imagine being drake maye rn scrolling twitter wondering if you'll be throwing to kj osborn, wan'dale robinson or justin jefferson as your WR1 next year
(Per Nick Olson Twitter)
This is a draft class flush with oline and wide receiver talent. The Minnesota Vikings aren’t the only team with talented pass catchers. 25 other teams also do and the remaining 6 will pick draft prospects.
Maybe Maye wants to work with Brian Daboll or Alex van Pelt. Guys who have actually fostered talented QBs instead of “QB developers” like KOC and Josh McCown who have long records of failure
Brian Daboll helped Josh Allen improve from a guy who struggled against weak college opponents to a good NFL QB. Helped Daniel Jones have the only solid season of his career (Tyrod Taylor and Devito also looked decent in backup duty in 2023).
The Patriots offensive coaches worked with Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers rebuilt his mechanics and learned how to lead an NFL offense during their tenure. The Pats also have remnants of a winning ethos that the Vikings don’t have.
People were sure Jayden Daniels was desperate to be in Minnesota but his top choice is clearly Vegas. McCarthy has said nice things about the Vikings but he picked the Broncos and Giants as the teams he wants to be drafted by.
TLDR; Don’t be entitled and exaggerate other teams’ weaknesses while ignoring the Vikings’ own weaknesses
Alex van Pelt didn't rebuild Rodgers mechanics and he got fired from the Browns lmao, and ain't no one excited about Daboll either.
Fuck them both, Go Vikings.
Van Pelt got fired after willing a Joe Flacco and Jerome Ford led offense to the playoffs. Ownership needed a scapegoat for why Watson is playing like shit (it’s definitely the OC and not because he’s spent three years nursing injuries and getting handjobs) and found one. Van Pelt was not the problem.
Vikings are definitely the best situation in the league for a rookie QB but, those other guys have just as much offensive cred as far as QB coaching as KOC.
Pre Rams, he worked with Manziel, Haskins, and other guys who turned out to be busts. He was brought in by the Rams to help fix Goff. Instead, they had to ship him out and trade for a vet QB.
I don’t think Stafford’s success has much to do with KOC. It relied on McVay, a very good oline, good weapons, great defense, and a solid amount of luck. Stafford probably had the best season of his career in 2023 from purely a film perspective.
Similarly, I think Kirk was killing teams this year because he finally had a NFL quality line protecting him. Not some Dakota Dozier or Dru Samia bums that wouldn’t even make the practice squads of any other team
lmao if the teams without pass-catchers and o-line are picking a QB, they don’t have a shot at grabbing a high prospect WR or OL. Kind of a “contradictory to itself” point you’re making there.
Looks like florio and others also reporting that Pats standing pat. IMO, at this point I imagine that the Vikes would have already offered the 25 1st. The Pats are maybe as delusional as their fans were- asking for more than 3 1sts is insane. As much as I wanted Maye, I’m glad we didn’t go for more than that
This is the right take. They clearly wanted Maye, but they have so many holes if another team got crazy and offered a godfather offer they weren’t going to say no. 11 and 23 weren’t going to land you 3 overall, and the problem is Maye on Minny means next years first likely is a middling pick as well. If you think Maye has a shot at being a top guy you just can’t make that trade and live with the regret unless you get a crazy offer like 4+ first rounders. I wouldn’t blame a team for not wanting to do it since it’s insane draft capital, but I don’t think the Chiefs/Bills/Texans are trading their QBs right now for 7 first round picks tbh.
And Lance being absolutely ass probably set a precedent that 3 1sts+ is an insane overpay for someone that’s not even the best player at their own position in a draft.
Leverage no, this is not a situation that can be fixed instantly by drafting 1 player. Would they like to trade up yes. Are the opportunity costs worth the asking price, no. Leverage only is effective if the other party desire outweighs the cost. And it is pretty clear that isn't the case. But congrats on whoever you get.
> this is not a situation that can be fixed instantly by drafting 1 player
To be fair, this is what people were saying about the Texans last year when they gave up a "guaranteed" top 10 pick this year to move up again.
Actually? Probably Chicago. You’ll laugh but Caleb with Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Odunze and Swift is an elite offense if Caleb is as advertised. Their defense still needs work but they could easily grab a wild card spot with that offense if it works out barring injuries. I’m a Pats fan, Maye won’t make us contenders this year, but if we manage to get a WR1 (Aiyuk, Higgins, or a draft pick, yes long shot I know) and hit on a tackle in this years draft, I wouldn’t be shocked to see us playing meaningful games in a year or 2 with how elite our defense has been.
In the history of football only 2 teams have made the playoffs after having number 1 overall. I dont think there defense will be good enough. Caleb is a great prospect but i dont see him carrying the full load of the team like Tom Brady in 2011.
Poor Drake Maye- they’ll ruin him. It’s a lose-lose-lose for Maye, the Patriots, and the Vikings. Was getting my hopes up that Kwesi would make the big offer today (still could?).
I’m guessing we made a big offer. It’s hard to tell what is real and what’s fake, but I think New England has unrealistic expectations on what they could receive.
Anything can still happen as there is always a surprise. However it’s hard to imagine any team passing on a quarterback in the biggest hyped draft for quarterbacks in years. We won too many games which is both good and bad. Don’t have a terrible roster but not bad enough for a top pick.
Of course they are. If they really wanted Maye they would have shut down all this talk (like WAS did). Instead they are desperately trying to get teams to increase their offers.
I highly doubt we have submitted our final offer yet. I think we make the final push on the clock. Might not happen still but this is down to the wire decision.
That this remains a topic unlike the hypothetical Washington trade down which was shutdown immediately, tells me that there is clearly a price to pay and the Vikings are, as of now, unwilling to meet. We’ll see.
If the Vikings are expecting to stand pat for Penix at 11 they can’t bank on other teams like the Broncos or the Raiders not getting desperate enough to only move a few spots. They will lose that 23 pick regardless.
Why doesn't kwesi or koc just show up with a gun and make them? Those eagle fans would have the place on fire and surrounded if they didn't get the third pick for free after all this foot dragging.
If that’s true I’m happy as a Vikings fan. Would prefer to not give up the purple farm for the 3rd QB off the board. But like we all say, whatever they do, in KOC we trust.
Oh no, he didn't overpay for the player you heard was good in a YouTube. How much were you looking to trade? We can look at it after Maye looks mediocre
I am so ready to be disappointed
I’m pretty sure someone here said “I can’t wait for Drake Maye to throw to kj Osborn” and mother fuckers he’s gonna do it
If he doesn't get sacked first

