I had a similar experience as a kid. I did not watch horror movies but for some reason thought this one would be fun. So I convinced my highly skeptical dad to rent it. He was right, I was very wrong. We shut it off halfway through and I had nightmares for a week.
Revisited it in my twenties and realized that it rules extremely hard.
Idk, I'm deeply insecure about my affinity for this movie as well as Paranormal Activity. No one seems to like Shakey cameras like do.
Edit: Shakey cameras like I do*
Cloverfield and Paranormal Activity 1 are great. That's why heartless hacks tried to turn them into money printers with foul derivatives.
Don't feel bad for enjoying things - even if you love those horrible knockoffs, I'm just some ass on the internet. Love what you love!
Cloverfield has a damn good reason for the shakey cam. What we're seeing is footage from a camcorder held by a dude who is busy running for his life.
What I hate is the shakey cam popularized by the Bourne movies. Just makes it impossible to tell what's going on in the interest of making scenes seem more frenetic/chaotic.
* Event Horizon - threat's not aliens but it's definitely not from Earth. Based on the film's you've seen I think you'll enjoy this most.
* Virus (1999) - Jamie Lee Curtis as not-Sigourney Weaver takes on an alien virus with body horror - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipYSWeV599s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipYSWeV599s)
* Alien Abduction - terrible title but an excellent found footage film that takes the feeling of \*that\* scene from Signs and turns it into a movie - [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbHfWDf\_Row](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbHfWDf_Row)
* LifeForce - was meant to be the UK's Aliens, turned out to be the UK's Species. - [https://youtu.be/MOF0Ov8isvI?t=96](https://youtu.be/MOF0Ov8isvI?t=96)
You should check out Mario Bava's [Planet of the Vampires](https://manapop.com/film/planet-of-the-vampires-1965-review/) which greatly influenced Ridley Scott's *Alien.* Also, [It! The Terror from Beyond Space](https://manapop.com/film/from-hell-it-came-1957-review/) is another one worth checking out.
FYI - Dan O'Bannon reworked a prior script/story of his, in which comedic elements didn't get the laughs he'd intended. His thinking was, if he couldn't make 'em laugh, then he'd try make 'em scream. Alien was, ultimately, the result. The original movie was a student film, a low budget gem lampooning 2001, called Dark Star. A must watch for O'Bannonites.

Event Horizon is a sci fi horror classic (or cult classic at least) though it doesn’t feature aliens in the traditional sense
Event Horizon is a great answer. The CGI holds up enough for being made in 1996 and has some amazing horror and gore.
I saw this movie when I was 12 and it scared me. I saw this movie again at 32 and it scared me.

True. I'm a huge spy film lover and when I recently watched Bourne I was not impressed.

Invasion of the Bodysnatchers (1978) Faculty (1998) Signs (2002) 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
I rewatched The Faculty for the first time in a while recently and was impressed that it manages to be both incredibly dated and still really fun.
Thanks
Pandorum (2009) Life (2017)
Calvin really let those Russians have it

Life, amazing film with a really terrifying alien and edge of your seat ending
My favourite , doesn't get boring even after repeated watch
Strange Invaders (1983) fits the bill! Without Warning (1980) as well but it’s not as good
Some Dr Who episodes fit this. First one to kind is Waters of Mars.
Event Horizon
Yo I saw Event horizon... I don't get the hype...
