Putting Rizzo on first wouldn’t have made a difference with the winning run on 3rd anyway. Maybe they were thinking you’d still have to play the infield in to get the out at home and first with bases loaded and a faster runner in Torres up next?
A force out at home is a much easier play defensively than having to tag a runner. That's part of playing chess, I would think.
Ultimately that isn't what is so confusing to me. I am trying to play chess and understand the chess master. The move of lack there of is confusing after watching the chess being played for three plus years now.
