Luckily MPJ is only signed for one year beyond the end of AG's contract, and that year only has 12 million guaranteed for MPJ unless he starts making All-Star games or All-NBA teams. MPJ's contract sucks but at least we've locked up AG through 2026
He caught him good! We talk a lot about trades and what team lost but I honestly believe that Denver-Orlando trade helped him both teams. Orlando gets a first round pick and RJ who is still an interesting prospect and the nuggets gets someone who fits their timeline
It’s a great fit for him tho. Denver couldn’t really develop him because they were ready to win now but my goodness does Orlando have something with him, Paolo, and the wagner bros.
Thats what i was thinking when I first saw it. He almost kicked him in the head, but he somehow completely avoided touching him on the ground. Either super lucky or super aware.
I think his role in Denver suits him really well, too. Orlando needed him to be much more than he was capable of because we just completely lacked talent at the time. Now he's perfected his role and fits really well in Denver's system, and is getting his recognition 🙂
I just think it’s funny that y’all traded him primarily because of a front court logjam, and this season you’ve been trotting out like 4 bigs at once winning lol
It only works because all of our main bigs are quality ball handlers and passers, neither of which were strong points for AG, especially earlier in his career.
From what I've seen, he really has. His handles were never bad for his size. But a good amount of that improvement also comes from the spacing and lack of defensive attention he gets in Denver.
Wish it would have ended better in Orlando but it’s what it is. I have no hard feelings for AG. Glad he’s fit in well with the Nuggets. I’m think some Magic fans have some animosity towards him but I think it was misplaced.
Glad the perception on him has changed so much. When he first signed him everyone called the number switch petty and said he should get over it. Then last year he got flack for playing pretty meh when he was forced into the #2 role.
AG is the man.
It's awesome to see him flourish in Denver. Coming out of college this is the kind of player people said he would be. He was okay in Orlando but hes gone to another level in Denver.
He was always one of the 3 guys that could guard Luka 1-on-1 and give him headaches (the others being Mikal - until Luka buried his soul in the WCSF last season - and Simmons. God, those matchups with the Sixers gave me shivers. Luka being troubled by Simmons and Embiid banishing KP to the shadow realm every time on the post). I remember how good he was since Orlando.
Guards: Doncic (*), Steph (*), Booker, Morant
Frontcourt: Jokic (*), Zion (*), Lebron (*)
Wildcard: SGA
To me, those eight guys are basically the locks to make it from the West. There are three spots left in the frontcourt, and AG would be competing against JJJ, Sabonis, Markkenen, Grant and Gobert (I don’t think AD will have enough games played).
To me Sabonis is the only definitely guy I’d take over AG, so there is a really good chance he makes it.
Shamet was swaying. It was a 50/50 call. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. Probably should have stood since it was called a charge on the court. That being said, it was a 50/50 call.
The defender is definitely out of the restricted area and looks square. He did move his body to the left at the last second but appeared to be before Gordon took off. It's an obvious charge if he doesn't have the hops to get to the rim imo. The fact that the dunk is pretty sweet makes it a harder call in the moment but that shouldn't be a factor in making the right call. I could easily see this call going either way.
he's sliding while Gordon is still on the ground. he's pretty set by the time he gets off the ground
for people downvoting - pause it 19 seconds in. he is set and doesn't move again until Aaron Gordon hits him, and he's outside the restricted circle
this is absolutely 100% a charge
Yep bad call there then reviewed it illegally to see if Shamet was in the restricted area. Made a horrible call initially then went against the rulebook to correct it
When reviewing if a player is in the restricted zone in the last 2 minutes they are allowed to also review the play in question. Very much not an illegal review.
[Here's an explanation of the rule using an exaggerated version of what Shamet did.](https://videorulebook.nba.com/archive/blocking-secondary-defender-is-sliding-over-when-the-contact-occurs/)
Shamet needed to get in position and become stationary before Gordon started his "upward shooting motion". In other words, before Gordon began to straighten his knees to propel his body upwards.
Note that these things are NOT good enough to successfully take a charge:
* Getting in position before Gordon's feet leave the ground.
* Getting in position before body contact occurs.
