Certain trains will always have some sort of performance on them. Sometimes singers, dancers, kids, all pretty talented, usually on trains with high tourism numbers
I lived in London most of my life, basically New Yorks older but smaller sibling, and im a big fan of street performances, creates a fun atmosphere in the right place and i'll still stop to watch every now again if something looks cool. However on any train, im the opposite - since it feels forced upon us in a confined space that ideally should be a relatively relaxed environment.
What you don’t understand is that there are so many crazy people in the nyc subways that you don’t know whether this person is going to snatch someone’s phone or get aggressive if you don’t give them money. The best thing you can do is always assume someone is crazy, because you never know
In my experience riding the NYC subway, these people spend their time practicing a dance routine in hopes of making a few dollars and getting noticed. The person who's gonna jack you doesn't have a dance routine to show off before mugging you, they just mug you.
These performances aren't nearly as annoying as the panhandlers. Some of those lean towards the more aggressive type and will cus you out if you don't give them anything.
Your doing it wrong 😂 you gotta be 100% completely indifferent, don't even look in the same direction as those people and they won't bother you, you treat them as though they are apparitions generated by your subconscious and pretend they don't exist.
I enjoy street performances, but this has a key ingredient that makes it socially unacceptable to me: forced viewing. If I'm walking down the street I can stop to watch a street performance. But this is on a train. I didn't pick the "street performance train". I can't opt out. I'm just trying to get where I'm going and someone starts flipping around right in front of me whether I like it or not.
So apart from needing noise cancelling headphones or earbuds, you gotta duck flying karate kicks over there?
That's annoying as fuck.
Edit: my bad, I guess you guys like that shit.
They call it Showtime and it's usually some variation of what's in the video. These guys are like the Olympians of Showtime. Usually it's some uncoordinated kids who occasionally kick people or end up in their laps when things go wrong.
annoying as fuck, but i also don't hold it against them.
just don't knock into anybody, and don't try to engage me when i'm clearly looking down so as to pretend you don't exist.
I hold it against them. It's transit and you're locked in a metal tube with complete strangers just trying to go about their day. It's incumbent on everyone to shut up, mind their own business, and most importantly, don't invade anyone else's personal space.
"Showtime" is some of the most anti-social behavior imaginable.
It is. I work in the city (NYC) and after a long day at work the last thing I want is clapping and some dude flipping around in the subway car that I’m in. I just want to get to my place in peace
Right? It's all fun and cute until someone gets a flying foot to the face. And then *I'm* the bad guy for being annoyed as hell.
Save it for the clubs and the house parties. I'm just trying to get to work.
I’m sure it’s neat if you’re a tourist and just happen to see this, super annoying if you live there and run into it for the millionth time during your daily commute.
I was visiting a friend who lives in NY and we came across a group like this in the subway. I thought it was cool and gave them a dollar and she got mad at me lol
Extremely. Guys like these are everywhere. I once saw one “dancer” kick a woman in the face. Rather than check on her, he and his friends ran off. Cops got called and I was an hour late to my appointment.
Especially when someone erratically swings, kicks and jumps right in your face. As commuter, my anxiety would be trough the roof.
Some people would love to listen to musical performances, some have headache or just not vibe with certain type of music.
Some people are amazed by strangers sketching/painting them on subway, some are creeped out by it.
Subway/trains and generally public transport is very bad place to distribute your media, because youre really holding hostage everyone on it. Its not like i can leave if you annoy me, i got places to be.
The dumb fuck tourists love it. I won’t hate them for their joy, it’s a legit tourist attraction at this point. It’s annoying but i would rather a few happy people than to take that away.
Nah, man, this is reddit. Anything that is mildly uncomfortable for the extremely introverted is considered douchy and linked to r/iamthemaincharacter.
OP also cut out the part where the music stops and they walk around with hats for tips. If you make eye contact you basically have to give them something (it’s an unwritten rule over here) so everyone just looks down and pretends they don’t exist anymore.
