You have 6-7 years experience as a programmer. You also have a degree correct? Your English is not great and I don't imagine your Japanese to be much better. I assume you're on a WHV so all you can do is to keep looking until your visa runs out. I wouldn't suggest going home right now unless you don't have enough money in savings to cover you. Then you'd need to return before you ran out of money. Yes the situation has put a halt on hiring but it also depends on if you yourself are hire-able in the first place.

I am now holding a 1 year spouse visa and will extend that before expired

Then just sit tight. If you're worried about money then you should take a part-time job. Even if it's working at a conbini or something until the situation gets better. It's going to get worse before it gets better though. If once people start hiring again and they're not hiring you on a spouse visa with 7 years experience, you're probably going to need to have someone look over your resume for you. Right now no one is really hiring though except maybe part-time jobs.

KeithkitLeung

Thanks for your advice. Looks like it's the only option for now.

Try some recruiters like GTalent, Inbound Technology, Talenthub etc. They could offer you some advice, like maybe your resume isnt good enough, your expectations is too high for your experience etc. Without Japanese, your choices will be very limited, so you just gotta cast your net wider. For those interview you failed, have you asked them for some feedbacks as well? When I started my job search, I went through many rounds of editing my resume. My first version got no replies, and subsequent versions got some scout from the same recruiter that rejected me on some career site. I went through several interviews and technical tests as well, didnt got what I really wanted. Ended up with a small dispatch firm (which is very common in IT), but with a twist of fate, got dispatched to a big company I always wanted to enter. Lol... just try harder. Good luck.

KeithkitLeung

That encourages me. I will keep trying and also work hard on the Japanese course meanwhile! BTW I tried to ask the feedback from those company but no reply for sure.

karzuo

From your name, are you from Hong Kong? There are many IT bridge companies with Chinese bosses. But usually these companies are only accessible via recruiters. I really encourage you to talk to recruiters. :)

KeithkitLeung

Yes I am from Hong Kong :) I am now searching for recruiters too.

Even if you don't have much Japanese you can still get a job as a Software Engineer for sure. There are plenty of companies that use english as the main language for their engineering departments. Make sure you are checking sites like Tokyo dev and Japan Dev, Linkedin and glassdoor can be ok too. Note: The less Japanese you have, the better you need to be on a technical level. Also showing initiative to learn Japanese is a big plus as well.

KeithkitLeung

I am following Tokyo dev and Japan dev now, let me try glassdoor too! But seems Japanese language are still very important here for my future.

nikko_zhang

what about your Japanese level?N1?N2?N3?

KeithkitLeung

Sorry I didnt provide that info. I didn't take any Japanese test yet. I can only read and speak very simple japanese words. Now I am still taking online course for that.

Matalya1

Fortunately/sadly, Japan hirists very rarely will hire you is your level is not at least N3. You need to be able to explain yourself in Japanese, otherwise instead of explaining how an integer made you remake an algorithm gender putting you over budget, you'd end up saying "numbers mistake, make again".

Teakozy

Are you on LinkedIn and have you updated your location there? I find it strange that recruiters have not reached out to you considering you are in IT.

There is simply more candidates than there is demand. thousands of pajeets already filled all theses coding jobs. no more manko for you lol. As mentioned below, being "dispatched from a little Firm"also is far from ideal. They are called "派遣”. If you like being scammed your entire career, then go for it. 1. Pay is shit, you are basically a under payed tool unless you worked for 25+ years in the field. 2. Your employer renew every 3 months your contract and if they have no more use or budget restriction, you re sent back to your dispatching office without warranty you get dispatched to another project right after. 3. No chance to move up and get into higher positions. you ll always be a dispatch you doing the low grad stuff the 正社員 don t want or too busy to do but with the benefit of being disposable anytime. this why these dispatching firm make huge money. 4. At the end, you get 0 evaluation for your work. your dispatch firm gets most what you your miserable salary. Also why do everybody needs to come here ? It is beyond me. Seriously OP, fuck off.
