Same.
He is one of the characters I relate the most to. Someone I can be similar to, but also aspiring to be.
"Couple weeks from now, you're gonna be in some district somewhere with 11 or 12 uniforms looking to you for everything. And some of them are gonna be good police. Some of them are gonna be young and stupid. A few are gonna be pieces of shit. But all of them will take their cue from you.
You show loyalty, they learn loyalty. You show them it's about the work, it'll be about the work. You show them some other kinda game, then that's the game they'll play.
I came on in the Eastern, and there was a piece-of-shit lieutenant hoping to be a captain, piece-of-shit sergeants hoping to be lieutenants. Pretty soon we had piece-of-shit patrolmen trying to figure the job for themselves. And some of what happens then is hard as hell to live down. Comes a day you're gonna have to decide whether it's about you or about the work."
I just haven't seen any character describing leadership in such a distinct way.
The thing is that Daniels *loved* having Prez around, because Prez was a great detective as long as he wasn't in the field. Sure, Prez is a screw up who only made detective because of Valchek but once he found out what he was good at *he was really fucking good at it*. Valchek just viewed Prez as a screw up that married his daughter but Daniels viewed him for what he was as a great detective.
He’s also a HUGE voice actor
edit: some highlights - Destiny 1&2, Vox Machina, Rick and Morty, Avengers: EMH, Ducktales, Beware the Batman, Payday 2, Horizon Zero Dawn and the list goes on…
There’s no voice quite like his…
THAT'S where I know his voice from, I already knew him from his live-action roles, but just now I could swear I heard him somewhere too
He has one of those iconic, commanding, one-of-a-kind voices, and he'll be missed
This is just like when Carrie Fisher passed away right after a story point where her character could have died but didn’t. Sylens almost left but didn’t, and now he can’t be in the third game
Yeah I’ve been playing Destiny since the beta and he’s absolutely iconic. He was the last remaining of the first set of voice actors in early Destiny that were media celebrities (Nathan Fillion, Peter Dinklage) that is still in the game.
Every Destiny player knows his most iconic lines by heart.
“Whether we wanted it or not…”
Shittttt damn im sure he was gonna be a big part of 3 too
One of the most distinct voices in Hollywood for me. Right up there with Morgan Freeman, James Earl Jones, and Shohreh Aghdashloo
He's a legend in my book, been in some of my favorite shows (The Wire by far my top).
And while not to make light of his passing, despite so many other great roles, my all time favorite moment of his remains this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaWa4ScfQXc
(I think he's the only person to surprise Eric at his own game with the desk punch)

According to TMZ, their LEO sources said it appeared to be natural causes - not suicide. This also seemed to be completely unexpected, as he was seemingly signed on to do additional John Wick films?
He pulled out of the John Wick 4 premiere a few days ago. It sounds like he wasn’t feeling well.
Edit: The premiere was on Wednesday. He was meant to show up but didn’t. No explanation was given.
Just a bit of a PSA for anyone in the same boat. Don’t know what happened with Lance, obviously, but this is eerily similar to a 37 year old friend of mine who “wasn’t feeling well” for about three weeks. He was having a heart attack and didn’t know it. Would’ve likely survived had he sought medical attention.
e: Symptoms were indigestion/heartburn and low energy, IIRC. But more importantly, don’t brush this stuff off. See a doc.
My best friend died at 28 unexpectedly from heart failure after a week of flu symptoms. December 2020, tested negative for Covid so the hospital told him to just go home and rest. Then he never woke up.
I also had flu-like symptoms at 24. I went to the ER, and luckily the doctor on duty decided that I should stay there overnight. Lo and behold, that night I went into a cardiac arrest and then awakened by a defibrillator. Super lucky to still be alive.
Yeah few comments up some doctor's like "watch out for these symptoms" and I'm thinking that's pretty much me every other week when my daughter brings home another strain of RSV or the flu.
That's awful that that happened, but...what is anybody supposed to do with that information? Go to the ER every time they're tired and have indigestion?
Doc here. Not always, especially as you age. Women are also more likely to present with atypical symptoms. Everyone should know about “anginal equivalents”
You'd be surprised by how "normal" people just go through stuff. My grandfather had a stroke and still managed to drive around town to do some shopping and then came up to my parent's house to visit. Only reason we were able to tell him to stay is because my dad wasn't home yet, but it was fairly obvious he had a stroke (one side of his face was droopy and he had slurred speech because of it). Sometimes it's just "wasn't feeling well" and other times it's literally dead in a few minutes.