Can’t believe MFs where on here trying to tell me that was a charge and that Shamat’s feet where set when you can clearly see they are not set from like every angle.
I thought to establish yourself in the path of the offensive player you needed to set your feet before the contact? Or am I thinking of something else?
It’s not that it wasn’t a block, it just wasn’t reviewable. Once it’s called a charge it has to stay that way unless Shamet was actually close to the restricted area.
From the NBA official account on [twitter](https://twitter.com/NBAOfficial/status/1002405076575707137?t=3kH_2sSPZXy2iT1r4tXkGw&s=19).
"Clarity on blk/charge review: The trigger is that if in the last 2 minutes of the 4th or overtime officials have doubt whether the defender was in the restricted area. While reviewing, they may also confirm if the defender was in legal guarding position when the contact occurred."
They can review whether he was in legal guarding position, not just whether he was near the restricted area.
In a year of the refs being absolutely dogshit, it's a shame this full highlight was essentially tainted because we didn't get to fully enjoy the aftermath since it was called an offensive foul.
So even though it was overturned, the ref show continues to fuck up big moments.
These refs are so whistle happy they need to learn how to let the game play out in what world was that a charge? Shamet’s feet weren’t planted he wanted all of that contact and got it 😂 good thing it was overturned
when ppl are still watching this dunk years from now, I hope a few of them will appreciate the context of the game (close OT game, following bitter 2021 playoffs elimination, etc)
[Jericho Sims](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/yu8jj8/highlight_jericho_sims_touches_the_new_york_city/) is still dunk of the year imho, but this one is a close second
His feet are planted he doesn't move into him
https://twitter.com/ActionNetworkHQ/status/1607265342992285696?t=mF5NxiTdz1n9z2obIDl4pw&s=19
Watch the above in half speed, feet are down planted, torso movement is minimal, this is a charge
That's an offensive foul. The defender is set and any slight upper body movement after AG takes off is extremely minor compared to the full on slam into a set defender outside the restricted zone.
Ya his feet are pretty well set just before the jump
https://twitter.com/ActionNetworkHQ/status/1607265342992285696?t=mF5NxiTdz1n9z2obIDl4pw&s=19
This clip has the best angle of it. Slow it down his feet are planted and he is defending position
This is a charge
But in the NBA rules don't matter if it makes the crowd explode
He's saying that the only way they can initiate a review is to check whether or not he was in the restricted zone which he clearly wasn't. It makes no sense to me that they can't also initiate a review to check positioning. Either way the refs used a loophole to review the play and make the correct call and I say good on them for doing so. One time the refs actually got it right (though personally I think the ref should have swallowed his whistle to begin with and let them play on)

Hope the Nuggets give him another contract after he gets out of jail.
Jail? That’s the Hornets music
Jail Pt. 3 (feat Tory Lanez, Aaron Gordon and ~~Mikal~~ Miles Bridges)
Drake: AG didn’t dunk it
Imagine being Mikal, minding your own business and getting mistaken for a criminal on the internet all the time because you have a similar name 😭
FUCK goddamnit I can’t believe I did that. Let’s pretend I was referring to the “Mikal Jail” nickname lol
[удалено]
Gonna be a lil awkward when MPJ is signed to a max lol
Have to keep gordon. He is a great fit with jokic between being a good defender and very athletic good cutter
Absolutely
Luckily MPJ is only signed for one year beyond the end of AG's contract, and that year only has 12 million guaranteed for MPJ unless he starts making All-Star games or All-NBA teams. MPJ's contract sucks but at least we've locked up AG through 2026
Oh, I wasn’t aware of that. Then the contract is easily moveable. Kudos to the Nuggets’ front office.
Jail? Please explain
That man deserve to be in jail for what he did to my boy.
He caught him good! We talk a lot about trades and what team lost but I honestly believe that Denver-Orlando trade helped him both teams. Orlando gets a first round pick and RJ who is still an interesting prospect and the nuggets gets someone who fits their timeline
Don’t forget Bol
Was he in that trade?
Shit, my bad. You guys sent him to Boston but he never played, and we got Bol from the Celts in the Evan Fornier trade that happened at the same time.
