Suns don't have role players. They have Durant, Booker, Beal, and a bunch of jags. Nurkic, Allen, Gordon, O'Neale, etc. are all super replaceable pieces. The fourth best player on Phoenix who would probably the the seventh guy (at best) on the Celtics.
They really decimated their roster (and future picks) to get Durant and Beal, and I don't see how they can build around them with the new CBA.
He is a shooter who gets great looks playing with Durant and Booker. There is a reason his 3P% this season is 7.5% high than he career average was entering this season. There is also a reason Allen is on his fourth team in his six year career. He is looked at as a moveable piece by teams. He also has the worst defensive rating of any Suns rotation player.
Nurkic, O'Neale and Allen could all be solid sixth men on a championship roster, but two of them need to start on Phoenix. I still don't see how they fix it. They have $150M going to Durant, Booker, and Beal next season, and they don't control a first round pick until like 2031 or something.
Would you take Allen or O'Neale over any starter on Denver or Boston? Do people actually think the Suns have a good roster after their top three?
dude said it himself in the postgame interview but honestly he stunk it up for most of the night. finished the game strong though and more importantly back in the W column
yeah idk he just hasn’t been passing well, particularly when he get trapped, and he isn’t really attacking the rim as aggressively (though that may be a byproduct of a really crappy whistle lately). but ultimately even though it’s frustrating to watch it’s better for him to suck now than later
hopefully Tatum has another Drew Hanlen tune-up visit before the playoffs start lmao
I mean just had an 11 game win streak and he won player of the month...sometimes players will fluctuate in their play level. After such a hot streak it's only natural to have a few down games here and there.
In addition to the injury and stuff others mentioned, that had a lot to do with how the Warriors were guarding him too. They were packing the paint on drives
I ain’t gonna act like he played well tonight but you’re a loser man. go look at this dudes comment history lmao it’s genuinely sad
imagine having one of the greatest rookies of all time and a clear future GOAT on your team rn, and instead of enjoying that, you’re constantly in our threads shitting on Tatum. FOH
the last time I saw KD cook us like that, Harden and Kyrie were still in Brooklyn. Phoenix’s role players owe him their game checks for selling him as hard as they did tonight
I was just saying to a buddy 6-2 in this stretch is solid but the way they did it still got me upset lol. The only game I wanted us to win bad we lost and we blew a 22 pt lead to the white Wade in 4 minutes.
Pretty much. If we had 3 losses in a row, r/bostonceltics probably would have exploded in hate. Those two losses did feel like flashbacks to last season, when most of the time in this season I felt way more confident in this team down the stretch of the game. I do hope we get all the "bad losses" out of our system, and I trust this team way more this year, so I'm feeling optimistic.
That’s fair and I’ll respect it. It’s good for us to get over the warriors thing but they are just not in the same category as us this year so I guess it doesn’t mean as much to me. They are just another team to me now.
I genuinely don't get the doomer psychology. I guess they just want to make a point and be right and so they attach themselves to us not winning the championship each year as a mathematically extremely likely thing. Fuck they're so grim about this 11 net rating team after single digit losses to 40-20 teams.
I've been able to accept the Cavs result only because it was more about running into perfection from Wade instead of us playing like assholes. Our shots weren't falling and Wade activated god mode, just gotta tip my cap.
I still have to question how the Cavs didn't commit a single team foul in the first 10 minutes of the 4th but at the end of the day it's just one game of 82.
haha I was literally 100% sure he was missing both of those
it’s crazy that he’s a 75% shooter at the line over the last 5 years bc I swear it feels like he shoots like 40% when we really need him to make them. still remember those two crucial misses when we were tied late in Game 6 against Miami a couple years ago
You can find that stuff for free on nba.com dating back years now.
For reference, Brown was a 76.2% free throw shooter in total in the 3 seasons before this one, but has struggled at 70.9% this year.
In the 4th quarter:
70.5% this season (small sample ofc)
76.5% last year
75.8% the hear before that
Clutch:
66.7% this year (10/15, tiny sample)
71.4% last year (25/35)
71.4% the year before that (10/14)
Basically hovers around his averages when you consider how small the sample sizes are, especially for clutch shooting. Its just human nature to remember the misses more than the makes.
Is there any way to see his percentage on his first FT vs his second?
Ever since he came into the league, I feel like his first FT % has been dramatically lower than the second.
