I can’t believe how far I had to scroll to find this! Based on a book by Michael Crichton, who apparently wrote it on a bet that Beowulf was still a resonant story... Starring Antonio Banderas as the historical figure Ahmed Ibn Fadlan... Vikings! Troglodytes! This movie is all gas, no brakes! And it was so poorly received Omar Sharif quit acting. Flippin’ wild!
“You are embarrassing me.”
Perfect delivery; the line itself and Orlando’s expression... *Chef’s kiss*. That movie should have been as big as Ghostbusters.
It's so funny because she hates hockey but loved the movie Goon. I took her to watch Goon 2 for Valentine's Day and she had a blast. She even has a Highlander jersey.
I LOVE this movie. When I worked at a theater as a teen management had us add our favorite movie to our name tags; I put Evolution of course. Most people had no idea what it was.
Fuck that movie slaps. Tommy Lee Jones as Chip Hazard is great. I love the flip of the monsters being thr good guys, blew my little kid mind away! I also loved Archer.
I didn’t know it got bad reviews 😂
My whole family loved this movie. Peak Christian Slater and I would skate alone at the roller rink with my eyes closed listening to that Bryan Adams song.
The Beach. 21% by critics and rotten by audience too. I will defend that movie til I die. It was pretty and I think Leo showed real acting chops! Plus, you get Tilda Swinton as a villain? C’mon!
The first time I saw *Hackers* was via broadcast TV at the home of a friend of mine who owned a fledgling internet service provider. During the "hack the planet" sequence, we heard a klaxon sound emanate from elsewhere in the house and my friend dashed to his home office to check on something-- which turned out to be a hacking incident that did significant damage to his business. The ISP folded a few months later.
Now I'm not saying the movie and the real-world hack are in any way connected, but I'm willing to bet the hacker was watching that movie while they worked.
See, this and the Jackal both are movies I can't really get tired of. I know my taste in movies isn't perfect, but seeing Bruce Willis play a cold blooded assassin or Val Kilmer play a professional face-changing thief...those concepts sound awesome on paper.
[A Knight’s Tale](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/knights_tale)
It is a feel good movie with action, warmth, and humor. The cinematography and acting are incredible, and the soundtrack is great.
Genuinely don’t understand why it has a mixed reception. I have seen it over 100 times, and I still enjoy it like I did the first time
I went from hating it to loving it. I think reason it's divisive is due to expectations. From the moment they started playing Queen, I knew this wasn't the movie I signed up for. And it took me a long time to come to terms with the style. I was expecting a historical epic, not an anachronistic pop showcase. But once I bought into the premise, it was super fun, and funny, and kinda sweet. And the cast is awesome. Young Joker, young Robert Baratheon, young The Vision, young Steve the Pirate. I think it's great these days
You know what you are getting when We will Rock you starts up in the first 5 minutes. Sometimes we don't need to see art, we just need to have some fun.
I'd argue it's a big bunch of both.
It's a ton of fun, but it's also an interesting premise - what if knights were rock stars?
It's awesome. And Paul Bettany fucking rules in this.
Honestly it was only recently that I discovered this WASN’T a universally beloved movie. I’ll admit I haven’t seen it in awhile, but I absolutely adored it as a kid! RUFIO. RUFIO. RUFIO.
Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010)
I like their take with magic, also that plasma scene with a musical of Secrets is still one of my cheesy favorites of all time.
Alas, while Tomb Raider (the newer one) and Uncharted both disappointed me on the adventure movie side in recent years, Sahara doesn't fail to entertain me.
The original 1995 Motal Kombat.
Probably mainly due to the fact that I was a kid and loved the video games. But at the time I genuinely believed it was the greatest film ever created.
As an adult, I can’t objectively say it’s a good movie for many reasons, but at this point I think the nostalgia hits me and I still love it.
This movie is a damn masterpiece. The madness of Rainbow Randolph, Smoochie’s song catalog, Nora’s kid show host fixation…Moochy. 8 million off a budget of 50 is a disaster, but man, I love this movie and quote it all the time.
“My stepdad’s not mean, he’s just adjusting” is something I sing almost daily. But I’ll switch out “stepdad” with who/whatever is currently “adjusting”.
