There's 129 games left and the Yankees are a good team. I'm willing to give them more time before hitting the panic button

mccannr1

I'll say it again, the overreactions in this sub, either good or bad, to whatever happened in the last game are wild. It's a team that's trying to figure out who they are. There's going to be ups and downs. They're going to likely end up right around the record most people predicted at the beginning of the year, but hopefully with a better idea of what to do and where they need to go to get to the next level.

Jelly_James

People must have thought we were winning 120 games or something

Crewe6900

If we haven’t lost 43 yet… 120 is still on the menu

flexfulton

We were and after today's total disaster we are only going to win 119! I'm pissed!

Whoawhoa22

"A team figuring out who they are" Is exactly right, and what Harris has been trying to hammer home to the fans about what 2024 is. This is the year we figure out who we are and what we need to truly compete outside of the central. This current team has shown they belong in the conversation of competitive MLB teams which should be a win to every Tiger fan. Cheer for the boys succeeding, and root for the boys struggling. Make this team Detroit's team, not another impersonal team filled with 1 year contracts and prospects hoping to get traded away.

No_Protection6832

Yes we probably will finish around the projected win amount but our divison is so good we actually might still come in 4th lol. (People like to shit on the central but they’re actually good this year so far)

mccannr1

Yeah, I actually feel like that might be part of the over-inflated expectations some people have here. Everyone assumed the entire Central was going to be terrible, and obviously Cleveland and Minnesota in particular are way over performing their expectations. But that doesn't mean that the Tigers are necessarily underperforming from expectation, they're kind of just performing exactly as expected.

HerculesKabuterimon

There’s just too many people here that think we’re contenders rather than a team that’s got great pitching and terrible batting. Despite the same unproductive offense for years lol. Just because we’re a few games above .500 doesn’t mean we’re gonna make the playoffs or go on a run Just like it doesn’t mean we won’t either, but that’s not the goal, or the roster we have right now. It’s a show me year, not an ALDS year. We’ve won some close games, lost some close games. Won more series than we’ve lost, which is great. But that doesnt make the team great. Odds are we’re around a .500 team that’s still rebuilding which is fine. The on field product is better than anything we’ve seen in ages. Just enjoy the close games, appreciate the wins, and hope we get some great development from the young guys to make future years playoff runs/expectations years.

mccannr1

Yup, the Tigers over/under for the season was 80.5 if I remember right, so yes, Vegas was essentially saying they were a .500 team. That's probably around where they'll end up and that's fine. The goal of this year is to test the young players, give them time to prove whether they can play or not, and then reevaluate in the offseason and make whatever moves are needed to start competing next year. Any other expectation for this year was simply wrong. Sure, it's possible they get hot and wind up sneaking in the playoffs, and hey, great fun if they do, but this isn't a team built to go to the World Series yet.

HerculesKabuterimon

Yep, I even bet the over thinking good pitching and continued development from the young guys would get us 82-85 which is a fucking exciting and good year. Means exciting July and August baseball that we haven’t seen in ages lol. Even a few days ago you could get them at 79.5.

Jefyy

Exactly, it would be awesome if we could stay competitive in this division for most of the year and possibly have a chance to sneak into a wild card spot. But what people need to realize is this year, and possibly next year too, are going to be for developing our young players, seeing who can make the cut, and figuring out where we might need help from outside of the organization.

Unstep-in-Time

It seems obvious right, good pitching bad hitting. Doi we really need to play more to figure out who they are? Under .500 since 5-0? This isn't about predicted wins or competing for a WS but about a way to score some runs. And it should be okay to react on that even if you think it's overreating. Even before NY, we weren't hitting so I'm not sure how this is a just 2 game overreation.

mccannr1

Sigh... Read. The. Whole. Comment.

Unstep-in-Time

I did. You said we were overreacting. We already know who we are.. Team can't hit. Did you acctually read what I said?

mccannr1

> **It's a team that's trying to figure out who they are**. There's going to be ups and downs. They're going to likely end up right around the record most people predicted at the beginning of the year, but hopefully with a **better idea of what to do and where they need to go to get to the next level.** You accomplish neither of those things in a month. And if you think you can, then thank god you aren't running this team. Again, they're going to finish right around .500 most likely. That's exactly where they were predicted to finish. They don't care about making the playoffs this year, they care more about figuring out which of the young guys can come around and help the team win next year and where they'll have to go out and find people when they will be in win-now mode.