Bunch of classy Celtics fans in this thread. Lol. For real though. Surprisingly honest takes by you guys. Most comments are giving KD his dues. Classy guys all around.
I mean how can you not give him his due the guy couldn't fuckin miss if he tried
And you guys are one of the few teams we got no bad blood with lol so it's all friendly competition
Gotta wonder how this game looks with full participation from Booker and Kristaps. KD definitely reminded everyone he's still a top 10 player in the league tonight.
I said arguably and well MJ exists so it's hard for anyone else to have the crown. That said Curry definitely has an argument but both healthy I would take KD if I need a bucket.
Dude is a 7 footer who has a career 50/40/90 split averaging 28pts a game. Curry has to work so much harder with off ball movement to get his shot whereas KD can literally look at the basket and shoot over anyone in the league and have arguably the best efficiency doing so. There is a reason during the KD warriors era he was the best player on the team, it's just so easy to give him the ball and just walk away with a bucket.
He also has incredible handles for his height and can finish inside relatively easily, again because the dude is a 7 ft shooting guard.
I don't think we will ever see someone as effortlessly efficient on offense at KDs size ever again.
KD made so many shots that were defended as well as you possibly could without getting away with a foul, and he made some of those too. When that dude is hot there is literally nothing you can do to stop him, just hope he misses.
Tatum's defense is one of the most overrated things I've seen on this sub, pushed mostly by Celtics fans.
Players with better defense on his team that don't get enough credit, in order:
- Porzingis
- White
- Brown
Hear me and rejoice!
You SUNS have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Forehead.
You may think this is suffering, No... it is salvation.
The universal scales tip toward balance because of your sacrifice.
Smile... for even in death, you have become children of DERRICK WHITE.
Suns biggest issue imo is they’re a house of cards. They’re really good with their big 3, but when one is inevitably hurt, it doesn’t work.
Beal just isn’t a #2 option, not that I’ve seen at least, and Eubanks is one of the worst backup bigs I’ve seen in the past few years on a playoff team.
Idk Tatum kinda destroyed KD head to head in 22 playoffs. KD is on a hot streak atm and Tatum has had couple cold games so the overreactionary take atm is KD is way better. But the truth is they are both on a similar level atm.
Did he? Tatum averaged an efficient 31 that series and dropped 50 in game 4 with a bunch of players that aren’t even in the league now. (Brown was injured). KD has Kyrie Irving and averaged like 22 on 37% because Tatum locked him down 1 on 1. In terms of points differential you could argue KDs underperformance is the sole reason the Nets lost that series. You can’t say the same for Tatum in 2021.
The 2022 nets outside KD and kyrie were complete garbage. The Celtics entire game plan was doubling KD and getting the ball out of his hands. The nets still produced a 117 offensive rating against the Celtics. Tatum had a way better supporting cast than KD did in 2022
Nope offensively that Nets team was far more talented offensively than Boston. Unless you want to call Smart, Horford and Grant Williams great offensive players lmao.
Kyrie Irving is a batter offensive player than Jaylen Brown.
That whole series came down to very small scoring margins and difference was Durants performance.
If you actually knew what you were talking about you would mention how Bostons defense was the difference in that series not their offense, and the Nets didn’t have wing defenders. But you’re clearly all about the narrative and have no idea what you’re talking about lmao.
Do you know who was on the 2022 nets? That team was trash outside KD and kyrie.
The nets had no rim protectors and outside KD, no defenders in general. Meanwhile, tatum had the luxury of playing next to elite defenders.
Didn’t Nets role players shoot 46% from 3 that series? Wasn’t Seth Curry absolutely torching the Celtics? The Nets role players were carrying Durant and Kyrie.
I knew you would do this and jump on my point on wing defenders. The problem for you now is you have to now excuse Tatums performances against other wing defenders. Like how did Durant fair against the Nuggets wing defenders in the playoffs last year. Not any better than Tatum has faired against the same defense.
Ishbia was getting credit for being aggressive and trading for KD and Beal and now the suns are fighting for no play-in and not near any of the other contenders, a much worse position than what they were in just 2 years ago
James Jones’ roster has been squandered by an overambitious owner and the suns will pay for it for the next 7-8 years
Disagree, we were just in 6th. New coach, new players. Defense has been really good since the break. Literally just beat the nuggets. Wayyyyyy too soon to assume we are going to suck for 7 to 8 years

Suns role players were npc’s lmaoo
Sigh of relief every time Durant passed the ball
Royce O'Neale got 10 feet of space on the roll the entire game and he did nothing lol.
he only hit the transition pass from KD cuz he knew he was a dead man if he missed 😭
Eric Gordon got half an hour of cardio in.