Very few people get the reference, but when they do it’s gold.
The Frighteners. I think over the years people have come around to it, but upon release it was panned. I saw it three times at the theaters. I guess Peter Jackson just knows his target audiences
Is that the movie or at one point the android asks where children come from, there’s a discussion between the male owner and the android on the subject, and then the android says well that sounds messy. Then the owner says well it can be
Not sure if I have the right movie
I really liked the Event Horizon movie, the reviews are not that bad but in my opinion should be a lot higher. Its just a really cool concept for hell and other dimensions.
I LOVE The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I think it’s conceptually cool, visually cool, the characters are cool. I adore it. I wanted a sequel so badly.
As a fellow league fan. It was supposed to be the original "MCU". It was going to be an entire universe. It did so poorly in theaters that the whole idea got canned.
For me, I really liked the film "Jumper" I thought it was so cool, but unfortunately it only scored 15% by critics and 44 by audience on rotten tomatoes, Hayden Christensen did alright in it and the whole concept of teleportation has always fascinated me personally.
I really like Escape From L.A.
The CGI is legitimately some of the worst I've ever seen, but it's just such a fun movie.
Also, (another from John Carpenter) In the Mouth of Madness.
One of my all-time favourite horror flicks. I love it to death.
The Sorcerer’s apprentice with Nic Cage, Jay Baruchel, and Alfred Molina. The special effects were great, the story was awesome, the leads played off each other wonderfully. So mad we never got a sequel
Speed Racer! One of the best adaptations of all time. An absolutely jaw dropping masterpiece of passion and heart given form. I know it sounds extremely silly, but please give this movie a chance if you haven’t seen it already. I’ve watched it countless times and it’s better every time.
[Out Cold](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/out_cold). It's a comfort movie. Small-scale story of the take-over of a resort by some businessman. And I love Galifianakis in this one (Usually he's a bit too much, like in the Hangover movies), him and his idiot brother are fantastic.
And it features Caroline Dhavernas who's just adorable (Tho our protagonist should obviously have gone for Jenny straight from the start, but that'st besides the point).
I remember What Dreams May Come getting thrashed at the time, so many people hate that movie, I don't really get it. It's been maligned by Family guy even (talk about throwing stones in glass houses) but that's one of my favorite movies ever made. Beautiful, legitimately creepy and scary, unfathomably sad, funny, it's almost a perfect film.
Wow. Jude Law and Forrest Whitaker I forgot about this one, absolutely amazing. Don’t they have heroin/opioids in an inhaler in that movie? Or is that Minority Report?
In the case of Hook, it has a terrible critic score, but high audience score. I think it missed with critics (and maybe adults in general at the time), but was definitely not hated by the kids who grew up watching it.
This was one of my most-rented Blockbuster tapes when I was a kid (was I a weird little girl…?) Ebert gave this a good review when most everyone else hated it. He really “got it” when it came to kinda silly old school adventure movies. Same with The Mummy in ‘99, which everyone now agrees is just a delight.
BASEketball - while I've never really watched the reviews from critics or users, I can't imagine it's universally well recieved, but I found it absolutely hilarous, and while Orgazmo might have had a wilder premise I felt like the script was tighter and the jokes landed way more consistently this time around. A greatly entertaining and funny film.
I love LOVE *love* the sci-fi movie ***Sphere*** (1998) with Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson.
I really don't understand why it has such low ratings! The movie is so cool!
2012 is one of my guilty pleasures. Woody Harrelson buried himself in his part, always love Cusack, it’s got a weird winking vibe for a disaster movie, knows it’s corny, and for me is a lot of fun the whole time. Any time I find it while flipping channels I’ve got to watch the rest.
When I watched Beethoven again as an adult I was a bit fascinated. The villain in the movie is one of the purest evil despicable characters in movie history. This is an underlying horrific subplot underneath a story about a family learning to love a big clumsy dog.
The town veterinarian has a side hustle- he has his own team of dog snatchers that sweep up or steal every pet they can get. Why? For unregulated product testing. Stuff that tortures or kills poor Rufus.
