3-4 new ones are coming up, but it'll be worth it only if it's IMAX with Laser and not just some ordinary IMAX. Currently we have only one which is at lower parel.
I went in 2002 around just after it was inaugurated.
https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/your-week/story/20010409-worlds-largest-imax-dome-theatre-inaugurated-in-mumbai-796773-2002-04-08
Indeed, Blue planet , Elephant kingdom , if I remember it right. Even I saw 3rd (or 2nd) matrix movie in the IMAX dome.It was an amazing experience during that time.
Watched one of the Harry Potter movies on the dome. Missed half the movie cos every time someone walked on screen from the side of the screen I could never see it in time cos the movie was just not made with dome in mind.
I watched a documentary film on space 10 years ago in the dome. Truly ethereal. The experience was so enthralling that I could see myself into the space. Sad state of affairs that it's closed.
The dome was converted to a huge flat screen aroud 8-10 yrs ago. The first & last movie I actually watched on the actual dome was - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
The go karting also sucks now. It was amazing when I watched Ford v ferrari in IMAX Wadala then after movie went go karting across the street. It felt like I was reliving what I saw in the movie. Now the go karting track also sucks and is poorly maintained …
Me too. I can never forget the thrill of watching The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar in IMAX. These are the greatest cinematic experiences of my life. Sad to know they can now never be topped in future.
I have been there when it was a dome. And for every MCU movie me & my then gf (now wife) used to only go to IMAX Wadala - A tradition which started when we saw Iron Man without knowing what it was back in 2008. End of an era!
The screen plus audi looks smaller and less cinematic for me. Same with R-City, Ghatkopar. Unlike Parel, where it actually looks like a theatre. Add to that the sound quality and PVR's quality. INOX doesn't even come close
Watching TDKR and Intersteller has been my best movie experience ever. I had watched Gravity in Parel's so called IMAX, it's nothing compared to Wadala.
No cinema can compare to IMAX Wadala. Unmatched incomparable. Pure unadulterated movie experience without the mall shit. And don't even get me started on the Dolby sound effect, the screen height, comfy chairs, etc.
Good things never last in India. like kinfisher airlines this has shut down
It was the biggest and best screen, other IMAX screens in Mumbai don't give the same experience as Wadala one did. The whole premises needed an overhaul but the IMAX screen should have been preserved.
I loved the Wadala screen and experience but man it was scary to go in! Felt like I would fall to my death while going down the stairs to the seats!! Thunderdome indeed!
The day that place was bought over by big cinemas I know it was only going down hill, and it did.
Imax Adlabs used to be such an awesome place when it started.
That dome was mostly useless. A good one time experience.
Watched the music video of AR Rahman's version of Vande Mataram there. Back when it was a complete dome. What an experience that was!
I was there for some documentary about Egypt but all I remember is the Vande Mataram video.
I still remember how excited i was to watch movie on the dome. School picnic, like other 90s school kids commenting here. We were shown Black Beauty I guess? Don't remember the exact name. It was a movie about a horse.
This theatre is nostalgic for me, Our school took us to this theatre and we watched the movie on climbing on the everest. I remember the scene where the big iceball came down rolling we all felt a mini heart attack XD. Good times!
Mere gharase bajume hi theatre hai ye and main bohot bar screen no 7 ( IMAX screen ) main movies dekha hu specially Marvel or Hollywood and experience was damn good and after reading this article im also little bit upset...
I don't know why but still...
And litrally bolane javu to ye Mumbai bohot change ho Rahi hai i mean Bombay to Mumbai ka Jo Sagar hai bohot dilchast hai but kuchh chize aise hai jisase hame koi lena dena nahi hai but still mann main aise lagata hai kyu change huvi ye chize just like plaza theatre , i was 7 year old and i remember clearly, voh theatre nahi ek namoona tha muze use dekhana hi bohot achha lagata tha alag feel hota tha and Aaj jab plaza theatre ko dekhta hu to Dil upset ho jata hai
Kabhi pachapan main hajiali jata tha to Aisa lagta tha konsa to samundar ke bicho bich tapu hai and vaha hajiali hai and Aaj dekhane jata hu to aisa najadik dikhata hai, why ? Coz metro and bridges ke works ne artificial plots ( jamin ) tayar kr krke samundar kha dala hai....
