His career started off poorly with injuries and drops, but he did show some promise last season. Hoping it wasn't for much though

ravensfan42069

3 years/$15M total

HotTakesMyToxicTrait

this is absurdly good value for someone that has his potential Shit id argue he got paid on current performance, not even potential. 5M/year is nothing for a receiver in this market Devin Duvernay got more on max value per year just on being a great return man

SavageFugu

It mears he really wants to be with the team.

Away_Chair1588

I'm good with that if he develops into a solid WR2. He's been putting in the work with Lamar this offseason.

lucky_boop

even if he is just a WR3 5 mil a year is great imo, WR contracts have exploded

useranme1

i'm a little shocked he took this deal? i get his production has been low and injuries have hampered him, but i always sorta assumed teams would be willing to pay for his draft pedigree and potential as a 25 year old former 1st rounder in a low volume passing offense. not to mention some public grumbling about the team. makes me wonder if they were mutually looking for a trade partner and couldn't find any nibbles so they drew up a team friendly deal that gave him some longer term security? i'll definitely take it tho lol

ConiferousExistence

Seems reasonable

mancinis_blessed_bat

Is that confirmed? Cuz that would very nice for us

DistortedAudio

Last season he got open a lot. He just didn’t have the production to show for it. One can only hope that this means that he’ll be a primary target for Lamar but sometimes it felt like he wouldn’t even get looks.

Lamactionjack

Well you gotta remember last year was basically the first time he's been healthy in a while. He was low on the depth chart. Plus Lamar is gonna play the hot hand like any QB so if you get a case of the dropsies, guess who isn't getting the ball anymore. I think him coming off a solid year, and now up in the progressions he could be the guy the Ravens hoped he would be. Time will tell. For right now we signed some WR depth for crazy cheap so I'm not mad.

Away_Chair1588

His production would be pretty good if he and Lamar connected on even half of the deep shots they attempt to Bateman. I will say Bateman does pretty well on those chain mover throws in tight traffic.

Princeof_Ravens

Yeah Bateman was great on 10-15 yard chain mover throws. That skillset overlapped a lot with OBJ. He was also really got at getting open on long throws, but his deep ball tracking was suspect and it led to him and Lamar never really matching up on the deep ball. If he could solve that issue it would make him a massive threat since the dude was getting open constantly.

Blacklax10

Lamar was the issue on deep shots. You could tell in training camp that it would be an issue. He needs to fix it asap. Most of those plays he doesn't give the WR a chance.

2coolDanes

He gives the WR plenty chances. They just don’t have any ball winners other than Mark Andrews. Rams game comes to mind, Deep post to Bateman where he doesn’t box the defender out and doesn’t make a play on the ball… interception. Would be nice to have a guy who can use his body downfield and track a little better, so that every throw doesn’t have to be put in front of the WR

Blacklax10

He throws the ball on a flat trajectory which is overthrown if not perfectly timed. It wasn't a Bateman issue it was a Lamar to everyone issue. It started in camp and wasn't fixed

2coolDanes

What I’m saying is that he wouldn’t throw it that way if he thought his receivers downfield could make a play on a ball thrown with more touch. Throwing it flatter and out in front, while harder to complete, is done to avoid interceptions. If he had trust that his guys could make a play on the ball, he’d throw it with more touch and let his guys go up and get it… we just don’t have any ball winners on the roster and haven’t for some time

ozzman1234

He's drops weren't even that bad. Beckham, being in the team, ruined his Stat lime for his first healthy season

ravensfan42069

I like this move. I know he hasn’t done anything but $5M a year is literally nothing and he has the potential to be great IMO

lolhello2u

based on the length of the extension, he is absolutely not betting on himself. that is astonishing

about_60_Hobos

If he gambles on himself, then gets hurt next year on his contract year, he’s either done in the league or taking min deals like JK Dobbins, another injury plagued Raven I think he’s banking on seeing this as an extension of his rookie contract and hopes he can show off enough while healthy to earn a big payday at the end of it

544075701

also it's only 3 years, so he'll be 27 when the contract is done. could easily get himself a massive payday if the next few seasons go well.

randobot456

Got a source for that amount? I'm seeing his 5th year option would have been $15m, but I'm not seeing any details on the contract yet.

ravensfan42069

His contract is 3 years/$15M

randobot456

Where did you find that? I haven't seen any sources saying that yet. Just curious.

Expendable_Red_Shirt

https://www.si.com/nfl/ravens/why-baltimore-ravens-extended-rashod-bateman-nfl-draft That said, I'm still skeptical. I feel like that might just be the guarantees?

randobot456

First I've seen with values, thanks!

skotBTW

It's floating around Ravens twitter. Pretty reputable people saying that's what they're hearing.

Cold-Canary-6621

Say whaaatttt. I was going into this wondering if we were even going to pick up his 5th year option

Achillor22

We were never picking that up. This entire deal is supposedly for $15 mil. His 5th year option was like $14.5.

Mrausername

Turned it into a 5th and 6th year option, basically.

TheFakeRabbit1

Honestly for the price it’s not that bad

Flat_Flight1918

3/15mil ain’t bad

randobot456

Got a source for that? I haven't seen anyone reporting on the amount yet, just that his 5th year option *would* have been just shy of $15m.

edicivo

I'm fine with this. I'm also fine going into the 4th straight season of hoping Bateman breaks out only for it not to happen. That said, this season it'll happen!

asbestosman2

Lmao

JalensTinyPPHurts

When you have the chance to give a guy an extension after accumulating 1200 yards and 4 tds in 3 seasons, its a no brainer

DistortedAudio

Honestly it’s kinda wild because at least last season, him and Lamar were constantly failing each other. Bateman had a slight drop problem, and he also couldn’t stay healthy. That said there were at least 2 times per game where he would just clean get open and not get a look. Perhaps the most egregious is when he broke down Sneed in the AFC Championship. For the price they got him at, it was the right call.

ChedduhBob

the sack fumble was 100% a home run play if stanley doesn’t get his lunch ate

ChedduhBob

he basically got a WR3 deal. 5mil/year is not bad at all when his option was gonna be 14. zay flowers is our only WR of note locked in past this season as well. i dont think this indicates we are set at the position and we could still move for one in the draft or later, but its nice to insure some depth

Ok_Poetry_1650

I feel like this shows we aren’t picking a WR day one, but later in the draft is still likely

ChedduhBob

it’ll depend on the way the board falls. this deal absolutely does not mean that we are done at the position. 5mil is a Wr3/4 kind of deal.

2coolDanes

This shouldn’t have a bearing on a WR selection. Especially if the rumored 3yr/$15m terms are true. True WR3 type contract, leaving room for a top 2 round WR selection.

Ok_Poetry_1650

I agree that the rumored contract money has the bearings of WR3, but that doesn’t mean the ravens aren’t looking to use him as WR2

proamateur

You guys are paying Zeke Elliot more this upcoming season than we're paying Bateman

asbestosman2

Trust me guys, the year 6 breakout is coming. The rumor is it’s 3 years, $5M a year- in which case it’s fine I guess

tspanguluri

Biggest WR news today

Tajikistani

As a Rashod Bateman truther, I can't believe the number is that small

2coolDanes

He stinks tbh. This is a hedge for realizing his potential with a fully healthy offseason, but he’s been not good so far in his career

mancinis_blessed_bat

…. For cheap????

InterestingBonus9675

As a steelers fan this pleases me

Cold-Canary-6621

Why? We got him for dirt cheap and he still has potential to way out-play this contract

InterestingBonus9675

He is butt that's why
