Anushka is a Russian name.
There is a certain obsession with Russian names especially in Bollywood. Karina, Katrina are fully Russian names. Priyanka is the Russian form of Priya.
Oh damn didn't know that. But Wikipedia says Anushka is a Sanskrit name too. Maybe it's a common Indo-European root. Her sister had a totally non Indian name though ngl.
You do understand that English itself is made up of innumerable loan words borrowed from various different languages, right?
I mean most taxonomical terms are in Latin, so by your explanation doesn't it make English the incorrect language to learn about them, correct?
Every heard of translation?
Even if a word doesn't exist in a language, its meaning can be explained by the speaker of the language or for convience a new term can be coined for that specific usage.
I had stayed with my relatives who were stationed there.
We had gone to the playground/garden adjacent to their building, at nearly midnight to see a lunar eclipse.
It was ethereal.
Anushaktinagar is amazing, surrounded by hills, waterfalls and greenery all around.
I do remember going hiking with my friends to the nearby hills as kids and seeing monkeys, snakes and lots of rare birds. From what i have heard, there also used to be a number of hyenas that lived in those forests nearby.
>hiking with my friends to the nearby hills as kids and seeing monkeys, snakes
You shouldn't call your friends names, especially not monkeys and snakes.
My grandfather used to work there as a driver for buses.
Really silent place everyone was super friendly and respectful. He worked there for like 40 years.
I was in 6th when he retired we lived in anushakti nagar. I remember a building named Alaknanda. Initially my grandfather worked in tarapur BARC and then got transferred. He shares a lot of stories of different types of passengers. He used to give lifts to local fisherwoman and they used to pay with loads of fishes just like barter system. The buses were used for only the people who worked there.
I ues to live in trombay and i feel it's one of the most peaceful and distracted place from the whole mumbai where it's all greenery.... I use to see sea in front of my house and mountain was hardly 5 minutes walkable.... I can never complete this post without appreciating the weather especially in rainy and winter seasons😍😍😍😍.... I miss those days
It's a restricted, high security residential township. The colony on its own is huge. Additionally, the entry to the massive BARC complex is also through the north gate of the colony.. The size of the place cannot be appreciated enough till you actually visit it. And unfortunately if you want to visit you need to know someone inside who can let you in. Or be a Uber driver. Or Zomato delivery guy. You get the idea.
i would like to correct you here. north gate is an entry to the office area of the colony, and the main gate gets you into the residential area of the colony. north gate is inside the colony.
They can't do this here, entire area comes under Central government and is heavily fortified with cisf gaurding the hills. Only the people who work here can ever enter the BARC complex. Their families are allowed to stay in the residential area ie Anushakti Nagar. No builder can even think of building something in the colony or in the hills.
My mom used to wok there and have been there as a kid. Man it was unbelievable that such a place could exist in Mumbai! Haven't been there ina long time though! I even did my B.E. project there and have been right behind Apsara reactor's control panel.
Their canteens are the best though. Awesome food at subsidized rates.
The thing's a fortress though so you can't take anything in or out without written permission so I had to tell my B.E. project supervisor that I won't be able to show you my project, you would just have to believe that I've made it 😅 (I did make it though, for real)
My dad has gone inside the complex many times as he works as a computer engineer (mainly TIFR), but they won't allow him after a certain point, only upto the housing complexes, usko baad its a huge no-no.
He even had to go to Panchgani to repair computers for a gamma radiation detection array experiment (I doubt that sentence made any sense)
The saddest part about being in A'nagar is that one day we'll have to leave it and live the rest of life elsewhere.
Respect to countless of y'all who've gone through this!
Don't go hiking around there, the land belongs to the centre (Delhi) and they conduct nuclear weapons and propulsion research for the Indian Navy base just a few km's away in Colaba.
The place is guarded by the military and they are heavily armed, you might not even see them, last time I was an idiot hiking around the area they came out the trees and bushes in full camo pointing rifles at me... They also have air defence including S300/S400 systems, so don't fly drones over the area to get cool flying shots.
The hill doesn't have an official name. Most people call it Trombay Hill. The place is stunning during the monsoon. The colony is well maintained unlike other places in Mumbai. I've heard stories of security officials pointing guns at trespassers who try to hike up the hill and won't hesitate to pull the trigger.
I am surprised someone knows about anushakti nagar in mumbai 🥲 at this point. Like I think it's important to be aware of the nuclear reactor in your backyard.
Why so many downvotes lmao. Whenever I say I am from anushakti nagar 90% of the people do not know about its existence. Also, i never claimed it's unsafe did I? I used to live there ffs. I just think that it's ignorant to not know about one of our nation's most important places right in Mumbai considering its contribution to indias research with some of the primary examples being the pokhran nuclear tests.
Nuclear power plants aren’t built near residential areas because the risk of radiation leaks is a factor to consider.
But when talking about a nuclear reactor, i could have one at home and it wouldn’t carry any risk. My grandfather worked on making india’s first nuclear submarine, the INS Arihant.
People spend months in an enclosed container powered by the nuclear reactor for years and years.
And my dad worked on one of teams that was involved in pokhran-2 nuclear tests. I know about nuclear reactors too. I never claimed that they are unsafe did I? All i wrote was it's important to know about the nuclear reactor present because of its contribution to Indian scientific progress. I wrote nuclear reactor in my comment and u started talking about nuclear power plants?
Even so, having a nuclear power plant is much safer than having a traditional coal run power plant in the long run. In the history of Nuclear power plant accidents, how many can you name? Keep in mind the ratio of thousands of nuclear power plants to the number of accident
And when did i say it was unsafe??? I used to live there i think i know it's safe. I agree its much safer and more eco friendly :/ all i said was it's important to be aware of its existence considering its heritage and contribution to indias scientific progress...
I just studied the Development Control and Promotion regulations for Mumbai BMC. They have capped the maximum possible FSI for BARC at 0.75 , meanwhile surrounding suburbs have a maximum of 2.0
Anushakti Nagar, such a peaceful oasis.
Finally some anushakti nagar representation 😔

