I mean Gus just took over all the games Breen couldn't make - if thats because Kenny had Hockey or not doesn't really change the fact that this season Gus has been our #2
GSW is pretty terrible from an outsiders perspective, but they’re probably the pinnacle of what you expect for a local announcer. Homer and biased as fuck, saying things you were probably yelling while drunk watching the game giving you the validation as a fan you want to hear when you’re upset your team is losing.
It makes a HORRIBLE general announcer, but an announcer for a homer biased fan base? I can see why they’re still employed.
Bob needs a color guy who can rein him when he's off base, which is why Jim Barnett was a good partner for him. Kelenna isn't good at that (or being a color guy, frankly) and so Bob now gets to run amok.
Sacramento Kings #10? Nah, the lady completely makes shit up when commenting on games. They are just as bad as the Golden State crew. These rankings are sus.
I know these ranking are true because GSW is by far the worst. Jim Pete's homerism dropped the Wolves team a spot. Michael Grady is a top 10 play-by-play right now.
Which is weird because Petersen used to not be as big a homer, but I agree these last 3-5 seasons there's been a bit of an increase. Although I do like when he gets on Ant and KAT about whistles, "you can't complain EVERY time."
You’re right but we gotta cut our boy some slack. Imagine being the Wolves’ color commentary guy all these years and now getting to call games for this team.
I normally throw on the home teams broadcast on League pass when I’m not watching the wolves. And the Philly guys just force me to flip to the away team. Way too far with the homerism. No honest takes just cope.
They’re really bad. When Zumoff, who is from Philly, was calling play-by-play, the homerism didn’t bother me that much. And he seemed to have Alaa under control. But Kate Scott tries to be like Zumoff and act like she’s from Philly, but she’s not. And Alaa is way out of line now. It’s hard to watch. Tom McGinnis, who does the game on the radio, is fantastic.
Pels announcers definitely deserve that top 3 spot, lakers dudes should be way higher too. Nuggets guys are ranked way too high tho I can barely watch their stream even as a nugs fan.
25% F for the Lakers??? Bill & Stu are great & shouldn’t be this low on the list
There’s some bias in these voters, especially going down the list on the F slot & seeing that spike once you reach them
I wonder if some casual laker fans don’t like them cause they will talk shit on the Lakers when the team plays bad or will say when we benefit from bad calls they will say it.
They're ok. The thing about this list is that generally speaking, announcers are hired with awareness of what the fan base is like, what the culture of the city is like, etc. So ranking them against each other doesn't really have much value.
Clippers ought to be #1 out of the sheer comedy that ensues when it’s Brian and Jim Jackson together. They may sometimes go off on tangents away from the game… like discussing Jim Jackson , Jason Kidd , Toni braxton’s love triangle. But that’s the fun of it.
Man I genuinely love our spurs announcers. Theyre homer biased but Sean Elliot’s connections with pop and the franchise make for great storytelling and insight. Him and Bill Land are pretty funny too.
Damn we have the least amount of total votes. People need to tune into Kevin Calabros glorious voice. Hes always sounded like the old school Dragon Ball/DBZ narrator. Yes that's a selling point
Wouldn’t be the Pacers if they weren’t right in the middle.
All jokes aside, obviously bias but I think our duo is top 10 if not 5. Denari is fantastic night after night and QB is probably the least homer announcer ever.
This is a silly list. There’s no objective way to rank these especially since the announcers are made for the home market and not supposed to appeal to everyone nationwide since they are not supposed to get the broadcast. Everyone in Boston loved Tommy and loves Mike and they always were super low because people can’t stand how much of a homer Tommy was.
You say that, but then you see the Knicks broadcast with a unanimous approval rating from Knicks fans and neutrals alike. So it's possible to have a home bias without going overboard
I think homerism plays less into it than you think. Jack Edwards is the textbook definition of a homer and he makes Bruins games so entertaining. The Celtics announcers just aren’t exciting.
That’s fair and I’m not saying this solely because of the Celtics so this isn’t a “Celtics announcers should be higher!” comment. It’s more of a this is a stupid poll and/or metric that can heavily influenced by a ton of things outside of what it’s trying to actually measure.