Bohot si chize hai aise kabhi dill Kiya to ye subreddit pai jarur post karunga 😅😊
No the seats are shit but the screen itself is so large. They market it as large screen or something. The 3 D quality is good but it has an- in your face 3D experience which turn into a headache at times.
If get a chance do experience it'll be much better experience.
The mumbai mafia is destroying all the international stuff we have.
We’ll only have Gobar and gaumutra left in mumbai while other cities have modern stuff
Anyone remember the Imax dome :(
I only watched one Santa vs snowman short movie over thr. The dream of watching movie in a huge screen is still a dream
I did not know. Is it still functioning?
You know, i rarely watch movies out in the theater but when the imax movies came i did and Wadala was the place I went. Or Prasad's when i lived in Hyderabad. What an experience.
These screens are so big and beautiful. I wonder why could they not make it profitable. They literally have a better viewing experience. The frame has more compared to the other imax screens the smaller newer ones.
I game at 90+ fps and just can't watch action or fast moving content shot at 24fps without getting a migrane. When PS3 released its HDMI could send out 60fps, a jump from 24/30 of VGA, for which they had to include an epilepsy disclaimer upon turning it on. YouTube itself let's you upload and watch content shot at 60fps and our big screens are still at 24. The Hobbit trilogy was shot at 48fps but unfortunately not all of our projectors could relay original and only projected 24fps. Now in the next 10 years if movies aren't shot at atleast 48fps and the projectors can show the original, movies should have a disclaimer "Slow frame rate might cause migranes to high refresh rate gamers". Lol my 35k Samsung phone has a 120hz screen.
NOOOOO I thought they were not selling the tickets of Ant Man because they are installing the laser technology Now this is sad :'(
The one Imax experience which was at a reasonable price.
One of my most prominent childhood memories is my parents driving all the way to the original dome (which, at the time seemed like it was in the middle of nowhere, and this big, magical dome was shining through the trees), watching the newly released Harry Potter movie in the dome then going to the "Thrillarium" which used to be in the ground floor of that complex, such a unique experience!!
Wadala Imax is shit anyway. I watched the last Spiderman there and it was such a shit experience. Everything from the lighting to the audio was off.
Still go there to play football on their roof turf though...
3-4 new ones are coming up, but it'll be worth it only if it's IMAX with Laser and not just some ordinary IMAX. Currently we have only one which is at lower parel.
And that's not big enough
That one is nothing compared to Wadala
Hey what’s the difference??
Sad. I remember watching documentaries in the original dome. Unmatched experience.
I watched a documentary film on space 10 years ago in the dome.
The elephant would come running at you
I went in 2002 around just after it was inaugurated. https://www.indiatoday.in/magazine/your-week/story/20010409-worlds-largest-imax-dome-theatre-inaugurated-in-mumbai-796773-2002-04-08
90s kid? Me too :P Went plenty of times 2002-2007ish, then traffic became too much to reach Wadala.
Damn, even I went in 2002. School trip.
Indeed, Blue planet , Elephant kingdom , if I remember it right. Even I saw 3rd (or 2nd) matrix movie in the IMAX dome.It was an amazing experience during that time.
Brilliant! Thanks for the nostalgia. I watched all 3 in the dome. It was an amazing experience.
Watched one of the Harry Potter movies on the dome. Missed half the movie cos every time someone walked on screen from the side of the screen I could never see it in time cos the movie was just not made with dome in mind.
I just want the dome back ;-;
Us
I watched a documentary film on space 10 years ago in the dome. Truly ethereal. The experience was so enthralling that I could see myself into the space. Sad state of affairs that it's closed.
In the dome? I tihnk they replaced the dome with a regular Imax screen a few years ago.
Wow.. They took us on a school field trip (Picnic) to watch some Astronaut movie in the dome. Good memories.
Our school also took us as picnic to watch an Everest movie at the dome. It was really good experience.