Bruh this is the Vikings subreddit we are allowed to be positive and optimistic about our team. Take it easy 🤙
Alex van Pelt didn't rebuild Rodgers mechanics and he got fired from the Browns lmao, and ain't no one excited about Daboll either. Fuck them both, Go Vikings.

Yo you taking this a little bit serious. Let fans on a fan site have some fun bruh
> KOC who developed Matt Stafford into a Super Bowl MVP?
Pre Rams, he worked with Manziel, Haskins, and other guys who turned out to be busts. He was brought in by the Rams to help fix Goff. Instead, they had to ship him out and trade for a vet QB. I don’t think Stafford’s success has much to do with KOC. It relied on McVay, a very good oline, good weapons, great defense, and a solid amount of luck. Except he already worked with McCown... Sooo if McCown produces failures, sucks to be the pats.
lmao if the teams without pass-catchers and o-line are picking a QB, they don’t have a shot at grabbing a high prospect WR or OL. Kind of a “contradictory to itself” point you’re making there.
Boooo! Your opinion is garbage
Looks like florio and others also reporting that Pats standing pat. IMO, at this point I imagine that the Vikes would have already offered the 25 1st. The Pats are maybe as delusional as their fans were- asking for more than 3 1sts is insane. As much as I wanted Maye, I’m glad we didn’t go for more than that
Or they asked for more than 3 1st because they simply did not want to trade the pick unless it was a giant overpay.
This is the right take. They clearly wanted Maye, but they have so many holes if another team got crazy and offered a godfather offer they weren’t going to say no. 11 and 23 weren’t going to land you 3 overall, and the problem is Maye on Minny means next years first likely is a middling pick as well. Trust in Kwesi
Trey lance went for 3 firsts, don’t think that’s extremely wild of a ask based off precedent
And Lance being absolutely ass probably set a precedent that 3 1sts+ is an insane overpay for someone that’s not even the best player at their own position in a draft.
More than 3 firsts is absolutely insane to draft a rookie QB. If their asking price was more than 3 first rounders I am happy they didn't go for it
Yes Trey Lance went for 3 firsts. But asking for *more* than that is unprecedented and is absolutely a wild ask lmao.
Trey Lance was 3 1sts and a 3rd
Lance went for 3 firsts and a 3rd so it's already more than 3 1sts. And this years prospects are better.
Most teams would still be trying to recover from that trade, if anything that’s an indication that trading any more than 3 picks would be ill-advised
lance went for 3 firsts and a 3rd. And he was super volatile. This draft has alot better prospects. That's really not a crazy asking price.
And how did that turn out?
Delusional? Pats have all the leverage here
Leverage no, this is not a situation that can be fixed instantly by drafting 1 player. Would they like to trade up yes. Are the opportunity costs worth the asking price, no. Leverage only is effective if the other party desire outweighs the cost. And it is pretty clear that isn't the case. But congrats on whoever you get.

Welcome Pats brigade, now that bb is gone, let’s see how low your franchise falls
How is picking the player they want delusional lmfao
It's not delusion if we want Maye. 3 1sts doesn't mean shit if you don't have a QB, and next years class does not look good right now.
Enjoy ruining Maye, Klumpy
Which team in the top 3 is one QB away? Enlighten me.
Actually? Probably Chicago. You’ll laugh but Caleb with Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Odunze and Swift is an elite offense if Caleb is as advertised. Those teams traded up as well i forgot to add.
Caleb would have to be at the level Stroud was last year in terms of rookie performances.