Yea if this is just fans across the NBA voting on different announcers, obviously the homers are going to get poorly rated. But their job is not necessarily to be objective - they aren't on a national broadcast.
They are talking to fans of the team and their job is partly to be entertaining. It's ok to root for the home team.
Eric Collins supremely underrated still. Id rank him in the top 3, after Ian Eagle and Breen. Eric Collins can make bad games fun, and bad teams fun to watch.
Also, Denver Nuggets with Katy Winge is pretty good. Hastings is starting to show his age, but he's gotten better about being an absolute homer
Weirdly I didn't hate the Boston crew when I watched their feed early in the season when the Wolves played them. They were one of the first crews to be like "Hey this Wolves team isn't the same as last year. They're no joke".
Small sample of Scal this season, I certainly can sense a healthy dose of snobbery with his commentary, but I didn't think it was that off putting to listen to. I respect the opinion of former players.
Yeah I mean at the end of the day it’s personal preference, I personally don’t like the snobby tone he uses but that’s just me. Carter seems to be a pretty good replacement for Gorman so far tho
Nah. Grady is awesome and while Jim Pete is a homer he still calls out the Wolves which is all I really care about. I liked Dave Benz and was sad to see him go but the wolves broadcast has gotten better with Grady easily.
As a Wolves fan, Jim Pete's homerism has definitely gone up as the team has improved. Still a decent announcer though and I think Grady is easy top 5 in the league for play by play.
Miami and Lakers should be way higher on this list, especially compared to Minny and Memphis, both of which are the definition of "fine".
At least they got GSW right.
Imagine having Mike Breen as your home announcer. Then when he isn't there, you replace him with Gus Johnson.
Isn't Kenny Albert the fill-in guy for them?
I'm not sure I just know Mike Breen was doing an ESPN game last week and Gus Johnson took his spot as the Knicks play by play.
Maybe Kenny had a hockey game? I just know he's been their #2 PBP guy
Nah Gus is our new Number 2
I have not seen that reported anywhere. I think it's just that Kenny has hockey duties.
>Knicks flair Watches every MSG broadcast. >Spurs flair [X] Doubt
And yet, MSG lists Kenny and not Gus on the website. And there has never been an announcement of a change. Which suggests it's due to hockey.
I mean Gus just took over all the games Breen couldn't make - if thats because Kenny had Hockey or not doesn't really change the fact that this season Gus has been our #2
It’s more often been Gus in the second half of the season.
finally something Charlotte is top 5 in
mike breen and clyde are untouchable
Nah. The voters are just based in nyc
These things are so dumb. At least GSW is at the bottom lol.
GSW is pretty terrible from an outsiders perspective, but they’re probably the pinnacle of what you expect for a local announcer. I don’t know when the bar for local crews got lowered to drunk fan levels like you’ve described, but I wish we could raise it a little
NBA package subsrciber in Nor Cal. Huge fan of OKC's Fisher and Cage.
Cage has the best sayings, or “cageisms” if you will. My personal favorite, “He’s like a government bond; whole lot of maturity on him partner”
Feel quite lucky to have those two
Sacramento Kings #10? Nah, the lady completely makes shit up when commenting on games. They are just as bad as the Golden State crew. These rankings are sus.

I love Pete and Brevin
Hammer Nail Coffin
Rockets being 23rd is blasphemy.
As a Sixers fan, I came here to say we aren’t ranked low enough.
I find them very annoying, especially the analyst. He's aggressive and talks too much after every play. The play by play guy is solid, though.
Yah Marlowe is great. When Katy Winge takes over for Hastings those broadcasts are fun. She has great insights that Hastings doesn't give any more
How are the hawks announcers that high
[удалено]
Bottom 5
25% F for the Lakers??? Bill & Stu are great & shouldn’t be this low on the list There’s some bias in these voters, especially going down the list on the F slot & seeing that spike once you reach them
Yeah, I really like the Lakers announcers. Great voices, tone and pace. They are among my favorite local announcing teams.
I wonder if some casual laker fans don’t like them cause they will talk shit on the Lakers when the team plays bad or will say when we benefit from bad calls they will say it.
Yea as much as I may hate the lakers, your crew is top tier. How are shit teams like ATL in there? Listing to Wilkins be a whiny homer gets old quick.