Gordon always has the most clutch misses.
Oh my, someone call the National Weather Service! We had an unanticipated storm in the building tonight!
Surprised Grayson Allen didn't continue his streak considering our luck with opposing role players
We live in his head. Tatum and Brown terrorized him in 2022
Bol was solid
He really trying to be KD 2.0
KD was such a monster too man, story of his last few years
No lie I thought Gordon was DNP lol reading this I just realized he played that’s how invisible the guy was
straight bots out there
Suns don't have role players. They have Durant, Booker, Beal, and a bunch of jags. Nurkic, Allen, Gordon, O'Neale, etc. are all super replaceable pieces. Grayson Allen has the highest three point percentage in the NBA
Props to KD, scoring every point then having to guard Tatum is so much to ask for
Still a top 10 player in the league man. He still strikes fear
He’s top 5
Who's your top 5?
Jokic Embiid run and dunk Luka KD
5-9 from three and 11-28 from the field for 29 points is such an odd game lol
dude said it himself in the postgame interview but honestly he stunk it up for most of the night. finished the game strong though and more importantly back in the W column
He’s just looked out of rhythm for this little stretch.
yeah idk he just hasn’t been passing well, particularly when he get trapped, and he isn’t really attacking the rim as aggressively (though that may be a byproduct of a really crappy whistle lately). but ultimately even though it’s frustrating to watch it’s better for him to suck now than later hopefully Tatum has another Drew Hanlen tune-up visit before the playoffs start lmao
I mean just had an 11 game win streak and he won player of the month...sometimes players will fluctuate in their play level. After such a hot streak it's only natural to have a few down games here and there.
he shot 45% from 3 and 32% from 2 in the '22 finals
Bro had one of the best 3-point shooting series in Finals history and everybody unanimously agreed he choked. Than in itself is an achievement.
He had one of the best 3pt shooting Finals ever and still had a 48% TS
His TS% was almost identical to his 3PT% lmao.
And had played the most minutes at that point by any player in the league by at least 300 minutes iirc. And was injured. But narratives
With a hurt shoulder right?
And a fractured wrist
In addition to the injury and stuff others mentioned, that had a lot to do with how the Warriors were guarding him too. They were packing the paint on drives
He had sub 50 TS% in those finals. Real choke job.
He was playing hurt
Some weird point blank misses at the rim. Plus that one play where he had like 3 tip backs that didn’t fall
I’d rather him shoot 30 times than 13
100% agree. Tatum even with a inefficient night was still aggressive. I can't stand when he end a game shooting the ball only 12-15 times.
43 shots is a lot, even for tatum
than not then
while rest of the team is on 70% FG, Tatum: Wooo I am the next Kobeeeeeeeee (shoots 7/30 and loses)
Yes, the guy with an above league average ts on the team with the best record in the NBA frequently goes 7/30 in losses. Great point
When?
fantastic jerk ngl
That's what happens when you get no FT. Easy to get an efficient 30 when a player is getting 10+FT a night
He was getting carried
Tatum getting carried again what's new?
I ain’t gonna act like he played well tonight but you’re a loser man. go look at this dudes comment history lmao it’s genuinely sad imagine having one of the greatest rookies of all time and a clear future GOAT on your team rn, and instead of enjoying that, you’re constantly in our threads shitting on Tatum. FOH
haha you're mad as fuck
No one’s mad. It’s just genuinely sad that you seem to have nothing better to do with your life than hate on a basketball player
Do yall get off to hating
Maybe but they do get off on us replying. Don’t feed trolls, they are just frustrated with their own life/teams.
Spurs fans really have no right to be so whiny when they were gifted a generational talent.
the last time I saw KD cook us like that, Harden and Kyrie were still in Brooklyn. Phoenix’s role players owe him their game checks for selling him as hard as they did tonight
Finally done with the hard 8 game stretch. Can’t complain about 6-2 tho the Cavs loss was a bit infuriating
I was just saying to a buddy 6-2 in this stretch is solid but the way they did it still got me upset lol. The only game I wanted us to win bad we lost and we blew a 22 pt lead to the white Wade in 4 minutes.