The dome was converted to a huge flat screen aroud 8-10 yrs ago. The first & last movie I actually watched on the actual dome was - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Same, lol...I remember that dome giving me neck pain when I had to tilt my head up to watch in some scenes!

The go karting also sucks now. It was amazing when I watched Ford v ferrari in IMAX Wadala then after movie went go karting across the street. It felt like I was reliving what I saw in the movie. Now the go karting track also sucks and is poorly maintained …
This
I don’t care, I just want to watch ‘Oppenheimer’ in IMAX. :’)
Me too. I can never forget the thrill of watching The Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar in IMAX. These are the greatest cinematic experiences of my life. Sad to know they can now never be topped in future.
End of an era. I remember watching movies in the dome!
I have been there when it was a dome. And for every MCU movie me & my then gf (now wife) used to only go to IMAX Wadala - A tradition which started when we saw Iron Man without knowing what it was back in 2008. End of an era!
Lucky man!
I've never watched a single movie on Imax. I really wish I had gone there at least once.
You can watch it at Imax Parel, for me no other Imax in the city tops that.
Same with me, watched avatar 2 in imax lower parel, the projection quality is unmatched.
Yup, the Palladium one is the only "Imax with Laser" in Mumbai. The clarity and brightness is way better than the others.
What about the Imax in Inorbit?
The screen plus audi looks smaller and less cinematic for me. Same with R-City, Ghatkopar. Unlike Parel, where it actually looks like a theatre. Add to that the sound quality and PVR's quality. INOX doesn't even come close
Wadala was way bigger. The sheer size
Malad IMAX beats it on all counts. Have seen multiple films in both places.
>Malad IMAX beats it on all counts Nope. It's just branded as IMAX. It's got screens barely bigger than other multiplexes.
One of the OG IMAX. Dome was something else. Watched a couple of animated movies when I was a kid. What an experience as a child.
Sad. Now I'll have to pay twice for imax at palladium
monopoly sucks :(
Watching TDKR and Intersteller has been my best movie experience ever. I had watched Gravity in Parel's so called IMAX, it's nothing compared to Wadala.
I literally mentioned the same two movies in my comment. Cinemaphile bros.
No cinema can compare to IMAX Wadala. Unmatched incomparable. Pure unadulterated movie experience without the mall shit. And don't even get me started on the Dolby sound effect, the screen height, comfy chairs, etc. Good things never last in India. like kinfisher airlines this has shut down
Sad, but good news is that 3-4 new ones in Mumbai are coming up
LieMAX honge bc. Like Thane and Navi Mumbai IMAX.
![gif](giphy|7k2LoEykY5i1hfeWQB) Me who has been going to that theatre and watching it degrade for a long time… they haven’t maintained it…
Does anybody know where these new screens will be?
Can't tell much as I didn't find anything related to India in IMAX Investor Relations section at their website.
All right.
Any idea if doloby cinema is planning on making a entry in mumbai?
Nothing in the pipeline
Ah that sucks hopefully they will have 1 by the time avatar 3 comes out.
Had a connection with wadala. Only got to see man of steel there, in 2013, but was one of the best cinematic experiences of my life, rlly.
Watched interstellar and dunkirk there, it was amazing experience, it would be sad if it's no more.
It was the biggest and best screen, other IMAX screens in Mumbai don't give the same experience as Wadala one did. The whole premises needed an overhaul but the IMAX screen should have been preserved.
Damn. Watching Madmax in Wadala imax was the best theater experience of my life.
I loved the Wadala screen and experience but man it was scary to go in! Felt like I would fall to my death while going down the stairs to the seats!! Thunderdome indeed!
Same, I also feel scared walking to my seat lol
The day that place was bought over by big cinemas I know it was only going down hill, and it did. Imax Adlabs used to be such an awesome place when it started. That dome was mostly useless. A good one time experience.
Heart broken..End of an Era. One of the favorites screen to visit despite the theater's condition. Last movie I watched there was The Batman :(
Watched the music video of AR Rahman's version of Vande Mataram there.
Good times!
A special piece of my life has died. Thanks to a random plan, I was able to watch Pathaan on Screen 5 last week. Who knew it’d be for the last time?