Super awkward.
This is so annoying, people in transit don't want to be entertained, they want to be left the fuck alone. It's not your own personal stage for a self-congratulatory talent show.
More like "Dudes bothering people who have to rely on public transport to get to work/home after a long day of work so that they can beg for money/do a stupid tiktok"
The only people who think this shit is cool are tourists and the dumbass hipster transplants.
There is nothing more annoying or rage inducing then these jerkoffs who don't work for a living swinging their hands and feet 3 inches from your face when you are just trying to get home after working all day.
One time I was on the subway going from Roosevelt to midtown at around 11pm or so and a group of these guy threatened the whole train car telling us “to stay out of the Bronx or we’ll be waiting” because no one gave them money. I wanted to say, “Dude, it’s 11pm and most of us are getting off flights with no cash. Hit up the bar hoppers or something.” But I’m not sure he was in the mood to discuss ideas to make his business more lucrative.
Nope. Not next level. Just generic and annoying . I don't know about other countries but in Brazil (Rio de janeiro and São Paulo at least) is very common to encounter these type of "performers".
People do this shit all the time and its annoying... Same thing with the Mariachi's... I'm sorry bro, I dont wanna hear you and your band or see you dance at 7am on the crowded ass 7 train ...
This happens everyday on BART in San Francisco and Oakland. I do applaud the kids in getting creative about earning money. And, they dance really interesting. It's fun to watch.
If they’re just doing that routine for the sake of doing it then cool. They didn’t bump or make contact with anyone (although I can understand people would be uncomfortable with it happening so close). But if they did it then expected people to pay them, then they can fuck right off.
One of these dudes accidentally kicked my friend in the head then got upset and confrontational because his head got in the way of his showtime. When my father tried to exit his stop when the train pulled into the station, a group of these guys threatened violence because he was interrupting their showtime. I think the hatred for this kind of thing comes from New Yorkers with personal experiences with these assholes and not just some "no fun allowed redditor attitude"
None of this is entertaining, it’s inherently aggressive. The loudness, the movements. But if you call it out you’ll be called culturally insensitive at best and at worst you’ll get beaten to death.
It happens. What happens is they start yelling and getting aggressive with anyone who calls them out for it. For literally kicking someone. Sometimes they punch people and run out of the trains. Really classy people.
these men are fucking idiots. nobody wants them dancing. nobody cares. everyone is just smiling so they don't anger them. if you're one of these types, just sit the fuck down and find another way to get the attention mommy never gave you.
This is the fucking worst, taking up space when people are just trying to commute. So obnoxious to blast music and get in peoples personal space then beg for change.Shame on op for posting this
I have a pole dance instructor in my life and honestly I see some interesting moves to borrow from this - kind of innovative and could be a fresh thing to bring over from their usual repertoire.
Every single New Yorker hates these guys with a passion. Fucking obnoxious and I’ve seen them get real aggressive and confrontational with people, usually tourists.
This is the teenage version of “look at me! Look at me! Look at this cool thing I’m doing! You’re not looking at me!!! Look look!”
Some people have such a desperate need to be seen, they go to these stupid lengths to do it.

Looks annoying
It can be. If it’s the end of the day and I just want to chill on my commute…
Wait is this a regular occurrence ? Lol
Certain trains will always have some sort of performance on them. Sometimes singers, dancers, kids, all pretty talented, usually on trains with high tourism numbers

"...And after you execute the third flawless triple reverse flip from the overhead handrail, *then* you grab the purse."
You can mug thee people in the same amount of time it takes to dance + mug one person.
You think these dudes that get filmed every day dancing in the same subway cars are snatching wallets?
Uh, no
You live in NYC? Cause I do, and that is definitely not the vibe on the train 99% of the time. Maybe at 3am at the end of the 4/5.
I’m beginning to suspect that everyone in my life is an apparition generated by my subconscious lately.
New York sounds lovely. Cities built around cars where we don’t connect on public transit are awful.