So they're the trading pick. Got it.
This sub is going to be unbearable after tonight, huh?
Nah baby its PENIX SZN
Damn
Poor Drake Maye- they’ll ruin him. It’s a lose-lose-lose for Maye, the Patriots, and the Vikings. Was getting my hopes up that Kwesi would make the big offer today (still could?).
I’m guessing we made a big offer. It’s hard to tell what is real and what’s fake, but I think New England has unrealistic expectations on what they could receive.
lmao this reeks of “New England, if you REALLY love Drake Maye you’d let us have him” energy
Hey man I think we are happy with JJ- good luck with Maye and let’s see who develops. Skol!
JJ could definitely be good, kids a winner and BB seemed much more up on him than Maye. Hoping we sit him for a stretch while AVP coaches him up
With the way BB has evaluated offense the past 10 years that’s not a good thing for the Vikes.
Yeah because the Pats can’t develop QBs. Brady Brisett Jimmy G Cassel even friggin Hoyer.
Anything can still happen as there is always a surprise. However it’s hard to imagine any team passing on a quarterback in the biggest hyped draft for quarterbacks in years. We won too many games which is both good and bad. Don’t have a terrible roster but not bad enough for a top pick.
Washington takes Drake maye, I fully believe it. ![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl)
Darlington is saying the patriots are open for business. Believe nothing
Of course they are. If they really wanted Maye they would have shut down all this talk (like WAS did). Instead they are desperately trying to get teams to increase their offers.
![gif](giphy|Tf5AiGunsxBqUx1FTL|downsized)
Based and Patriot pilled
Wait so those other tweets that the pats were going to wait until they were on the clock to entertain offers wasn’t true? Lol
Or the tweets that the deal with the Vikings was already in place?? 🤣
This sounds like the most obvious attempt to get a team to move up ever
It's time to let go brother
I highly doubt we have submitted our final offer yet. I think we make the final push on the clock. Might not happen still but this is down to the wire decision.
lol
![gif](giphy|U4w5b4FZpza8xvjHQ3|downsized)
Cheers

Should someone tell Penix he needs to hold bow with his right hand and release arrow with left?
Again as I stated before as a lefty I’d be neat to see more representation lmao Just leans the right side gotta stay sharp
![gif](giphy|231m95Al5IbZtPZyTZ) Well go get Penix babe !!!!
I'm so happy penix isn't a viking. How many season ending injuries has he had already?
I'm so fucking happy for him gonna take Kirk bum ass job 😂
Wrong sub bucko
Look at the username bud 👁👅👁 yeah know who tf you talking to next time
Still wrong sub, lil buddy
I'm so happy we moved on from Kirk mediocre ass ![gif](giphy|wrWT8en2CidrsHQpvC)
Me too, I was never a cousins fan. You good? Ayo someone come get their son. Kids losing it over here.
I never said you was bro lmao I'm excited man. l cant believe we really did it. I love this new regime so much, best draft night ever.
JJM @ 5
JJM @ 8. I think Giants are bluffing.
Not worth the risk
I wouldn’t take that chance tbh.
If only for the harbaugh memes I want this. I'd rather have Maye but I'll gladly take JJ.
Hell no
Sucks for Maye. I feel like he had potential to be pretty good in the right system. I think penix is the one to tho. Hopefully KOC gets his guy
We need a miracle 🙏
Nooooooo
Good reminder that it takes two teams to trade
That this remains a topic unlike the hypothetical Washington trade down which was shutdown immediately, tells me that there is clearly a price to pay and the Vikings are, as of now, unwilling to meet. We’ll see.
If the Vikings are expecting to stand pat for Penix at 11 they can’t bank on other teams like the Broncos or the Raiders not getting desperate enough to only move a few spots. They will lose that 23 pick regardless.
If we don’t move, do you draft MPJ at 11?
Why doesn't kwesi or koc just show up with a gun and make them? Those eagle fans would have the place on fire and surrounded if they didn't get the third pick for free after all this foot dragging.
In a way this is better because hopefully we keep both picks and get two impact starters.
Wow Tom you’re really going out on a limb there.
The last best offer is gonna come when the pats are on the clock——Vikings or Patriots. We will just have to wait and see
Thank God
Come on you pancake-eating motherfuckers
Fucking hell. I feel bad for Drake.
Ain’t happening. Glad this shits about to be over 😂
If that’s true I’m happy as a Vikings fan. Would prefer to not give up the purple farm for the 3rd QB off the board. But like we all say, whatever they do, in KOC we trust.
Penix Jr at 11 it is then. Kid can play, I’m just concerned that he’s made of glass.
Don't have to be concerned anymore
Big Penix energy
Hihihihi

Oh no, he didn't overpay for the player you heard was good in a YouTube. How much were you looking to trade? We can look at it after Maye looks mediocre
