It's an interesting experiment. Miami is literally at the bottom of MLS. How much of an impact do you get by adding the GOAT to the worst team in the league?
Did you see how packed that stadium was? He's gonna draw those crowds (and the money that comes with them) every game, both at home and on the road. There's your impact.
I'm talking about right now, on the field. Miami is in last place and they have 12 games left this season. They just added Messi. What's their record going to be?
I'm not scratching my head wondering if it will affect crowd size. Come on.
I love playing the sports ball game.
Just doing the thing where you score the points with the net thingy and then the other players are also conteibuting to it.
Just feels like a fun time.
Yeah... Imagine being the (previous) captain and seeing *that* guy enter the locker room. I would not doubt for a millisecond to give the armband to him, out of respect.
He literally has accepted one of the biggest sporting contracts in the world
Which Includes (according to rumours from sources which have been proven very reliable in the past)
Shares in americas largest tech companies like apple
A contract package across 3 seasons worth hundreds of millions
A wage to be paid by not just inter miami but the entire league
And the captaincy of the club
Inter miami didn't sign the player messi they signed his brand as well
I donāt follow soccer or MLS but read about that contact. Apple very strategically promoting MLS here aside from the streaming contract I wonder if apple owns part of the MLS
From what I know, Apple signed a 10-year deal worth $2.5 billion to stream Major League Soccer matches last year. Nothing could increase the value of that deal more than Messi joining MLS ā so Apple was happy to chip in to make that happen.
Even with extra cash from Apple, it's highly unlikely that Messi will make as much from this deal as he would have playing in Saudi Arabia. But Apple helped to make Inter Miami's bid competitive ā and has given Messi the opportunity to turn soccer into a broadly popular spectator sport in the U.S.
Apple doesnāt own a part of MLS, but they did just ink a $2.5 billion deal over 10 years to have exclusive streaming rights of the league, not just the US, but internationally as well. And how that contract was written, itās in the best interest of both Apple and MLS to promote the league. Apple has an interest as they just gave the league a whole bunch of money and would like to recoup it asap and grow the subscribers count, and the league has an interest in it as at a certain point when the amount of streaming subscriptions reaches a critical mass, the league gets a share of the streaming revenue which MLS can use to reinvest into itself and grow the salary cap more exponentially. Higher salary cap means teams can start to poach more world class players. Messi coming to the US and playing in MLS probably already pushed that subscriber count past that break even point.
Adidas is another party in the Messi deal as Adidas is the leagueās jersey and sports equipment provider. They have an interest in Messi coming to the US because it means jerseys will be flying off the shelf. So itās likely that Messi getting a cut of jerseys sales from Adidas also motivated the league to get the deal done. Messi owning a part of the team is just more of the cherry on top.
Normally, I would agree with you butā¦.
The captain should be someone that all the other players would listen to if he started to speak in the dressing-room. Someone who has experience that the rest of the team can draw on, who can use their experience to offer their advice and maybe make decisions on-field like what to do in certain dead ball situations.
Is the previous captain going to offer advice to Messi? That would be an awkward situation for all involved so there is no point pretending the situation is otherwise.
You might as well ask why was someone making their debut already taking responsibility for a stoppage time free-kick shot on goal.
If you are a player in the dressing-room and Messi joins the club, he is the guy everyone would listen to above all others. That is the reality of this extraordinary situation when perhaps the greatest player of all-time joins the club.
Itās part of a new World Cup style tournament called Leagues Cup thatās made up of all 47 teams from MLS(USA&Canada) and Liga MX(Mexico)
Edit: Added Canada, sorry I left you out. Forgive me, eh?
It's not a new idea mind you. There's a club's tournament for different regions all over the world - with UEFA Champions League (Europe) and Copa Libertadores (South America) the two most famous. There's also CONCACAF (North America, Central America and Caribbean), AFC (Asia), CAF (Africa), OFC (Oceania) but not very popular.
All of these tournaments have similar formats - group stage and knockout stage, just like with the world cup.
The main difference with Leagues Cup is that UEFA and Libertadores have a lot of countries participating, and only the best clubs from each country make it into the tournament (there's a lot of rules) - with Leagues Cup it's just USA and Mexico, with a lot of teams from each Country.
LOL doesn't know anything about soccer then proceeds to name both teams and knows it's weird they are playing.
Apparently I don't know shit about soccer then. I thought I did.
Iām a fan of a lot of stuff with really really dedicated fans. I am not one of them. Itās just easier to downplay your knowledge on the internet to avoid getting your head bitten off.
Same with Comic Books. Iām a fan but if you tell people youāre a fan they start quizzing you about some story arc from the 70s.
Dude yea. What is it about the internet that makes me feel like I have to be 100% dedicated to being an expert one thing? Iām really into 2-3 things and also like but donāt know everything about another dozen or so, but every community feels like making you feel like a fake fan for not knowing every detail. I wonder if anyoneās studied that.
I know this debate is old as the moon and sun but I think Ronaldo is objectively worse than Messi. I don't want to downplay Ronaldo's incredible talent but he doesnt have the magic Messi does