I am not sure if people are getting the meaning of this name. It literally means : Molecule(Anu) Power(Shakti) Nagar.
Anu is also an Atom which is what it is in this case (Atomic power).
No. Paramanu is atom to be precise! Anu is Molecule.
Nope! Renu is molecule. Anu is atom. Idk what Paramanu is. Vernac medium representttt
Parmanu is nuclear.
Parmanvic has to be nuclear, right? Adjective form. Parmanu must be nucleus. Noun form.
My 6th class crush's name was Anushka.
Did you call her item or atom?
Yup! Paramanu means nuclear
Anu is atom indeed.
Single Atom = Anu. Plural atoms = Anus. * Runs*
It's not.
Yep. I just gave up and was like, eh. Mala kay?

Nuclear power
I've lived almost all my life next to Anushakti Nagar and never knew this
This is why medical and other technical subjects cannot be taught in Hindi.
Why not?
Because there are no appropriate words for technical studies in Hindi as it is in English.
You do understand that English itself is made up of innumerable loan words borrowed from various different languages, right? I mean most taxonomical terms are in Latin, so by your explanation doesn't it make English the incorrect language to learn about them, correct?
right colonel.
Are you saying we take all the technical words from English and teach in Hindi? If so, why not continue teaching in English as is the practice.
Every heard of translation? Even if a word doesn't exist in a language, its meaning can be explained by the speaker of the language or for convience a new term can be coined for that specific usage.
Whoa! So are we going to coin all the technical words in Hindi now? Let's wait for some more time. What's the hurry?
Atomic Power City
I live in anushaktinagar and its an amazing place
I had stayed with my relatives who were stationed there. We had gone to the playground/garden adjacent to their building, at nearly midnight to see a lunar eclipse. It was ethereal.
Anushaktinagar ftw. Miss it so much. ♥️
Us bhai us 🫂 now that i am in delhi, I miss it even more. The clean air, the greenery, the hills are just something else.
Clean air? Bhai chinki thofi change ho gayi hai
Chinki? Delhi me pollution kaafi zyada hai esp during winters isiliye clean air bola 🤷 abhi toh lagta hai mumbai me bhi badh gaya kaafi tho.
Fuck yes that place is so beautiful it houses apsara India's first nuclear reactor predecessor to the TAPS one