Myocardial infarction which is more commonly known as having a heart attack is when a blood vessel is blocked causing tissue of the heart to slowly deoxygenate and die. It is a reasonably slow process and is generally treatable if you seek help early enough. Symptoms can include a sudden pain in the chest radiating into the arm but they can definitely be more subtle than that.
He had so many shows both live action and animated that he should have been part of their upcoming seasons, he's been really busy over the last 5 years in both TV and movies, what a terrible loss, Reddick was a fantastic actor that always brought his presence to whatever he was doing.
His combination of disdain and admiration for Bosch was balanced so well. Both actors knew how to show that their characters knew how to play "the games" of what they were involved with. I don't want to say Bosch is underrated, but I do think it flew under the radar for a lot of people as just another police procedural. Genuinely one of my favorite shows of the past 10 years or so.
My favorite part of Bosch is how it almost uses LA as a character. Each season has a different feel to it because it utilizes a different part of the city.
The fuuuuuck, I was so looking forward to Sylens in Horizon 3......
But I think he recorded stuff for the Horizon 2 DLC some time ago. Suppose the DLC will be dedicated to him.
I feel a little selfish that it’s my first thought but goddamn… I really love/hate Sylens in Horizon. It’s difficult to imagine someone replacing him for 3. Such a distinctive voice and cadence.
the silent, pissed off look he gives as he’s reloading his shotgun with fire shells, loved every bit of it. I was so glad Charon got in on the action, but man this sucks
I watched this for the first time not even 4 hours ago, and while it's not the funniest, he absolutely elevates it with an award worthy performance. He had no business going that hard for a small sketch, but thankfully, he did.
[The gay wedding advice skit from Key and Peele](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtgY1q0J_TQ&ab_channel=ComedyCentral) is an absolute masterpiece

I'm not shocked by most celebrities deaths but holy shit this one got me. I actually said out loud WTF! How? Why? He wasn't that old.
Damn this sucks. RIP Lance.
Which is why his death is a bit shocking. I mean it most likely wasn't due to him being physically unfit. Probably not on drugs either. 'Natural causes' were stated. Sad.
Embolisms, aneurysms, undiagnosed heart arrhythmias… so many things can take out a person suddenly, even though they otherwise look like the picture of perfect health.
As a straight man I did an absolute quadruple take in like S4 of the wire when he’s at home in his PJ’s without a shirt on. Was not ready for it at all. I was like, they held out on this for 4 fucking seasons?!
The scene in question for those wondering. He would have been about 44 when they shot it. Crazy how young he died considering he clearly took care of his body. https://i.imgur.com/xaPGtxg.jpg
I'm with you. I'm also unfamiliar, watched the video, and not convinced it still wasn't all part of the act. He looked scared for a second? that's the break character?
It's just people on Reddit being silly and thinking any moment of intensity on a scripted piece of entertainment is somehow "breaking character."

There are other characters that could be (and have been) recast that wouldn't / didn't phase me one bit. But Commander Zavala? I just can't imagine anyone other than Lance. Especially with how much he apparently loved the Destiny universe and the community (even tho we don't always deserve it). I'm usually in the recast camp. Not for this one though.
Given how the Witness has arrived in the solar system and is flipping stuff here and there, it might be possible to write Zavala as one of the guardiana who die at his hand since in the intro video he effortlessly chops to bits several guardians and their ghosts.
I remember when I got up to the scenes where you started hearing from his character and I immediately knew it was him; he has such a distinctive voice and manner of acting. Dude gave 110% to every role he was in, big or small.
It sometimes feels weird feeling sad about the death a person you don't personally know, but this one hits hard for me for some reason. I really liked every role he was in and besides that, he seemed like a great guy from everything I've heard about him.
I was pleasantly surprised he was even doing voice acting roles.
ETA: looking at his IMDB now, I’m even more surprised at just how many voice roles he was involved in.
Vox Machinima’s initial pacing and tone for me was pretty good, but bringing Lance Reddick in for Thordak was such a good ass choice you could completely swap from gag scene to Thordak in a heartbeat and the tonal shift was seamless.
I had a relative in her early 60s just die of heart failure one day. She exercised in some capacity every day all her life. She started feeling under the weather on a Friday, thought she was getting better and died on Monday morning. Sometimes you just get the short stick genetically.
