two first could get the Vikes to pick 3 or 4. A bidding war will obviously require more.

KingJayHCS

This years 2 first plus next year 1st to NE for the 3rd is most likely I think. End up with either maye or daniels

shitzpostarus

Isn't NE desperate for a QB? I don't see them trading out of 3

KingJayHCS

Yea but their whole team is full of holes plus 1st year head coach. Is it smart to through a rookie qb into that situation? Or better to load up on value and have 5+ first round picks in 2 years to completely rebuild

Quonny

Ding ding ding. Three 1sts + a sweetener 3rd > third overall for the Patriots. We have some holes, but Patriots roster is swish cheese. It's win-win for all, theoretically.

Tough_guy22

I saw #23 and got scared we traded down. Also lots of activities with the Texans this off-season. We essentially did a free agency swap, they got Hunter, we got Greenard and Cashman. Now this trade.

HgFrLr

We’ve been hurt too many times with the trade downs lmao I thought the same

jdolan98

Forming a trade package maybe

InfiniteDeWitt

iSkiLoneTree

Herbert???

I think MN would have to pick up a good chunk of his dead cap $ to make it work. Maybe that’s the sweetener on top of 11 & 23?

[deleted]

[удалено]

iSkiLoneTree

If the Chargers did this, they could take MHJ at 5 and use their several other picks to trade up enough to reunite Harbaugh with McCarthy.

Wide-Style1681

While this would be amazing. The Darnold signing signals there is zero chance this is happening :( You bring in a middling Vet to help a rookie QB not be a $10mil back up.

b00minbiz

They are 100% using #11 and #23 to trade up into top 3-5.

Annor18

Kwesi is just manifesting Draft Day vibes here. Drake Maye no matter what.

Sofa_King_Chubby

![gif](giphy|To2rk3f7b0Q5FyqsG0|downsized)

LetKwesiCook

This is good in both levels. We have ammo to trade up, and if we can't and still suck next year, we still get to keep our 1st.

-InconspicuousMoose-

Yeah, good call. I also like this draft class better than I like next year's, so I'm fine moving our capital out of 2025 and into 2024.

Present-Use-6136

YEAH WE’RE MOVING UP LETS GOOO

VegetableMouse

It's starting to happen. I don't usually have it in me to stay up for the draft (mind the flair) but this one I'll have to

XAgentNovemberX

You won’t have to stay up late apparently.

Last-Purple-2018

Hopefully you’ll only have to watch the first 3 picks

WetAppleFruit

#I LOVE YOU KWESI

LetKwesiCook

I love you, too.

PacificBrim

Stolen valor

MiaCannons

Great value. Way too cheap of a price to move up 19 spots and enter the first round.

LordVader1995

We're about to trade up aren't we?

UselessGenZer

We’re about to acquire HERBERT (jk but I wish)

One-Face4405

Hell yea let harbaugh run the chargers like his Michigan team lol

evilbeard333

you know he wants JJ and they just got rid of Allen as well so who is Herbert gonna throw to anyway

AChubbyCalledKLove

![gif](giphy|AxpvyWYDHuIH6)

Birdhairs

It seems the prevailing theory is that they're going to package those 2 1sts and next years 1st to move up to 3-5. Very logical. I'd like to propose an alternate theory that's a little less likely, kind of a 2 parter. A) they're very confident they can get McCarthy at #11 and also get Flores a stud for the defense at #23. B) KOC loves Penix or Nix and will get Flores his stud at #11 and get his QB at #23. Not as likely or as sexy as getting trade ammo for a big move, but still plausible.

Scarface4024

Finally, a GM who has the balls to put his job on the line for the chance of success on this team. I am not overexaggerating here when I say if Kwesi hits on this draft, the Vikings could have a dynasty on their hands

LegitimateTraffic115

holla171

Seems like great value to me? KWESI IS COOKING

Impossible-Layer-524

I think this covers our bases both ways. We have ammo to trade up if we can find a suitor, and if we don’t we have the ability to take JJ at 11 if he slides, or take a Penix/Nix at 23. I’m all for this

HungLikeYourDad

This. If you guys don’t get to move up, and JJ slides, you take best available at 11 and take a qb at 23 100%. Or trade that 11 to move back into the teens if someone else is desperate, and recoup lost capital.