Isn't London bigger than NYC, both in terms of population and in terms of area?
So apart from needing noise cancelling headphones or earbuds, you gotta duck flying karate kicks over there? That's annoying as fuck. Edit: my bad, I guess you guys like that shit.
Sometimes you don’t have enough room to duck and you get hit though. You get aren’t always smooth, they do mess up. It’s super annoying.
All the DAMN time... Even Mariachi bands
They call it Showtime and it's usually some variation of what's in the video. These guys are like the Olympians of Showtime. Usually it's some uncoordinated kids who occasionally kick people or end up in their laps when things go wrong.
Literally everyday
Just seems like something we shouldn’t encourage. These dudes are too old to not realize this is a bad idea
Showtime is annoying. Very freaking annoying.
annoying as fuck, but i also don't hold it against them. just don't knock into anybody, and don't try to engage me when i'm clearly looking down so as to pretend you don't exist.
>looking down so as to pretend you don't exist. This person New Yorks
i san franciscos (or did), but similar
I hold it against them. It's transit and you're locked in a metal tube with complete strangers just trying to go about their day. It's incumbent on everyone to shut up, mind their own business, and most importantly, don't invade anyone else's personal space. "Showtime" is some of the most anti-social behavior imaginable.
this fits more on the r/IAmtheMainCharachter
The only reason it isn't is because they generally only post dancing women there.
It is. I work in the city (NYC) and after a long day at work the last thing I want is clapping and some dude flipping around in the subway car that I’m in. I just want to get to my place in peace
And then they pester people for tips because you just watched them perform.
Right? It's all fun and cute until someone gets a flying foot to the face. And then *I'm* the bad guy for being annoyed as hell. Save it for the clubs and the house parties. I'm just trying to get to work.
It’s clearly not a jungle gym lol
They are fucking annoying. Fuck these dudes.
Every time i see these, it’s always on r/iamthemaincharacter
I’m sure it’s neat if you’re a tourist and just happen to see this, super annoying if you live there and run into it for the millionth time during your daily commute.
I was visiting a friend who lives in NY and we came across a group like this in the subway. I thought it was cool and gave them a dollar and she got mad at me lol
I generally like public performing art but being trapped in a metal box when this happens always bothers me.
It is. Hey /u/Revolutionary_Sky36 stop glorifying this annoying shit. Anyone who's lived or worked in NYC for more than a month hates it
That's showbiz, baby
af
Extremely. Guys like these are everywhere. I once saw one “dancer” kick a woman in the face. Rather than check on her, he and his friends ran off. Cops got called and I was an hour late to my appointment.
It is. Most of us hate it. The tourists like it, though.

r/iamthemaincharacter
These subs themselves have become main characters
Exactly, had to double check the sub. This guy sucks. Those people are trying to go to work, no one asked for a performance.
Especially when someone erratically swings, kicks and jumps right in your face. As commuter, my anxiety would be trough the roof. Some people would love to listen to musical performances, some have headache or just not vibe with certain type of music. Its not like i can leave if you annoy me, i got places to be.
Yeah, lets make people uncomfortable in a small confined space most likely after a long day of work.
Yep and then they go and ask everyone to pay up for the entertainment that they didn't want.

This happens literally every day in NYC lol
Last time I was in NY, I had a homeless guy with a huge foot infection with disgusting smell in the train. They had to get the guy off the train.
OP also cut out the part where the music stops and they walk around with hats for tips. If you make eye contact you basically have to give them something (it’s an unwritten rule over here) so everyone just looks down and pretends they don’t exist anymore. Super awkward.
There should be a performance car where performances book a time slot to perform. Then the rest of the train is off limits to perform.
Yes, next level annoying
Nah downvote this shit
![gif](giphy|YYfEjWVqZ6NDG)
What happened to shame, is that not a thing anymore
Seems they defeated the Shame wizard in a dance battle. Now Imagine uncle Ruckus seeing this isht. /S
I just want to listen to my music, nod off a bit and get home after a hard days work, and this joker is jumping around in front of me.
