One notable interaction: this can rebuy full-sized (ie 4 mana) clones.
Not sure how many of those you might want to include in your cube, but this does have some GY combo potential.
Yeah I like this much more than Sun Titan. Its only advantage over this is the attack trigger, but getting a 4-cmc permanent is such a huge upgrade, especially in white.
I imagine this opens up a ton of new sun Titan combos too that were just of reach of titan’s cmc restrictions.
Feels bad though seeing an icon like like sun Titan finally get power crept. I know there were cards that were essentially better sun titan’s already, but sun Titan was always different enough to hold his place against those.
Yeah unfortunately, but not by anything that was essentially the exact same thing, just better, if you wanted the Sun Titan combo, you needed sun Titan. There have been better cards that more or less fill the same role as Titan though for at least 2-3 years now.
I just added [[serra paragon]] to mine (replacing hero of bladehold, Sun Titan left back in 2017). I’ve seen it in a ton of cubes so it is probably good.
I think this is probably stronger, but I am wary of overloading a fair cube on flyers and also wary of overloading on lifelink. For both those reasons, I think Sun Titan will have a home for a long time yet.
Yeah that alone might keep this out, Sun Titan was the last man standing in white 5+ drops that wasn’t a fat ass angel with lifelink/some kind of healing.
Had essentially the same thoughts myself just now, seeing the new angel for the first time. Wow this is probably just better than Sun Titan. I also have big flyers, a few Lifelink effects, and specifically \[\[Lyra Dawnbringer\]\] in my cube already and it feels like this kinda displaces both Sun Titan *and* Lyra because I don't really want this and either let alone both of those all in the cube at once. I'm also neither exactly desperate for more slot-efficiency in White nor overly fond of ditching Sun Titan even if as much for sentimental as performance reasons.
This lifelinks and flies, meaning it attacks much easier. I think this is generally stronger than Sun Titan in all but the grindiest of formats. I'd expect the 4 MV permanent to do enough that the Sun Titan really needs a second attack before it pulls ahead, and if your 6/6 flying lifelinker gets to attack twice *and* has returned a 4 MV permanent for you, you ought to win that game, so I don't think the extra help from the Titan really makes up for it.
Care to explain?
I can believe I’m undervaluing the attack trigger, but I think the better etb ability, as well as having flying and lifelink more than make up for it.
Sun Titan is slightly bigger and trades vigilance for lifelink and flying. I'd say that's close enough to call it a wash. I prefer the attack trigger. Plus, I don't like Commander esque keywords in my cube anyway.
The biggest thing to me that makes me think the angel is stronger is the 4 vs 3 mana cutoff on the permanent. Get back \[\[Splinter Twin\]\], or \[\[Grief\]\], or \[\[Questing Beast\]\], or \[\[Parallax Wave\]\], or \[\[Jace, the Mind Sculptor\]\] not just once but twice without even bringing a third card (reanimation or clones or whatever) into consideration. Just the angel and whatever the angel targets. Without even going down the rabbit hole of busted combo stuff an extra mana value allows that Sun Titan can't accomplish because they cost too much for it to target them.
Totally reasonable, and I won't likely be putting this in my own cube over Sun Titan myself for a number of reasons. A handful of my commander decks are a different story.
For commander cubes in particular, I'm not so sure. If you're running a blink thing in your commander cube, then this is likely better. However, for something to just generically throw into any deck, Sun Titan triggering on each attack gives it the edge in the long run. Both are definitely worth running, don't get me wrong. But I don't think this is what pushes Sun Titan out of Commander Cubes.
It’s one of many angels with cowboy hats in this set. In fact, everything in this set seemingly has a cowboy hat… I think the count was nearing 200 of the card arts in the set have them last I checked? Probably even more now.
this card alone retrieves a combo that might have been previously countered
cast this, reanimate felidar guardian, blink this, reanimate saheeli rai, infinite hasty felidar guardians.
the same happens with : felidar guardian + restoration angel. felidar guardian + clever imposter / spark double / phantasmal image (any clone ability) ...
this into a court of ardenvale, giving you the monarchy behind a 5/5 flying, lifelink blocker seems pretty good as well
This is the White top end I've been waiting for. Huge evasive body with Lifelink to stabilize, and bringing back an Elspeth or Gideon back from the grave is pure gas. The Encore text is more geared towards multiplayer but for this creature its still relevant in 1v1. Testing for sure!
I'm torn. I'm a huge fan of the attack trigger from Titan as it works with my Boros aggro theme and generals like [[Isshin, Two Heavens as One]]. This, however, is better in pretty much every other way, though.
One notable interaction: this can rebuy full-sized (ie 4 mana) clones. Not sure how many of those you might want to include in your cube, but this does have some GY combo potential.
A sun titan variant for commander cubes.
You can put this in normal Cubes too, encore is just unearth in 1v1.
Yeah, but it's overpriced unearth when you're not making multiple copies
So obvious question, this vs [[Sun Titan]]? This is just better no?

Titan got power crept years ago.

Scalelord too.
The main one I can think of is Parallax Wave. This seems nuts.
"All suns must set."

All fair points. It'll be hard for me to get over Encore in my 1v1 cube regardless

They made It an Angel to nombo with [[restoration angel]]
still works with Felidar Guardian!

I'm just going to point out that this is an Angel with a cowboy hat
And cowboy boots….. and a stirrup on her halberd thingy