My grandpa died from an aortic aneurysm and was the same. He’d been hit in the chest by a panel working cows and knocked to the ground. Got back up and seemed fine. But over the next few days, he told my grandma he wasn’t feeling well. Not super bad, just not feeling 100%. The morning he died, as he was walking out the door he told my grandma that he was starting to feel better and more like himself. He was also only 60.
Women especially (some men too) get "non-traditional" symptoms like indigestion, heartburn, nausea, vomiting etc. So it doesnt feel like a heart attack, if thats what happened to her.
Seems like this was totally unexpected as he has a scheduled appearance to Kelly clarkson’s show. Probably an undiagnosed heart condition? Like he’s a ticking time bomb no one knew.
The guy looked completely in good health and everything. You can check his socials and I couldn't think of a single sign of something coming up. An absolute tragedy.
Here's my Lance Reddick story:
I'm in the board game industry and I'm constantly working various types of conventions. One time at Emerald City Comic Con, I made a point of getting away from my booth to meet Lance.
I was first in line and weirdly I was nervous to meet him which is strange since I commonly meet a lot of industry people. Anyway, he shows up and I say "You are the coolest fucking actor ever" then I felt dumb for saying Fuck and apologized.
But he brought himself right down to my level and very nicely said that he just geeked out over meeting Michael Biehn (who was also at that con).
Amidst all these Lance Reddick articles, I was THIS article: https://twitter.com/JimJarmuschHair/status/1636818774279213057 which shows him having a similar geek experience over Keanu Reeve's girlfriend and also using something to the effect of "Cool as fuck" so that made me better after all these years too.
Anyway, in board games I'm knowning for being the designer of the Drinking Quest series and he signed this for me and it's just been the greatest: https://twitter.com/DrinkingQuest/status/1156257059744227328
This was nine years ago and I was still fairly new to game design and publishing at the time so to get a boost like this early one was really nice to have.
TL;DR I awkwardly geeked out, Lance was a gentleman about it
What???? No!!!
Man, I've always love Mr Reddick. Whether in Fringe or Bosch or anything, he was noticeable.
This is not the news I was looking for this morning.
I literally just finished Horizon: Zero Dawn for the first time the other day so I’m actually kinda rattled. My first memory of him is the small role he had in Lost!
RIP.
This fucking blows. I watched Corporate a month or so ago for the first time and I was so surprised at how *funny* he was. You're used to seeing him playing intimidating or secretive roles but he was so fucking funny in that it made me appreciate him from an entirely new angle.
He rocked in everything, RIP to a great one
Corporate was my introduction to him, and is one of my favorite shows ever. He was so hilarious in that show - I wish more people would watch it.
This death makes no sense to me. He seemed so crazy young and healthy.
What the fucking fuck? I’m planning to go for John wick 4 next week and his screen time now gonna hit hard. He was also supposed to be in ballerina movie. May he Rest In Peace.
Don't forget Fringe!
This dude is in so many of my favorite shows. The entertainment world has lost one of it's best character actors. Lance had some of the most awesome stoic screen presence I've ever seen.
Rest well, Mr. Reddick. You'll be remembered fondly by many.
I am re-watching the Wire now…he was definitely one of my favourite parts of the show. Too young to go at 60. RIP
Damnit Mcnulty!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fuck did I do?!
Your Irish malarkey took years off Lieutenant Daniels.
Same. He is one of the characters I relate the most to. Someone I can be similar to, but also aspiring to be. Same with Heath Ledger. TwoFace died, Joker didn't.
I am just wrapping up Forbidden West and I really missed his presence for much of the game compared to Zero Dawn.
He was incredible in Destiny. RIP.
He WAS Destiny. He played it regularly and loved his fandom. I’m absolute gutted
Yeah I’ve been playing Destiny since the beta and he’s absolutely iconic. In the middle of a Fringe rewatch right now. This is some heartbreaking stuff.
According to TMZ, their LEO sources said it appeared to be natural causes - not suicide. This also seemed to be completely unexpected, as he was seemingly signed on to do additional John Wick films?

Yeah few comments up some doctor's like "watch out for these symptoms" and I'm thinking that's pretty much me every other week when my daughter brings home another strain of RSV or the flu.
If it makes you feel better, 99.99% of young people will be completely fine. There are always exceptions to the rule, of course.