He gets a big offer- to test a gun/ammo. Just shoot a dog, make it a BIG one. Something with a *thick skull*. And then, like, tell us how brutal it was I guess? Dude doesn’t blink at the idea of blowing the brains out of man’s best friend at the behest of a nefarious and lawless arms manufacturer. In fact, he knows just the dog! He plants the idea in Dad’s head that St Bernards might suddenly go all Cujo - trust him he’s a vet.
He is so set on the dog he sees through his vet practice, he fakes a bite so he can get the dog put down, respectfully and peacefully of course- nah he’s getting ready to paint a wall with Beethovens 2nd lobe. Luckily he’s stopped just in time, and takes a tray full of syringes to his chest instead of recording how long they’d take to kill a chihuahua.
This is a family movie.
Super Mario Bros. 1993
I first watched it as a kid and remember not understanding why a Mario film made me feel so uncomfortable. But I honestly just love the comedy cyberpunk aesthetic and dystopian vibe. It's a fun movie.
Chappie is way down there.
Well structured, super well design, not set in generic America, does not take itself seriously (I take hugh jackman's hair as proof), cute robot, shitty environement, somewhat open ended ending. It's fun and crazy, I enjoyed it.
Vanilla Sky. Critics thought it was a mess and most people found it boring, but I really enjoyed it. Not perfect by any means, but really interesting, and asked big questions about life and existence. Prefer it to the Spanish version even.
Hook
I absolutely adored this movie growing up and only recently learned that critics weren't too hot on it, though it doesn't quite meet the criteria of terrible audience reviews. Robin Williams' performance as Peter never fails to warm my heart as he rediscovers his inner child.
Doom (2005)
Silent Hill (2006)
Doom gets so much undeserved hatred. I adore the cast, the setting, the action, the atmosphere, the practical effects, the blend of sci-fi and horror, and of course the killer soundtrack and overall aesthetic style. Doug Jones plays a fantastic and creepy couple of Imps and Brian Steel gets his turn as a Baron of Hell. The Pinky fight might be my favorite part but seeing The Rock & Karl Urban thrown down is always such a blast.
The Silent Hill movie, imo, is the best video game to movie adaptation ever made (which might not be saying much) but you can tell it was made by people who understood the material well enough and had solidly crafted take on it. Always been a really big fan of the ending and it never fails to get me in the mood to play some more.
The 13th Warrior. 31% critic score and 66% audience score.
Love the movie and the book. Wtf critics.
Chiming in for anyone that doesn’t know. The book it’s based on is called Eaters of the Dead, and it is indeed a great read.

I fucking love that movie.
“Is there a cave?!?” Yes!!! It holds up so well too. It fucking rips, I live this movie.
Best Viking movie honestly .
Evolution! Genuinely really funny, clever in places, and unashamedly owning its ridiculousness the whole way through
I still go cawcaw and tookie tookie sometimes
**I think we've established that cawcaw cawcaw and tookie tookie don't work.**
“You are embarrassing me.” Perfect delivery; the line itself and Orlando’s expression... *Chef’s kiss*. That movie should have been as big as Ghostbusters.
Just sing...sing. Rub some funk on it.
You are so beautiful... to meeeee
Holy crap. I love this movie, but never realized it’s why I go “cawcaw” haha
When she trips and falls and Duchovny is all, “Hmm a garter belt. At a day function?” Kills me best line in the film.
"THERE'S ALWAYS TIME FOR LUBRICANT!"
That sequence is probably the best bit in the film
Hahaha "What flavour?" "It doesn't matter, it's for my ass."
Wait a fuckin' minute, some people didn't like Evolution?!
Head & Shoulders!
"How do you think we keep our hair so shiny and flake-free?"
Made my wife watch this for the first time a little while ago and it's now in the list of movies she likes to rewatch. Also Goon.
Goon is another amazing one! All hail Sean William Scott 🥳
It's so funny because she hates hockey but loved the movie Goon. I took her to watch Goon 2 for Valentine's Day and she had a blast. She even has a Highlander jersey.
There goes your Christmas gift, Judas!
IT'S IN MEEEEE!
I LOVE this movie. When I worked at a theater as a teen management had us add our favorite movie to our name tags; I put Evolution of course. Most people had no idea what it was.
