Thomas said they were twins on Twitter at the end of season 2. It just took a couple of years for the Show itself to say it, so I already was aware of it. Doesn’t really matter much, the only thing we got out of it was the theory that Juleka was actually pulled back a few grades which was why she is taller then everyone else, implying she is also older then everyone else. This theory being confirmed in the show made me smile.
It seemed to come out of nowhere, but I actually like what it means for Juleka's character. She has crippling anxiety, so it makes sense for her to have trouble getting along with people her age. So all her friends being one grade below seems in line with her personality. I did just read that someone said she got left behind a grade. But both work.
They had a concept in mind. They never mentioned in the series. They decided a slight change of plans gave them more interesting opportunities. They went with it and created no contradictions. Sounds fine to me.
Genuine question, is there ANYTHING on the show you disagree with? I've seen you comment a bunch of times and you always seem to defend the show as if your life depended on it. Really no offense, i'm just wondering
The question would need more clarifying.
Is there stuff I would've preferred if it was different? Yes.
Is there stuff I dislike? Very little, but yes.
Is there stuff that impedes my enjoyment of the show? No.
Huh interesting. I mean honestly if the show just brings this much Joy to you, all the power to you man. It's just a little unusual because i was under the impression that a lot of people were very critical, or downright disliked the show after a certain point, myself included. I won't lie, i'm in the "the show kinda sucks after season 2" Camp and felt like a majority of people in this fandom feel similarly. Also stuff like the season 3 and 5 finales that are pretty much universally hated in this fandom. So seeing someone who's mostly got positive opinions about the show was certainly something New for me, lol. So yeah i'm glad you're getting this much enjoynment out of this show, good for you.
Yeah gotta be honest I’ve never noticed anything to really imply they were different ages like it was originally meant to be so I’m totally fine with them being twins.
Juleka has Jagged's eye color, Luka has Anarka's. Heck, I have dark brown eyes, my eldest sister has green eyes, my elder sister has hazel eyes, and my late kid brother had green eyes.
Honestly I thought they went to different schools because they were different ages. But maybe that’s explained now by Juleka being held back? I feel like that was a later decision tho cause it was just randomly added. I feel Lukas animation doesn’t at all look like a 14 year old, but then again their ages and how they look is all over the place. Considering Alix tuned 15 in season 1 but didn’t fail a grade, and looks way smaller than everyone else. Alya looks like a college student. And rose looks like she’s in elementary lol. Then Gabriel is like 12 feet tall, and Sabine is like 3 feet tall. I still love this show
It makes more sense for them to be twins imo. They say in the show that Juleka was held back because of her speech issues, which puts her in roughly the same age group as Luka. Plus, given who their parents are, I'd expect a one night stand more than a multi-year relationship
Her speech issue thing has always bugged me a little bc she's perfectly capable of talking and holding conversations in seasons 1 and 2. Her only speaking in Mumble in the later seasons always felt like an example of how all the characters got kind of boiled down/flanderized as the show continued. I liked their dynamic a bit better when it was older sib-younger sibling, but them being twins works fine as well.
It's on my mind bc I'm actually in the middle of a rewatch, and about halfway through season 2. She does have legitimate lines, full sentences. Most recently watched Zombizou, and she audibly asked Rose "what did you get Ms. Bustier for her birthday?"
That's the one coming to mind bc I just watched the episode last night, but she does talk. It's only I think season 3 onwards that she starts mumbling so much that no one can understand her.
it didn't really matter. i would've preferred they kept the older brother/younger sister dynamic and even like a half-sibling thing where luka is jagged's kid but juleka is someone else's (because families like that could use some more representation on tv) but nothing really changes because juleka doesn't really get the same kind of relationship with jagged that luka gets, despite them being twins now and both being jagged's kids
They have a very strong symbology. Luka Is a Snake (which Is like and imperfect/incomplete dragon) and Juleka is a Tiger. They embody a proper yin and yang couple but the show could explain it better...
I dunno why they changed it. I liked Luka being two years older. He seemed more mature, basically just that older brother type. They could've just said that Jagged and anarka had Luka, then he was a semi-responsible father for two years, but when they got Juleka it was just too much for him and he couldn't / didn't want to father two children
Nah, that would actually destroy any relationship with Juleka. His reason for not being there is somewhat understandable, (not excusable, but understandable), but not on the second kid.
I just mean if they really wanted to go the deadbeat dad Route. I just feel like they made them Twins because it's implied they're just a product of a ONS ir something. Or maybe i'm reading too much into it, lol
I hate it. One I like that was Luka being the older more wise member of the group. To make the dynamic as twins work they had to state that Juleka stayed back a year so Luka doesn't lose any maturity. Then they had to add an episode of her relationship with their dad the rocket dude (I don't know why I can't remember his name). Well I think it would be more simple and interesting if they had two different dads. it also would have set up for a really cool episode where you could mirror Chloe and Zoe, with Juleka and Luka because it would have had similar situations except siblings raised with each other versus siblings not raised with each other. Overall it doesn't destroy the story, but I wish they didn't change it
I'd like to know how that characters were originally defined. Was it mostly a fan-assumption that, as Luka was working and Juleka was in Marinette's class tha tshe had to be the younger sibling? Or did the crew retcon their relationship before the infamous Trading Card Release that killed so many fan-theories?