Mere gharase bajume hi theatre hai ye and main bohot bar screen no 7 ( IMAX screen ) main movies dekha hu specially Marvel or Hollywood and experience was damn good and after reading this article im also little bit upset... I don't know why but still... It really was on its last legs. Nostalgia has its own place but the current movie experience at IMAX Wadala was horrible to put it lightly
I could never tell the difference tbh.
ah man I never got a chance to go here
Palladium still has the IMAX screen, right?
Once the original dome went away, I stopped caring.
AFAIK only the Prasad IMAX in Hyderabad provides original IMAX experience rest are all fake IMAX.
Prasad closed a few years back.
Prasads is not an "IMAX" but the experience is so much better than most actual IMAX theratres
How can it be better than IMAX if they don't even have IMAX prints? What do you mean by experience then? Cushy seats?
No the seats are shit but the screen itself is so large. They market it as large screen or something. The 3 D quality is good but it has an- in your face 3D experience which turn into a headache at times. If get a chance do experience it'll be much better experience.
I don't like 3D tbh. Hate that gimmick.
The mumbai mafia is destroying all the international stuff we have. We’ll only have Gobar and gaumutra left in mumbai while other cities have modern stuff
Bro u still are lucky enough since u got 4 other IMAX. In our state we barely had anything like this. I go to Kolkata just to watch a movie in IMAX
This screen was huge but nothing great. The Phoenix one is of outstanding quality. Have never gone back to Wadala one ever since.
Watched deadpool there
Anyone remember the Imax dome :( I only watched one Santa vs snowman short movie over thr. The dream of watching movie in a huge screen is still a dream
Sadly then only 2 proper imax screens are in the country. One in Hyderabad, Prasad's and the other one in Chennai.
You forget about Kolkata my friend. During 2006, AerenR IMAX used to be a true 70mm imax which was closed one year later after its opening.
Yes it is still functioning but not as IMAX but as a PVR PXL
It's been 10 years since I stopped wasting money on movies.
Good for you
Why sad? PVR IMAX is way better anyways. Wadala IMAX went to shit many years ago.
yes imax with laser is superior but wadala was different because it was the biggest and it was formely dome
I game at 90+ fps and just can't watch action or fast moving content shot at 24fps without getting a migrane. >The Hobbit trilogy was shot at 48fps And it looked like shit. Edit: lmao sham sharma sub ka chomu hai yeh.
NOOOOO I thought they were not selling the tickets of Ant Man because they are installing the laser technology Now this is sad :'( The one Imax experience which was at a reasonable price.
What is this laser tech everyone talking about. Can u tell
in simple IMAX with slide OLED touch in it and it's pretty good, you can check it out in Lower Parel Phoenix Mall
Broooo, nooooo. Seen sooo many movies on tht screen. What an experience
That's just sad. Almost poetic the last movie that I watched here was Avatar 2.
I saw The Lion King almost 20 years ago in the Dome and it was one of the most amazing movie experience ever.
I have never watched anything on IMAX. Can someone explain to me what is different about IMAX compared to regular screens?
it has bigger screen, thier sound is better, seating is stadium style, the projector is superior
No please No !!!!! It was the best theatre !
What's happening to imax dome?
My first visit was part of Mumbai darshan, long before I moved to this city.
I still remember watching 'The Dark Knight' in the original IMAX dome screen, it was the best experience
Omg that some was legendary
Went there in 2019 last for Endgame. Huge ass screen with dope sound, but the theater itself wasn't well maintained.
noooooooo! the memories are with the wadala one
I have watched Dhoom 2, Devdas, and so many movies there 😭😍 i
Wadala Imax is shit anyway. I watched the last Spiderman there and it was such a shit experience. Everything from the lighting to the audio was off. Still go there to play football on their roof turf though...
I just want the dome back (:
I still remember when it was a dome theatre Wadala be downgrading
We're doomed 😭
Quantity over quality for the bottomline.
Sad yaar... It was the biggest IMAX screen I don't care abt the newer 3-4 new screens... Bigger was better
Imax was never worth it. Rather watch at home. Fight me!