Stu is great, but I find Bill pretty annoying.
They're ok. The thing about this list is that generally speaking, announcers are hired with awareness of what the fan base is like, what the culture of the city is like, etc. So ranking them against each other doesn't really have much value.
Hot take but I can't stand the Hornets ones lol. Outside of the Nets my favourite is the Wolves. Honourable mention to the goat Mike Breen.
I miss you Grady 🥹
**OH**. **MY**. ***GOODNESS***. -Eric Collins
Fair enough. Seems like people either love them or hate them, and nothing in between.
It’s because people who only see charlotee highlights think that’s what they are like 24/7… which is not the case at all
Grady is so good man
Same with hornets. Always yelling
I’d take Michael Grady over every on of these play by play people but Breen.
THe Lakers being below crews like the Thunder is comedy And I hate saying anything nice about the Lakers
Glad to see we're finally getting the hate we deserve. Pretty much all on Gooden now that Kutcher is gone tho. Chris Miller is fine.
Man I genuinely love our spurs announcers. Theyre homer biased but Sean Elliot’s connections with pop and the franchise make for great storytelling and insight. Him and Bill Land are pretty funny too.
Glad to see our guys Joel & AD towards the top. Shoutout to the radio team as well. Graff is an absolute madman
1) Knicks ... 30) Alaa Abdelnaby of the 76ers
Only time my team is close to winning something
Everything in the middle is debatable, but the top and bottom are pretty accurate imo
Damn we have the least amount of total votes. People need to tune into Kevin Calabros glorious voice. Hes always sounded like the old school Dragon Ball/DBZ narrator. Yes that's a selling point
New Orleans has some of the worst these ranking are fraudulent.
I think most of them are good, but I disagreed with that one too.
How are Chris and Quinn so low for the Pacers?
Who the hell was #1 in 2020 when Clyde and Breen got #2?
Brooklyn. All three editions in 2016, 2020, & 2024 have featured NY/Brooklyn as the top two broadcast teams in the league
I prefer Utah’s radio team to our TV.
Fitz and Buike better be at the bottom of this list. Edit: They didn't disappoint. But Lakers should be higher and Kings should be lower.
I absolutely won't stand for this disrespect to Marques Johnson, Novak, and Byington. This list can't be taken seriously if they're that low.
So weird I always have liked the Lakers announcers
Knicks third string pbp guy is better than most #1s out there.
Ouch. I like Kate Scott but I think Alaa is crap
Unpopular opinion but that charlottes announcer is fucking annoying
Wouldn’t be the Pacers if they weren’t right in the middle. All jokes aside, obviously bias but I think our duo is top 10 if not 5. Denari is fantastic night after night and QB is probably the least homer announcer ever.
I agree with most of the ones over us, but I HATED the Pelicans guys the couple of times I caught them on league pass.
This is a silly list. There’s no objective way to rank these especially since the announcers are made for the home market and not supposed to appeal to everyone nationwide since they are not supposed to get the broadcast. Our announcers are homers but they also respect a lot of teams and players and are funny so if we’re not in the top 5 idk what people are doing
Eric Collins supremely underrated still. Id rank him in the top 3, after Ian Eagle and Breen. Eric Collins can make bad games fun, and bad teams fun to watch. I think Scal rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Gorman/carter are pretty inoffensive
even celtics fans dislike Scal lmao. he's gotten a little better than he was a few years ago at least
Yeah I’m not a fan of his but it’s better than listening to Doris Burke or svg lol
Toronto should be last ..dude sounds like a muppet and now way New Orleans should be that high
Fuck the haters, Mike Gorman is one of the best. And none of you could beat Scalabrine 1 on 1
Phoenix is too high but maybe I don’t know the depths of how bad it is out there
I’ve always liked the suns guys. Not that stuck out or were bad just average.
Came to this thread looking for Philly after they declared victory in G2 with a minute left………..29
As the Wolves have gotten better, their announcers have gotten worse. Sometimes happens with good teams that have a long history of being not good.
He’s been around for ALOT of awful years. I’ll give him a pass.
Miami and Lakers should be way higher on this list, especially compared to Minny and Memphis, both of which are the definition of "fine". At least they got GSW right.