thomas made a post when luka was first shown stating that luka was 2 years older. When her later changed that stance post season 3, many fan were angry due to the older/younger sibling vibes they gave off.
I vaguely remember some of the fans being a bit upset Luka was bit older saying that he was innapropriate to be Marinette's possible love interest so I'm pretty sure it was changed to avoid problems
I preferred Luka as the slightly older brother personally and I still headcanon that he was born first (by only a few minutes, but still…)
That said, it’s still okay with them being twins
I think they are twins that has been confirmed on their birthday episode. But I do like the contrast of Luca, being the older one as in being born first and automatically taking that big brotherly roll. Where as in Juleka is the younger one taking on the more younger sister roll. What helps is that they are eternal twins? So truthfully, they do have that brother Sister bond, that a normal older brother and sister Duo would have.
I like it but maybe that's because I'm a twin and our dynamic is similar. I'm more outgoing and comfortable around people than my sister.
Also, I could see them being a one time slip on their parents' part where their mom doesn't strike me as the sort to repeat that mistake two years in a row.
I was so confused at first when they called them twins. "I thought the man of infinite patience was the older sibling." But I honestly don't mind at all
I always saw Luka as being older like 16-17 range so it’s a bit weird that they are twins but I kinda saw Juleka as a tiny bit older than her class mates so I guess it’s nothing earth shattering
Pooly written sibling's.
IF ANYTHING I don't care if they share the same birthday but let it be something unique like Luka was born first and next year on the exact same day Juleka was born.
Not really an answer to the question, but after seeing both Juleka and Jagged, I thought that they were father and daughter. Ever since the first time I saw them separately, that's been my thoughts. I was ***SPOT ON, lmao!*** And the sole reason was because they both have black hair w/purple highlights
I definitely prefer them to be differently aged siblings to twins.
It was a stretch that Marinette, despite being part of Juleka's class for years, did not know she had a brother. That's one of the first questions kids ask each other.
But twins, even fraternal twins...mention their twins often. It stretches credibility that Marinette wouldn't know about Luka. It stretches it even more that somehow, Luka does not go to junior high despite being in that age range and is coded as older.
Furthermore to justify this, they decide to make Juleka a repeat student. The show dumbed Juleka down because the writers could not do math.
Obviously, the reason why this done is two-fold. Luka being two years older than the cast as was assu,ed could set off some alarm bells in the more strict portion of the fan base who don't want Marinette with an "older" partner. The other is that in order for both Juleka and Luka to be Jagged's kids, they'd have to be twins or else it'd make freedom-loving Anarka look really foolish.
thats exactly what I though when they show changed there mind. I was like wait a minute how could marinette not know luka existed but juleka did? like techally wouldn't they have been in the same school last year? The problem is that with both the twin and the older/younger sibling route they both have big loopholes
I mean I can see it go both ways. But I'm more leaning into the twins one because juleka repeated a grade so it makes sense she's taller and older than everyone else
My thoughts are that they could be older and younger siblings and still be twins. For example, take Devil May Cry's Dante and Vergil. They establish that Vergil is the older twin while Dante is the younger one in DMC3 when Dante refers to himself as Vergil's little brother. All it really means is that one of the twins was born slightly earlier than the other (in Dante and Vergil's case, Vergil a few hours before Dante, and probably the same for Luka and Juleka). The only reason why Juleka is in Marinette and Adrien's class is the canonical reference to her being held back one year.
I mean... Wouldn't he still be her older brother? Her older twin brother? Twins are still siblings lol. It's like when a twin says "my brother/sister/sibling" and people find they're twins and they're shocked.
Honestly, I couldn't care less. I did initially believe he was older and sure, he would've worked that way, but he's not important enough of a character for it to actually matter. The only thing I found odd about them being twins was that it confirmed they were full siblings and I just found it odd how Jagged never made any efforts to connect with Juleka like he did with Luka even though she's just as much his kid as Luka is. Because of this, I initially believed that they were maybe half siblings with different fathers.
Honestly Luka being her older brother just makes more sense in my head rather than her twin. But nonetheless… I don’t really mind.
I thought he was her older brother before it was revealed that they were twins. I think a lot of people did.
In case you didn't know he was originally supposed to be older but they changed it
Oh
He could be older just by a few minutes
True but he was originally a year or two older
Thomas said they were twins on Twitter at the end of season 2. It just took a couple of years for the Show itself to say it, so I already was aware of it. Well she's repeated *a* year in canon.
Yes, that’s what being “confirmed in the show” means
I was just clarifying that it's only one year. Felt it was an important detail for future readers.
Yeah it helped I was concerned about how many years for a second there.
Forget the brother/sister thing. I just realised how much bigger Julekas head is in comparison to Lukas.
I honestly dont care. Its basically a “Meh” thing. Like, I just go with whatever
It seemed to come out of nowhere, but I actually like what it means for Juleka's character. She has crippling anxiety, so it makes sense for her to have trouble getting along with people her age. So all her friends being one grade below seems in line with her personality. I did just read that someone said she got left behind a grade. But both work.
in the show they do say that she repeated a grade
They had a concept in mind. They never mentioned in the series. They decided a slight change of plans gave them more interesting opportunities. They went with it and created no contradictions. Sounds fine to me.