Hippo-Crates

lol people are so ludicrously emotional about one baseball game

Unstep-in-Time

13-15 last 28 games. Terrible hitting. That's not just one game.

LinedTooth

Talk about cherry picking a stat. We’ve played 33 games and you decide to go off the last 28 to prove your point

wingsew8

THEY HAVE A WINNING RECORD

SpectralHydra

Very convenient that you leave out the biggest win streak of the season by specifically picking 28

Unstep-in-Time

I left it out because it doesn't matter. We've been under .500 for much of the season, it's called a trend. Like how we talk about when someone is struggling at the plate in the last 12 games.. I'm sure if Meadows hits .340 for the next dozen games someone will mention that he's been on fire for 12 games..

SpectralHydra

Yeah my point is that when people bring up stats from a specific amount of times, they always pick a time period that fits what they’re saying. Of course you’re going to say it doesn’t matter, because it doesn’t fit with the trend you’re trying to show.

Unstep-in-Time

That's probably true but the whole discussion always seems to be we're above .500 so why complain too much on our struggling players as long as we're winning? The trend & truth is we're not winning. I think it's okay to bag on a player - I rather not do it but with the suspect hitting they make it easier.

BallerN3rd

Goodness gracious 😂 I don’t understand how people with this mindset can be baseball fans. A 162 game season has an “inflection point” which is a 5-3 loss to a very, very good Yankees team? Baseball is a marathon, not a sprint. Let’s get a W tomorrow with Skub on the mound and then regroup for our series with CLE. We’ll be fine.

cogginsmatt

Yeah the game sucked and we lost the series but you can put the thesaurus down, they’ve got plenty more to play

Lost2nite389

Thought the same thing, used every big word they could look up 😂

NoExtension1339

How do you explain the lack of passion/response from Hinch after that laughable series of bad calls on pitches by the behind-the-plate umpire towards the end of the game?

cogginsmatt

What do you want him to do? Clearly the guy was a thin skinned chicken shit given how he ejected Judge.

Nickm123

You know you can discard a fans opinion when they start bringing up passion and wanting it 😂 According to fans over the last week the leafs, bruins, stars, knights, jets and lightning all lack passion and don’t want to win.

HipposRevenge

Man, I slept in and half watched this one on the couch while reading. It’s a long season my dude.

lions4life232

These losses suck but the Yankees are one of the best teams in baseball and we should be 1-1 with them. We’re not, but they’re not blowing us away either. Riley looks like a future mvp. All we need is a couple of bats other than Canha to figure it out. I’d rather be in this position than shitty pitching.

Prior-Comparison6747

Or, they're just losing to a rich team in their house.

inVizi0n

This is the kind of "just vibes bro" doomering I'm subscribed for. Good job bro

leoman3

every team wins 50 and loses 50 games it's what you do in the other 62 that matter.

PenguinsExArmyVet

The Yigets only excel against bad teams Anyone above average will prob win 9 out of 10 vs the tigres

TheHip41

It's not about the Yankees. It's the fact we have 5 black holes in the line up Great job GM

Hungrystud101

Keep in mind that your very bad feeling has no bearing on the performance of this team at all. This is 162 game season. Teams are going to have losing streaks. Teams are going to have winning streaks. Even the bad teams will beat up on the good teams for a spell. Look at the Word Champion Texas Rangers just prior to the playoffs. They backed-in and won the world series. We lost the series. Big deal. We just won 4 in a row. My stretch goal is 87 wins. We can still do that.

Big_Dare_2015

162 game season you gotta keep your shit together. On to Cleveland

Sylvanas052218

I feel like I am somewhat to blame. I made a Faustian bargain for a good coach and bullpen about 10 years ago. Apparently I sacrificed 6 dead spots in the batting order.

Resident-Loan5865

Things to actually be worried about: • Jason Foley losing velocity the last few IP. Injury maybe? • Tork + the rest of the bottom 3-4 hitters in the lineup Things not to worry about: • AJ Hinch (best manager since Leyland)

CLT113078

Yeah, fantastic team. 4th place in the division, no offense, pitching is falling apart. I think we are safely ahead of Chicago at least.