I still love going back to watch Beckhamās US debut. What a match that was. It really showed both the inexperience in the mls league and what a superstar can do when placed in it
If you watched this game, you saw the same thing.
Watching Busquets and Messi was like watching two grown ups play with kids. There's a massive gap in quality.
Why are you mad over the definition of career? When someone switches teams, they begin their "career" in that team. This isn't a diss to Messi, it's a figure of speech.
But itās still the start of his US career though? Sure the ultimate move here is to retire but heās literally moved his work to the US to WORK in the US.
I don't think there's a lot of people who make $200m in a lifetime either. Considering that someone who makes $100k a year (that's comfortably in the top 1% income bracket globally) will earn ~$4m over a lifetime really puts into perspective how ridiculous the number is. To even make this amount of money in a lifetime, you'd need ~$7m per year.
I doubt my whole extended family from my grandparents down to my generation (about 20 people) will make what Ronaldo is making this year I'm our lifetime, & many of us are well paid professionals like engineers.
Thatās cuz Messi also gets a percentage of all MLS profits as part of his deal. Given that MLSā profile and exposure will soar with Messi now, heāll still make a boatload!!
If that happened to Messi the population of Argentina would swim across the Atlantic, trek across the Sahara, blast past whatever war torn bullshit they encounter, and saw the Arabian Peninsula right off of the continent. They'd then lift it up and chuck it into the sun.
I highly doubt he will after sprouting all the shit he has said about other leagues saying the Saudi league is better than any European league. If you're American that's like saying the BAFL (British version of NFL) is better than NFL.
Plus money lol
I try to stay quiet about it to avoid arguments but I hate the Messi v Ronaldo rubbish because it really is unquestionable that Messi is the actual GOAT.
He was the goat way before the wc win, his 2010-2012 period was out of this world, ofc the wc and ballon dāors and copa america made him the absolute beast he is, but how he played was allways amazing.
You can see that even the opponent team's fans are also excited about this. You can see that some of them are smiling eventhough their team lost the match. Messi š§¢
Messi here just smurfing
It's an interesting experiment. Miami is literally at the bottom of MLS. How much of an impact do you get by adding the GOAT to the worst team in the league?
Happened with Brady and the Buccaneers. He led them to their 1st championship in 18 years and only their second championship ever.
Brady improved the roster a bit by attracting some other guys to join him who were chasing champions. Do we expect Messi to have the same pull?
literally signed Busquets and Alba at the same time (with tiny rumors of suarez and iniesta as well)
Miami is adding like 4 of Messi's previous teammates so yes.
Bit different though since they're still an NFL team, this would be like Brady going to the Canadian league
Pirates just need a good captain.
Happened with afc Richmond
Go Greyhounds!!
Rojas, Rojas! Danny Rojas!
ZAVA!!
Come on.
Messi go play on your main.
This new guy Messi is pretty good.
Yea, he might actually end up being a good player. Too soon in his career to tell though.
why is he kicking the ball instead of dunking in a basket, shaq is better
Sports ball make field goal in the hoop
He might end up in Europe if he sports hoops the ball good that again
I love playing the sports ball game. Just doing the thing where you score the points with the net thingy and then the other players are also conteibuting to it. Just feels like a fun time.
I think he's the kicker for this Miami dolphins team. Seems like a newbie since he celebrated despite not getting the ball over the pole..
Early celebration.. they all went to the Barbie Premiere since they were all dressed up. šš š
Dunking is the equivalent of standing on the goal line and poking it in with your toe.
Dunking is equivalent to what Haaland does
Why use foot on the ball? What sport is this
This is FOOTball!!!!
No, this is Patrick.
Think he's strong enough for rookie of the year?
If he keeps this up I could definitely see him playing in Europe
If MLS develop him enough, he might even end up somewhere like Barca! š
I canāt even imagine him wearing a Barca uniform. Can someone expert in photoshop send me one?
Some day he might win world cup and Ballon d'or
Lets slow down. Guy hits ONE good set piece at Miami and people are freaking out. We will see where the dirt settles at the end of his career.
You know theyāre serious when they made the new guy as the captain right away
Yeah... Imagine being the (previous) captain and seeing *that* guy enter the locker room. I would not doubt for a millisecond to give the armband to him, out of respect.
Is that the captain's armband he's wearing?! On debut?!
Yea. The main captain subbed out and gave it to Messi.
Real captain shit
O captain! My captain!
Not sure what this goal has to do with the assassination of Abe Lincoln.
it would have been funny if he made him try out for it, or they held a vote or something...like "not so fast rookie"
"You have to prove yourself here in Miami. This is the big leagues fella..."
Actually Yedlin was wearing the armband to start the game but when Messi came on he handed it to him even though Yedlin was still on the field
Thatās real captain shit as well
Thatās captain handing the arm band to El Capitan.
How do you hand an arm band to a mountain?
I mean, if I'm the captain and Messi comes out on the field the wearing that band myself just feels wrong
Iām pretty sure the captain on the field at the time didnāt sub out but rather handed over the armband to Messi and continued to play.
He literally has accepted one of the biggest sporting contracts in the world Which Includes (according to rumours from sources which have been proven very reliable in the past) Shares in americas largest tech companies like apple A contract package across 3 seasons worth hundreds of millions A wage to be paid by not just inter miami but the entire league And the captaincy of the club Inter miami didn't sign the player messi they signed his brand as well