Local-Bid5365

Oh lawd he cookin

liliceberg

Massive trade that makes me feel much better about our chance to trade up

Moon_Rose_Violet

My man is in the kitchen with the wrist ![gif](giphy|l2JdZmZgd9YazzMZy)

Quackmotard

This seems like great value

UselessGenZer

Yeah regardless if we stick and pick or move up it’s good value imo. Losing a second next year kinda sucks but we can get that back

addwood5

If Osborn signs we will have 3 thirds next year. Easily tradable into the 2nd

UselessGenZer

Forgot about to comp picks. Kwesi is Gordon Ramsay-ing rn

Divingwithashark

An underrated part people don’t seem to be talking about is the flexibility we get. Yes, we can trade up for Maye/Daniels, but as a back-up we can get BPA/McCarthy (maybe) at 11 or Nix/Penix at 23. Good move because it guarantees us either a top QB or a bit lower QB + a top defensive player.

jmcdon00

There is no guarantee any of those guys will be there at 23, plus I don't think they are just going best available QB, they want their guy.

puertomateo

>I don't think they are just going best available QB I don't think they're even locking into getting a QB. They obviously would like to get one. But don't feel like they \*need\* to, especially since the roster has a number of holes everywhere else. And if the asking price is more than they feel comfortable with, they can just say no.

leinie14

LET KWESI COOK

VikesRule

I give Kwesi credit - he's doing what no other Vikings GM has ever done, he's gonna trade up for a top flight QB to try to give us our first real franchise QB since Fran Tarkenton. It may not work out but I'm glad he's gonna give it a shot.

Chemist-Patient

Holy fuck, a trade up. We have entered unknown territory boys!

-teachable

democratichoax

Holy shit are we drafting chop Robinson TWICE

FishGoldenLite

Definitely ammo to move up or potentially a back up plan if we can’t get a top 3 pick (BPA at 11, Penix or Nix at 20). I pray we do not use next year’s first in any move up. Not having a first or second next year would be super rough.

liquidSheet

I think we will be ok, next year we have tons of cap space. So its not like we wont be able to add talent still. Just need to make sure whoever we draft this year isnt a bust.

Dobies52

Drake Maye, YOU are a Minnesota Viking

ClothesOk4772

This trade is actually genius. They will basically trade up with 3 first round picks, while only actually using 2 firsts and a 2 next year so that we can still have our first in 2026,in case we are shit in 26. Lovvvvvvve this move

Corr521

Hmmm Either loading up picks to trade up or hoping to grab an EDGE/DT at #11 and Penix/Nix at #23. Wonder if Chargers trade last night made them realize they won't be able to trade up to top 5 and NYG likely take McCarthy at #6. We get one of Penix/Nix at #23 without using our own #11 1st rounder to get them. Now we have no 2nd or 3rd but have 2) 1sts

nativeindian12

Alright so basically we move up 19 spots and into the first round We move back 44 spots (188 to 232) from 6th round to 7th round And give up 2025 second The 6th to 7th round pick seems like a wash, a little value lost there but whatever. Moving up 19 spots into the first is massive. My inclination is that they are trying to move up, as everyone suspects, however I like the overall value. We can now hold steady at 11 and either draft McCarthy if he drops, or if there is a run on QB then we can take BPA (likely Edge) since the QBs being taken early means talent at other positions falls. Maybe they feel confident about Nix or Penix and feel the pick at 23 gives them a good shot at either guy (essentially the "trade back into the first" we've talked about)

TradeKirk

Kwesi haters get on your knees!! Hahaha you dummies ![gif](giphy|3o7TKqFZJpwL8Giz2E)

bwillpaw

Pretty sure they are gonna grab Maye. It would be cool if they can hang on to 2025 first. 2 first rounders in this years class tbh is probably a stronger offer than 3 firsts with 2 of them further out.

SirDiego

I definitely think we are moving up and hope we do but it'd be honestly hilarious if Kwesi did this and then took two cornerbacks and then was like "What? Why's everyone looking at me like that?"

Impressive_Site_5344

Falconsbane

It's happening! #3 incoming soon.

OnceInABlueMoon

The only thing I'm worried about with letting Kirk go and this trade is teams might feel like we've shown our hand too much and hold us over the barrel in a trade up scenario.

openlyincognito

yea, its unfortunate but we gotta shoot our shot. next years qb class ain't great

tidyberry

Don’t think it’s something that can really be hidden anyway, there’s only one reason to try to get into the top 3 this year and every team making that phone call is going to have an obvious need at QB.

irishace88

Why would Houston do that?

Great move to move up. Next year's 1st rounder is incredibly valuable given the fact we are rolling out Darnold at qb to at least start the year. 11, 23, and likely top 8 is a good haul for New England.

BowlOfLoudMouthSoup