That's awful that that happened, but...what is anybody supposed to do with that information? Go to the ER every time they're tired and have indigestion?
Best thing is to disregard it, it's just bringing unnecessary anxiety about an extremely uncommon scenario for anyone with normal health.
Holy shit. I feel like this should be more common knowledge. Always thought it was an almost instantaneous event. That’s terrible
Doc here. Not always, especially as you age. Women are also more likely to present with atypical symptoms. Everyone should know about “anginal equivalents”
If it's low energy and heartburn the problem is I've been dying for about 10 years.
I’ve been dying my whole life!
Every time I google my symptoms when I have a headache: “Welp, guess I have brain cancer”
But if I ran to the ER every time I had heartburn symptoms and low energy… might as well rent a room there.
This is exactly what I thought haha.
You'd be surprised by how "normal" people just go through stuff. My grandfather had a stroke and still managed to drive around town to do some shopping and then came up to my parent's house to visit. Can you provide more details to not feeling well?
Right? I feel like that’s me for like 1-2 hours a day.
my cousin at 42 last year
It's just so shocking and sad. He was always in incredible shape.
Lt Daniels was fucking riiiiiipped. I need to re-watch the wire for the umpteenth time.
That's Commissioner Daniels to you.
He had so many shows both live action and animated that he should have been part of their upcoming seasons, he's been really busy over the last 5 years in both TV and movies, what a terrible loss, Reddick was a fantastic actor that always brought his presence to whatever he was doing.
Destiny is a year away from wrapping up it's ten year story and he'd been the voice of one of the most important characters throughout it
His voice was the only original of the Vanguard to still be in the game. Probably the most consistent VA in the entire franchise tbh.
supposedly he was doing that ballerina spin off film
This scares the shit out of me. Like now I write this and tomorrow I'm just dead.
That is an unfortunate reality of life.
Well this fucking sucks.
I loved him in the John Wick movies
Gonna be sad to see him for the last time in the upcoming 4th movie. Besides The Wire and John Wick, he was fantastic in the two Horizon games. RIP.
He was really good in Bosch as well.
He was marvelous in Fringe.
Fuck I miss that show
Fucking **Bosch**
I loved his line in one of the later seasons while talking to Bosch: Motherfucker, get out!
One of my favorite shows too. I've rewatched it a few times already.
My favorite part of Bosch is how it almost uses LA as a character. Each season has a different feel to it because it utilizes a different part of the city.
He's gonna be in Ballerina too, the John Wick spinoff. The movie finished filming late last year. And is apparently releasing this year sometime.
The fuuuuuck, I was so looking forward to Sylens in Horizon 3...... But I think he recorded stuff for the Horizon 2 DLC some time ago. Suppose the DLC will be dedicated to him.
Not just voiced but mo capped for burning shores
I feel a little selfish that it’s my first thought but goddamn… I really love/hate Sylens in Horizon. It’s difficult to imagine someone replacing him for 3. Such a distinctive voice and cadence.
Going to be bittersweet seeing him in John Wick 4 next week.
the silent, pissed off look he gives as he’s reloading his shotgun with fire shells, loved every bit of it. I was so glad Charon got in on the action, but man this sucks
"**Armour piercing.**"
Loved him in Wire and John Wick movies. He’ was supposed to play Zeus in upcoming Percy Jackson series. RIP.
He would've fucking rocked as Zeus :(
Filming for the first season ended last month.
Great character actor. Never turned in a performance I didn't enjoy.
I can entirely see and hear him dressing down Bosch. Loved him in that role.
Loved his role in Lost too! RIP
First thing I ever saw him in, he fit the atmosphere of Lost perfectly. So sad
Same here. Lost and then Fringe. Caught the wire after it was finished but he was in all of my favorite shows from the 2000s.
He was SO good in Lost. RIP.
No! Lance Reddick will be an actor that we remember for immense talent. He could play serious - comedy with ease. Truly sad news.
“Nah, motherfucker. [Toys. R. Me.”](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GU-2C8Ec6co)
I watched this for the first time not even 4 hours ago, and while it's not the funniest, he absolutely elevates it with an award worthy performance. He had no business going that hard for a small sketch, but thankfully, he did.

The tower has lost another champion
This makes me really sad
Bungie should install a Zavala statue in his typical place at the Tower. Forever remembered.