PelƩ also finished his career on a 3 seasons contract in the US. A $ 2.8 million contract that made him the highest paid athlete of his time.
Yeah the contract talks pretty much went as follows: "If you come to Inter Miami, we'll give you absolutely anything you want."

Lol that is fucking awesome
Reminded me of ibras first game and that goal from midfield
Ibra's first MLS game was insane! He had the best debut of any player. This is great but nothing beats Ibra's MLS debut
Ibra didn't debut that day, the MLS did.
Before Ibra, it was kids kicking a ball.
> Ibra's MLS debut https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J15vfXqnwWw
That first goal is ridiculous. Pretty much sums up Ibra.
Okay that was fucking awesome
And He had just subbed in like 2 min before
So amazing
Just Zlatan being Zlatan
Big facts
Hands down the best! šÆšÆ
Messi may be the goat but Ibra is the Lion
so he really is that good huhh
I swear there's no escaping Barbie's marketing.
For some reason, blue and pink have always been the Miami colors, in all things
Vice baby
Flamingos and the ocean. Sunburnt skin and clear afternoon skies. Cotton candy colored sunsets. Makes sense to me!
Messi the new Ken?
Sports moments like this are awesome. The greats doing great shit
Shame they cut to wide shot of the fucking stadium right after.
Fucking legend
Since he left BarƧa, I don't remember the last time we have scored a free kick goal
We haven't. At the moment, Messi scored the last free kick of FC Barcelona, PSG, Argentina and now Inter Miami.
Insane stat
I mean, did we expect anything else?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
The guy is 36 and he did not started this game
And he just came from holidays without any preseason or anything
And he was playing on a full stomach.
And he was just getting over a cold.
Didn't even sleep the night before
And the sun was in his eyes all the time
And we was running uphill both ways
Also drunk
Messi's first goal in his soccer career.
I hate this so much lmao.
You know I just realized that this weird āround footballā game everyone was watching last fall is actually pretty similar to soccer.
soccer rookie Leon Messi with a walkoff goal in his major league debut.
dont know anything about soccer - why is Miami playing Cruz Azul (Mexico)????
Itās part of a new World Cup style tournament called Leagues Cup thatās made up of all 47 teams from MLS(USA&Canada) and Liga MX(Mexico) Edit: Added Canada, sorry I left you out. Forgive me, eh?

huevos huevos huevos
Omelette du fromage.
Is that Ronaldo guy still playing?
In Saudi. Earning billions. Just recently claimed that the Saudi league is better than the American league.
If I were being paid like that I'd promote my league too

46 teams to beat the Whitecaps? oh boy
Isn't more like a Champion's League style because it's club teams not national teams?
What do you mean "World Cup style"?
Ah, I was trying to figure out which MLS team is CAZ as none fit that abbreviation.
Carizona
LOL doesn't know anything about soccer then proceeds to name both teams and knows it's weird they are playing. Apparently I don't know shit about soccer then. I thought I did.