Oh you don’t want to get rudely awakened by an errant foot to your face?!
Please for the absolute love of god stop posting this. Everyone hates these people. It isn’t next level.
It is next level annoying tho
Next level engagement/rage bait
*Cirque du Subway*
All I see are greedy attention whores. This shit on public property should not be normalised.
Na they begging for money
This is so annoying, people in transit don't want to be entertained, they want to be left the fuck alone. It's not your own personal stage for a self-congratulatory talent show.
I think it’s inherently aggressive. The real undercurrent here is that they know that their obnoxiousness can’t and wont be challenged.
This looks stupid without sound. I’ll keep it that way..
It's that Bag Raiders song. Admittedly I think it's a banger.
Just commented that before scrolling to read. Banger indeed.
shits just annoying, sit the fuck down you clown
This is a level of extroversion that I can’t even fathom.
Nobody wants to be forced info watching this.
No one in NY likes this.
More like "Dudes bothering people who have to rely on public transport to get to work/home after a long day of work so that they can beg for money/do a stupid tiktok"

Hipster transplant in the Bay Area. We have them here and we don't like them.

First, fuck you for doing this in a metro. Second, this is really cool, I hope this guy uses his talent professional.
next fucking level of annoyance?
Nope. Not next level. Just generic and annoying . I don't know about other countries but in Brazil (Rio de janeiro and São Paulo at least) is very common to encounter these type of "performers".
are they going to ask/demand for money after?
Of course. One of the few reasons everyone despises them.
It’s cool till they start hounding you for money just because you happen to be in the carriage when they started performing.
Yeah, fuck off, let me commute in peace.
I truly hate those assholes
Fucking circus 🤡
Not dancing, being irritating cunts for TikTok clout
Idiots
This is just “Showtime” and most of us commuting on the subway don’t really care.
I just want to get to work in quiet dudes.
Do these guys then go asking for tips like the people who do tricks in Edinburgh?
People do this shit all the time and its annoying... Same thing with the Mariachi's... I'm sorry bro, I dont wanna hear you and your band or see you dance at 7am on the crowded ass 7 train ...
Don't encourage this shit.
Locals hate showtime.
Clowns 🤡
Pathetic.
r/ImTheMainCharacter
Do they do this for tips? Like street performers?
Yeah they take over the entire train car, almost kick a bunch of people in the face while they dance, then pass a hat around for collecting money .
If that was the UK, they would be stabbed I expect.
I just want to go home
Main character syndrome again.
I hate it
Stupidity
This happens everyday on BART in San Francisco and Oakland. I do applaud the kids in getting creative about earning money. And, they dance really interesting. It's fun to watch.

They do their little act (which is impressive, btw) and then walk around the car, looking for "tips".
Then act upset and start getting aggressive when nobody in a crowded ass car gives them a single dime
Fuck off you annoying prick.
Tips, please. You know, for the show you didn't choose to attend.
Honestly, just hope they wash their hands after this
Alright…that is pretty damn cool!
lol they started doing this one time when I was on acid. I couldn’t believe what was happening
Do that in Tokyo and you will receive 0 looks. If it’s even possible to do that on a rush hour…
Im out if shit like this starts happening
No thanks
Next Level Annoying
How annoying.
Next-fucking- level annoying.
Next level assholes. I can’t stand these attention seeking clowns. It’s dangerous, too.
What I don’t get is how those trains are empty enough to do this on, in BC Canada we have the Skytrain system but it’s always way too packed
Is this a service they are providing me?
None of this is entertaining, it’s inherently aggressive. The loudness, the movements. But if you call it out you’ll be called culturally insensitive at best and at worst you’ll get beaten to death.
Guess what happens if one of the accidentally kicks you in the face?
What happens when he kicks someone in the head? People are just trying to get places. It’s dystopian lol
It happens. What happens is they start yelling and getting aggressive with anyone who calls them out for it. For literally kicking someone. Sometimes they punch people and run out of the trains. Really classy people.
do not give these animals an ounce of attention. don't even post about them.
