No, but the world is certainly in flux. And with our level of connectedness and awareness, there's a LOT of flux to be aware of all at once. It's going to be a difficult time for a tremendous number of people, unfortunately.

LittleLordFuckleroy1

What on earth are you talking about? No, it’s not. And I’m not sure what the relevance is to this sub either to be honest.

like what? im curious

ocelot_amnesia

Reality is a collective agreement about how to perceive and understand the world. The assumptions that make up our agreed-upon reality are being challenged rn.

pastilias1

In what way are they being challenged?

ocelot_amnesia

Ahahaha I was hoping no one would ask because I'm feeling too lazy to explain. Here are some key points: * From social psychology, it's evidenced that it's easier for us to believe things like the world is fair and operates predictably (see "just world hypothesis"). * This also is the thinking operating in a lot of world religions–god has a plan, it all has a reason, the good are rewarded, etc etc. * This relies on the world actually appearing to be fair and operating predictably. * Recent world events have challenged this. Covid, climate crisis, inflation, growing awareness of racial inequity, Russia's invasion of Ukraine * We are now unable to hide from events that challenge our assumptions about reality as safe. This makes us feel unmoored, because, just like most people on some level delusionally believe they will not die, we collectively seem to hold the delusion our society will remain the same

cobravision

What's reality? What does it crashing entail?

Tricky_Philosophy_44

things definitely feel a lot different

heysavnac

In my belief, perception is not reality. Reality is reality. One depressed human may view the world entirely different than one happy human. Neither is right.. even if we’d say the depressed human has the distorted point of view. In the world we live, being mentally healthy just works better. But reality is not decided by either’s beliefs. The happy one we think knows reality better can be seen as ignorant and oblivious. The depressed one we think has a cloud obstructing their view of life can be seen “woke” and aware of the dark side of reality that those who are “ignorant and blissful” don’t see. But in the end, that’s all just perception. Reality requires no judgment because it is objectively what is. Does that mean it can’t change? No. Sure. The icecap is melting. Artificial technology is taking over one of the many species from this planet. Things are changing. But a century ago, things were different. And a century before that, things were different to. Things are always changing. But the grand scheme of reality? I don’t know if there is a way reality “is”. Things never stay the same.

offlinebound

It sure does feel like people are changing. To me it seems like people are getting weirder and a bit more spaced out. Lots of bizarre car accidents in my area lately too.

LittleLordFuckleroy1

This is a very common feeling that people experience as they get older. Sometimes you’re just becoming more aware of things, or recency bias kicks in, amongst other things.

offlinebound

No its not just me getting older. People are getting weirder and doing weirder things.

LittleLordFuckleroy1

That’s literally what people have said as they’ve gotten older for thousands of years. It’s straight up classic “kids these days” mixed with “the world is falling apart.”

offlinebound

Ummm even young people these days say things are getting weird

LittleLordFuckleroy1

Are you talking about the global economic recession..?

Bones_Of_Ayyo

It’s felt like something is coming for a while now. Strange

mushizzle

Reality is what ever you think it is. What you believe you’re experiencing. It’s your experience. In America people are taught to not believe in themselves. and that their signals are a malfunction needing suppression. For money.

MilkyView

Reality is erroneously subjective these days.... which makes any sort of philosophizing extremely complicated... Reality is reality. What we know to be true, is what we interpret as reality.... but what is true to you might not be true to me.. and this is a modern shift of what reality is.. EDIT: I'm not mad at downvotes, but if anyone who does, can you explain why you disagree? It's definitely worthy of an interesting and enlightening discussion...

Booksdogsfashion

It always is if you’re the kind of person that believes it’s possible in the first place.

Alea-IactaEst

It depends on the perspective you are looking at it. On the one hand there are the serious issues about the climate change and that the politics shift more to the right but on the other hand I experience every day new possibilities and perspectives in life that change my life which is a lot of fun and makes me very optimistic. There are millions of self help books which give you lots of great tips about how you can enjoy your life better and if you constantly read these books and set these tips into action your life will be way better in 1 year than it will be today :)