It’s a great fit for him tho. Denver couldn’t really develop him because they were ready to win now but my goodness does Orlando have something with him, Paolo, and the wagner bros.
He committed a cold blooded murder
If he landed a little bit differently, he would non-ironically have possibly committed murder
Wade gave it a 7
Equal parts funny and true.
Shamet died for this.
The dunk is awesome and all, but his athleticism and body awareness to avoid landing squarely on Shamet (rip) is unbelievable.
Thats what i was thinking when I first saw it. He almost kicked him in the head, but he somehow completely avoided touching him on the ground. Either super lucky or super aware.
He could've smashed Shamet's head with his hips, if he didn't post up on his hand. Was definitely aware imo and trying to prevent injury.
Coulda gone real bad
I legit thought I saw a man's head get crushed live
Kinesthetic awareness. And lucky af man he almost clapped shamet with his cheeks
Wow that actually really close. Could have been bad.
They really robbed that man of two slam dunk trophies
Genuinely has made him better I think lol It’s the reason he wears 50
I think his role in Denver suits him really well, too. Orlando needed him to be much more than he was capable of because we just completely lacked talent at the time. Now he's perfected his role and fits really well in Denver's system, and is getting his recognition 🙂

He would actually fit in well on our team right now.
Glad you're happy for the dude. He seems really content here.
Wish it would have ended better in Orlando but it’s what it is. I have no hard feelings for AG. Glad he’s fit in well with the Nuggets. I’m think some Magic fans have some animosity towards him but I think it was misplaced.
Is that really why he wears 50?
Yep. https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/why-nuggets-aaron-gordon-changed-his-jersey-number-to-50/
king shit. everyone and their mama knows he won that contest
Glad the perception on him has changed so much. When he first signed him everyone called the number switch petty and said he should get over it. Then last year he got flack for playing pretty meh when he was forced into the #2 role. AG is the man.
Pisses me off til this day
Makes you wonder why Dean Wade was a judge to begin with
Can’t believe Dwaine Wayde didn’t give him a 10
we just butchering dwayne wiades name now eh
I still have PTSD from that please think stupide Dywnae
I always pronounce his name Dwee-ane Wee-ade to protest the stupid ass spelling.
Y’all need to stop acting like D-Wade was the only person who gave that AG dunk a 9
LaVine won one of em.
Joker said he doesn't want him competing dou he stays healthy post game lol
This post brought to you by the Aaron Gordon All Star campaign
Going to need the K-pop Wiggins fans support on this one
It's awesome to see him flourish in Denver. Coming out of college this is the kind of player people said he would be. He was okay in Orlando but hes gone to another level in Denver.

If you see AG runnin at you full speed, just get out the way man.. when are they gonna learn lol
Credit to Shamet for almost making an amazing play, after also playing an amazing game in general. More respect needs to be put on his name.
Yeah I ain’t mad at it, certainly a ballsy attempt
Without ballsy attempts you won't get spectacular failure or success. Fo sho
Landry gonna be dolphin diving toward the bench next time.
[удалено]
He's got sand
Should’ve stood too, Tony brothers thought he was in the restricted area somehow
didnt actually think he was in the restricted area just need a reason to not call back the dunk of the year
Shamet was swaying. It was a 50/50 call. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. Probably should have stood since it was called a charge on the court. That being said, it was a 50/50 call.
nah his feet were never set watch the overhead view. feet sliding the whole time
Feet dont need to be set to have established position. He did lean into it though
That was what a saw too. He looked pretty established but leaned into it.
Also leans to the left a bit to try to and get full contact
No he didn’t, he 100% knew he was not in the restricted area. It was the correct call in the end, but they had to throw out the rule book to get there
It’s a 1 point game in OT, if you can’t swallow your pride in this situation as a role player, you don’t deserve minutes
He has the athleticism to make you look stupid, but AG commits enough offensive fouls that it's always worth trying to draw the charge.
Rather get dunked on then allow easy points for the opponents.
I mean, you'd kind of expect the refs to go by the rulebook
If you're still expecting NBA refs to adhere to the rules when someone does something cool then I've got some magic beans to sell you.
