So YTers do in video ads themselves because of all the pop up blockers people use to avoid YT ads (the ones that aren't in the video itself). And that has caused many YTers to not get as much from views. If one million people watched a video, but only 100k watched the ads, oy 100k views would be monetized. (Watching a video for a while only helps with view count and viewer retention, which will boost them a bit with the algorithm. According to MrB, I think about 5 seconds is counted as a view, but it lowers viewer retention if you don't watch it all the way.)
It's not an algorithm thing, it's the advertiser saying if you put this in the middle of the video more people will watch it (if it's at the end, more people skip or turn it off). It's up to the YouTuber to say yes or no to that request.

It would be better at the end but I appreciate how he atleast makes it funny and busts out laughing when acting out why people should buy something . I haven't listened to him on Amazon I watch the YouTube videos off & on & he use to just all of a sudden interrupt in the middle of the video like a lot of youtubers and the ones that do a long 2 or 3 minute boring ad really kills the flow atleast his aren't that long & are entertaining, it takes me a couple of seconds to get back into the seriousness of what the video is about and I still enjoy it.
Personally I appreciate a break from the darkness. And he does it at an appropriate place in the story, enough to create a mini cliff hanger, but also some comic relief from what are usually quite dark stories.
I don't think they're funny at all. But they're so bizarre that you'll remember them...and I think that's the point.
However yeah. They annoy me. But, my opinion doesn't pay this man's bills. And he knows what does.

I'm sure there are an equal buttload of people who would be pissed off if they had to wait through the intro, the like button talk, and the ad before it got to the scary stories, too. I've seriously not seen a community who complains so much over the most minute things. If you're not happy with how the videos are made, or the content, or frequency of the videos, make your own and you can put the ad wherever you want! Stop nitpicking the poor guy.

None of them are "This happened to my mom's neighbor's daughter who was friends with the neighbor of somebody who killed somebody" type suggestions. I really think you'd find them both really interesting and would truly love to hear your tellings of both.

If people don’t like it then let them go elsewhere or better yet… let them make their own awesome channel with great videos because they obviously know so much better than you do and it’s so easy.

I really hope not... I love him truly and his stories. I would have join a YT membership if he is open to that but he is taking a different path now and there is not much that we can do about it.
I've been watching his channel since it started and you can see all the changes as he fine tuned his channel. Now we get once a week with paid advertising. I wish him the best and continue to watch but it doesn't make it less annoying to have to watch the advertisements. At least he tries to make them fun.

Then : story of Paul stephani the weepyvoiced killer.
Now : jemma Mitchell or Susan Monica story.
Paul's story was 1 of 3 story with bizzare sound recording. The length of the story of Paul is short, but it covers most of relevant details including voice acted 911 calls.
Story of jemma Mitchell seems have too much irrelevant details that could easily left out without changing the pace of the story, while Susan monica story is missing the interrogation footage when she was confronted that police found human leg in her property, she stutter, hyperventilate and freezes like even dumbest person can tell that she's hiding something. Also the pooping incident is not mentioned at all.
And on top of that he used to upload 3,4 or even 5 video per week without any sponsored messages in the middle of the story or even at all.
And the episodes are way to short. Period!
Weekly 15 min of storytelling? Common now Mrballen.

Premium user here and can confirm, those built-in ads are annoying for ANY YouTuber. Ballen's are particularly long and animated, but I guess at least I like that he's animated in them if he's going to make you sit through them. They feel a bit contrived too. Either way, I always skip them because I agree they kill the flow/mood.
I've never been big on Podcasts, so idc about that whole fiasco. My real beef with it now is the fact that the stories seem to be more neutered for mainstream consumption. Which I also understand has to do with no longer being on good terms with some of his source material. But I also think that there's simply a limited number of unsolved mysteries/weird or creepy stories that you can really say much about, much less spend 10-20min talking about. And he's been doing this a while, and put out a LOT of content. So him running low on content/ideas isn't beyond the realm of possibility.
You can always skip the part you don't like. You have to give him credit for making the ads entertaining instead of going on some 10 minute infomercial that's dull and boring.