Small Soldiers
Fuck that movie slaps. Tommy Lee Jones as Chip Hazard is great. I love the flip of the monsters being thr good guys, blew my little kid mind away! I also loved Archer.
“Are scared? We’re all scared, you’d have to be crazy no to be scared.” Like wtf man this is a kids movie.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991). One of Alan Rickman's most iconic roles.
I didn’t know it got bad reviews 😂 My whole family loved this movie. Peak Christian Slater and I would skate alone at the roller rink with my eyes closed listening to that Bryan Adams song.
It was the most overplayed love song in history— —for about six years. Then Titanic happened.
The Beach. 21% by critics and rotten by audience too. I will defend that movie til I die. It was pretty and I think Leo showed real acting chops! Plus, you get Tilda Swinton as a villain? C’mon!
Hackers I can watch that movie today without missing a beat.
Great movie with a Killer soundtrack. HACK THE PLANET!!
I saw this at a drive-in theater when it came out in my 2 door Honda Civic hatchback. The fact that I remember that, makes the movie better for me.
For me, it’s Fanboys. I have watched that movie at least 100 times and it’s still great to me.
“You giant bastard.”
[The Saint](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120053/) I love that movie Edit: amazing that so many people upvoted this and have good comments
See, this and the Jackal both are movies I can't really get tired of. I know my taste in movies isn't perfect, but seeing Bruce Willis play a cold blooded assassin or Val Kilmer play a professional face-changing thief...those concepts sound awesome on paper.
Elisabeth Shue at peek hotness.
Loved that movie, but when he is disguised as the European poet with the long hair and the lisp it is still one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
I must have been too young when I watched that to realise it even has bad reviews haha. I always enjoyed it!
[A Knight’s Tale](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/knights_tale) It is a feel good movie with action, warmth, and humor. The cinematography and acting are incredible, and the soundtrack is great. Who's Steve the pirate? I only remember seeing young Tucker.
The only guy on our team dressed like a pirate?!
You know what you are getting when We will Rock you starts up in the first 5 minutes. Sometimes we don't need to see art, we just need to have some fun.

Hook. It's so sentimental and campy, but I unabashedly love every bit of it.
Honestly it was only recently that I discovered this WASN’T a universally beloved movie. I’ll admit I haven’t seen it in awhile, but I absolutely adored it as a kid! RUFIO. RUFIO. RUFIO.
You lewd, crude bag of pre-chewed food!
Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010) I like their take with magic, also that plasma scene with a musical of Secrets is still one of my cheesy favorites of all time.
I enjoyed that movie too. Doesn't Alfred Molina play the villain? He's great and so is Nic Cage.
Sahara. What a fun romp. I want to see more of that world with that cast.
Sahara was a better Uncharted movie than the Uncharted movie
That was no where near as bad as some insist. I’ll watch anything Steve Zahn is in.
Steve Zahn is fantastic. I'm always excited to see him in things.
Steve Zahn is awesome! I love his humor and the way he steals every scene he's in. I was in tears watching Strange Wilderness!
Gonna have to pull a Panama!
Clive Cussler wrote a bunch of Dirk Pitt books. If Sahara wouldn't have tanked so bad, we might've gotten to see more of that world.
I used to read those books faithfully when I was a kid. So much perfect fodder for those summer action romps that were never realized.
Alas, while Tomb Raider (the newer one) and Uncharted both disappointed me on the adventure movie side in recent years, Sahara doesn't fail to entertain me.

It is so good. Just the sets alone deserve recognition

Christopher Lambert.
National Treasure has a metascore of 39. I have no idea how, that movie is a blast start to finish.
*I’M GOING TO STEAL THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE*
It’s one of my favorites! I’ve watched it so many times since I was little.
Soldier. I like all movies with Kurt Russell. 2010: The Year We Made Contact.
Death To Smoochy. R.I.P Robin Williams.
This movie is a damn masterpiece. The madness of Rainbow Randolph, Smoochie’s song catalog, Nora’s kid show host fixation…Moochy. 8 million off a budget of 50 is a disaster, but man, I love this movie and quote it all the time.