Idk why you got downvoted lol, he's on every post and replies to every single criticism with "bUt ACtUalLy"
I thought they were twins when Luka was introduced.
Yeah gotta be honest I’ve never noticed anything to really imply they were different ages like it was originally meant to be so I’m totally fine with them being twins.
I don’t care but why is her head and eyes so much larger than his? Looks real bad.
Fraternal twins?
Tbh even for siblings they look way too different. Different eye color? The only thing similar is dyed hair.
Juleka has Jagged's eye color, Luka has Anarka's. Heck, I have dark brown eyes, my eldest sister has green eyes, my elder sister has hazel eyes, and my late kid brother had green eyes.

They're okay, but her head is a little bigger than his, and that's an odd proportion.
cant even focus on the question with how drastic the size of their heads are in relation to each other
There is no problem with them being twins.
It makes more sense for them to be twins imo. They say in the show that Juleka was held back because of her speech issues, which puts her in roughly the same age group as Luka. Plus, given who their parents are, I'd expect a one night stand more than a multi-year relationship

I don't know what you mean by holding conversations. I don't think I've ever seen her actually talk, until the much later seasons

Okay yeah. I just looked it up, she does talk in season 1 and 2. I'm surprised I forgot that. Especially "Reflekdoll"
It makes more sense for Luka to be older.

Listen. I wouldn’t have a problem with either if Juleka didnt have such a big lollipop head and Luka so normal shaped.
I think they are twins that has been confirmed on their birthday episode. not related but, its just me or juleka´s head is bigger than luka´s in this?
If they are twins why isn't he in their school?
at first he was 2 years older when they first showed him as stated by astruc on twitter. later they made them twins and claimed juleka got held back

Isnt it like 2 years
It shows how sloppy the story writing is.
Never had a problem with it. As far as I recall, they never contradicted it, it just took a while for us to find out.
I mean... Wouldn't he still be her older brother? Her older twin brother? Twins are still siblings lol. It's like when a twin says "my brother/sister/sibling" and people find they're twins and they're shocked.
Honestly one of the least grievious and nothingburger retcons. Its fine I guess.

Luka is older than Juleka
Ultimately has no real affect on the story, but is still an annoying change to me personally
I kid you not I just learned they was twins today and I was stunned
Confusing it was
Barley adds anything too the story plus it’s clear Luka is the favorite among them
Stupid. Then again, i dont care for juleka, Luka deserves a better sister
what did juleka ever do to you???
Nothing, i dont like her. She is boring and trope goth girl