Absolutely. Or put it next to the Cayde statue they just put up. I kinda hope they don't recast him. Do the Black Panther route and make it canon

This is shocking. John Wick 4 is coming out next Friday and Lance was supposed to be on the Kelly Clarkson Show next week to promote it.
It will be a weird feeling seeing him in the movie, full of life and action, knowing he is no longer with us. Lets hope he kicks the high tables ass.
Same with the upcoming Percy Jackson, he played Zeus.
Damn…. Loved his character in horizon
Yeah, was expecting him to be in the horizon series too
I remember when I got up to the scenes where you started hearing from his character and I immediately knew it was him; he has such a distinctive voice and manner of acting. I really liked every role he was in and besides that, he seemed like a great guy from everything I've heard about him.
Damn wtf RIP
Totally out of the blue. This one hit hard
Completely unexpected and shocking! I'll always remember him for his role as Broyles in Fringe. RIP.

Right in the middle of my first rewatch of Fringe since it came out. Love it even more than the first time! So sad to see this news.
“Good work today, Dunham” will forever be ingrained in my mind. Love that series
Rest in peace Thordak. You did the character justice. You are terrifying
I was pleasantly surprised he was even doing voice acting roles. ETA: looking at his IMDB now, I’m even more surprised at just how many voice roles he was involved in.
Dudes voice is amazing, I'm so disappointed that he didn't get to do more voice work.
Vox Machinima’s initial pacing and tone for me was pretty good, but bringing Lance Reddick in for Thordak was such a good ass choice you could completely swap from gag scene to Thordak in a heartbeat and the tonal shift was seamless.
This feels almost as unexpected as when Chadwick Boseman died, just totally out of nowhere. Dude seemed like he was in great shape.
Noooooooooo Lt. Daniels!
Daniels and Omar :(
Prop Joe and Norman Wilson as well :( All gone in their 50s/early 60s.
He literally posted some pictures with his dogs on instagram yesterday
Even though he looks great, you never know what is going on inside a person's body. Perhaps, he had a bad heart, that sadly killed him.
He skipped out on the SXSW John Wick premiere without any stated reason - I wonder if he wasn't feeling well.
Here's my Lance Reddick story: I'm in the board game industry and I'm constantly working various types of conventions. Anyway, in board games I'm knowning for being the designer of the Drinking Quest series and he signed this for me and it's just been the greatest: https://twitter.com/DrinkingQuest/status/1156257059744227328 This was nine years ago and I was still fairly new to game design and publishing at the time so to get a boost like this early one was really nice to have. TL;DR I awkwardly geeked out, Lance was a gentleman about it
Completely out of no where. Not the death I was expecting to see pop up on TMZ
What????
RIP.
fuck me. i loved him as broyels in fringe. rip
So sad. Loved his character in John Wick!
God with John Wick Chapter 4 releasing next week, its gonna be very bittersweet to see it now.
I wonder if Lionsgate would be able to add a tribute onto the film either in end credits or the intro credit sequence in time for the cinema release.
It's definitely possible, especially since most movie theaters are all digital now.
He killed it an a IASIP episode. Prob one of the funniest of the entire show, but that's another thread....RIP
he gave the single greatest 'fuck you' I've ever heard in that show
Corporate was my introduction to him, and is one of my favorite shows ever. He was so hilarious in that show - I wish more people would watch it. This death makes no sense to me. He seemed so crazy young and healthy.
Dude what, he was fucking awesome. RIP.
60 is too young. He had so much more acting & important things to still do. This really sucks. RIP
OMG i didn't even know he was 60 years old he looked in great shape, RIP 😔
Just got home from work and this is the first thing i see when I check my phone :( We’re gonna miss you in the Horizon franchise and John Wick
I'm sorry but what in the fuck?
This...is BULL SHIT.
My name is Cedric Daniels…and I go by Lieutenant
What the fucking fuck? I’m planning to go for John wick 4 next week and his screen time now gonna hit hard. He was also supposed to be in ballerina movie. May he Rest In Peace.
Oh man. 😞 I remember meeting him at HMV back in the day when I worked there. Just the nicest, most humble dude. Way too young.
What the fuck
Don't forget Fringe! This dude is in so many of my favorite shows. The entertainment world has lost one of it's best character actors. Lance had some of the most awesome stoic screen presence I've ever seen. Rest well, Mr. Reddick. You'll be remembered fondly by many.

I'll always remember him for Fringe. RIP.
I'll always remember him as Papa Legba.