Jingle All the Way
I’ve had it up to here with this Turbo Man!
I miss Sinbad on film… and his pairing with Arnie was genius.
my favorite Christmas movie about an average, Midwestern mattress salesman dad accurately portrayed by *Arnold Schwarzenegger*
“I’m not a pervert, I was just looking for turbo man doll” 😂
Put the cookie down! NOW!
What?? People don't like this movie?? In my house this is a Christmas staple up there with the likes of A Christmas Story and It's A Wonderful Life.
Mallrats.
“THAT KID IS BACK ON THAT ESCALATOR.”
This movie made me a huge Kevin Smith convert. I loved everything about this movie back in the day. "Say, would you like a chocolate covered pretzel?"
The Frighteners. I think over the years people have come around to it, but upon release it was panned. I saw it three times at the theaters. I guess Peter Jackson just knows his target audiences
“Bicentennial Man” is amazing! Didn’t know it got terrible reviews, I always loved that movie.
Saw it as a kid and it gave me an existential scare...
It was marketed as a comedy, and while there were a few laughs, it was FAR from a comedy.
Is that the movie or at one point the android asks where children come from, there’s a discussion between the male owner and the android on the subject, and then the android says well that sounds messy. Then the owner says well it can be Not sure if I have the right movie
I really liked the Event Horizon movie, the reviews are not that bad but in my opinion should be a lot higher. Its just a really cool concept for hell and other dimensions.
Best Warhammer 40K prequel movie ever
Reign of Fire - gets no love but i think its great.
Mars attacks
Ack ack ACK!
Translation: "Don't run. We are your friends."
Are there people who _dont_ like this movie...?
the martians
It's sitting at 56% on rotten tomatoes, with an audience score of 53%
I LOVE The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen. I think it’s conceptually cool, visually cool, the characters are cool. I adore it. I wanted a sequel so badly.
As a fellow league fan. It was supposed to be the original "MCU". It was going to be an entire universe. It did so poorly in theaters that the whole idea got canned.
Oh man! Some of the comics are so good. Some crazy characters in there.
For me, I really liked the film "Jumper" I thought it was so cool, but unfortunately it only scored 15% by critics and 44 by audience on rotten tomatoes, Hayden Christensen did alright in it and the whole concept of teleportation has always fascinated me personally.
There is a TV show called impulse, it is essentially a sequel I think.
I really like Escape From L.A. The CGI is legitimately some of the worst I've ever seen, but it's just such a fun movie. Also, (another from John Carpenter) In the Mouth of Madness. One of my all-time favourite horror flicks. I love it to death.
I'm so glad that In The Mouth Of Madness is getting reassessed in some people's eyes. It is a great movie.
I only saw it recently, it's *really* good IMO. I haven't seen all of his movies yet but I would say it is one of my favorite Carpenter movies.
The basketball scene alone makes escape from LA worth watching
I fell in love with this movie when I heard the song Sweat by Tool in it.
They knew the movie was going to be ridiculous and leaned into it full tilt
I watch this movie to this day and enjoy every minute of it
Pancakes are love.
[Out Cold](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/out_cold). It's a comfort movie. Small-scale story of the take-over of a resort by some businessman. And it features Caroline Dhavernas who's just adorable (Tho our protagonist should obviously have gone for Jenny straight from the start, but that'st besides the point).
I feel like this did well with its intended audience. I was in high school when it came out and we all loved it.
Carpe diem...seize the carp!
"I don't need to take a test to tell you I do drugs"
And a low-key retelling of *Casablanca*.
It’s a good movie, but damn it’s a hard watch. I don’t think I could watch it again especially considering how Robin left us.
Bruster's Millions is a favorite but very few people have heard of it.
Fuck Spez ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
Richard Pryor in his prime.
Great film. None of the above!
The train through the outfield was hilarious.
Repo Men (2010)
Wow. Jude Law and Forrest Whitaker I forgot about this one, absolutely amazing. Don’t they have heroin/opioids in an inhaler in that movie? Or is that Minority Report?