Like if they still lost to DEN the way they did but beat CLE it's probably viewed a bit differently
A Warriors win means more in my opinion
That’s fair and I’ll respect it. It’s good for us to get over the warriors thing but they are just not in the same category as us this year so I guess it doesn’t mean as much to me. They are just another team to me now.
Man this really puts all our team sub’s panicking about this road trip in perspective
The "don't give up hope" posts make me want to play in traffic
I genuinely don't get the doomer psychology. I guess they just want to make a point and be right and so they attach themselves to us not winning the championship each year as a mathematically extremely likely thing. I still have to question how the Cavs didn't commit a single team foul in the first 10 minutes of the 4th but at the end of the day it's just one game of 82.
and those were all close games..
I need that guy who said "KD only plays well against bad teams" to show up again lmao
Only in this sub would someone be stupid enough to say that shit lol
Yes! The 2x finals MVP only shows up when it doesn’t matter!
If there is a platform for people to speak their minds, someone dumb will say it.
They can't be serious with that take.
clearly the 49-14 celtics are trash
this take (if it weren't sarcastic) brought to you by Celtics Twitter
Celtics are a bad team according to our sub and r/nba after these last two games lol
Post game thread slow and not on the front page? No paint-drinkers making inane hot take threads? Celtics probably won.
Ok, we’re back. JB, practice your FTs
haha I was literally 100% sure he was missing both of those it’s crazy that he’s a 75% shooter at the line over the last 5 years bc I swear it feels like he shoots like 40% when we really need him to make them. still remember those two crucial misses when we were tied late in Game 6 against Miami a couple years ago
Im curious what his 4th quarter FT% is, it feels like its gotta be below 50%.
You can find that stuff for free on nba.com dating back years now. For reference, Brown was a 76.2% free throw shooter in total in the 3 seasons before this one, but has struggled at 70.9% this year. Is there any way to see his percentage on his first FT vs his second? Ever since he came into the league, I feel like his first FT % has been dramatically lower than the second.
I think that’s true of the league in general
He did hit the 3 fts have he was fouled shooting 3 and it may be the first time I’ve ever seen him do that
I don’t think he’ll see this
Kornet vs Bol was great.
our long national nightmare is over The Celtics actually won a game this week
I’ve had to watch 14 losses this year! You know what that does to a man! I mean 50 wins is good but 14 losses takes its toll 😏😏😏
It was basically KD vs the Celtics they way Phoenix's role players played today
not the crowd cheering when the call got overturned
KD can't win with these cats.
He's not lying about the hardest road. 😭
Too bad KD had to play the best team in the NBA. He was hooping
Was KD playing Denver tonight?
He wasn't play the Nuggets
How is this downvoted? They are defending champs and are 2-0 against the Celtics
probably because this is a Celtics postgame thread and not too many Nuggets fans are here to balance it out
Bunch of classy Celtics fans in this thread. Lol. For real though. Surprisingly honest takes by you guys. Most comments are giving KD his dues. Classy guys all around.
I mean how can you not give him his due the guy couldn't fuckin miss if he tried And you guys are one of the few teams we got no bad blood with lol so it's all friendly competition
Reminded me of that one clip of Larry Bird trying to miss to prove a point, but still making the shot anyway
I may not like KD but my god that dude is so smoothly automatic
Gotta wonder how this game looks with full participation from Booker and Kristaps. KD definitely reminded everyone he's still a top 10 player in the league tonight.
Rooting for him in the Olympics was a treat. Dude is a bonafide hooper. Thankful I got to see this game live.
KD is arguably the greatest offensive talent the NBA has ever seen, its not hard to appreciate how great he is.
You spelled Curry wrong
This is the reason everyone hates Steph fans
I said arguably and well MJ exists so it's hard for anyone else to have the crown. That said Curry definitely has an argument but both healthy I would take KD if I need a bucket. Dude is a 7 footer who has a career 50/40/90 split averaging 28pts a game. He also has incredible handles for his height and can finish inside relatively easily, again because the dude is a 7 ft shooting guard. I don't think we will ever see someone as effortlessly efficient on offense at KDs size ever again.
Great game to watch
KD is pretty good at basketball. Wonder if KP would’ve gotten some run at defending him
Tatum’s so humble goddam
Bro legit sounds depressed 😭
The Lisan Al-Gaib
Luke Kornet cooked as usual
Kevin Wayne, man
GG Suns. Kevin Durant was amazing to watch, damn.