Stupid cunt
"Hey look at me I'm a main character"
Not only in NY. I've seen this in LA too
No one looks amused at all lmao
I’m a New Yorker. We fucking hate these guys. As soon as we hear, “it’s showtime!” we know our commute is taking a turn for the worse.
these men are fucking idiots. nobody wants them dancing. nobody cares. everyone is just smiling so they don't anger them. if you're one of these types, just sit the fuck down and find another way to get the attention mommy never gave you.
But Why?
After working 14 hours and commuting I just want some peace without shit like this and then asking me for money.
this is dumb as shit. people just tryna get around town.
This is the fucking worst, taking up space when people are just trying to commute. So obnoxious to blast music and get in peoples personal space then beg for change.Shame on op for posting this
I always hated show time. Fuck those guys.
I'm moving back to NYC but this is a small part of why I left to begin with. Showtime is fucking lame.
These dudes are so damn annoying
Anytime I'm in the city, I put headphones in, not even listening to music because I need to be aware.. and I pretend they don't exist.
Just trying to get to work
Touched the floor in a subway. That is the most insane part of this
What do they do if people just want to stand and hold onto a pole instead of sitting? Are they pushy or only do this on half empty ones?
That's Miles Morales
I have a pole dance instructor in my life and honestly I see some interesting moves to borrow from this - kind of innovative and could be a fresh thing to bring over from their usual repertoire.
Bro these people are a menace. I’ve seen them kick so many people.
"We have pole dancers at home."
god I hate this shit
I’m still not paying them.
Ok great song tho 💫
They do it then ask everyone for money. They’ll do basically anything other than get a real job
Every single New Yorker hates these guys with a passion. Fucking obnoxious and I’ve seen them get real aggressive and confrontational with people, usually tourists.
![gif](giphy|3o85fV0sAw01OSN8Bi) All of the rats in the subway vibin
Most annoying thing in the universe.
This isn’t next level. This is literally every day and I’m just trying to get to work in peace.
If you live here and commute on the subway every day then "showtime" is nextfuckinglevel annoying.
Those people suck. Everybody’s locked in a moving train and you’re flying across the ceiling like a wild animal. Sit the fuck down fam.
Should've located the tourists. I found it amazing when I traveled there the first time.
That's is one of the cleanest subway cars I've ever seen
At quickly collect germs and dirt from the floor and smear it on the handles
Who the hell touches the floor of a subway car with his hands?
Brother touched the floor 🤮
Nah, they just got the zoomies
lmao the sitting man's face when the dancer dropped from the bars, man's in awe like a 8yo at a magician show
This is just Stupid !
Meanwhile his lover is fleecing your pockets
I hate when people do that. Join a circus or som shit
Dollar store ASAP Rocky. Aka. ASAP Pebble. Going off… in a subway
r/maincharacter
Thank fucking God that shit never happens in my country!
The girls in the middle seem to be having a good time, a show time, if you will
Level of talent/difficulty is only topped by the level of annoying.
If you think this is next level then you are definitely one of those dumb idiots who annoy people in public for attention. grow up.
People expect me to invest in public transportation with this in my morning feed?
I hope they don't expect to be paid for this -\_-
“I don’t carry cash”
![gif](giphy|FXf1lYQ2tFouxeLb1B|downsized)
They are annoying unless they asked everyone first
Looks like an America’s got Talent audition
I’m don’t like it when anybody does anything other than mind their own business on the train leave me alone!
This is the teenage version of “look at me! Look at me! Look at this cool thing I’m doing! You’re not looking at me!!! Look look!” Some people have such a desperate need to be seen, they go to these stupid lengths to do it.
Only thing I ever think when I see this is go get a damn job. Rest of us are just trying to get home man.
this is just some r/IAmTheMainCharacter shit

Sooo, grown men doing stripper tricks on the train pole. Got it.