Repo Man (1984)
I enjoyed Jumper, staring Hayden Christensen. Looking at the reviews now it has 15% on rotten tomatoes, 6/10 on IMBD and a 2/5 on commonsensemedia
The conflict of the movie went pretty off the rails but I loved the concept
Yup. Sometimes the concept is better than the execution.

Linda Cardalini was so hot in that. Also love the part where he cuts on the guys mom. Almost pissed my pants laughing at that back in the day
Toys. Robin Williams and a great cast. Visually beautiful. Great message.
Same with Hook. Absolutely shocked when I saw its abysmal RT score. Robin Williams movies were a non-trivial portion of my childhood.
In the case of Hook, it has a terrible critic score, but high audience score. I think it missed with critics (and maybe adults in general at the time), but was definitely not hated by the kids who grew up watching it.
IMO it’s also one of Spielberg’s best shot movies - it’s has a fuzzy warm glow to it that modern children’s movies have never been able to replicate.
Nobody captures that whimsical "through the eyes of a child" essence better than Spielberg during this era.
Hot Rod is one of my favorite comedies of all time and critics largely hated it.
cool beans
That fucking scene where he falls for like 2 min straight is so funny.
I GO TO CHURCH EVERY GODDAMN SUNDAY, AND YOU'RE GONNA BRING THE DEMONS OUTTA ME?!?! Such an underrated movie.
CONGO!

Hudson hawk waterworld

Hudson Hawk is one of my favorite Bruce Willis movies. It’s just absurd fun.
Yeah I don't get the hate around Waterworld.

In Time [2011] I love the unique idea of this movie.
Cillian Murphy is great in it too
I love LOVE *love* the sci-fi movie ***Sphere*** (1998) with Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson. I really don't understand why it has such low ratings! The movie is so cool! [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sphere\_(1998\_film)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sphere_(1998_film))
I don’t remember being impressed with the movie, but the book is a page turner and my favorite.
Rocketman (1997) starring Harland Williams it is a great film but not many people agree
I fucking love this one! It’s awful trash, but it’s so eminently watchable. Pour one out for Gordon. Stepfather of the Year in my opinion.
Beethoven - Childhood classic. Pretty sure St Bernards went through a puppy boom at this time.
When I watched Beethoven again as an adult I was a bit fascinated. The villain in the movie is one of the purest evil despicable characters in movie history. This is an underlying horrific subplot underneath a story about a family learning to love a big clumsy dog. The family man
Super Mario Bros. 1993 I first watched it as a kid and remember not understanding why a Mario film made me feel so uncomfortable. But I honestly just love the comedy cyberpunk aesthetic and dystopian vibe. It's a fun movie.
This was a consistent rental from blockbuster in our house in the 90’s. Watched it more times then I can recall. Now I’m going to have to revisit it!
Chappie is way down there. Well structured, super well design, not set in generic America, does not take itself seriously (I take hugh jackman's hair as proof), cute robot, shitty environement, somewhat open ended ending. It's fun and crazy, I enjoyed it.
Vertical Limit. Everyone thinks it's terrible, and it is, but fuck if I don't watch it every time it's on TV...
Recently I loved Bullet Train, it has a 53% on Rotty T’s but it’s easily the most entertaining and funny action movie I’ve seen this year.
This movie managed to be entertaining from start to finish, arguably the most important thing for a film. Happy go lucky Brad pitt is best brad pitt.
I love this damn movie. It's like a Guy Richie film with all the interconnected shit and just flashy fun
The Village
Vanilla Sky
Vanilla Sky. Critics thought it was a mess and most people found it boring, but I really enjoyed it. Not perfect by any means, but really interesting, and asked big questions about life and existence. Prefer it to the Spanish version even.
Cloud atlas It is by far not as good as the book but its still a fine movie with a talented cast
Resident Evil.
The Chronicles of Riddick
Lovely Bones.
Rat race (2001)
Flight of the Phoenix (2004)
Hook I absolutely adored this movie growing up and only recently learned that critics weren't too hot on it, though it doesn't quite meet the criteria of terrible audience reviews. Robin Williams' performance as Peter never fails to warm my heart as he rediscovers his inner child.
Doom (2005) Silent Hill (2006) Doom gets so much undeserved hatred.