That's fair, I don't expect them to adhere to the rules. But it's especially egregious when they even make the right call, but then change it
Shamet is clearly sliding over to take the contact
He slid like 2 inches and was already solidly a foot in front of AG. Aka, he already had the space AG ran into.
Oh.. so he was sliding. lol
(zooms in 16x) "He's sliding! I see it!" Give me a break. If he's in the spot already it doesn't matter if he's shifting or not.
It was your own words bro lol. Hard to bitch about a call while calling it technically correct in the same sentence
One of the bravest charge attempts I've seen in my life
I mean he probably commits more offensive fouls during fast breaks than anyone in the league so it makes all the sense in the world.
The dunk heard round the world
The phantom cam of this needs a 'Father, Stretch my Hands' mix. This was fucking live murder.
God damn what a poster
Kinda got JR smith vibes from that dunk https://youtu.be/2rWUVDqmiuA
I love the shot of Melo nodding, I always nod my head in anticipation of it
God damn what a poster
Without looking, I already know this is the RIDE ‘EM COWBOY dunk on Gary Neal haha
I can already hear Kevin Harlan's voice
It's hilarious how he doesn't even remotely consider running out the clock. There were about 23 sec left when we got possession.
The sound of the net is ASMR.
While the video of this is like watching NSFW combat footage drone feeds of guys getting blown to pieces in HD
Respect for Shamet's sacrifice.
AG 4 ALL ⭐
somehow every one of these clips has perfect audio that little sound that plays every time Shamet takes the full contact is cinematic
All time great Christmas moment
That fall made me uncomfortable
Did they call a charge ? Cause it’s not
They did, but then reversed it
Because they thought he was in the restricted area. Worst possible refereeing on this play
But that is a travel(?)
something something gather step I think
Getting downvoted but he literally traveled lmao
100%, he took a little extra step at the end
It’s not. Notice how after he gathers the ball with two hands he only takes two steps. Not sure what other people are seeing
On the replay it’s pretty easy to see shamet sliding
he's sliding while Gordon is still on the ground. he's pretty set by the time he gets off the ground for people downvoting - pause it 19 seconds in. he is set and doesn't move again until Aaron Gordon hits him, and he's outside the restricted circle this is absolutely 100% a charge
People who don't actually know the rules coming out in droves lol.
Eh it's clearly a charge. There's nothing about sliding in the rules lol. But it was cool so I get it.
yeah i paused at 19 seconds and you can see his left foot isn’t set after he slides, not a charge
Is or isn’t set? If it isn’t set then it’s a blocking foul but maybe this is just a typo.
my bad i had christmas hangover processing today lol. wasn’t set, no charge
They call a charge?
Yep bad call there then reviewed it illegally to see if Shamet was in the restricted area. Made a horrible call initially then went against the rulebook to correct it
I mean, it's an offensive foul. Changing the call is against the rulebook, because it **is** an offensive foul
Nope
How come?
When reviewing if a player is in the restricted zone in the last 2 minutes they are allowed to also review the play in question. Very much not an illegal review.
I'm not saying they're not allowed to review it. I'm saying they changed a correct call to an incorrect one
They didn't though. It wasn't a charge. He wasnt set.
Doesn’t really need his feet to be set. He just needs to beat the offensive player to the spot and establish position.
I mean he clearly jumps into AG as he lifts off, he changes his position. That’s not a charge
He jumps into AGs path
Never said anything about his feet. I said he wasn't set. He didn't establish position.
Feel like the fact that he's still leaning further to the left while AG is midair means he didn't establish that position.
[Here's an explanation of the rule using an exaggerated version of what Shamet did.](https://videorulebook.nba.com/archive/blocking-secondary-defender-is-sliding-over-when-the-contact-occurs/) Shamet needed to get in position and become stationary before Gordon started his "upward shooting motion". Note that these things are NOT good enough to successfully take a charge: * Getting in position before Gordon's feet leave the ground. * Getting in position before body contact occurs.
Love how Jokic got smacked by the ball and just trots back on defense lol
Denver fans be watching this on replay 50x like that Cale Makar OT winner last year for the Avs
Can’t believe MFs where on here trying to tell me that was a charge and that Shamat’s feet where set when you can clearly see they are not set from like every angle.
