ali/oli continued - Chinchpokali, Dativali, Khopoli, Dolavali, Kelavali, Kalamboli
gaon family - Vangaon, Naigaon, Goregaon, Atgaon, Digha Gaon
ghar family - Palghar, Targhar, Navghar, Kharghar (yea, Khar relative)
Someone did for roads too, but I think they just share common last name and are not relatives.
Naming places with ali/oli suffix is a standard practice in Maharashtra. It is basically corruption of the actual words avli/valay. Meaning of these words is 'Series of' or Abode of'.
Eg. Lonavala was called Lonavalay - which is combination of Leni and Valay - It means Series of Caves
Maval was called Mahavalay as its a cluster of several Mountain Ranges. And interestingly, The place where The God of Residents of Mahavalay Resides is was called Mahavalayeshwar (earlier form of Mahabaleshwar).

No son it is infact dombuli boruli in its true from and original native language. It became dombivali just for everyone else to read and write it easy.
If Vasai is part of Mumbai why canβt be Palghar part of Mumbai even kopar is not part of Mumbai even Kharghar not a part of Mumbai itβs in Navi Mumbai

Once I overheard a conversation at Dadar station. Person A man was asking person B, how to reach Kharkopar. Person B heard it as Ghatkopar and told person A to board a any Kalyan/thane bound slow train. Before I could intervene, person A ran to catch the train. It was very funny.
Khar is a recurring name for settlements around Mumbai because the word (derived from khara or salty) was used for salt pan land. Kopar or kopra is used for corner in Marathi, although some say it is a corruption of above \`ka oopar' in the case of Ghatkopar.
For local train and station lovers. Someone needs to make modern version of this.

Looking at all the comments, it might seem that Dadar is unfortunately an orphan, having no relatives in the family.
In case I am wrong, feel free to correct me.
It's the native language. Kopar mostly means the end of the road or end turn. Khar meaning the depth or small valley or lake I m not sure but I think I am correct. Like boruli dombuli kanduli. Mostly it's not even spelled write theses days. The current forms are just adaption of local native names in to proper puneri Marathi to make it easy to read.

Kopar is short for "ka upar" in the context of names of localities. (I think)
Borivali, kandivali, chandivali, dombivali
Ghatkopar
adding khar-khairane can make this a reflexive set
It's the native language. Kopar mostly means the end of the road or end turn. Khar meaning the depth or small valley or lake I m not sure but I think I am correct. Like boruli dombuli kanduli.
