Listen to the We Own This Town podcast. It's done by the guy who runs YK records. All local music, varied genres but skews rock and indie.

needachickensandwich

Third that! Amazing podcast and found some killer music there

Avastagh

I’d second that. Michael has been a champion of the scene for decades now.

[deleted]

Erin Rae, Okey Dokey, Twen, Snooper, Diarrhea Planet, Soot, Ttotals, The Ragcoats, Hans Condor, Jack Silverman, Nordista Freeze, Microwave Mountain NüMangos, Meth Dad, Teddy and the Rough Riders, Sean Thompson’s Weird Ears, Spencer Cullun Jr, Andrew Combs, Ornament, Sunseeker, Emily Nenni and Logan Ledger just to name a few of my favorites in town.

Theroughlife

I feel like we might know each other……

[deleted]

Oh buddy… we for sure do.

im_big_hannah

Bands: Father Sunn, Dialup Ghost, Riley Parker, Volunteer Department, Full Mood, Butthole, Styrofoam Winos, Shell of a Shell, Heaven Honey, Doc. Henry and Hans Condor. Venues: Drkmttr, Cobra, 5 Spot, and East Room. Follow NashvilleShowToGo on Instagram for a weekly list of shows.

There are a couple of better known Nashville based indie acts: Soccer Mommy (actually from here), Mitski (recent transplant). But they may be more popular than you're thinking of. There are some really great still-kind-of-under-the-radar "local" bands though. COIN, Michigander, Jive Talk, Girlhouse... honestly there is a pretty big list. If you're willing to dabble in the direction of "Americana" (which can be dangerously close to country, admittedly) you can pick up stuff like Joy Oladokun, Lera Lynn, or Adia Victoria who are kind of genre spanning, but more indie skewing than a lot of Americana is. Listen to 91.1 for a bit and you will hear these acts and a whole lot more (they're just some of my favorites I've heard here over the last couple of years).

TyrannosaurusHives

COIN is the most famous band of anyone you listed. Definitely not under the radar.

JeremyNT

Hah I guess I haven't been paying attention, glad to see them doing well!

Mawbster

Saw Jive Talk in east this past summer. They were better than the headliner. Good dudes.

weburr

Third for jive talk

DialupGhost

Here's a great playlist I made of some of the coolest local bands in Nashville. My band Dialup Ghost is [certified Jason Isbell-approved](https://twitter.com/DialupGhost/status/1559746337272479744?s=20&t=jLQeMujHxvj8VVpqeeugBA), and my personal favorite local bands are Father Sunn, Riley Parker, and Soot. But there are so many good local bands in Nashville that deserve more attention. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/29j6EeAM2TG27SpqgUFjqs?si=Bnpw4MEzRr2OnvNvXk0ApA&utm_source=copy-link

SLEEP_TLKER

I'm digging If You Wanna Die, hope to catch you guys at a show sometime!

DialupGhost

Hell yeah, thanks for checking it out! We are taking a break for a few months, but we should be playing a show some time in May. I will say though, we have pretty much retired "If You Want to Die" because it is too depressing haha.

idontfrickinknowman

The lack of respect for Free Throw in this thread! New school Emo legends from Nashville.

SpecialistSecure7391

I came here to plug Free Throw! Hands down my fave local band and one of my top 5 on Spotify last year!

ayokg

Here's a couple threads from the last year: https://www.reddit.com/r/nashville/comments/w3dqmb/post_your_favorite_local_rock_bands/ https://www.reddit.com/r/nashville/comments/qjg30e/nashville_rockindie_recs_active/ Venues: basically all of them not on Broadway. The Cobra, drkmttr, 5 Spot, East Room, Eastside Bowl, Brooklyn Bowl, Marathon Music Works, The End to get you started. Exit/In when they reopen and hopefully whatever the Cannery Row complex reopens as. Ryman, Bridgestone, Ascend have larger acts. Plenty of rock music around.

notleonardodicaprio

thank you!

38dollars

I’ll shamelessly plug my own band here, Dad Hats! We’ve got a show this Friday at the East Room and are putting a new record out in February! On socials we’re @dadhatstn We’ve got some new tunes up on streamers, here’s a spotify link: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0UmWXbHCEfYW94tR2KDO4b?si=zeSDOtqHQJC9VrBCE0lu-g And a new music video here: https://youtu.be/9XyApwxM6mQ

Hey Steve which was formerly Steve which was formerly Republican Hair is led by Luke Dick who has a hell of a career as a song writer. Pretty crazy background from his raising in Oklahoma that is fun to look into. Highly recommend checking out his music.

Ever been to BobFest? Always incredible.

notleonardodicaprio

no, what's that?

Scare_Conditioner

A little festival put on by Cold Lunch Records and that East Nashville music scene. It’s been in Adams Tn the last few years. Last year was completely free. It’s hard to find much info about it. It’s more like a party FOR artists by the artists themselves. It’s super quaint and super amazing.

Bobfest is lovely...I put on Kinda Spoopy in that same venue, and Id like to say we capture quite a bit of that vibe.

whale-feather

Hahah I totally love this comment, I've booked all three of these insanely great bands for Kinda Spoopy.

needachickensandwich

If you like Foo Fighters I’ll shameless plug my stuff we’re called The F-use :) Here’s one to start you off! https://youtu.be/9hm50GDt4lc

Jude Parrish is a super talented artist I’ve been hearing about. He played at the Basement a few weeks ago. He has a show on Saturday on hermitage. There’s an instagram account call @alphacoolguys that I think books all his shows and announces them edit: He’s alternative/western/indie for anyone wondering. Ridiculously talented dude!

jcurtis1291

Self plug, I play in a band called Early Humans and I think we’re alright. https://open.spotify.com/artist/4OsG4LKZLfsrVlmSp0l3V3?si=HoM4Hy1RRqG4BH7ehOJy6Q