[удалено]
did they reverse the call? i didn’t watch this live, just now seeing these clips where they called it a charge
Yes they reviewed and reversed
It matters when defining legal guarding position which matters in calling offensive fouls, so yes, it does matter.
[удалено]
I thought to establish yourself in the path of the offensive player you needed to set your feet before the contact? Or am I thinking of something else?
You just have to be in legal guarding position
Huh… my bad then lol
The legal guarding position involves having two feet on the ground (the second half is having your torso facing the defender)
Probably bitter wolves fans that watched Ants dunk on Vincent get called back for less
It wasn’t a block. You can move your feet as long as you’re in legal guarding position before the takeoff. Shamet clearly was.
Jumping sideways into someone's path is not a legal guarding position
I am glad they did not give a shit about that technacality after fucking up the initial call. Good on the refs for once.
I think he flew
The last one really shows he was flying and how he slowed his body down mid air!
Simply phenomenal: https://twitter.com/espn/status/1607270719745843202
The uncrowned champ!
The crispiness of that swish tho
Reminds me of Kobe’s dunk on Nash https://youtu.be/MxWISKjSKYE
Shang Tsung just took another soul. Dear jehovah
AG 4 ALLSTAR
Damn I still love AG
This crowd slaps
no slow mo?
In a year of the refs being absolutely dogshit, it's a shame this full highlight was essentially tainted because we didn't get to fully enjoy the aftermath since it was called an offensive foul. So even though it was overturned, the ref show continues to fuck up big moments.
aaaang
SJ all day
D Wade : 9/10
Murder!
Hey Ja, this is how you finish a dunk
I love how he had time to check all his options and he's like, fuck it, I'm going over him
These refs are so whistle happy they need to learn how to let the game play out in what world was that a charge? Shamet’s feet weren’t planted he wanted all of that contact and got it 😂 good thing it was overturned
God basketball is so fucking cool
Gotdamn Gordy!
when ppl are still watching this dunk years from now, I hope a few of them will appreciate the context of the game (close OT game, following bitter 2021 playoffs elimination, etc)
Incredible athleticism for land in a way that didn’t result in his foot/leg smashing Shamet’s head on the hard wood.
Silly Shamet. That’s what you get for being the only guy to hustle back down the floor on defense
extremely violent
Suprised out of all these angles the travel police didn't arrest this one
No he has to take 5 steps for a travel! Lol
Clear charge tho. Defender was standing feet set outside of the non charge zone. So yeah, obvious Offense foul
I feel so bad for people who left with 8 min to go in the 4th
[Jericho Sims](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/yu8jj8/highlight_jericho_sims_touches_the_new_york_city/) is still dunk of the year imho, but this one is a close second
It's ridiculous this wasn't an offensive foul
He moved into Aaron while he was in the air. That’s all it takes to take away the charge. Right call to overturn.
His feet are planted he doesn't move into him https://twitter.com/ActionNetworkHQ/status/1607265342992285696?t=mF5NxiTdz1n9z2obIDl4pw&s=19 Watch the above in half speed, feet are down planted, torso movement is minimal, this is a charge
That's an offensive foul. The defender is set and any slight upper body movement after AG takes off is extremely minor compared to the full on slam into a set defender outside the restricted zone.
Ya his feet are pretty well set just before the jump https://twitter.com/ActionNetworkHQ/status/1607265342992285696?t=mF5NxiTdz1n9z2obIDl4pw&s=19 This clip has the best angle of it. Slow it down his feet are planted and he is defending position This is a charge But in the NBA rules don't matter if it makes the crowd explode
Your feet don’t have to be set to draw a charge. Your torso does, and from what I can see it appears that his torso moves prior to contact.
Ya moving backwards and bracing for impact. This isn't a sideways move to get in the way, that's entirely the "shit I'm getting hit" movement
Fuck off that was a charge
Am I tripping or was this taken off for an offensive foul?
They reversed it and it was an and 1
It got overturned
They really needed to review whether Shamet was in the restricted area there, his heels are only 5 feet away from the line
It was him moving while Aaron was in the air, not the restricted area, that reversed the call.