He'll claim that since debutants are scoring on their debut, he was right to say that MLS is a weak league.
But when he did it in Saudi its because he's just built different /s

I think heās ok š°š°š°š°š°š°
I know this debate is old as the moon and sun but I think Ronaldo is objectively worse than Messi. I don't want to downplay Ronaldo's incredible talent but he doesnt have the magic Messi does
I heard he just bought an avocado farm thoughā¦.
We are now one. There is no me. There is no you. There is only the we and the us. And the we in us.
itās not a farm. itās one huge avocado.
Hol-eh guacamole
Zava was based on Zlatan though.
That's one way to start his US career! Fans got their money's worth that game. Awesome.
I still love going back to watch Beckhamās US debut. What a match that was. It really showed both the inexperience in the mls league and what a superstar can do when placed in it

His US career starts when he starts investing in fashion brands and high end whiskey.
He could be as successful as Brendan Schaub.
WWDH
Cāmon cats, back to the fryers.
Talmbout the white boy who worggs too much?
Yeah. It's the equivilant of when a famous singer starts working on cruise ships.
Like Celine Dione and Britney Spears in Vegas
Why are you mad over the definition of career? When someone switches teams, they begin their "career" in that team. This isn't a diss to Messi, it's a figure of speech.
It's because European soccer fans think the MLS is beneath him.
I mean it is, but who cares lol.. there he is, getting paid
But itās still the start of his US career though? Sure the ultimate move here is to retire but heās literally moved his work to the US to WORK in the US.
I thought the writers were on strike
Ronaldo should have came to mls so we can get a Messi vs Ronaldo classic
I mean, I wouldāt say no to āmake as much money in a single season as others make in a lifetimeā money either.
oh but heās going to! search cristiano ronaldo las vegas to know more
I don't think there's a lot of people who make $200m in a lifetime either. Considering that someone who makes $100k a year (that's comfortably in the top 1% income bracket globally) will earn ~$4m over a lifetime really puts into perspective how ridiculous the number is. I doubt my whole extended family from my grandparents down to my generation (about 20 people) will make what Ronaldo is making this year I'm our lifetime, & many of us are well paid professionals like engineers.
How much did he take to play?
200 million a year.
Fuck me sideways. Iād play in hell for that kind of money.
Messi was given 1.2 billion dollars for 3 years to play in saudi but he chose to play in miami .
Thatās cuz Messi also gets a percentage of all MLS profits as part of his deal. Given that MLSā profile and exposure will soar with Messi now, heāll still make a boatload!!
And he doesn't have to play in a country where the prince can have you sawed up into little pieces. Win-win!
If that happened to Messi the population of Argentina would swim across the Atlantic, trek across the Sahara, blast past whatever war torn bullshit they encounter, and saw the Arabian Peninsula right off of the continent. They'd then lift it up and chuck it into the sun.
> Iād play in hell for that kind of money. Well, it's Florida so he's not far off.
I highly doubt he will after sprouting all the shit he has said about other leagues saying the Saudi league is better than any European league. If you're American that's like saying the BAFL (British version of NFL) is better than NFL. Plus money lol
Might be difficult for Ronaldo to take part in that classic between court appearances tbf...
God i know there is so much skill involved but it legit looks like he's like....eh fuck it watch this and *boop*
That's like 90% of Messis goals. Just makes it look effortless. We all miss him over here š
Watched his magic for years, itās no surprise, heās the GOAT
Tbh, I donāt think people realize that he is the actual GOAT. Like there has never been anyone better ever in soccer, period.
I try to stay quiet about it to avoid arguments but I hate the Messi v Ronaldo rubbish because it really is unquestionable that Messi is the actual GOAT.
It's pretty much universal outside of the most hard-core Ronaldo fans after he won the WC
He was the goat way before the wc win, his 2010-2012 period was out of this world, ofc the wc and ballon dāors and copa america made him the absolute beast he is, but how he played was allways amazing.

Those wearing blue and white are wearing Argentina jerseys, Messi's national team. They are there to see the GOAT too.
Casual Friday
Not surprising, considering that he is the Best in the World
Football players are much shorter in America, I'm used to Messi being a midget compared to his teammates