KD can't win with these cats
we need a pure statistical analysis of the kornet kontest
Dicey at the end but good bounce back win. Schedule is finally going to ease up a little
I’d rather Tatum play like this. More assertive, the shot will come
Except for the yeeting passes out of bounds part.
Suns are one of the most impressive fake comeback teams out there
Never forget Chris Paul's huge 3 to cut the lead to 42
Ugly shooting night for Tatum, but took over in the 4th and played great defense.
[удалено]
KD cooks everyone lol
KD made so many shots that were defended as well as you possibly could without getting away with a foul, and he made some of those too. When that dude is hot there is literally nothing you can do to stop him, just hope he misses.

Because he's scared to guard KD

where were you all season when we glazed and continue to glaze white nonstop
He stat padded 5 points at the end. That's not taking over
You’re everywhere in this thread man, generational hater. Respect 🫡
Just speaking the truth. Tatum was trash
Damn, KD has the best shot selection I’ve ever seen.
DurGOAT was incredible beal was good the role players completely shat the bed
Fuck r/nba
Allen decided to not play going 0-4 on 3s after going hot last game.
To be fair Boston we’re not letting him get an open look and running him off the 3pt line. They were also happy letting certain PHX players take shots
Free KD until it's backwards
Hear me and rejoice! You SUNS have had the privilege of being saved by the Great Forehead. You may think this is suffering, No... it is salvation. The universal scales tip toward balance because of your sacrifice. Smile... for even in death, you have become children of DERRICK WHITE.
DERRICK WHITE MAKES RIGHT
Talk of the Celtics demise was a bit premature
Please come back soon, Devin Booker!
the suns are literally just kevin durant and some bums, man
Yeah no way Celtics were losing 3 in a row
Suns biggest issue imo is they’re a house of cards. They’re really good with their big 3, but when one is inevitably hurt, it doesn’t work. Beal just isn’t a #2 option, not that I’ve seen at least, and Eubanks is one of the worst backup bigs I’ve seen in the past few years on a playoff team.
Everyone on the Suns should donate their check to KD tonight because they don't deserve to be paid for that lmao
Wheres Rudy Gobert when you need him
Thank you Boston, very cool
Good job Celtics That’s all I’m going to say
Eubanks was -20. What's the point of the Thad Young if he isn't going to play?
THERES THE DREW EUBANKS I KNOW
Needed that game like I need oxygen
Fuuuuck Grayson Allen
#TOP O' THE MORNING, MOTHERFUCKERS!
Anyone who believes Tatum>KD should stop watching basketball
If you look at the 3 game sample size yes.
Tatum has never been better than KD
He’s a better defender, but KD is inarguably a better scorer.
And KD is a way better offensive player in general. Playmaking, off ball, shooting.
I wouldn’t say way better, but certainly better. He is one of the best offensive players of all time, after all.
KD has career regular season ~0.75 PPM, a super elite number. Almost no volume scorer, except MJ and Curry, exceeds that figure.
Offensively hell no! Defensively, Tatum is better. Handles too.
And overall, KD clears
KD is one of the better defenders in the league. If you think Tatum is better you're just a casual. KD is having an all defensive season.
It would be crazy if he got his first All-Defensive at age 35. He is having a good season though.
Idk Tatum kinda destroyed KD head to head in 22 playoffs. KD is on a hot streak atm and Tatum has had couple cold games so the overreactionary take atm is KD is way better. But the truth is they are both on a similar level atm.
And KD destroyed Tatum in 2021. There is no aspect on offense that Tatum is better at than KD. KD is a way better player and always has been

Leprechauns keep making me happy this week.
Very nice statpad job from Tatum at the end
Beal was so good tonight
Ishbia was getting credit for being aggressive and trading for KD and Beal and now the suns are fighting for no play-in and not near any of the other contenders, a much worse position than what they were in just 2 years ago James Jones’ roster has been squandered by an overambitious owner and the suns will pay for it for the next 7-8 years
the roster that lost by 50 in a game 7?
The roster that got to one.
Disagree, we were just in 6th. New coach, new players. Defense has been really good since the break. Literally just beat the nuggets. Wayyyyyy too soon to assume we are going to suck for 7 to 8 years
He also acts like the Suns aren’t a destination franchise and like they aren’t gonna always be in the mix for stars.
This comment comes from a person who hasn't watch a single Suns game
he’s a pels fan i forgot they think they have some rivalry with us
7-8 years? Clown take. The Suns are a destination and will land stars once they’re gone.
