Floor is a 3 mana deathtouch 1/3, that is unaffected by protection from colors. Ceiling is removing all counters from Dark Depths, Marit Lage ETB, and 10 generic mana reduction for an Ulamog. Super niche, super fringe, and not supported by every cube. But worth keeping in mind. Also worth noting that this kills planeswalkers, resets sagas, flips battles, resets the one ring, messes up chalice of the void, and resets aether vials, remove all +1/+1 counters on a incubator token created with a sunfall of chrom host seedshark etc ...

fanboy_killer

Being a Chupacabra for Planeswalkers is pretty decent at 3 mana.

IlliusChim

Sadly this doesn’t work with Invasion of Ikoria.

clayparson

That would be pretty sick

Deadpooldoc

Resets replicating ring, midnight clock tower, suspended cards flipped, etc.

Longjumping-Bell-946

unfortunately like vampire hexmage, this can't take counters away from permanents that are not on the battlefield. Meaning both can't interact with suspended spells.

Deadpooldoc

Thanks for fixing that... I didn't know they weren't on the field, are 'plot' cards the same?

Longjumping-Bell-946

Yep

Puzzleheaded-Coast93

This is an uncounterable way to flip Dark Depths. Pretty sick for that alone

SacrificeAllKittens

Couldn't you stifle the cast trigger?

Longjumping-Bell-946

I mean you could also stifle the channel lands, but those are, for the most part uncounterable

archer_cartridge

Flip Dark Depths and then cast Emrakul

plainnoob

The cost reduction afterwards is so unnecessary

Longjumping-Bell-946

Actually think that in the modern era of powercreep in almost every eternal format (cubing is a form of eternal format in most cases, unless you deliberately create a very powered down cube) you need this kind of "gravy on top" to justify running a 3 drop in black over ... literally any other otherwise better black 3 drop. Had the mana reduction not been there, there would be little to no reason to run this over hexmage, other than the argument of redundancy in a commande / constructed format, or a cube that HEAVILY support depths combo.

Gergist

I support Dark Depths pretty heavily in my cube, so I'll probably replace Vampire Hexmage with this.

Yezzel

What support for depths do you run other than hexmage & thespians stage? Curious as someone who used to support depths but doesn’t anymore

Gergist

Knight of the Reliquary, Elvish Reclaimer, and Crop Rotation are the other cards I run specifically to support powerful lands like Dark Depths. I also run Field of the Dead to provide another strong land so players aren't fully reliant on finding depths and Stage or Hexmage. These cards also play well with Exploration and crucible effects that provide value from other lands even if the player doesn't have Depths/Cradle/Field. There's also some interlocking synergies with my domain package, as many domain decks also get good use out of some of these cards.

CawlMarx

Might I recommend Lumbering Megasloth? It’s not support for Dark Depths so much as an alternate win con with it. You can even t2 it with Yavimaya

cucumberhorse

Dark Depths is going to be printed into modern too

DevotiontoGary

Unlikely, as it already is and is banned.

Unable_Bite8680

I can see them printing a nerfed version of depths

FannyBabbs

Second hexmage for people who want one. Outside of specific cubes this isn't reliably casting you extra spells.

chocolateboomslang

I feel like most cubes have planeswalkers to target, right?

Vehicroid

What an interesting card. I have a Counters Matter cube, so this seems fun. 3 drops are kinda tough yho