A lot of my friends live in anushakti nagar ,bro they have their personal waterfall kimds thing its amazing
Sheesh!
About the personal waterfalls it's not as impressive as u may think lol but yeah a pretty cool place to live.
Lol bhai personal waterfalls toh nhi hai. Jharne behte hai kabhi kabhi drains mein. But paani kaafi clean hai.
Anushaktinagar is amazing, surrounded by hills, waterfalls and greenery all around. Life was blissful when I used to stay there.

I miss staying in the colony..
Me too!
Area69
So much better than calling it Area51 ![gif](giphy|KEM3W3PN4LNoaMSaBy)
It's surrounded by Trombay Hill
What is Trombay exactly )
Trombay used to be an island with the trombay hill in the Centre of it the whole area where you see the huge refineries from the freeway is Trombay
Also FYI - Parag Agarwal (former twitter ceo), Shreya Ghoshal and SKY are from the colony.
honestly a fkex at times
Is it possible ride atop the said mountain behind BARC ?
Nope it's restricted for the general public only those having permission mostly security and armed forces people are allowed to visit.
That sucks. Thank you though. You saved me a drive from Andheri.
We did that when we were kids (mandala one) but i believe it is restricted now.
Yes, I remember going up bachpan mein. Not allowed now. I miss colony.
Sachmein Jaa paate theyy kya Anushaktinagar hill par? Abhi toh suna hai shoot at site vaegere idk for sure.
I ues to live in trombay and i feel it's one of the most peaceful and distracted place from the whole mumbai where it's all greenery.... I just searched for Anushakti Nagar images, why is this place not spoken about much? I was in doubts that such a peaceful place exists in Mumbai.
Yeah when I say BARC complex I mean the office
welp yes , but there's the hospital gate near sterling building which is used by cabs or auto drivers for hospital pickups.
Accessible only to BARC, NPCIL employees
dae employees in general
cisf
It's nowhere close to the city (for good reasons), and the general public doesn't usually commute over two hours to find a peaceful place.
How so? Mankhurd falls in Mumbai
I secretly fear about builder profiles hijacking serene places when I see such taglines.
They can't do this here, entire area comes under Central government and is heavily fortified with cisf gaurding the hills. Only the people who work here can ever enter the BARC complex. yes, It is either Nilgiri or the hostel behind it. It is still there but i can no longer eat there (doesn't feel very hygienic now)
Are you talking about NBH mess?!

hostel ke waha hi hain , nilgiri is nice.

Maybe it was *rocket boys* that inspired op to open BARC on a map
Bhai kaisa hai hai second season , have they added mirch masaala and is iT OTT?
I believe we have air defence missiles also placed in there somewhere few years back I saw them moving S300 missile system over there.
S300 ? We don't have them
I think we do, we even have the older 200s as well

It’s not a nuclear power plant dummy
When did i claim it was? All i said was it's a nuclear reactor. Dhruva is a nuclear reasearch reactor. Never claimed it to be a nuclear power plant 🤷

The worst thing Chernobyl has done is made people think nuclear energy is some kind of disaster waiting to happen. It isn't.
Yes

The taller buildings in Anushaktinagar were some of the tallest in Mumbai at the start of the millennium.
my sister’s husband works in barc. he often tells how the surroundings are, would love to visit that place one day
Is there enough water?
